This study assessed the effects of mesh-size variation on the size-selective performance and operational characteristics of tie-down gillnets targeting the blackedged sculpin (Gymnocanthus herzensteini) in the East Sea. Four mesh sizes (84, 90, 105, and 120 mm) were evaluated under standardized field conditions, and length-frequency data were analyzed using the SELECT model in conjunction with two relative performance metrics, the catch comparison rate (CCR) and catch ratio (CR). Larger meshes produced selectivity curves shifted toward greater body lengths, and the deformation of the net panels induced by the tie-down structure led to distinctly broad selection ranges. These patterns indicate that retention probability is influenced by both the geometric mesh – body relationship and the mechanical distortion of the netting. Relative efficiency analyses confirmed the superior performance of larger meshes for capturing larger individuals although overall catch declined as mesh size increased. The results clarify the selective properties inherent to tie-down gillnets and provide scientifically grounded information that may support the development of mesh-size regulations, bycatch mitigation approaches, and resource management strategies for coastal gillnet fisheries.

This study analyzed the selectivity of cylindrical net pot for the swimming crab (Charybdis japonica) using the SELECT model with a normal function. Data were obtained from four sea trials employing six mesh sizes (20.2, 27.6, 33.7, 37.9, 50.5, and 65.0 mm). The carapace length corresponding to the maximum catch in each mesh size ranged from 32.6 to 36.7 mm, whereas larger meshes of 50.5 mm and 65.0 mm exhibited peaks at 50.3 - 52.3 mm. This result clearly demonstrated that the size composition of the catch varied with increasing mesh size. The 50% retention carapace length (L50) ranged from 25.2 to 47.8 mm. When comparing fishing performance, smaller mesh pots generally yielded higher catches relative to the 20.2 mm reference pot. A comparison between the legal mesh size of 33.7 mm (nominal 35 mm) and the adjacent 37.9 mm mesh revealed that a 4 mm increase in mesh size significantly raised the proportion of crabs larger than 38 mm carapace length. Based on the minimum size at first maturity (28.86 mm), the optimal mesh size of the pot was estimated to be 35.59 mm. However, more precise sea trials and analyses are required to obtain reliable results. The findings also indicate that changes in mesh size have a clear influence on the size composition of swimming crab catches, suggesting that the correlation between mesh size and catch characteristics must be carefully considered to ensure sustainable resource management.
This study quantitatively evaluated the ghost fishing effects caused by lost gillnets and pots through abandoned fishing gear retrieval surveys conducted along the east and south coasts of Korea. The catch efficiency of retrieved gear was compared with commercial gear, and Monte Carlo simulations were employed to estimate ghost fishing rates over time. The results showed that the ghost fishing rate of snow crab gillnets and spring-type whelk pots retrieved from the East Sea were 50.7% and 57.9%, respectively while the drum-type octopus pots from the South Sea showed a ghost fishing rate of 48.3%. These findings indicate that lost fishing gear retains more than half the catch efficiency of commercial gear, and the impacts of ghost fishing can persist over extended periods. Simulation results revealed a sharp decline in ghost fishing rates within the first three months of submersion, followed by a gradual decrease, confirming the long-term impact of ghost gear. When applying time-weighted ghost fishing rates based on soak duration, the estimated loss in 2023 from ghost fishing in gillnet and pot fisheries amounted to approximately KRW 419.9 billion, representing 9.62% of the total production value of coastal and offshore fisheries. These findings emphasize the need for mandatory use of biodegradable gear, regular seabed gear monitoring, and the implementation of traceability and gear identification systems. The study provides scientific evidence for the development of policies and technical standards aimed at mitigating ghost fishing.
