        This study proposes a construction plan for the Korea Navy's next-generation TSCE(Total Ship Computing Environment) based destroyers to address rapidly evolving maritime threats and decreasing military manpower. It focuses on system integrated ship construction based on TSCE for quick response time with fewer operators, improving the efficiency of systems and Equipments installed in the ship. The methodology includes analyzing TSCE-based system integration theories and levels. also analyze system integration in U.S. Navy’s Zumwalt destroyers and Littoral Combat Ships, conducting expert surveys to build consensus on system integration methods, proposing operational efficiency improvements through TSCE-based system integration. Additionally, we propose an architecture of TSCE with real time OA(Open Architecture) from both functional and physical perspectives, verified through Python simulations. The study suggests optimal crew sizes for next-generation destroyers through comparative analysis of TSCE based integration types. It emphasizes the importance of system integration in naval ship construction, presenting specific measures to enhance operational efficiency and optimize crew operations. The findings are expected to contribute significantly to enhance the future naval capabilities of the Korea Navy.

        Zooplankton biomass is essential for understanding the quantitative structure of lake food webs and for the functional assessment of biotic interactions. In this study, we aimed to propose a biomass (dry weight) estimation method using the body length of cyclopoid copepods. These copepods play an important role as omnivores in lake zooplankton communities and contribute significantly to biomass. We validated several previously proposed estimation equations against direct measurements and compared the suitability of prosomal length versus total length of copepods to suggest a more appropriate estimation equation. After comparing the regression analysis results of various candidate equations with the actual values measured on a microbalance-using the coefficient of variation, mean absolute error, and coefficient of determination-it was determined that the Total Length-DW exponential regression equation [W=0.7775×e2.0183L; W (μg), L (mm)] could be used to calculate biomass with higher accuracy. However, considering practical issues such as the morphological similarity between species and genera of copepods and the limitations of classifying copepodid stages, we derived a general regression equation for the pooled copepod community rather than a species-specific regression equation.

        Benthic attached diatoms (BADs), a major primary producer in lotic stream and river ecosystems are micro-sized organisms and require a highly magnified microscopic technique in the observation work. Thus, it is often not easy to ensure accuracy and precision in both qualitative and quantitative analyses. This study proposed a new technique applicable to improve quality control of aquatic ecosystem monitoring and assessment using BADs. In order to meet the purpose of quality control, we developed a permanent mounting slide technique which can be used for both qualitative and quantitative analyses simultaneously. We designed specimens with the combination of grid on both cover and slide glasses and compared their efficiency. As a result of observation and counting of BADs, the slide glass designed with the color-lined grid showed the highest efficiency compared to other test conditions. We expect that the method developed in this study could be effectively used to analyze BADs and contributed to improve the quality control in aquatic ecosystem health monitoring and assessment.

        Recently, Korean government has introduced Multi Metric Indices (MMI) using various biocommunity information for aquatic ecosystem monitoring and ecosystem health assessment at the national level. MMI is a key tool in national ecosystem health assessment programs. The MMI consists of indices that respond to different target environmental factors, including environmental disturbance (e.g. nutrients, hydrological and hydraulic situation of site etc.). We used zooplankton community information collected from Korean lakes to estimate the availability of candidate zooplankton MMI indices that can be used to assess lake ecosystem health. First, we modified the candidate indices proposed by the U.S. EPA to suit Korean conditions. The modified indices were subjected to individual index suitability analysis, correlation analysis with environmental variables, and redundancy analysis among indices, and 19 indices were finally selected. Taxonomic diversity was suggested to be an important indicator for all three taxonomic groups (cladoceran, copepod, rotifer), on the other hand, the indices using biomass for large cladocerans and copepods, while the indices using abundance were suggested for small cladocerans and rotifers.

        Freshwater and brackish blue-green algae were collected at 43 freshwater and brackish sites (including lakes, ponds, swamps, streams, and rivers and estuaries) throughout South Korea from March 2017 to October 2018, and were identified using light microscopy. A total 223 taxa in freshwater and 230 taxa in brackish waters in 2017 and 274 taxa in fresh and brackish waters in 2018 were identified and among them, 20 taxa were unreported taxa of blue-green algae in Korea; The new recorded taxa were Aphanocapsa marina, Calothrix fusca f. durabilis, Calothrix littoralis, Calothrix parva, Chamaesiphon minimus, Chroococcidiopsis cubana, Chroococcidiopsis fissurarum, Coelosphaerium aerugineum, Dolichospermum mendotae, Eucapsis alpine, Gomphosphaeria cordiformis, Gomphosphaeria natans, Merismopedia danubiana, Lynbya aestuarii var. gaditana, Tolypothrix tenuis, Pseudocapsa maritima, Pseudocapsa sphaerica, Pseudophormidium tenue, Trichodesmus sp. and Woronichinia elorantae.

