In this study, we have prepared a Ti-6Al-4V/V/17-4 PH composite structure via a direct energy deposition process, and analyzed the interfaces using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The joint interfaces comprise two zones, one being a mixed zone in which V and 17-4PH are partially mixed and another being a fusion zone in the 17-4PH region which consists of Fe+FeV. It is observed that the power of the laser used in the deposition process affects the thickness of the mixed zone. When a 210 W laser is used, the thickness of the mixed zone is wider than that obtained using a 150 W laser, and the interface resembles a serrated shape. Moreover, irrespective of the laser power used, the expected  phase is found to be absent in the V/17-4 PH stainless steel joint; however, many VN precipitates are observed.

In the present work, Inconel 718 alloy is additively manufactured on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy, and a functionally graded material is built between Inconel 718 and Ti-6Al-4V alloys. The vanadium interlayer is applied to prevent the formation of detrimental intermetallic compounds between Ti-6Al-4V and Inconel 718 by direct joining. The additive manufacturing of Inconel 718 alloy is performed by changing the laser power and scan speed. The microstructures of the joint interface are characterized by scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and micro X-ray diffraction. Additive manufacturing is successfully performed by changing the energy input. The micro Vickers hardness of the additive manufactured Inconel 718 dramatically increased owing to the presence of the Cr-oxide phase, which is formed by the difference in energy input.

PURPOSES : In link matching using vehicular trajectory in a car navigation system, it is technically difficult to match the location of the subject vehicle with a link on an electronic map in the vehicle on a grade separation highway segment consisting of an elevated highway and atgrade highway, because of the overlap of geometric lines of the two highways. This study was initiated to propose a link matching algorithm using the characteristics of vehicular movement of the subject vehicle. METHODS : The selected test site is the highway segment between Jeong-reung IC and Gil-eum IC where the Inner Circulation Road and Jeong-reung-ro run together. To evaluate the proposed algorithm, this study collected the raw packet data of vehicles that drove on the test site. In a simulation environment, link matching was performed using an existing algorithm as well as the proposed algorithm. RESULTS: It was clearly found that the characteristics of vehicular movements are different on the two highways. CONCLUSIONS: The proposed algorithm outperformed the existing algorithm.

In this article, to predict the wear amount of nano particles in a worn nano composite, computational analysis pre/post-processor were developed using ABAQUS and visual basic programs. The abrasion, which is one of nano particles release scenarios, was applied in the computational analysis. Moreover, reciprocation, which is the abrasion type, was selected and incarnated in abrasion computational analysis. Also, to predict wear amount of nano composite in computational analysis, archard equation was applied and the predicted wear amount was evaluated compare with experimental value. The predicted wear amount of nano composite was increased in accordance with increasing force and was similar to result of experimental value.

In this article, we reported the characterization of mechanical properties for several scaffolds fabricated by different techniques: bio-plotter technique and WNM(wire-network molding). Firstly, we constructed numerical models for ABAQUS: a commercial computational analyzing program. Using ABAQUS, effective compressive are calculated and compared with the experimental results from UTM tests. The results show that the stiffness of the scaffold fabricated by WNM is stronger than that by bio-plotter technique.

In this article, we proposed a novel technique to fabricate cell‐culturing scaffold, that is, the hollowcylinder‐ grain assembly technique. This technique uses hollow cylindrical particles with sub‐mm thickness. Firstly, we fabricate PCL (polycaprolactone) hollow cylinder with sub-mm thickness using lab-made stainless steel mold. After that, we put the above-mentioned fabricated particles into a metal mold of which temperature could be controlled with hot plate and heat insulation system. PCL particles in the metal mold could be assembled together without severe collapsing under adequate temperature and time. Consequently, we could fabricate scaffold or foam structure with interconnected‐porosity and observed surface of cross section of fabricated scaffold by SEM.