총담관 결석은 담낭 결석 환자의 약 10-20%에서 동반되며 폐쇄성 황달, 급성 담관염, 급성 췌장염과 같은 심각한 합병증을 초래할 수 있다. 본 종설은 담낭 절제술이 예정된 환자에서 총담관 결석의 진단과 치료 전략을 종합적으로 고찰하였다. 진단은 병력청취, 혈액 검사, 복부 초음파, 내시경 초음파, 자기공명담췌관조영술 등을 활용해 이루어지며 정확한 진단은 적절한 치료 방침 결정에 필수적이다. 치료 전략은 복강경 담낭절제술과 총담관 탐색을 동시에 시행하는 1단계 접근법과 내시경역행담췌관조영술로 결석을 제거한 후 담낭 절제술을 시행하는 2단계 접근법으로 구분된다. 국내에서는 내시경역행 담췌관조영술 기술의 표준화와 숙련된 내시경 전문의가 갖추어져 있어 2단계 접근법이 주로 선호된다. 총담관 결석 치료는 환자의 상태, 병변 특성, 병원 자원에 따라 치료 방침을 조율해야 하며 내과와 외과의 긴밀한 협력이 중요하다. 향후 이를 뒷받침할 대규모 다기관 연구가 필요하다.
감마-오리자놀(γ-oryzanol)은 phytochemical의 한 종류로 항산화, 항염증, 항암, 항당뇨, 콜레스테롤 감소 등의 효능이 알려져 있다. 본 연구에서는 현미를 백미로 도정할 때 부산물로 발생하는 미강으로부터 생리활성물질 중의 하나인 γ-oryzanol 함량이 높은 추출조건에서의 분말을 제조하고, 이를 쌀국수에 첨가하여 항산화성이 개선된 국수를 제조하고자 하였다. 미강을 에탄올 농도 0, 20, 40, 80%의 에탄올로 추출한 결과 80% 에탄올로 추출한 추출분말에서 γ-oryzanol 함량이 가장 높았으며, DPPH 소거능과 ABTS 소거능이 가장 높았다. 미강추출분말의 γ-oryzanol의 함량을 높이기 위하여 Saccharomyces cerevisiae로 미강을 고상발효시킨 후 80% 에탄올로 추출하여 동결건조시킨 분말의 γ-oryzanol의 함량은 발효시키지 않은 미강을 추출분말보다 약 2.18배 증가하였으며, DPPH 소거능 및 ABTS 소거능, 단백질분해효능이 증가하였다. 오리자놀 함량이 높은 미강추출 물을 쌀가루에 첨가하여 쌀국수를 제조한 결과 쌀국수의 경도, 탄력성, 씸힘성, 점착성 등이 증가하였으며, 쌀국수의 γ-oryzanol 함량, DPPH 소거능, ABTS 소거능 등이 증가하여 항산화 활성이 개선되었음을 확인하였다.
The aim of this study was to produce a fermented rice bran extract with enhanced ferulic acid γ-oryzanol contents and high antioxidant activities. The ferulic acid content in the freeze-dried extract of rice bran treated with plantase PT enzyme, increased by 4.1-fold compared to that of untreated sample, the DPPH radical scavenging activity also increased by 1.5-fold and 1.2-fold, respectively. The γ-oryzanol content of the dried powder prepared by inoculating Apergillus oryzae BOT1869 onto steamed rice bran for solid-state fermentation followed by extraction with 80% ethanol, increased 2.3-fold compared to that in an 80% ethanol extract powder of raw materials. The ABTS scavenging activity also increased 1.5-fold. When the ferulic acid content-enhanced extract and the γ-oryzanol content-enhanced extract of rice bran were mixed and subjected to liquid fermentation with Lactiplantibacillus pentosus BOT406 and then freeze-dried, the ferulic acid content of the extract powder increased about 3.0 times compared to that of original extract powder. In addition, its γ-oryzanol content increased about 1.5 times, the DPPH radical scavenging activity increased 1.4 times, and the ABTS radical scavenging activity increased 1.6 times.
This study evaluated catch selectivity differences between sea pike (Sphyraena japonica) and Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus niphonius) using a modified codend with square mesh side panels in bottom trawl. Sea trials were conducted with the covered codend technique widely used to estimate codend selectivity curves at the coastal sea of Yokji-do, Gyeongsangnam-do, from December 2024 to January 2025. Selectivity curves were fitted using a B-spline model for sea pike and a probit model for spanish mackerel. The estimated 50% retention lengths ( ) were 26.88 cm for sea pike and 42.92 cm for Spanish mackerel, with selection ranges () of 2.42 cm and 10.76 cm, respectively. Spanish mackerel was shown the broader and more gradual selectivity curve, while sea pike showed steeper selectivity. This study found that selectivity changes depending on the change in the net structure of the trawl tip. In addition, a difference in selectivity was observed for two species with different morphological characteristics.