        Through sample-size-based rarefaction analyses, we tried to suggest the appropriate degree of sample concentration and sub-sample extraction, as a way to estimate more accurate zooplankton species diversity when assessing biodiversity. When we collected zooplankton from three reservoirs with different environmental characteristics, the estimated species richness (S) and Shannon’s Hʹ values showed different changing patterns according to the amount of sub-sample extracted from the whole sample by reservoir. However, consequently, their zooplankton diversity indices were estimated the highest values when analyzed by extracting the largest amount of sub-sample. As a result of rarefaction analysis about sample coverage, in the case of deep eutrophic reservoir (Juam) with high zooplankton species and individual numbers, it was analyzed that 99.8% of the whole samples were represented by only 1 mL of sub-sample based on 100 mL of concentrated samples. On the other hand, in Soyang reservoir, which showed very small species and individual numbers, a relatively low representation at 97% when 10 mL of sub-sample was extracted from the same amount of concentrated sample. As such, the representation of sub-sample for the whole zooplankton sample varies depending on the individual density in the sample collected from the field. If the degree of concentration of samples and the amount of subsample extraction are adjusted according to the collected individual density, it is believed that errors that occur when comparing the number of species and diversity indices among different water bodies can be minimized.

        Estuary is important in terms of biodiversity because it has the characteristics of transition waters, created by the mixing of fresh- and seawater. The estuarine water circulation provides a variety of habitats with different environments by inducing gradients in the chemical and physical environment, such as water quality and river bed structure, which are ultimately the main factors influencing biological community composition. If the water circulation is interrupted, the loss of brackish areas and the interception of migration of biological communities will lead to changes in the spatial distribution of biodiversity. In this study, among the sites covered by the Estuary Aquatic Ecosystem Health Assessment, we selected study sites where changes in biodiversity can be assessed by spatial gradient from the upper reaches of the river to the lower estuarine area. The α-, γ- and β-diversity of diatom, benthic macroinvertebrates, and fish communities were calculated, and they were divided into open and closed estuary data and compared to determine the trends in biodiversity variation due to estuarine circulation. As results, all communities showed higher γ-diversity at open estuary sites. The benthic macroinvertebrate community showed a clear difference between open and closed estuaries in β-diversity, consequently the estuarine transects were considered as a factor that decreases spatial heterogeneity of their diversity among sites. The biodiversity trends analyzed in this study will be used to identify estuaries with low γ- and β-diversity by community, providing a useful resource for further mornitoring and management to maintain estuarine health.

        동물플랑크톤이 식물플랑크톤을 선택적으로 섭식하는 특성에 대한 이해는 수생태계 먹이사슬 내의 물질 이동에 중요하다. 하지만 해부를 통한 위내용물 추출 방법은 소형 요각류를 대상으로 적용하기에는 적절하지 않고, 유전자가 유실되거나 위내용물이 아닌 개체 외부의 유전자로 인해 오염될 가능성이 존재한다. 본 연구에서 호내 식물 플랑크톤 조성 및 기타 환경이 상이한 두 지점을 선정하여 모든 지점에서 지속적으로 출현하는 기수성 요각류인 Sinocalanus tenellus를 대상으로 위내용물의 유전자 분석을 수행하였다. 요각류 개체 외부의 DNA를 제거하는 데 2.5%로 희석한 시판용 표백제(차아염소산나트륨 5.4%) 에 2분간 처리하여 증류수로 2회 세척한 뒤 유전자를 추출하였다. 추출된 유전자는 23S rRNA을 증폭하여 서열분석을 실시하였다. Capillary sequencing 분석 결과, 원수와 처리수 및 요각류 위내용물에서 다양한 분류군 (규조강, 녹조 강, 남조강, 와편모조강, 은편모조강, 황갈조강)에 속하는 식물플랑크톤이 검출되었으며, 새만금호 내 시공간 차이에 따라 상이한 경향을 보였다. 현미경을 이용하여 동정한 식물플랑크톤 군집 조성의 경우 규조강이 우점한 반면, 동일한 원수의 유전자 분석 (capillary sequencing) 결과에서는 주로 녹조강, 남조강 및 와편모조강이 우점하여 다소 상반된 경향을 나타냈다. 본 연구에서 적용한 위내용물 분석에 특화된 외부 유전자 제거 전처리 방법은 농도와 처리시간 조절 등의 응용방법에 따라 다양한 동물플랑크톤 분류군에 적용이 가능할 것으로 사료된다.

