This study was conducted to determine distribution and characteristics of odors in Yeo-su industrial complex. The sampling of odor compounds was performed from may to september in 2009, twice a month, both morning and afternoon. The analytical items were meteorological data, complex odor, legally-designated 17 odor compounds. Complex odor and 17 odor compounds in Yeo-su industrial complex were suitable in emmission standard(s). The major odor compounds were appeared to be Hydrogen sulfide, Methyl mercaptan, Trimethyl amine, Ammonia. So, the industrial complex in Yeo-su was influenced by the Nitrogen and Sulfide odor substances. The distribution of concentration was investigated Ammonia> Stylene> Xylene> Acetaldehyde in order. We suggest that VOCs, causing the odor problem in Yeo-su, should be mutually controlled with Hazardous Air Monitoring Network.

Odor intensities, odor concentrations and volatile amine compounds were investigated at the two piggeries in Korea and the one in Japan. It was confirmed that the piggery where odor control had been carried out intentionally showed the lower values of sensory measurement than those where the odor control had not been under consideration and also found that the concentrations of volatile amines in the odor-controlled piggery showed lower values rather than the uncontrolled. In this investigation, we conclude that the activities such as circulation of air in pig houses, spraying deodorants and feeding the additive that is effective for reducing malodors from piggery could decrease the odors and the concentrations of volatile amines that are the cause of offensive odors from piggery.

This study aims to produce the threshold values of 12 specified offensive odor substances based on the 3 point comparison method instead of the 2 point comparison method of ASTM or CEN. As a result, the threshold values of individual odor substances, including Methyl mercaptane, Hydrogen sulfide, Trimethylamine, and I-Valeraldehyde ranged between 0.0001∼0.001ppm, while the values of Styrene and Ammonia were relatively higher than of other substances at 1.8ppm and 0.04 ppm respectively. The threshold values of the 12 specified odor substances were compared in Korea and overseas, which showed that the characteristics of olfactory response varied by substance and nation. When it comes to acetaldehyde or hydrogen sulfide, western countries, including the United States, tended to quite insensible compared to Koreans. Japanese people were more sensitive in the 12 specified odor substances than Koreans in general, suggesting that it is not only because of its olfactory ability, but because of the calculation method that produces Japan‘s dilution threshold values approximately 1.5 times as high as Korea"s.

This study aims to understand the correlation between odor intensity and dilution factor using the Air Dilution Olfactory Method, which is suggested in the Standard method of Odor Compounds, by measuring odor intensity and dilution factor for NH₃, TMA and styrene. For the measurement, 13 panel members were selected through a panel test, and odor intensity and dilution factor by substance produced from the selected panel were estimated. The estimation showed that the correlation of odor intensity with dilution factor for NH₃, TMA and styrene can be reasonably expressed by the equation [I=AㆍLog D +0.5]. The result of this study is suggested to be used as a base data for research on measures to improve the regulation standards for complex odor concentration at a boundary site in operation, as well as a correlation between odor intensity, concentration and dilution factor for the designated odor substances, and their characteristics.

Occurrence of livestock malodor cause to increase in health impact and thus to increase in public interest. Therefore scientific methods to decrease odor is required. Decrease of odor from cow and pig excreata, however, has not fully been successful. The purpose of this research was to select and assess the microorganism can reduce NH₃ produced from cow excreata. Microorganisms which having potential to decrease odor were isolated from cow excreata The strain NIAST-1 which can decrease odor material, was isolated from among the samples of livestock farm located in Yang-phyang. The isolated strain was identified as Pseudomonas stutzeri with respect to its physiological characteristics and 16s RNA sequencing method. Cell-free supernatant was found to have good and stable odor removing activity. Optimal condition and composition of culture medium were determined as follows: glucose (anhydride) 1.2% (w/v), yeast extract 0.6% (v/v), and temperature (28 ℃), agitaion rate (180 rpm) and aeration rate(0.1 L/min). In field test, microbial agents composed of ASA(Pseudomonas stutzerie) showed marked removal activity of ammonia gas (25%) and hydrogen sulfide (14.5%) gas produced from five ton scale pig storage container. Also this study focussed to assay the characteristics and utilization of environment friendly agricultural materials at laboratory and greenhouse.

When it evaluates the odor actual investigation of the odor control restricts in Gyeonggi-do during 2004 and 2009 year, The complex odor at 4 industrial complexes was appeared gradually to be decreased after 2006 year, Excess cases of standard in Banwol, Sihwa, Banwol plating, and Asan industrial complexes were 9 times, 9times, one times and one times respectively, Excess odor substances changed every year in Sihwa and Banwol industrial complex, but Hydrogen sulfide is exceeded odor emission standards in 2006, 2007, 2009 year continually. On the other hand, the cases that complex odor and specified odor substances were exceeded simultaneously were 40.9% of total, and the rest of cases were estimated as to be caused by the other appointment compounds or the lack of quality control. The corelation (R²) of complex odor concentration and the number of resident complaint was 0.434 at Sihwa industrial complex, 0.878 at Banwol industrial complex and 0.434 at Asan industrial complex. also, corelation (R²) of complex odor and data of odor auto monitoring was 0.145 at Sihwa industrial complex and 0.964 at Banwol industrial complex. therefore, Sihwa industrial complex is partially demanded the check of sampling site and the quality control on the complex odor.
