The overseas small ship market is witnessing a trend towards research aimed at substituting Fiber Reinforced Plastics (FRP), which poses environmental concerns, with High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) in the shipbuilding process. Given the low melting point and high coefficient of thermal expansion of HDPE, research on joint areas is essential. This study focuses on preliminary investigations into ensuring the integrity of joints in shipbuilding processes using HDPE materials. Utilizing the Hot Gas Extrusion Welding method, which is conducive to joining large structures such as ships, HDPE joints were conducted. The material properties were evaluated based on the ASTM D638-14 international standards. This research aims to provide fundamental knowledge on the joining process of HDPE through Hot Gas Extrusion Welding and offers guidance on ensuring the integrity of joints in shipbuilding.

It is essential to select materials with excellent mechanical properties to prevent chemical and mechanical damage to the surfaces of materials used in machines and structures and to extend their lifespan. Co-based stellite alloy, which has wear resistance, heat resistance, and corrosion resistance, is essential for products used in harsh environments. However, due to the problem of enormous costs, research on hard facing, which uses a stellite coating layer only on the contact surface, is urgently required. Currently, high-facing research on Stellite coating layers is focused on powder, and GMAW research using wire is relatively lacking. In this study, welding experiments were performed to form stable weld beads using stellite 6 welding wire, and the correlation between parameters and weld beads was analyzed. A CMT welder was used to minimize the heat effect on the base material.

The cutting process, which is a key processing technology in various industrial fields is achieving continuous growth, and the demand for high-quality cutting surfaces is continuously demanded. Plasma cutting continues to be studied for its excellent workability and productivity, but problems with cutting surface quality such as dross formation occur, so research to secure excellent cutting surface quality through appropriate control of process variables is essential. In this study, we propose a method for predicting surface roughness using real-time current and cutting speed data obtained while performing plasma cutting on A106 B steel pipe. Surface roughness was predicted based on the RBF algorithm applicable to prediction and control models. It was shown that the surface roughness of the plasma cutting surface can be predicted with the arc current waveform and process speed data. This study can be used as a basic study to control the surface roughness of the cut surface in real time.

Due to its excellent processability, thermal conductivity and high corrosion resistance, copper tubes applied to heat exchangers are being joined through brazing to increase heat exchange efficiency. In order to improve performance, the issue of joint quality of copper tubes, a major member of heat exchangers, is emerging, so research is needed to obtain excellent joint quality of brazing joints that may be damaged. In this study, the quality change of joints according to process variables was studied through induction heating brazing experiments using high frequency. The depth of penetration, which indicates the quality of the junction, was measured, and the center position of the high-frequency electrode and the height of the electrode, which change the location of the heat source applied to the junction, were selected as process variables. Lastly, the thermal image data obtained between the brazing experiments were obtained and the joint quality according to the temperature gradient of the joint was analyzed.

Stainless steel is used in many industrial fields due to its excellent properties such as workability, strength, ductility, and corrosion resistance, and various properties required in the manufacturing field depending on the constituent components. pump impellers used in seawater and underwater require high corrosion resistance and high rigidity to prevent corrosion and damage, so they are a representative part group to which Stainless materials are applied. Through the introduction of the CMT(Cold Metal Transfer) process, a manufacturing method through WAAM(Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) technology, which has advantages of lower production cost and excellent fatigue strength compared to the existing casting method, is being proposed. Recently, prior research on the WAAM process has been conducted on various materials, but most of the research results published so far are focused on the DED(Direct Energy Deposition) process, and a good WAAM shape design study using austenitic stainless steel is lacking. in this study, using the CMT process, the relationship between the change in bead shape and process parameters was confirmed in the BoP(Bead on Plate) welding experiment using wire made of austenitic stainless steel STS-308.

The use of heat exchangers in various applications such as chemical, air conditioning systems, fuel processing, and power industries is increasing. In order to improve the performance of the heat exchanger, the problem of bonding quality of the copper tube, which is a major member, is emerging. However, since the copper tube is in the form of a pipe, it is difficult to identify internal defects with external factors. In this study, a thermal imaging camera was used to develop and verify an algorithm for detecting defects in the brazing part, and in the process, the brazing performance characteristics were analyzed according to the electrode position, and finally, a learning model was developed and performance evaluation was performed. It was confirmed that the method of supplying heat to the base material and melting the filler metal through the heat transfer effect is more effective than supplying heat input to the filler metal in the bonding process of copper tubes through high-frequency induction heating brazing. Thermal image data was used to develop a defect discrimination model, and 80% of training data and 20% of test data were selected, and a neural network-based single-layer copper tube brazing defect discrimination model was developed through k-Flod cross-validation., the prediction accuracy of 95.2% was confirmed as a result of the error matrix analysis.

Shingal reservoir is a relatively small (211ha) and shallow impoundment, and approximately 25 ha of its sediment is exposed after spring drawdown. At least 14 vascular plant species germinate on the exposed sediment, but Persicaria vulgaris Webb et Moq. quickly dominates the vegetation. In order to estimate the role of the vegetation in the dynamics of heavy metal pollutants in the reservoir, Cu concentration of water, fallout particles, exposed sediment, and tissues of P. vulgaris, was analyzed. Cu content in reservoir water decreased from 13.10㎎/㎡ on May 15 (before drawdown) to 3.08㎎/㎡ in June 1 (after drawdown), mainly due to the lowering of water level. Average atmospheric deposition of Cu by fallout particles was 10.84 μ g/㎡/day. Cu content in the surface 15㎝ of exposed sediment decreased from 5.094g/㎡ right after drawdown, to 0.530g/㎡ in 41 days, which is a 89.6% decrease. Therefore up to 99.7% of Cu in the reservoir appears to exist in the sediment, only 0.3% in water. If the rate of atmospheric input by fallout particles is assumed to have been the same since 1958, when the reservoir was completed, cumulative input of Cu during the 38 years would have been 150.35㎎/㎡, which is only 3.0% of Cu content in sediment right after drawdown. Therefore, most of Cu in the Shingal reservoir must have been transported by the Shingal-chun flowing into the reservoir. Standing crop of vegetation on the exposed sediment 41 days after drawdown was 730.67g/㎡, of which 630.91g/㎡ was P. vulgaris alone, and Cu content in P. vulgaris at this time was 6.612㎎/㎡. This was only 0.13% of Cu in the exposed sediment, but was 50.5% of Cu in water before drawdown, or 167% of the average annual input of Cu by atmospheric deposition. If other plants were assumed to absorb Cu to the same concentration as P. vulgaris, total amount of Cu absorbed in 41 days by vegetation on the exposed sediment is estimated to be 1913.3 g, which is a considerable contribution to the purification of the reservoir water.
