Two species of Miridae, Pachylygus nigrescens (Kerzhner 1977) and Deraeocoris yasunagai Nakatani 1995, are reported for the first time from Korea. The brief information on them is presented with the photos of specimens.

최근 감쇠장치 등을 가진 초고층 건축물의 지진해석에 시간이력해석법이 자주 사용되고 있다. 지진기록은 구조물의 기본 진동주기를 T라 할 때 설계기준에서 요구하는 바와 같이 0.2T에서 1.5T 사이의 스펙트럼 값을 설계응답스펙트럼에 부합하게 조정되어 사용되고 있다. 설계기준에서 제시한 방법으로 조정할 경우 주기가 길어질수록 두 해석법 사이의 응답차이는 커지는 현상이 발생한다. 즉 설계기준에 의하여 조정된 지진기록을 사용하여 시간이력해석을 수행하면 밑면전단력 등은 비슷하지만 변위, 층간변위, 부재력 등은 적게 평가되는 현상이 발생하였다. 이들 결과에 밑면전단력 조정계수를 적용하면 응답이 더욱 작아지는 것을 확인하였다. 이에 본 연구에서는 인공지진을 만드는 데 어려움이 있는 엔지니어들을 위하여 기존 설계기준에 부합하는 지진기록 조정방법을 제시하였다.

Since Miyamoto & Lee (1966) first recorded three species of Miridae, many species including new species are added to the fauna of Korea by several Korean and foreign taxonomists (Josifov, 1992; Josifov & Kerzhner, 1972; Lee & Kwon, 1991; Lee et al., 1993; Lee et al., 1994). Kwon et al. (2001) collectively arranged the Korean fauna of Miridae into 7 subfamilies, 84 genera, and 209 species, but many species have been believed to remain unrecorded. During recent the recent study of Miridae, we found three unrecorded species, Apolygus roseofemoralis (Yasunaga 1992), Pachylygus nigrescens (Kerzhner 1977), Deraeocoris yasunagai Nakatani 1995. The brief information on them are presented with the photos of specimens. All specimens are deposited in NIAST.

In this study, solar eclipse records were investigated during the Three Kingdoms era of ancient Korea using astronomical calculations and numerical simulations. Under the condition that the solar eclipses were actually observed at the well known capitals of the Three Kingdoms, I investigated the probabilities that the optimal observation areas of the Early Silla, Goguryeo, and Baekje records would appear around Chinese continent. I found higher probabilities than those suggested by Park and La (1994), although the numerical values are still low, especially in the case of the Early Silla records. On the other hand, the probability that the optimal observation area of the Later Silla records will be present around South Korea is only 13.6%, although the area shows a good match with the known capital. I also analyzed the number distribution of the eclipse records for the Three Kingdoms (except for the latter Silla's) according to the observers' locations: at the optimal observation areas and at the known capitals. And then I compared with the number distribution of all eclipses observable from those locations. From the χ2-test, I found that the Goguryeo and Baekje records had better representation of their population distributions at the latter regions (χ2=27.93 and 205.5) than at the former ones (χ2=34.19 and 211.5). Therefore, it is difficult to conclude that the observers' locations during the Three Kingdoms period were either near China, as suggested by Park and La, or in the Korean peninsula, solely based on these results. It is thus recommended that more studies are required to confirm the real observers' locations during the Three Kingdoms era.

South Korean species of the bethylid wasps, genus Holepyris are reviewed. Ten species are recognized and eight of them are described as new to science: H. crinitus sp. nov., H. dimidium sp. nov., H. discedo sp. nov., H. mucro sp. nov., H. multo sp. nov., H. profundus sp. nov., H. secedo sp. nov., H. tantillus sp. nov.; Holepyris benten Terayama 2006 and H. susanowo Terayama 1999 are recorded for the first time from South Korea. Diagnostic characteristics and illustrations of each species are provided.

