A study on the denitrification of reverse osmosis(RO) concentrated wastewater from sewage reuse treatment plant in P city was conducted using waste desulfurization agent obtained from desulfurization process. Sulfur-based autotrophic denitrifying carrier comprises the predetermined amount of waste iron sulfide (FeS, Fe2S3), mine drainage sludge and elemental sulfur showing mesoporisity with 9.9 nm (99 Å) of average pore size. Sulfur denitrifying bacteria and sulfur reducing bacteria were implanted into the pores of sulfur denitrifying carrier. Nitrate was not affected by empty bed contact time (EBCT). It is probably due to larger reducing capacity of the carrier than the concentration of nitrate in RO concentrated wastewater. Total nitrogen (T-N) removal efficiency exhibited about 90% after 4 days. Sulfate ion was surprisingly decreased with sulfur autotropic process due to the reduction of sulfate ion to HS- and S2- by sulfur reducing bacteria. Sulfide and hydrogen sulfide ions were then taken by Fe(OH)3, main component of mine drainage sludge, releasing OH-. Alkalinity was therefore maintained between 7.5 and 8.5 in pH by the released OH-. Also, it had the effect of suppressing the production of H2S, which causes bad odor.

Purpose: This qualitative research was conducted to explore the experiences of social workers encountering peer conflicts among abused boys living in child counseling protection center (center) and psychosocially intervening to resolve peer conflicts. Methods: The participants were four social workers who were caring for twenty abused boys at the center. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interview, and field data. The collected data were analyzed by emic coding. Results: First, the experiences of social workers encountering peer conflict phenomena among abused boys were ‘psychological distortion from abuse trauma’, ‘manifestation of impulse or aggression to trivial stimuli’, and ‘lack of mutual respect among peers’. Second, the experiences of social workers intervening in resolving peer conflicts among abused boys were ‘stabilize offended feeling’, ‘maintain stability through verbal and non-verbal interventions’, ‘apply positive techniques to improve peer relations’, and ‘help abused children overcome trauma and grow’. Conclusion: Social workers confirmed that the role of social welfare experts was important to secure understanding and insight into peer conflicts between abused children and to convert the pain of abused children into positive energy. The results of this study will help social welfare professionals develop a family-centered abuse trauma recovery program for abused children.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the reality of the suffering as infertile women who are doing repeated ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) for pregnancy and childbirth. Methods: The data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s (1978) phenomenological method. Nine women receiving repetitive ART participated in semi-structured, in-depth interviews for this study. Results: Data analysis yielded sixteen themes which were grouped into four theme clusters: ‘Being demoted to a tool only for pregnancy’, ‘Struggling for the happiness hard to get’, ‘Standing loneliness alone on a solitary island’, and ‘Ongoing yearning for recognition by pregnancy and childbirth’. Conclusion: The findings provide further understanding of complex experiences of women receiving ART who were struggling with practical, psychological, and relational issues in their everyday lives. Based on the results of this study, health professionals are urged to support those women receiving repetitive ART by providing comprehensive caring programs that employ personal, social, and psychological approaches so that they can resolve such issues.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the lived experience of suffering from vision loss in adults with acquired visual impairment in South Korea. Methods: A phenomenological approach was used to inquire about the lived experience of suffering in 10 adults with acquired visual impairment. The data were collected through individual in-depth interviews. All interviews were audio-taped, and verbatim transcripts were made for the analysis. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. Results: Four theme clusters were extracted from the analysis. They were as follows: ‘blindness as nightmare becoming reality,’ ‘locking in the curtain of darkness,’ ‘living with wings lost,’ and finally ‘screaming with a suffering body and mind, in the darkness.’ Conclusion: The findings of this study provide a deep understanding and insights of the lived experience of suffering from vision loss in adults with acquired visual impairment. Based on the results of the study, health professionals can develop better caring programs to support adults with acquired visual impairment, and their family.
