        Cytosolic Ca2+ is an important regulator of tumor cell proliferation and metastasis. Recently, the strategy of blocking receptors and channels specific to certain cancer cell types has emerged as a potentially viable future treatment. Oral squamous cell carcinoma is an aggressive form of cancer with a high metastasis rate but the receptor-mechanisms involved in Ca2+ signaling in these tumors have not yet been elucidated. In our present study, we report that bradykinin induces Ca2+ signaling and its modulation in the human oral squamous carcinoma cell line, HSC-3. Bradykinin was found to increase the cytosolic Ca2+ levels in a concentration-dependent manner. This increase was inhibited by pretreatment with the phospholipase C-β inhibitor, U73122, and also by 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate, an inhibitor of the inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor. Pretreatment with extracellular ATP also inhibited the peak bradykinin-induced Ca2+ rise. In contrast, the ATP-induced rise in cytosolic Ca2+ was not affected by pretreatment with bradykinin. Pretreatment of the cells with either forskolin or phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (activators of adenylyl cyclase and protein kinase C, respectively) prior to bradykinin application accelerated the recovery of cytosolic Ca2+ to baseline levels. These data suggest that bradykinin receptors are functional in Ca2+ signaling in HSC-3 cells and may therefore represent a future target in treatment strategies for human oral squamous cell carcinoma.

        In this study, positive plates of lead acid battery of Pb-Ca alloy and Pb-Ca-Sn alloy were fabricated and the mechanical characteristics of positive plates were measured. This study observed how the changes of content of Ca & Sn affect interface corrosion which is located in between grid & active materials and lead acid batteries as well. The mechanical characteristics of grid alloy is better when Ca is 0.05 wt.% then 0.1 wt.%. This study said that the corrosion rate between the active material based on the charge/discharge cycle of lead acid battery and grid interface is much faster than a grid which contains Sn. And furthermore, according to the study the rate 30 of Sn/Ca which is added to grid shows the best performance.

        Spray pyrolysis was applied to prepare (M=Ca, Sr, Ba) blue phosphor powder. The library of a Ca-Sr-Ba ternary system was obtained by a combinatorial method combined with the spray pyrolysis in order to optimize the luminescent property under vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation. 10 potential compositions were chosen from the first screening. The emission shifted to longer wavelength as Ca became a dominant element and the emission intensity was greatly reduced in the composition region at which Ba is dominant element. On the base of the first screening result, the second fine tuning was carried out in order to optimize the luminescence intensity under VUV excitation. The optimal composition for the highest luminescence intensity was which had the color coordinate of (0.152, 0.072) and about 64% emission intensity of (BAM) phosphor.

        Spectral line profiles of filaments/prominences to be observed by the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) are studied. The main spectral lines of interests are Hα Ca II 8542, and Ca II K. FISS has a high spectral resolving power of 2 x 105, and supports simultaneous dual-band recording. This instrument will be installed at the 1.6m New Solar Telescope (NST) of Big Bear Solar Observatory, which has a high spatial resolution of 0.065" at 500nm. Adopting the cloud model of radiative transfer and using the model parameters inferred from pre-existing observations, we have simulated a set of spectral profiles of the lines that are emitted by a filament on the disk or a prominence at the limb. Taking into account the parameters of the instrument, we have estimated the photon count to be recorded by the CCD cameras, the signal-to-noise ratios, and so on. We have also found that FISS is suitable for the study of multi-velocity threads in filaments if the spectral profiles of Ca II lines are recorded together with Hα lines

        In spray pyrolysis, the effects of the preparation temperature, flow rate of the carrier gas and concentration of the spray solution on characteristics such as the morphology, size, and emission intensity of Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2:Eu2+ phosphor powders under long-wavelength ultraviolet light were investigated. The phosphor powders obtained post-treatment had a range of micron sizes with regular morphologies. However, the composition, crystal structure and photoluminescence intensity of the phosphor powders were affected by the preparation conditions of the precursor powders. The Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2:Eu2+ phosphor powders prepared at temperatures that were lower and higher than 700˚C had low photoluminescence intensities due to deficiencies related to the of Cl component. The phosphor powders with the deficient Cl component had impurity peaks of Ca2SiO4. The optimum flow rates of the carrier gas in the preparation of the Ca8Mg(SiO4)4Cl2:Eu2+ phosphor powders with high photoluminescence intensities and regular morphologies were between 40 and 60 l/minute. Phosphor powders prepared from a spray solution above 0.5 M had regular morphologies and high photoluminescence intensities.