본 연구는 1999년부터 2001년까지 경남에 있는 K 종돈장의 Yorkshire(Y), Landrace(L), Duroc(D), L×Y and Y×L 5품종 종빈돈 3,893복의 분만성적인 복당 총산자수, 복당 포유개시두수, 복당 사산두수, 복당 미이라두수, 복당 포유개시체중 및 1회 종부 후 분만율에 영향하는 교배조합, 분만년도, 분만계절 및 분만 산차의 효과를 추정하였다. 교배조합의 효과는 각 형질에 대하여 교배조합별로 순종은 복당 총산자수, 복당 포유개시두수와 복당 미이라두수에서 다소 유의적(p<0.05)인 차이를 보였으며, 교잡종에 있어서는 유의적인 차이가 없었다(p<0.05). 분만년도의 효과는 여러 연구자의 보고와 상이한 결과를 보였는데, 복당 총산자수는 1999년 및 2001년이 2000년도에 비해 유의하게(p<0.05) 높았다. 분만 계절의 효과는 복당 총산자수를 제외한 각 형질에 대하여 유의하게(p<0.05) 영향하는 것으로 나타났다. 복당 총산자수는 4～7산차에서 유의하게(p<0.05) 높게 나타났으며, 7산차 성적이 가장 우수하고, 1산차 성적이 가장 저조했다. 이는 조사대상 집단에 대한 점진적인 관리 환경 개선과 모돈 자체에 대한 체계적인 사양관리의 개선 때문이라고 사료된다.

최근까지도 많은 시간이력 지진해석이 연약지반의 증폭영향을 고려하지 않고 연약지반 위 지표면에서 기록된 지진거동으로 수행되었다. 그러나 합리적인 구조물의 지진해석을 위해서는 지반조건을 고려하고 암반지진기록을 이용하는 것이 중요하다. 이 연구에서는 연구를 위해 태평양지진연구센터(PEER)에서 제공하는 공개된 1557개의 지진기록 중에서 26개 암반지진기록을 선정하고 암반지진 기록의 특성을 분석하였다. 연구결과에 의하면, 지반조건을 고려하지 않고 지진규모로부터 지진가속도를 추정하는 것은 합리적이지 못하며, PEER 데이터베이스 암반지진기록으로는 지진가속도, 지진규모, 진앙거리 사이의 일반적인 상관관계를 추정하는 것도 어려운 것으로 평가되었다. 그러나 이 연구에서 선정한 26개 암반지진기록은 구조물-지반체계의 시간이력 지진해석을 위해 암반지진기록으로 사용할 수는 있지만, 이 지진기록을 사용할 때에도 지진가속도, 지진규모, 진앙거리 및 지반조건이 유사한 지진기록을 사용하는 것이 필요하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

We have analyzed the comet records in the Korean history books: Samguksagi, Goryeosa, and Joseonwangjosillok. For a comparison, the Chinese and Japanese comet records collected by Kronk (1999) have also been analyzed. Power spectrum of the time series of the comet records is used to find periodic comets. Statistically significant periodicities in the power spectrum are detected at the periods of 38-40 years, about 76 years, and 300-400 years for all Korean, Chinese, and Japanese comet records. We have also calculated the past orbits of some comets that have been recently observed, to check whether or not they were recorded in the history books. We use a multistep method to numerically integrate the comet's orbital motion backward in time to 51 B.C. The gravitational force due to the Sun and the nine planets, non-gravitational force, and the relativistic effects have been considered. Comparison of comet's perihelion passage time and the position on the sky with the historical records shows that the comet Halley were recorded at every passage in both Goryeo and Joseon periods. The orbital motion of the comet Pons-Brooks has also been compared with the Korean records. For the comet Tempel-Tuttle, Swift-Tuttle, and Ikeya-Zhang, we have compared our calculation of the orbital motions with those of the previous studies.