        호소 생태계에 대한 생물측정망 조사 및 평가지침은 동물플랑크톤 조사의 편의성을 고려하여 출현 종 수와 개체 군밀도, 군집 지수 등을 상대적으로 비교하기 위해 수심 5 m 이하의 얕은 호소-수변부에서 사선끌기, 수심 20 m 이상 호소-전수심 수직끌기, 그 이상의 깊은 호소-20 m까지의 수심을 대상으로 한 수직끌기를 제시하고 있다. 본 연구에 서는 지침에서 제시하는 방법 중 사선끌기법과 20 m 수직 끌기법을 각각 전수심을 대상으로 한 조사 방법과 비교하여 동물플랑크톤 군집 정보의 차이 및 특성에 대해 분석 하였다. 군집 지수의 경우 수심이 얕은 호수에서의 사선끌 기법/수직끌기법 비교에서는 차이를 보이지 않은 반면, 수 심이 깊은 호소에서는 끌기 수심을 20 m로 제한할 경우보다 전수심 수직끌기를 적용했을 때 다양도 및 풍부도 지수 가 상승하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 사선끌기 및 20 m 수직끌기를 통해 채집한 동물플랑크톤 시료로부터 표면~저층 상층부까지의 전수심을 채집 대상으로 설정한 경우보 다 약 3배 정도 높은 개체군 밀도가 계산되어, 동물플랑크톤 총 개체 밀도가 크게 과대 평가되는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 차이는 동물플랑크톤 수직 분포 특성상 발생하는 수층별 동물플랑크톤 개체 밀도 차이 및 여과된 원수량의 차이에서 비롯된 결과로 판단되며, 이에 따라 호소를 대변 하여 수체 간 또는 수체 내 변동을 보다 정확히 파악하고 호 내 2차 생산과 관련한 기능적 정량 지표로서 동물플랑크톤 군집 정보의 활용을 고려할 경우, 수심에 따른 개체 군밀도 분포와 전체 개체수 환산 시 수층별 기여율을 고려한 전수심 수직끌기 방법의 적용이 보다 적절할 것으로 분석되었다.

        수생태계 생물학적 온전성을 평가하기 위하여 국내 하천 및 하구 923개 지점의 자료를 근거로 한국형 다중형 돌말지수 (KMDI)를 개발하고, 이를 금강수계 233개 지점을 대상으로 온전성평가를 실시하여 단일형 돌말지수들과 비교 검토하였다. KMDI의 개발은 1) 먼저 선행문헌들을 참고로 300개 이상의 메트릭을 추출하고, 2) 이 중 설명력이 높은 46개 후보 메트릭을 선택하며, 3) 각 메트릭 값들의 변이성, 중복성, 변별력, 환경에 대한 민감성 등을 검증하고, 최종적으로 5가지의 메트릭을 선정하였다. KMDI는 매트릭의 단순합으로 표현하고, 환경요인들에 대한 신뢰성 검토 결과, 토지이용, BOD, TN, 전기전도도 등에 대해 높은 민감성 및 설명력을 보였으나 단일형 돌말지수들 보다는 동일 지점의 생물학적 온전성은 다소 높게 평가되는 특성을 보였다. 추후 국내는 물론 지역에 상관없이 적용가능한 설명력 높은 매트릭의 발굴 및 정확한 돌말류 분석 연구가 뒷따라야 될 것으로 판단되었다.

        River water quality and organisms have a very close relationship with the human living environment and health, so it is very important to ensure and maintain the ecological integrity of the aquatic ecosystem. In that sense, benthic diatoms have relatively little mobility, can explain the effects of long-term exposed pollution sources, and are very suitable indicator organisms for river ecosystem evaluation. Diatom ecologists have been developed various diatom indices to assess water quality and stream ecosystem over the world. However, they so far have insufficient identification of taxa, are strongly regional, and are difficult to apply as they are domestically. Unfortunately, there has not been developed an independent diatom index suitable for the Korean stream. Therefore, management of water quality and aquatic ecosystem suitable for domestic rivers can be made, and development or improvement of comprehensive multivariate diatom index for the integrated assessment of water quality and aquatic ecosystem is urgently needed.

        With land-use (cover) and water quality, the distributional characteristics of epilithic diatom communities were studied with 193 samples from estuaries of Korean peninsula between 2015 and 2016. Of total 394 taxa classified, Nitzschia perminuta (19.6%) and N. inconspicua (14.0%) were the 1st and 2nd dominant species. Using a cluster analysis, the epilithic diatom communities of Korean estuaries were divided into four groups (G1-G4). Ecological characteristics of each group were followed: G1 was located in estuaries of the East Sea, and characterized by high forest land-use and high DO and low nutrients; G2 was the eastern part of the South Sea, and characterized by low turbidity and nutrients; G3 was the western part of the South Sea, and characterized by high agriculture, low electric conductivity and low salinity; G4 was the Yellow Sea, and characterized by high nutrients. The environmental factors having significant correlation with diatom distributions were as follows: TN to G1, turbidity to G2, agriculture to G3, and TP to G4. Moreover, the important factors affecting the occurrence of indicator species were forest land-use for Fragilaria construens var. venter in G1, turbidity for Rhoicosphenia abbreviata in G2, urban land- use and total phosphorus (TP) for Bacillaria paradoxa and Hantzschia amphioxys of G3, and TP and turbidity for N. ovalis and Stephanodiscus invistatus of G4. These results collectively indicate that the distribution of epilithic diatom communities in Korean peninsula was largely effected by water quality and land cover/use.

