In this study, an experiment was conducted on the domestic cultivar 'White and Cool' on a farm in Taean to compare the effects of conventional soil cultivation and net cultivation to increase yield and reduce labor input time during outdoor gladiolus cultivation. The above- and below-ground growth, yield, and input labor time were investigated after cultivating half of the seedlings using the conventional cultivation method and the other half using the net cultivation method. There was no difference in the above- or below-ground growth between net cultivation and conventional cultivation. However, the labor input time decreased 2.57 times, the yield of the irrigated area increased by 3%, and the self-fertilization yield increased by 28%. Based on these results, several factors should be considered during net cultivation. First, loose netting should be used for root development. Second, care should be taken while flattening when planting seedlings, and after sowing, the area should be covered with a net to prevent drying. Third, after completion of the installation, compaction should be performed to ensure close contact between the soil and netting, and after removing the space between the nets, the seedlings should be irrigated to induce early rooting.

순백색 바탕에 연자색 화심이 있는 만생종 글라디 올러스 '듀오'가 2000년 국립원예특작과학원(구 원예연 구소)에 의해 개발되었다. '듀오'는 어두운 핑크색 조생 종 '트루러브'에 밝은 핑크색 중형종 '마담발딕'을 교배 한 조합에서 선발되었다. 1996년에 교배하여 얻은 실 생 종자를 파종, 1997년에 처음 선발하였으며 2000년 까지 4년에 걸쳐 생육특성검정을 하였다. 鍍扇잇는 백 색 바탕에 연자색 화심이 있는 절화용 품종으로 만생종이면서 꽃대가 휘지 않는 강한 초세를 갖고 있다. 따라서 여름철 노지 재배용으로 이용이 가능하다. 또한 장마철 습해에도 강하고 구근부패병에 강해 장마철 절 화가 가능한 품종이다. 생육속도는 매우 빠르며 구근 번식력도 좋다. 듀오의 여름철 개화소요일수는 97일 정도이며 구근생산재배 시 품질 좋은 구근생산을 위해 생육 기간 중 추비를 1-2회 뿌려 주는 것이 좋다.

순백색 바탕에 자주색 화심이 있는 조생종 글라디올러 스 ‘아리랑’이 1998년 국립원예특작과학원(구 원예연구소) 에 의해 개발되었다. '아리랑'은 어두운 오렌지색 조생종 ‘아리안느’에 밝은 홍적색 대형종 국산품종인 ‘홍광’을 교배한 조합에서 선발되었다. 1993년에 교배하여 얻은 실 생 종자를 파종, 1994년에 처음 선발하였으며 1998년까지 5년에 걸쳐 생육특성검정을 하였다. 아리랑은 밝은 백색 바탕에 자주색 화심이 있는 절화용 품종으로 조생종이면서 꽃대가 휘지 않는 강한 초세를 갖고 있다. 따라서 여 름철 노지 재배용으로 이용이 가능하다. 또한 장마철 습 해에도 강하고 구근부패병에 강해 장마철 절화가 가능한 품종이다. 생육속도는 매우 빠르며 구근 번식력도 좋다. 아리랑의 여름철 개화소요일수는 75일 정도이며 구근 생산재배 시 품질 좋은 구근생산을 위해 생육 기간 중 추비를 1-2회 뿌려 주는 것이 좋다.

실험식물로는 Gladiolus gandavenesis L. ‘Spic and Span’과 ‘Nova Lux’를 사용하였다. ‘Spic and Span’의 경우 맹아된 지상부 생육의 경우 초장, 엽수, 및 맹아수 등에서는 큰 차이가 없었다. 초장, 엽수 총 맹아수는 전체적으로 유의성은 없었다. 엽폭은 NH4 +:NO3 − 비율이 50:50일 때 1.38로 유의성이 컸다. ‘Spic and Span’의 경우 전체적으로 NH4 +:NO3 − 비율 의 영향을 받지 않는 것으로 생각된다. 지하부 생육을 살펴보면 구고, 구생체중 등에서 비슷한 생육을 보였으 나 NO3 −가 증가할수록 목자수가 2.4개로 유의성 있게 많았다. ‘Nova Lux’의 지상부 생육은 NH4 +:NO3 − 비 율이 50:50에서 가장 좋았다. 초장은 모든 처리구에서 유의성이 없었고, 엽폭은 1.45cm로 가장 컸으며, 총 맹아수는 25개로 많았다. NH4 +가 증가할수록 구직경, 구고, 생체중, 목자수 등의 지하부 생육은 증가하는 경 향이었다. 전체적으로 두 품종 모두 지상부 생육은 NH4 +:NO3 − 비율이 50:50에서 가장 좋았고, 지하부 생 육에서 ‘Spic and Span’은 NO3 −, ‘Nova Lux’는 NH4 +가 많으면 목자가 많이 생산되었다.