2005년 3월 20일 발생한 Fukuoka 지진 시 국내 및 일본에서 관측된 자료를 이용하여 지반운동 감쇄특성을 분석하였다. 또한 최근 국내 및 일본에서 제시된 지반운동 거리감쇄식을 이용한 예측값과의 비교를 통하여 국내 강지진동 예측 시 일본에서 개발된 감쇄식의 적용가능성을 평가하였다. 그 결과 동일 거리에 위치한 국내 및 일본 관측소에서 측정한 기록이 비교적 유사하게 나타났으며 국내 및 일본에서 제시된 지반운동 거리감쇄식의 예측값이 매우 유사하게 나타나 국내에서의 강지진동 예측 시 일본에서 제시된 지반운동 감쇄식을 200km 이상의 비교적 원거리에 대한 국내 감쇄식의 평가 등에 유용하게 활용할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

Twenty-six species of the subfamily Herminiinae were recognized from the lepidopteran surveys in Mt. Changbai (China) during 1999-2004. Among them, six species are reported for the first time from China: Paracolax fascialis (Leech), P. fentoni (Butler), Polypogon gryphalis Herrich-Schäffer, Sinarella japonica (Butler), S. punctalis (Herz), and S. cristulalis (Staudinger), and seven species are new to Mt. Changbai: Hadennia incongruens (Butler), Paracolax tristalis (Fabricius), Paracolax trilinealis (Bremer), Idia quadra (Graeser), Hydrillodes morosa (Butler), Herminia grisealis [Denis & Schiffermüller], and Sinarella nigrisigna (Leech). For the six newly reported species from China, taxonomical notes, color images of adults, and figures of the male or the female genitalia are provided.

Because of the close ties between Chosun and China, almost Chosun kings set great store by Chinese language teaching and the cultivation of talents in the language. Some of the kings themselves were fluent speakers of Chinese, and tried to make their sons acquire the same ability. A few even took part in the official assessment of their ministers’ abilities in the language. Chinese learning institutes were established; and Chinese learning manuals, complied in large quantity. Yet despite their efforts, the results were sadly disappointing, at least to most of the kings, who lamented constantly of the low language standards. This paper is an exploration of the causes of the failure of the imperial efforts. Based largely on the Chosun Imperial Records, it examines the Chinese language teaching under the imperial auspices (with special focus on speech training), the measures upholding the prestige of Chinese learning, and the ultimate failure. It is hoped that by learning from the past, we can find directions to improve the Chinese teaching of today.

2000-2004년에 걸쳐 수행된 장백산의 나방류 조사결과로 Plusiinae 아과 34종이 분류, 동정되었다. 그들 중 Abrostola ussurienis Dufay, Polychrysia aurata (Staudinger), P. splendida (Butler), Lamprotes mikadina (Butler), Autographa amurica (Staudinger), A. v-minus (Oberthur) 등 6종이 중국미기록 종으로 밝혀졌다. 과거에 보고되었던 Antoculeora ornatissima (Walker), Autographa nigrisigna (Walker), 그리고 Syngrapha hochenwarthi (Hochenwarth)등 3종은 본 조사에서 발견되지 않았다. 새로이 밝혀진 중국 미기록 6종에 대해 성충의 외부특징에 대한 간략한 기술과 그들의 암수생식기를 도해하였다. 장백산에서 보고된 총 37종의 목록을 제시하였다.

We have constructed a database of Korean historical astronomical records. The database contains observational data recorded from BC 2183 to AD 1910. We have also built a webpage for searching through the database based on the following criteria: (1) dynasties (2) astronomical phenomena (3) reigning kings (4) references (5) keywords. Users may select two or more dynasties to search through the database for a certain phenomena, and compare data with those of other dynasties. The queried data can be primarily sorted by one critetion, and secondarily sorted by another, each in ascending or descending order. The search results give dates both in Solar and Lunisolar calendars, years and dates in Sexagenary cycle, dynasties, reigning kings, astronomical phenomena, and references. The database and webpage were constructed under the research project of the Korean Astronomical Data Center (KADC, http://kadc.kao.re.kr) in Korea Astronomy Observatory (KAO).

A taxonomic study of two agathidiine genera and species in Korea is presented. The genera and two species [Cyrtoplastus seriepunctatus (Brisout, 1867) and Liodopria maculicollis Nakane, 1963] are reported for the first time in Korea. Descriptions and illustrations of diagnostic characters of these species, and key to the genera of the Agathidiini are provided.
