The results of managing odor controlled areas which were the industrial complexes in Incheon area were estimated to produce the improvement methods of management those areas. The odor characteristics and the state of odor detection by questions with living citizens neighboring the area were estimated and many kinds of odors were smelt with the locations and the elapse of time. And the more effective management methods in odor controlled regions were investigated.

H₂S adsorption characteristics of adsorbent made by sewage sludge were investigated. The manufacturing method of adsorbent used in this experiment is to mix sewage sludge, waste lime, the high-alumina cement, NaHCO₃, and activated carbon. For analyses of the manufactured adsorbent, various methods such as scanning electron microscope (SEM), measurements of BET surface area and pore volume were adopted. As operating variables, adsorption temperature (25~45 ℃), H₂S concentration (2.48~31.62 ㎎/L) and the kinds of adsorbent were applied. As major adsorption characteristics, adsorption rate and adsorption equilibrium capacity were measured by using batch type experimental apparatus. The experimental result showed that the BET surface area of the calcinated sewage sludge was 83.3 ㎡/g, which indicates 4 times higher than that of non calcination and the BET surface area of adsorbent made by sewage sludge mixing with various by-products ranged over 265 to 286 ㎡/g. It was also found that the H₂S adsorption equilibrium capacity of adsorbent made by sewage sludge decreases with increasing temperature, but increases with increasing H₂S concentration. Through the evaluation of adsorption isotherm model, it was found that H₂S adsorption isotherm for adsorbent made by sewage sludge can be expressed well by Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm equation.

The objectives of this study were to analyze the characteristics of odor in the major facilities of a fishery industrial complex using the air dilution olfactory method and the instrumental analysis method. The results indicate that although the limit of dilution to threshold (D/T) ratio in the major facilities is not regulated by the Odor Emission Standard, the mean (D/T) ratio over than 3,000 which is higher than the limit in the outlet of industrial area 3 times was found at three sampling sites. In the case of the concentration of the malodorous compounds, ammonia concentration is higher than any other odor compounds. The methyl mercaptan, n-Butyric acid and hydrogen sulfide as the main pollutants are confirmed by the odor quotient (OQ). In our study, it is showed a moderately good correlation between the (D/T) ratio and the sum of OQ. By this result, we can estimate the odor characteristics and evaluate the potential impact of each odor compound. In addition, we consider that it will affect the people"s normal life and even cause for complaint around the boundary area by the diffusion of odor.

This study was carried out to estimate the usefulness of metal oxide semiconductor(MOS) sensor as an odor measuring instrument. In this study, sensor output for 12 legal malodorous compounds was measured by two kinds of the marketed MOS sensor and was investigated the correlation coefficient between sensor output and odor indicators as like odor concentration, air dilution ratio. As a results, it was estimated that MOS sensor has a high use possibility as odor measuring device for the single compound analysis, as the correlation coefficient between sensor outputs and odor concentration, R2 appeared to 0.9 or more high.