        In this study, we evaluated the temporal changes of water quality in the 90 reservoirs in Korea and the relationships between water quality and their environmental factors in the reservoirs for effective management of reservoirs. The majority of study reservoirs were categorized as the eutrophic state based on Carlson’s trophic index. Among 90 reservoirs, more than 55.0% were nutrient-rich based on TSITP in each month, where more than 50.0% were nutrient-rich based on TSIChl-a from June to November. Seasonal Mann- Kendall test was used to analyze temporal variation of water quality in the selected 60 reservoirs using monthly data from 2004 to 2008. The results showed that 27 (45.0%) reservoirs showed the improvement of water quality based on TP and Chl-a concentrations, while 14 (23.3%) and 11 (18.3%) reservoirs displayed the degradation of water quality based on TP and Chl-a concentrations, respectively. Meanwhile, a self-organizing map classified the study reservoirs into five groups based on differences of hydrogeomorphology (altitude, catchment area, bank height, lake age, etc.). Physicochemical factors and land use/cover types showed clear differences among groups. Finally, hydrogeomorphology of reservoirs were related to water quality, indicating that the hydrogeomorphological characters strongly affect water quality of reservoirs.

        한반도 서남부 하천을 대상으로 2013년 5월(몬순의 영향이 없었던 시기)에 환경요인 및 부착돌말 군집을 각각 조사하였다. 조사는 상류에 1개 이상의 댐이나 인공 보가 형성된 조절하천(19개 지점)과 설치되어 있지 않은 비조절하천(19개 지점)으로 나누어 수질 및 부착돌 말 군집조사를 실시하였다. 조사결과, 부착돌말 출현특 성에 따라 한반도 서남부 하천은 비조절하천(G1), 혼합 형하천(G2), 조절하천(G3) 등 3개 유형으로 구분되었다. G1은 수질이 양호하고 다양한 부착돌말류가 출현한 반면, G3은 비록 수질은 불량하였으나 부착돌말 현존량 이 크게 증가하거나 감소하지 않았다. 또한 G2의 경우 조절하천에 비해 수질은 양호하였지만 부착돌말의 종수는 가장 낮게 나타났다. 본 조사에서 출현한 부착돌말 우 점종은 생태범위가 비교적 넓은 담수와 기수 보편종들로 서 G1에서 Nitzschia palea (17%), Navicula seminuloides (11%), G2에서 Nitzschia inconspicua (19%), Navicula perminuta (9%), G3에서 Nitzschia inconspicua (15%), Nitzschia palea (14%)으로 수질환경에 큰 영향을 보이지 않았으나 종수의 감소를 가져왔다. 그러나 G2와 G3 과 같은 조절하천에서 비록 부착돌말 현존량은 높지 않았으나 부영양 상태(높은 영양염 및 엽록소량 등)를 나타내 하구역의 정확한 수환경 상태파악을 위하여 국내 연안에서 종종 조류발생을 일으킬 수 있는 부유성 돌말 류에 대한 조사도 반드시 병행되어야 할 것으로 판단되었다.

        한반도 동해안에 분포하는 대표적인 석호중의 하나인 화진포호에서 2010년 봄철(4~6월)에 돌말 Skeletonema costatum가 대발생하였다. 본 연구는 대발생기와 소멸기 동안 저수지의 식물플랑크톤 군집의 특성을 파악하고 수 질을 근거로 하는 호수의 영양지수를 산출하여 수질을 평가하였다. 분석결과 국내에서 가장 높은 세포밀도(¤105 cells mL-1)를 보였으며, 수온은 20􀆆C 전후였으나 더 높았 던 여름철(7월 이후)에는 소멸하였다. 저수지의 수질은 높은 염분도, BOD, COD, 인산염, 낮은 N/P비, 투명도 등 으로 부영양~과영양 상태로 나타났다. 식물플랑크톤 군 집은 돌말류가 높은 세포밀도를 보인 조류발생기 동안에 는 높은 우점도와 낮은 다양도를 보였으며, 소멸기에는 다시 회복되는 특성을 나타냈다. 결국 2010년 화진포호 의 Skeletonema costatum 대발생은 봄철 가뭄이 장기간 진행되고 하천수의 유입이 감소함으로써 비롯된 것으로 판단되며 매년 반복될 가능성을 시사해 주었다.
