The purpose of lhis paper is to assess the current state of T. S. Eliot’s poems in Korean translation. Academic research on Eliot by Korean scholars began in 1945, and so far three generations of scholars have actively engaged in Eliot studies and translations of his works‘ However, based on my examination of nearly all of the Korean translations of the quoted verse lines appearing in the Journal 01 the T. S. Eliot Society of Korea between 2006 and 2008, and Studies ill Modern 8ritish and American Poetry (2008), I argue that translation endeavors by the second and third generation scholars have not yielded satisfactory results and that the senior group of scholars cannot shirk its responsibility. The problem areas in the translations include choice of words and phrases, tense adjustment, versification and punctuation as well as scene description and poetic imagtnlDg. Followmg a detailed discussion of inappropriate and awkward translations, 1 offer my own translation for comparison if need be.

A network-based robot [1] is a robot that explores service servers in the network environment for analyzing sensor data and making decision. Since network-based robot architecture was proposed, it’s possible to reduce costs of robots. We hope robots would be all around at home environment. Therefore, normal users who are not experts need to be able to control those robots by using easy commands. We developed a scripting language, named CCSLR, to help users and developers who control various robots in ubiquitous environment. We focused on how to design the common language for various robots and how to translate a CCSLR script into a sequence of low-level commands of the target robot. In this paper, we propose scripting methods, with three layers. The CCSLR system reads the profile information from the knowledge representation database. Users don’t have to know all about kinematical and mechanical details of a robot. Then again, the CCSLR system will use the profile information to translate the script into separated executable library commands. The CCSLR system manages robot’s changing state every time a robot executes a command.

이 논문은 현대 중국의 체제 전환에 대한 전망의 한 단서로서, 근대 일본에서 서구에서 말하는 liberty나 freedom를 번역한 ‘自由’라는 개념이 근대기 중국에 어 떻게 유입되어 현재까지 전개되어왔는가를 다루는데 목적이 있다. 다만, 그 전반적 인 내용을 한꺼번에 다 다루지 않고 근대기 번역어 ‘자유’ 개념의 성립과 그 중국 유입에 이르는 간략한 과정만을 우선 살피게 될 것이다. ‘자유’ 개념이 중국에 유 입되어 근대 지식인 사이에서 어떤 논의가 이뤄졌는가에 대한 구체적인 논의는 여 기서 다루지 않는다. 논문에서 논의된 내용은 첫째, 중국에서 ‘自由’ 개념 이해의 의의. 둘째, liberty, freedom, 동양 고전 속의 自由, 그리고 ‘自由’라는 飜譯語. 셋째, 중국 사상사적 맥락에서 본 ‘自由’ 및 自然개념. 넷째, 일본에서의 ‘自由’ 개념 번역 사정. 다섯 째, 번역어 ‘自由’의 중국 流入과 그 이후에 대한 전망이다.

The primary purpose of this paper is to descriptively analyze the syntactic aspects of the Middle English version of Letter of Alexander the Great to Aristotle. Of the three extant ME manuscripts, examined was Dimarco & Perelman`s edition (1978) chiefly based on the manuscript in Cambridge, University Library MS. Mm.5.29 which is believed to be virtually identical to the Latin origin. The main concerns of this paper are focused on the linear orders of such phrases as noun/adject, verb/adverb, genitive/noun, and preposition/noun, and some syntactic aspects are also discussed on passive, tense, word order patterns, etc.

This paper investigates the nouns of body part s in Korean that are translated as an NP object in French (These Korean Nouns are abbreviated below as 'Npcrul' ). My discussion centers on describing two things: (a) What grammatical functions in French perform when describing the person of 'Npcrul' . (b) What are linguistic factors by which 'Npcrul' s are translated in French, when they are preceded by one of the three articles : the indefinite article (un Npc), the definite article (le Npc) and possessive article (son Npc).
