On-The-Fly (OTF) observation method is developed for the efficient use of 6 M radio telescope at Seoul Radio Astronomy Observatory (SRAO). This technique, in which data and information of antenna position are recorded synchronously while driving a telescope regularly and rapidly across a field, provides more efficient use of telescope time and better calibration of the acquired data than the traditional point-to-point observation method does. For the realization of the method, we (1) added RT-Linux modules to the existing operating system, (2) replaced digital voltmeter with voltage-to-frequency converter, and (3) modified many SRAO observation programs. By observing Moon and G78.2+2.7 using this method and comparing them with previous observations, we verify the successful operation and efficiency of the OTF observation mode.

In order to reduce the small scale fluctuation resulting from shearing holograpy(Park et. al. 1997), differential panel adjustments were performed for 14 m radio telescope of Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory with T2 theodolite It appears that this method improves the surface accuracy by about 50μm 50μm . The measured surface accuracy is, at best, 170μm 170μm . The beam efficiency at 86.2 GHz is estimated to be 44% We also found that the elevation at which Park et. al. performed holography was too low.

We have developed a measurement system with which harmful radio noise can be detected. It was designed to cover 1GHz band width centered at l.5GHz and 22.2GHz (H2O H2O line). The system consists of pyramid horn antennas, receivers, equatorial tracking system, spectrum analyzer, and PC for the control of the servo and data taking. As a test of the system, the site of Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory (TRAO) was investigated to see if there is any harmful radio interference. It is found that in 22GHz band there is no significant radio noise, but there are identified and unidentified artificial radio signals in 1-2GHz range. However a simple calculation of radiation power shows that it is week enough not to affect the observations in TRAO.

We made a pyramidal horn antenna system for 21cm cosmic radio wave. The antenna system has a rectangular waveguide with TE10 TE10 mode and a copper probe to detect the electromagnetic wave in waveguide. The parameters of the probe are obtained by experiments using two waveguides. Pyramidal horn antenna is designed to get a gain of 20dB. The size of the aperture of this horn is 94cm×74cm 94cm×74cm . The beam width of half power is about 14.7∘ 14.7∘ for the frequency of 1.4GHz. The horn is made of aluminum plate with a thickness of 2mm. The signal from horn and waveguide is amplified in a receiver system and is converted into DC in the detecter. The intensity of the signal is recorded on a chart recorder. We observed the sun using this simple radio telescope and obtained the brightness temperature of 2.2×105K 2.2×105K , which indicates that the sun is quiet at 21cm.
