This study analyzes residents’ views on rural resources and facilities necessary for rural resource development. The data utilized for the analysis is a questionnaire targeting local residents living in Yuchon-ri, Musu-ri, Yudeung-myeon, Sunchang-gun, and Jeollabuk-do. The analysis methods used herein include multi-attribute utility theory, to assess the importance of community resources; variance analysis to determine the importance of developmental directions; and multiple response and cross-analysis to analyze the facilities required for each project. The results are as follows: “Seomjin River”, “specialized crops”, “Oktaek creek”, and the “bike lane along Seomjin River” were rated highly as community resources. Respondents evaluated the developmental directions in descending order of importance, i.e., “cultivating specialized crops”, “fostering environmentally-friendly agriculture”, “processing agricultural specialty products”, “improving rural landscapes”, “revitalizing rural tourism and hands-on experiences” and “ameliorating living environments”. Regarding facilities required for each project respondents prioritized “expanding basic living grounds”, the establishment of “health care maintenance facilities” and the “expansion and paving of village roads”. Also frequently requested were “facilities for increasing local incomes”, the “direct transaction of agricultural products”, “facilities for processing agricultural specialty products” and “establishing a distribution system for agricultural specialty products”. Many respondents also expressed their need for “sales facilities” and “facilities for hands-on experiences” in order to “revitalize rural tourism”. With respect to facilities for “ameliorating local landscapes” respondents wished to “establish community symbolic structures”, “plant roadside trees”, “revamp vacant or deserted properties” and “tidy up the areas surrounding community centers.” Needs were identified such as “education for local residents”, “community leader- fostering training”, and “taking tours of advanced areas” in order to “enhance the capabilities of local areas”, Given such analysis results, it can be seen that local residents place greater emphasis on the rural resource developments whereby they can better increase their revenues. Respondents would like the developmental directions from which they can create value related to producing, processing, and experiencing specialty crops. In order to set the direction for the development of these rural, future research must meticulously examine the resources scattered through rural and create measures that can be directly linked to rural household incomes and regional revenues.

This study examines the titles of poetry in order to analogize the original landscape of Byeolseo garden in Korea and China. This study analyzed the titles of Soswaewon 48 Poems and Humble Administrator’s Garden 31 Poems, comparing the form of the compositional form and the landscape elements of titles conveyed in them. The titles of the Soswaewon 48 Poems and the Humble Administrator’s Garden 31 Poems are made up of combinations of places, activities, meanings, and landscape elements. Soswaewon 48 Poems are composed of 「Landscape Elements + Landscape Elements」 and 「Place + Activity」, while Humble Administrator’s Garden 31 Poems are composed of 「Place + Meaning」 and 「Landscape Elements + Landscape Elements」. The Soswaewon 48 Poems clearly show the element of activity, whereas the Humble Administrator’s Garden 31 Poems show the element of meaning, which is different. Landscape elements that appear in the titles of both show more physical than symbolic elements. However, symbolic elements appear more in Humble Administrator’s Garden 31 Poems than Soswaewon 48 Poems. This is a characteristic of Chinese culture that valued Yijing, giving meaning to each component of the garden. Among physical elements, natural elements appeared more frequently in the Soswaewon 48 Poems than in the Humble Administrator’s Garden 31 Poems, whereas artificial elements appeared more in the Humble Administrator’s Garden 31 Poems.