        The dc resistivity and thermoelectric power of bilayered perovskite La1.4(Sr0.2Ca1.4)Mn2O7 weremeasured as a function of the temperature. In the ferromagnetic phase, ρ(T) was accurately predicted by a0+a2T2+a4.5T4.5 with and without an applied field. At high temperatures, a significant difference between theactivation energy deduced from the electrical resistivity and thermoelectric power, a characteristic of smallpolarons, was observed. All of the experimental data can be feasibly explained on the basis of the small polaron.

        The phase transformations and luminescent properties of Eu-doped Ca1-xSrxAl2O4 phosphors were investigated. Ca1-xSrxAl2O4:Eu2+ phosphors were synthesized by a solid-state reaction with a flux, H3BO3. A phase transformation from monoclinic CaAl2O4 to monoclinic SrAl2O4 was observed as the x values increased. A high-temperature hexagonal phase of SrAl2O4 was formed during this transformation as an intermediate phase under an H2 atmosphere due to oxygen vacancies; this did not occur in an air atmosphere. Accordingly, the emission spectra shifted from a blue region to a green region as x increased.

        본 논문은 지하매설 철 구조물의 전기적 부식방지를 위해 Mg 희생양극을 사용하는 부식방지 기술에 대한 연구 또한 활발히 진행되고 있다. Mg 희생양극은 지하에 매설되는 철 구조물(파이프, 탱크, 파일, 고정 앵커 등)을 부식으로부터 보호하기 위하여 사용되는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 종래의 산화 소화용 표면 보호재로 이용되고 있는 비교적 값이 싼 CaCl2 염화물을 이용하여 마그네슘 합금제조 시 CaCl2 염화물의 표면보호 효과 및 제조된 Mg-Ca 합금들의 전기화학적 특성을 조사하였다 금속 Ca가 아닌 산화방지 및 소화 용제로 이용되고 있는 염화물(CaCl2)을 이용하여 자연부식 전위 값이 -1.695VSCE 이하, 사용효율도 59% 이상인 Mg-Mn-Ca 희생양극제의 제조기술을 확립하였다.

        Von Ebner's glands (vEG) are minor salivary glands associated with circumvallate and foliate papilla. The secretions of vEG consist of microenvironment of the taste buds in the circumvallate and foliate papillae, and thus saliva from vEG plays a role in the perception of taste. The Ca²+ signaling system in rat vEG acinar cell was examined using the Ca²+-sensitive fluorescent indicator Fura-2. Agonist-induced increase in intracellular Ca²+([Ca²+]i) was stimulated by carbachol (CCh) and substance P (SP), but not by norepinephrine (NE), and recovered to control levels by their receptor antagonists dose-dependently. The effects were also observed in Ca²+-free medium, suggesting mobilization from intracellular Ca²+ store. These results in the vEG acinar cell indicate that 1) [Ca²+]i is at least regulated by muscarinic and neurokininergic (NK1) receptors; 2) the increases in [Ca²+]i activated by CCh and SP are mainly mediated by discharge of cytosolic calcium pool.

        In order to accelerate the sintering of Al-Bronze powder covered with passive oxide film, we focused on the way to add Al-Ca fluoride consisting of and , examined the effect of the mixing rate in Al-Ca fluoride, the amount of the added Al-Ca fluoride and the sintering temperature on sintering properties of Al-Bronze powder and considered the mechanism of the sintering acceleration. Al-Bronze powder was sintered most effectively by adding Al-Ca fluoride with the mixing rate of 20mass%. If the amount of added fluoride was over 0.05mass% and the sintering temperature was over 1123K, the sintering acceleration of the Al-Bronze powder appears. Regarding the mechanism of the sintering acceleration, it was presumed that film on the surface of the Al-Bronze particles was removed in the process of the formation of gaseous AlOF by the reaction with , and the reaction was accelerated further by the presence of the liquid phase which is formed in Al-Ca fluoride.
