        ‘서명’은 서남부 간척지적응성 고품질 벼품종육성을 목적 으로 2000/2001년 동계에 국립식량과학원 벼맥류부에서 간 척지적응성 우량계통인 계화21호를 모본으로 하고 단간, 내 도복 복합내병성인 ‘밀양165호’를 부본으로 인공교배하였다. F3 이후부터는 계통육종법에 의하여 육성 선발하여 2005년부 터 2006년까지 생산력검정을 실시한 결과 고품질, 내도복, 내 병성인 HR22240-29-5-3-3 계통을 계화30호로 계통명을 부 여하였다. 2007년부터 2009년까지 지역적응시험을 실시한 결과 서남부 간척지에 적응성이 높고 내도복성이며 미질이 우수한 계통으로 인정되어 2009년 12월 농촌진흥청의 농작 물 직무육성 신품종 선정심의회에서 ‘서명’으로 명명하였다. 서명은 남서해안지 및 호남·영남평야지의 보통기재배에서 평 균 출수기는 8월 14일로 ‘남평벼’보다 2일 빠른 중만생종이 다. 간장은 70 cm, 주당수수는 12개, 수당립수는 87개이며 등숙률은 93.0%, 현미 천립중이 22.8 g인 단립종이다. 도열 병 밭못자리 검정에서 강한 반응을 보였고 내구저항성도 강 한 품종이며 깨씨무늬병과 줄무늬잎마름병에 저항성이나 기 타 바이러스병 및 흰잎마름병, 해충에는 약한 품종이다. 내냉 성 검정에서 유묘적고, 출수지연, 임실률은 남평벼와 비슷했 고, 수발아율은 36%로 ‘남평벼’ 보다 높은 편이며 도복에 강 한 반응을 보였다. 쌀 외관은 심복백이 없이 맑고 투명하며 식미와 관련된 단백질함량 및 아밀로스함량은 각각 7.2% 및 19.3%였고, 밥맛 관능검정에서는 0.06으로 경기도산 추청벼 0.17보다 낮았다. 도정특성 중 제현율과 도정률, 완전미도정 수율은 남평벼보다 높았고 백미완전립률은 97.2%로 ‘남평벼’ 98.2% 보다 낮았다. 쌀 수량은 보통기 보비재배에서 중서부지 에서는 5.6 MT/ha로 ‘화성벼’ 대비 10%가 증수되었고 남서 부해안지에서 5.5 MT/ha, 영남평야지에서 5.6 MT/ha로 ‘남평 벼’ 대비 1-2% 증수하였으며 호남평야지에서는 5.7 MT/ha로 ‘남평벼’ 대비 99% 수준이었다. 3년 평균 쌀 수량은 5.6 MT/ha 로 대비품종과 비슷하였다.

        ‘수안’은 국립식량과학원 벼맥류부에서 2010년에 육성한 고품질 직파적응 내도복 복합내병성 품종이다. ‘수안’의 출수 기는 담수직파에서 8월 15일로 ‘주안벼’보다 1일 늦으며, 보통기 보비 이앙재배에서는 평균 출수기가 8월 10일로 ‘남평 벼’보다 6일정도 빠른 중생종이다. 간장은 담수직파에서 74 cm로 ‘주안벼’보다 4 cm 크고 이앙재배에서는 ‘남평벼’와 비 슷하며 담수직파시 m 2당 수수와 수당립수는 ‘주안벼’보다 적 고 등숙비율이 높으며, 현미천립중은 25.4 g으로 ‘주안벼’보 다 무겁다. 내냉성 검정에서 유묘적고는 ‘남평벼’와 비슷한 반응을 보였고, 출수지연일수가 ‘남평벼’에 비해 2일 정도 길 으나 임실률은 47%로 ‘남평벼’에 비해 높은 편이다. 등숙기 수발아율은 22%로 ‘남평벼’보다 높고 포장도복은 강한 편이 다. 도열병, 흰잎마름병(K1~K3) 및 줄무늬잎마름병에 저항 성이나 기타 바이러스병 및 벼멸구류 등의 해충에는 저항성 이 없다. 단원형이며 쌀 외관은 심복백이 없고 ‘남평벼’ 수준 으로 맑고 투명하다. 단백질 함량 및 아밀로스 함량은 각각 6.5% 및 19.5%이며 밥맛은 ‘남평벼’ 수준이다. 제현율, 도정 율은 ‘남평벼’보다 다소 높으나 백미완전립률은 낮은 편이었 다. 쌀 수량성은 담수직파 6개소 및 건답직파 4개소에서 각각 5.47 MT/ha, 5.56 MT/ha로 ‘주안벼’보다 9% 증수 되었으며, 보통기 보비재배에서는 5.80 MT/ha으로 ‘남평벼’ 대비 4% 증수하였다.