This study analyzed the use suitability with regard to resource characteristics of provincial parks to provide basic data for park management, and has yielded the following results. Organized by resource, the use suitability is highest for landscape/scenery, weather/climate, smell/sound/colors, and topography/ geology. By season, weather/climate is important in the spring, and landscape/scenery is important in the summer and autumn in determining the use suitability. Aside from the temporary phenomena of the weather/climate, the resource that most influences the use suitability of provincial parks is landscape/scenery for spring, summer, and autumn. Specifically, on a park basis, Mt. Moak’s most important resource for park use suitability is the weather/climate; other parks’ most important resource is landscape/scenery. Mt. Moak and Mt. Seonun Provincial Parks have high use suitabilities in the spring; Mt. Daedun and Mt. Mai Provincial Parks have high use suitabilities in the spring and summer. Organizing parks on a seasonal basis, there are differences depending on the resource type; moreover, there are differences in use suitability between parks depending on the season. Through evaluating the use suitability of parks, it is possible to identify resource characteristics of parks and to predict the seasonal use frequency of parks in park management, which can be used as the basic data for determining the intensity of management. As such, this study can aid visitors in determining which park suits their use purposes, and for managers in determining the priority by which the parks should be managed.

The goal of this master plan is to revitalize the local economy and provide local citizens with a place for leisure activities by transforming the magnificent pine forestscape at Geumam neighborhood park into a tourism resource. The present study has analyzed and synthesized the natural and human environments of the target site, which is located in Noam-dong, Namwon-si, in Jeollabuk-do. This master plan has adopted a motto, “engage five senses in pine trees; entertain five senses for fine life”, to express its philosophy of how to utilize the resources of pine trees. To this end, the present study has specified the suggested contents based on literature review of the studies on pines. Beyond an ordinary theme park, this master plan has been designed to create a central space that connects many rural village forests located in Namwon. In this master plan, main facilities have been suggested: the pine exhibition/experience hall, where visitors can appreciate and experience various materials related to pines; and the pinewood cabin, which is built with huge pine trunks, providing multiple functions as a space for rest and recreation ; the healing forest, which utilizes the existing pine forest; the pine sculpture garden; and the pine poem garden. In addition, the present study suggests two representative tourism resources of Namwon as symbolic elements: the herbs and royal azaleas of Mt. Jiri. unique hands-on pine experience activities available at these spaces have been proposed in two categories: festival programs and year-round programs.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the behavior of users of the Seomjin River cycling road, which is surrounded by gorgeous natural landscape. Further, we aim to understand the correlation between the importance and performance of various factors rated by users to obtain baseline data that can help to increase the usage of the bike path. We conduct a survey by performing one-on-one interviews at three locations, all of which have a certification center that verifies the completion of the bike path. The bike path attracts visitors from all over the country. First-time visitors and travel plans involving stays of at least one night account for a relatively high percentage of users. The primary purpose of the visit was more related to mental health issues rather than physical health issues. The most attractive feature of the Seomjin River is the beautiful landscape. However, the participation rate from clubs is low, and the visit rate to nearby tourist attractions is also low for scheduling reasons. Important factors that are considered using the bike path are accessibility, safety, bike path condition, amenity, and convenience, while the connectivity has a relatively low importance. We confirm that the convenience of the bike path is as important as providing a safe and amenity while surrounded by gorgeous landscape. The amenity and safety are rated highly for performance and while accessibility and convenience have low rating. The analysis of the detail evaluation items showed that the performance was high for surrounding gorgeous landscape, and non-crowded setting and performance was lowest for inadequate bike repair facilities. A comparison of the importance and performance showed that the performance lower than the importance, and had statistical significance. Accessibility, which is an external environmental factor, had the largest difference. On the other hand, for the detail evaluation items, the degree of crowding, surrounding landscape, and experience opportunities did not have statistical significance, but had a higher performance. This confirmed that they were factors that had the highest satisfaction for the Seomjin River cycling road. Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA) results indicated that the items requiring consistent maintenance were surrounding landscape, bike path signs, safety from pedestrians and vehicles, and convenient accessibility. Items that required specific improvement were convenient transportation for returning home, pavement material, and the degree of damage. On the other hand, items that were more effective in terms of their ability to maintain the current conditions were experiences of nearby rural villages, accessibility to nearby tourist attractions, local tourist attractions, and bike repair facilities. The bike repair facilities option had a considerably low performance compared to the importance. For items that were rated with low importance but high performance, it was more effective to allocate the effort for corresponding sections to other items. However, for the degree of crowding, which belonged to this particular category, it was actually more efficient to place on attracting users in order to increase the usage of the bike path.