This study aimed to identify the selectivity of catches according to mesh size of gillnets, and to collect basic data for fisheries resource management plans for gillnets. The mesh selectivity test was conducted with five different mesh sizes (60, 66, 69, 75, and 96 mm) gillnet in coastal sea of Mukho port and the selectivity was analyzed using the Kitahara method. In results of the selectivity test, a total of 143 (36,249 g) of atka mackerel were caught and the 60 mm gillnet was the highest at 83 (18,596 g), which is about 58.0% of the total catch. The relative growth equation between body length and weight showed that weight tends to increase proportional to body length. The maximum length/mesh size value was showed 0.490 by the master curve of selectivity, and the 50% selection range was showed 0.138. Therefore, it was found that the size of the caught fish increased proportional to the mesh size. The results of this study were intended to be used as data for establishing a plan for efficient management of atka mackerel resources.
본 논문에서는 소성 설계를 기반으로 한 프레임 구조 설계 시, 기둥의 종류에 따른 구조 제작 비용과 거동의 차이를 연구하였다. 축 력과 횡력을 모두 받는 구조물에 적합한 기둥 부재를 선택하는 것이 중요하며, 플라스틱 설계 방법을 채택할 경우 기둥의 역할이 더욱 강조된다다. 특히, 횡력은 기둥의 연성을 요구하며, CFT(콘크리트 충전 강관)형 기둥은 RC(철근 콘크리트) 기둥보다 높은 강철 비율 로 연성을 확보하게 된다. 이 논문에서는 CFT 기둥이 RC 기둥보다 더 나은 성능을 보이는지 확인하기 위해 다양한 구조 유형에서 기 둥을 설계하고 분석하였다. CFT 기둥을 소성 설계에 채택함으로써 얻을 수 있는 이점은 다양한 구조 유형에 따른 하중 유형의 분석을 통해 제시한다.
The polyphenol content of common buckwheat, Tartary buckwheat, buckwheat leaves, sea tangle, sea mustard ears, and fusiformis were analyzed. Among these, buckwheat leaves exhibited the highest polyphenol content. Hot water extraction followed by treatment with plantase enzyme increased the polyphenol yield by 56% for buckwheat leaves and by 34% for sea tangle. Cytotoxicity test performed on 3T3-L1 pre-adipocytes for seaweeds and buckwheat leaves revealed no significant cytotoxic effects compared to that of the control group at 1 mg/mL. Additionally, when examining the effects of buckwheat leaf and sea tangle extracts on the pre-adipocytes differentiation, into adipocytes confirmed that buckwheat leaf extract inhibited fat differentiation at 10 mg/mL and sea tangle at 0.1 mg/mL. Buckwheat/sea tangle enzyme food had 6.5 times higher amylase activity, 27 times higher protease activity, and more than twice as high dietary fiber, polyphenol, and DPPH scavenging ability as brown rice enzyme foods. Buckwheat/sea tangle enzyme-supplemented food contained more than 30% more phlorotannins and 7.8% more alginic acid than brown rice enzyme-supplemented food.
This study aimed to investigate the catch selectivity characteristics related to the mesh arrangement of the codend in bottom trawl. Sea trials were conducted using the covered codend method from January 16 to 17, 2024, off the southern coast of Gyeongsangnam-do, focusing on the side panels of diamond and square mesh codend. A probit model was used in the selectivity analysis to estimate retention probability curves for sea pike comparing the , , and selectivity lengths, the selection range ( ), and the corresponding and values. The estimated 50% selection lengths were 23.82 cm for the diamond mesh and 25.20 cm for the square mesh whereas the corresponding selection ranges were 5.23 cm for the diamond mesh and 3.71 cm for the square mesh. The and values for the square mesh were lower, at 35.91 and 36.71, respectively, compared to 37.65 and 38.45 for the diamond mesh. Additionally, the retention probability at a fork length of 15 cm was lower for the square mesh than for the diamond mesh. These findings provide practical insights for gear design while contributing to the reduction of bycatch and small size fish catches in bottom trawl.