        ‘설레미’는 국립식량과학원 상주출장소에서 2011년도에 육성한 조생 고품질 고식미 도정특성 우수 품종이다. ‘설레미’는 남부중산간지, 북부평야지 및 중산간지, 남부고냉지 및 동북부해안지 보통기 보비재배에서 평균 출수기가 8월 1일로‘오대벼’보다 3일 늦은 조생종이다. 간장은 73 cm로 오대벼보다 작으며, 수당립수는 많고 등숙비율이 높은 중립종에 속한다. 위조현상은 나타나지 않았으며 성숙기 하엽노화가 늦고수발아는 ‘오대벼’보다 안되는 내수발아성이다. 내냉성은 보통이다. ‘설레미’는 도열병에 저항성 반응을 보였다. 입형은현미장폭비가 1.90으로 단원형이며 심복백이 없고 맑고 투명하다. ‘오대벼’에 비해 아밀로스함량은 낮고 단백질함량은 약간 높으며 밥맛은 매우 양호하다. 도정율, 백미완전미율이 각가 77.5%, 97.7%로 ‘오대벼’에 비해 높다. 쌀수량은 보통기표준재배에서 5.60 MT/ha로 ‘오대벼’보다 7% 많은 편이다.

        ‘Jungmo2503’ (Hordeum vulgare L.), a new ruminant-palatability forage barley cultivar, was developed by the breeding team at the Department of Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, National Institute of Crop Science, RDA in 2011. It was derived from the cross between ‘Dongsanpi81’ and ‘Kangbori’. Among the cross made in 1999, a promising line, SB992028-B-B-B-B-B-2, showed good characteristics in potential forage yield in the yield Trial tested at Iksan in 2007 to 2008 designated as Iksan 449. The line in the Regional Yield Trials (RYT) tested in eight locations around Korea for three years from 2009 to 2011, and was released as the name of ‘Jungmo2503’. It has the growth habit of group Ⅰ, erect plant type, green leaf and hood spike. Its average heading and maturing dates were on May 2, and May 29, respectively, with are similar to check cultivar ‘Yuyeon’. The cultivar had 102cm of culm length, 691 spikes per m2 and it showed better rate of leaf, winter hardiness, and resistance to BaYMV than those of the check cultivar. The average forage yield of ‘Jungmo2503’ was about 10.9 ton ha-1 in dry matter in paddy field. ‘Jungmo2503’ also showed 9.4% of crude protein content, 27.3% of ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber), 49.0% of NDF (Neutral Detergent Fiber), and 67.3% of TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients), including higher grade of silage quality for whole crop barley.

        ‘Subo’ is a new japonica rice variety developed by a cross breeding between HR21124-B-59 and HR19567-B-70-3 having a good Phenotype with a multi-resistance and high yield elite line. The new variety developed for direct seeding by the rice breeding team in Rice Breeding and Cultivation Research Division, Department of Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, NICS, RDA in 2012. The heading date of this variety is August 13 and earlier than that of check variety, Nampyeongbyeo, by two days. ‘Subo’ has 72cm of culm length and 104 spikelets per panicle in direct seeding cultivation. This variety showed resistance to bacterial leaf blight and rice stripe virus and have germinating ability in sumerged soil conditions. The milled rice of this variety exhibits translucent and very clear non-glutinous endosperm. ‘Subo’ has much better palatability of cooked rice than that of Nampyeongbyeo. The whole grain rate of milled rice are 86.9% and milled rice recovery of are 74.6%. The yield of ‘Subo’ in direct seeding cultivation is 5.55MT/ha in milled rice. ‘Subo’ could be adaptable to the southern part plain area of Pyeongtaek and southwestern in Korea.