The purpose of this study is to identify the characteristics of landscape elements and landscape management plans, by comparing and analyzing those plans within the preservation management plan of the 4 provincial parks in Jeollabuk-do Province. A landscape management plan includes both natural and cultural landscape plans, in similar proportions. While a forest’s vegetation landscape is presented as the main focus of natural landscape management, temple landscape and landscape control points (LCPs) are the main focus of cultural landscape management. Analysis of the specific plans by the landscape management strategies, shows that an enhancement approach was incorporated into most of them, while reduction, avoidance, compensation and remediation approaches were also included in part. Management of natural landscape elements such as vegetation and forests is included in the plans, which aim to improve the negative factors and conditions that impair the landscape, by means of reduction, remediation, and compensation. Cultural landscape management such as LCP management, and management of temple landscape and other scenic elements, can usually be categorized as either enhancement or avoidance strategies. The objective of such plans appears to be the improvement of negative landscapes, through management strategies of reduction, remediation, avoidance, and compensation, while also managing the positive landscape elements with enhancement strategies. Historic-cultural landscape elements were revealed to be highly prioritized in provincial parks, as these landscape types were managed in every park in this study. Vegetation landscape management was concentrated at Mt. Moaksan, and this indicates that the importance of vegetation landscape is relatively low within the natural landscapes of the Jeollabuk-do provincial parks. Overall, management in each park appears to be focused on a unique landscape type characteristic of that park, such as vegetation, topographical, or facilities landscape.

A garden festival is characterized by its nature as a garden exhibition event. The Seoul Garden Festival was held to expand garden culture, increasing citizens’ quality of life, and also to achieve urban regeneration through discovery and development of features of various gardens in Seoul. Mother’s Garden of Memory is based on the motif of the gardens tended by mothers in the past, and inspires recollection of related memories and stories. Gardens tended by mothers in the past can be encountered today in everyday life as practical living gardens. Facilities and suitable space sizes for a living garden were selected based on previous research results. The exhibition garden was designed to include a fruit tree hill, medicinal plant/herb garden, and butterfly garden in its planting space; a vegetable garden in its multi-purpose space and production space; a pond in its waterscape space; and a seating wall in its resting space. Additionally, the garden’s plants consisted primarily of species that were suitable for the characteristics of each space, could be tended practically, and could be accessed easily. Finally, a garden management plan was established to provide a model for living gardens, ensuring that these gardens could be continuously sustained.

Community gardens provide the community with a green area for its residents to enjoy and socially interact with other gardeners. The expected benefits of participating in a community garden, aside from greater access to fresh produce, include increased mental health as well as improved general well-being stemming from increased exercise and socialization. The following is the research result conducted to provide a basic data for the construction of a community garden in a village. Once a community garden is put in place, the residents would intend to utilize it for their rest, stroll, exercise and appreciation. The number of respondents who would use a garden more than once a week turned out to be high, the reason behind which is construed as their willingness to utilize the garden as a place where they could relatively spend more leisure time later on given that the higher the respondents’ age became, the more often they would use the garden. Furthermore, as weekday afternoons’ or weekend afternoons’ participation has been high, it would be desirable if the garden revitalization or a community programs were conducted in line with this timeframe. The efficiency of the community garden would be enhanced when it is located within one kilometer where a person can walk in about 20 minutes. It is anticipated that once the community garden is built, it would be utilized as local residents’ hobby place and that it could serve as urban green space conducive to improving the landscape of a village, and overall, there are high expectations relating to this. As living infrastructure, the community garden can be utilized not just as a space for local residents’ leisure activities and rest areas but for their interactions. Thus, it is estimated that instead of applying a cookie-cutter garden design to all communities, a formulation of a garden needs to be made in a way that designs the space reflective of the characteristics of a community and that introduces needed facilities.