그라디오러스에 발생하는 바이러스병을 포장에서 조사한 결과 이 병율이 이었다. BYMV는 명아주에 엽맥괴사병징, 강남콩에 심한 모자익 병징 그리고 잠두에 모자익 병길을 일으켰다. CMV는 명아주에 국부병반, 담배와 오이에 모자익 병징을 일으켰다. 분류 동정된 두 바이러스는 모두 복숭아 혹진딧물에 의하여 전염되었다. 바이러스를 순화하여 흡광도를 측정한 결과 두 바이러스 모두 260nm에서 최고의 흡광도를 나타내었다. 한천내확산법을 이용한 항혈청과의 반응 결과 SDS를 처리한 BYMY와 CMV는 각각 그 바이러스의 항혈청과 뚜렷한 반응대를 형성하였다. 바이러스 입자의 진자현미경검경 과파 BYMV는 길이가 750nm였으며, CMV는 직경이 30nm이었다.

A new white multi-flowering gladiolus with pale greenish core “Wind Ensemble” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2003. A cross was made between white multi-flowering cultivar “White Nova”, which was released at the NHRI in 2002 and white line “95-24 (True Love × Madame Valdiek)”. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2003 after investigation of the characteristics for 4 years from 2000 to 2003. “Wind Ensemble” has multiple middle sized florets. This cultivar is middle flowering without stem bending. It has good production of cormlets, vigorous growth and resistant to virus, Fusarium and thrips. The width of “Wind Ensemble” flower is 11.2 cm. The plant height is 130 cm. Days to flowering of “Wind Ensemble” is average 100days in summer season.

A new bright white gladiolus “White Lace” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2004. A cross was made between late flowering white cultivar “White Goddess” and vigorous white cultivar “Amsterdam”. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2004 after investigation of the characteristics for 5 years from 2000 to 2004. “White Lace” has a bright white color and multi-flowering florets more than 20 florets with good simultaneous flowering more than 8 florets. This cultivar is middle flowering without stem bending. It has good production of cormlets, vigorous growth and resistant to virus, Fusarium and Thrips. The width of “White Lace” flower is 11.5 cm. The plant height is 137cm. Days to flowering of “White Lace” is average 93days in summer season.

A new bright pink gladiolus “May Queen” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2004. A cross was made between early flowering pink cultivar “Calista” and early flowering white cultivar “White Friendship”. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2004 after investigation of the characteristics for 5 years from 2000 to 2004. “May Queen” has a bright pink color with white core as a cut flower. This cultivar is early flowering without stem bending. It has good production of cormels and resistant to Fusarium and Thrips. The width of “May Queen” flower is 11.0 cm. The plant height is 121 cm. Days to flowering of “May Queen” is average 92days in summer season.

A new bright scarlet gladiolus “Adlib Scarlet” was released by the National Horticultural Research Institute (NHRI) in 2003. A cross was made between early flowering salmon line “94-18 (Arianne×Hongkwang)” and early flowering salmon cultivar “Adlib Salmon”, which was released at the NHRI in 2000. It was crossed in 1999 and finally selected in 2003 after investigation of the characteristics for 4 years from 2000 to 2003. “Adlib Scarlet” has a multiple middle sized bright scarlet florets with good simultaneous flowering. This cultivar is early flowering and moderately resistant against virus and neck rot. It has vigorous growth without stem bending. The width of “Adlib Scarlet” flower is 10.8 cm. The plant height is 132 cm. Days to flowering of “Adlib Scarlet” is average 92days in summer season.