        ‘Hyeonpum’ is a new japonica rice variety developed by a cross breeding between Iksan469 having a good canopy architecture and Sindongjin and Musashino 7 having a good eating-quality with a view to develop a new variety having high quality of grain and palatability by the rice breeding team of Rice Breeding and Cultivation Research Division, Department of Rice and Winter Cereal Crop, NICS, RDA in 2012. The heading date of this variety is August 18 and later than that of check variety, Nampyeongbyeo, by four days. ‘Hyeonpum’ has 74cm of culm length and 101 spikelets per panicle. This variety showed resistance to bacterial leaf blight and rice stripe virus, but susceptible to leaf blast and planthoppers. The milled rice of this variety exhibits translucent and very clear non-glutinous endosperm. ‘Hyeonpum’ has much better palatability of cooked rice than that of Nampyeongbyeo. The whole grain rate of milled rice and milled rice recovery of ‘Hyeonpum’ are slightly higher than those of Nampyeongbyeo as 91.8% and 75.2% respectively. The yield of ‘Hyeonpum’ is 5.6 MT/ha in milled rice. ‘Hyeonpum’ could be adaptable to the southern part plain area of Pyeongtaek and southwestern costal areas in Korea.

The line in the Regional Yield Trials(RYT) tested in eight locations around Korea for three years from 2009 to 2011, and was released as the name of ‘Jungmo2502’. It has the growth habit of group Ⅵ, erect plant type, green leaf and awnless spike. Its average heading and maturing dates were on May 4, and May 30, respectively, with are similar to check cultivar ‘Youngyang’. The cultivar had 98cm of culm length, 607 spikes per m2 and it showed better rate of leaf, winter hardiness, and resistance to BaYMV than those of the check cultivar. The average forage yield of ‘Jungmo2502’ was about 11.0 ton ha-1 in dry matter in paddy field. ‘Jungmo2502’ also showed 8.7% of crude protein content, 21.9% of ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber), 40.7% of NDF (Neutral Detergent Fiber), and 71.6% of TDN (Total Digestible Nutrients), including higher grade of silage quality for whole crop barley.

        Haploid system by anther culture allows the development of homozygous lines when doubled. The response of anther culture to Basta (glufosinate) resistance was investigated on transgenic plants (cv. Anjungbyeo) in order to identify inheritance of bar gene associated with Basta. Most of the regenerated transgenic plants were sterile, and only a few plants produced viable seeds (A1) in the greenhouse. The bar gene was analysis by PCR in basta resistant transgenic plant (TA0). The transgenic seeds (A1) were significantly germinated in Basta solution compared with non-transformed seeds. As a result of anther culture, in regenerated haploid plants, segregation ratio was 1:1 in five of eight cross combinations. In diploid plants, segregation ratio was 1:1 in seven of eight cross combinations. Although there was some differences in the cross combinations, most of the combinations had 1:1 segregation ratio which supports the theory. The difference may be a result of the small sample size or the difference of anther culture response caused by genotypic difference. Hence, when many cross combinations were anther-cultured the results would support the theory.

        This study was conducted to ascertain the chromosomal locations and effect of quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with the physical traits of rice (Oryza sativa L.) eating quality. One hundred sixty four recombinant inbred lines (MGRILs) of F11 were derived from the cross between Milyang 23 (Tongil type) and Gihobyeo (japonica type). They were evaluated for six physical traits of cooked rice. Transgressive segregation was observed for all examined traits. Significant QTL were detected (LOD~geq 2.0) in three traits, including single QTL for adhesiveness, gumminess, and chewiness of cooked rice, respectively. Phenotypic variation explained by each QTL ranged from 6.3% to 14.6%. However, no significant QTL was detected for hardness, cohesiveness, and elasticity of cooked rice. Pleiotropic effects of single QTL on different traits are observed.d.

        This study was conducted to investigate the chromosomal locations and effects of quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with chemical properties of rice (Oryza sativa L.). One hundred sixty four recombinant inbred lines (MGRILs) of F11 were derived from the cross between Milyang 23, Tongil type, and Gihobyeo, japonica type. They were evaluated for 7 traits of chemical property in rice. Transgressive segregation was observed for all traits examined. Eight significant QTLs were detected (LOD~geq 2.0) for five traits, including two QTLs for amylose content, two QTLs for potassium content, one QTL for ratio of magnesium to potassium, one QTL for fat content and two QTLs for ash content. Phenotypic variation explained by each QTL ranged from 7.2% to 14.4%. However, no significant QTL was detected for magnesium and protein contents. In amylose content and ash content M alleles originated from Milyang 23 were responsible for increasing these traits and J alleles originated from Gihobyeo also responsible for increasing these traits. Pleiotropic effects of single QTLs on different traits are observed.