This study analyzed the selectivity of Octopus minor using the extended SELECT model in netpots. The data used for the analysis were collected from ten sea trials conducted between 2009 and 2010 using cylindrical octopus traps with six mesh sizes (16, 18, 20, 22, 24, and 26 mm). The selectivity analysis was performed using two models: the p-fixed split model and the p-estimated split model, depending on whether the encounter probability (split parameter) was estimated. The model fit was evaluated by comparing the model deviation and AIC values. The results showed that octopus catch decreased as mesh size increased, with a general tendency for larger individuals to be caught. The 16 mm trap, which had the smallest mesh size, accounted for 25.9% of the total octopus catch by number of individuals while the 22 mm trap, a commercial mesh size, accounted for 14.1%. The CPUE based on weight was highest for the 18 mm trap. The selectivity analysis results indicated that the p-estimated split model provided the best fit, and the 50% selection length for the 22 mm trap was 64.57 mm. In this study, reliability of various models was considered in the mesh selectivity analysis, and the findings are intended to serve as basic data for improving relevant regulations and deriving scientific research results.
국제적으로 선박의 온실가스 배출 감소 요구가 증가함에 따라 어선에서의 탄소배출량 저감 역시 중요한 과제가 되었다. 특 히 2023년 기준 국내의 어선 64,233척 중 60,272척이 총톤수 10톤 미만의 소형어선인 점을 고려할 때, 전기추진설비의 안전한 소형어선 적용을 위한 법제 정비가 필요하다. 본 연구는 노르웨이 해사청의 소형 선박 배터리 시스템 안전 규정을 검토하고 국내의 기준인 「전 기추진 선박기준」과 어떠한 차이점이 있는지를 비교·분석하였으며, 이러한 연구를 통해 열폭주 확산 시험의 강화와 절연 성능이 인증 된 냉각수의 사용, 배터리실 내의 배관과 소화전, 환기설비에 대한 각종 요건과 소화설비의 해수 사용을 금지하는 요건 등 소형어선에 서의 안전한 배터리시스템 사용을 위한 관련 법령의 정비 방안을 제안하였다.
내시경 유두부괄약근 절개술 후 통상적인 내시경결석제거술로 제거가 어려운 거대총담관결석에 대한 치료로 일차적으로는 소절개 내시경 유두부괄약근 절개술 후 내시경 유두부 큰풍선 확장술을 권고한다. 내시경 유두부괄약근 절개술과 내시경 유두부 큰풍선확장술 후에도 제거가 어려운 거대총담관결석의 경우에는 담도내시경하 전기수압쇄석술 또는 레이저쇄석술을 고려해 볼 수 있으며 일시적 담관 스텐트 삽입술을 권고한다. Billroth-II 수술, Roux-en-Y 문합술 등 해부학적 변화로 내시경역행 담췌관조영술이 어려운 총담관결석 환자에서는 소장내시경 또는 경피경간적 담도내시경을 통한 담석제거술을 선택적으로 시행할 수 있으며, 초음파내시경 유도하 중재 시술도 최근 시행되고 있다. 재발성 총담관결석에 대한 일차 치료로는 내시경역행담췌관조영술이 추천된다.
총담관결석의 치료를 위해 안전하고 효과적인 ERCP를 시행하려면 적절한 예방적 항생제의 사용은 필수이며, 출혈 관련 합병증 감소를 위해 항응고제의 중단과 출혈 위험성이 높은 환자들에게 EST 대신 EPBD를 시행하는 것이 필요하다. 뿐만 아니라 PEP 감소를 위한 적절한 췌관 스텐트의 삽입을 고려해야 하며, 담낭 담석이 동반되었을 경우 총담관결석의 치료가 끝났다면, 환자 상태를 고려하여 선택적으로 담낭절제술을 시행해야 한다.
