        Osteoporosis is a major worldwide public health problem that poses a great economic burden to society. Puerariae Radix, the dried root of Pueraria lobata (Wild.) Ohwi, has been widely used in Asia. This study investigated the effects of Puerariae Radix (PR) on bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) mice. C3H/HeN mice (10 weeks old) were divided into sham and OVX groups. The OVX mice were treated with vehicle, 17β-estradiol (E2), PR (oral administration, 250 mg/ kg/day) or PR (intraperitoneal administration, 50 mg/ kg/every other day) for 6 weeks. Grip strength, uterus weight, serum alkaline phosphatase (ALP), estradiol concentration and osteoclast surface levels were measured. Tibiae were analyzed using microcomputed tomography. There were no significant differences in the degree of grip strength, body weight and uterine weight between OVX group and PR-treated group. As compared with the OVX group, the serum estradiol levels were significantly increased in the PR-treated group. PR (i.p.) significantly preserved trabecular bone volume, trabecular bone number, structure model index and bone mineral density of proximal tibiae metaphysic. The administration of PR lowered serum ALP and osteoclast surface levels in OVX mice, suggesting that PR can reduce the bone turnover rate in mice. The results indicate that the supply of PR can prevent OVX-induced bone loss in mice.

        An ultra-high temperature ceramic, tantalum carbide, has received much attention for its favorable characteristics: a superior melting point and chemical compatibility with carbon and other carbides. One drawback is the high temperature erosion of carbon/carbon (C/C) composites. To address this drawback, we deposited TaC on C/C with silicon carbide as an intermediate layer. Prior to the TaC deposition, the TaCl5-C3H6-H2 system was thermodynamically analyzed with FactSage 6.2 and compared with the TaCl5-CH4-H2 system. The results confirmed that the TaCl5-C3H6-H2 system had a more realistic cost and deposition efficiency than TaCl5-CH4-H2. A dense and uniform TaC layer was successfully deposited under conditions of Ta/C = 0.5, 1200 oC and 100 torr. This study verified that the thermodynamic analysis is appropriate as a guide and prerequisite for carbide deposition.

        Recently, the Co-ZIF-8 molecular sieve has emerged as an excellent substitute for the ZIF-8 counterpart due to its potentially high C3H6/C3H8 separation performance. Here, for the first time, we investigated the effect of ZIF-67 molecular sieves in mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for C3H6/C3H8 separations by integrating them into 6FDA-DAM polymeric matrix[1]. Our current work demonstrated the superior C3H6/C3H8 separation performance of 6FDA-DAM/ZIF-67 MMMs, which was achieved mainly by the excellent size-based energetic selectivity of Co-ZIF-8 molecular sieves. Also, Co-ZIF-8 containing MMMs exhibited excellent physical aging resistance, further ensuring its potential application of the industrial C3H6/C3H8 separations.

        PEBAX[poly(ether-block-amide)]에 NaY zeolite를 첨가하여 PEBAX-NaY zeolite 복합막을 제조하고 제조한 복합 막에 대한 C3H6와 C3H8의 투과도와 선택도(C3H6/C3H8)에 대하여 조사하였다. SEM관찰에 의하면 PEBAX-NaY zeolite 복합 막 내에 NaY zeolite는 0.5∼2.5 μm의 덩어리 상태로 분산되어 있었다. TGA측정에 의하면 PEBAX에 NaY zeolite가 첨가되 면 첨가된 NaY zeolite 양만큼의 질량 변화를 알 수 있었다. 기체투과 실험에 의하면 PEBAX-NaY zeolite 복합막 내의 NaY zeolite함량이 증가할수록 C3H6와 C3H8의 투과도는 감소하였고, C3H6의 투과도는 C3H8의 투과도보다는 크게 나타났으며, 기 체선택도(C3H6/C3H8)는 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다.

        Panax ginseng, also known as Korean ginseng, has long been used as a broad tonic in Oriental medicine to augment vitality, health, and longevity, particularly in older people. This study investigated the effects of Korean red ginseng (RG) on bone loss in ovariectomized (OVX) mice. C3H/HeN mice (10-weeks-old) were divided into sham and OVX groups. OVX mice were treated with vehicle, 17β-estradiol (E2), RG (oral administration, 250 mg/kg/day), or RG (intraperitoneal administration, 50 mg/kg/every other day) for 6 weeks. Serum E2 concentration and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity were measured. Tibiae were analyzed using microcomputed tomography. Biomechanical properties and osteoclast surface level were measured. There was no significant difference in the degree of grip strength, body weight, uterine weight, mechanical property, tibiae length, or tibiae weight between the OVX and RG-treated groups. Compared with the OVX group, the serum ALP level was significantly lower in the RG-treated groups. Serum E2 levels and osteoclast surface levels did not change between the OVX and RG-treated groups. RG could not preserve trabecular bone volume, trabecular bone number, trabecular separation, trabecular thickness, structure model index, or bone mineral density of the proximal tibiae metaphysic. In conclusion, there was no definite effect of RG on OVX-induced bone loss in C3H/HeN mice.

        Magnesium hydroxide sulfate hydrate whiskers (, abbreviated 513 MHSH) were prepared using hydrothermal reaction with magnesium oxide (MgO) and magnesium sulfate () as the starting materials. The effects of the molar ratio of /MgO and amount of were studied. As a result, 513 MHSH whiskers co-existed with hexagonal plate at low concentration of . The molar ratio of /MgO was 7:1, uniform 513 MHSH whiskers were formed without impurity such as . Appropriate amount of has affected to formation of high quality MHSH. Their morphologies and structures were determined by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and thermo-gravimetric analyzer (TGA).

        Although hair disorders are not life threatening, a lot of people who suffer hair loss and/or hair thinning is increasing in accordance with changes in lifestyle and nutritional balance. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of herbal extracts on hair regrowth in C3H/HeJ mice. There were 6 experimental groups including distilled water (D.W.), 50% ethanol (a vehicle control), 3% minoxidil (a positive control), and 3 kinds of herbal extracts mixtures (C, D & E). The test compounds included followings; C : Glycyrrhizae radix, Rhei Rhizoma, Cornus officinalis and Sesami semeni, D : Viticus fructus, Pulsatilla chinensis, Gardenia fructus and Artemisiae argyi herb, E : Swertia pseudo-chinensis, Sophora flavescens Scutellaria baicalensis and Salvia miltiorrhiza. The animals were shaved with an electric clipper. The test compounds were daily treated to dorsal skin with 0.2 ml per mouse for 3 weeks. The topical application of the E test solution accelerated hair regrowth after 10 days faster than that of the positive and vehicle controls. The activities of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase significantly were increased in all the treatment groups after 3 weeks, compared with D.W. group. Especially, the E test solution notably increased ALP activity compared with positive or vehicle control group. Epidermal growth factor (EGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were increased in all the treatment groups after 3 weeks compared with D.W. group. These results suggest that the herbal extracts have hair regrowth effect by increasing enzyme activities and growth factors and it can be useful for treatment for alopecia in humans.

        The aim of this study was to examine the promoting effect of herbal extracts on hair regrowth in C3H/HeJ mice. The herbal extracts were obtained from the Damo-cosmetics Inc. There were four experimental groups including distilled water (D. W., negative control), 20% ethanol (EtOH, vehicle control), 3% minoxidil (MXD, positive control), and herbal extract (Ext). The herbal extract included the mixture of water and alcohol extract from Pleuropterus multflorus, Lonicera japonica Thunberg, Phellinus linteus, and Phaseolus radiatus. Test compounds were applied to the shaved dorsal skin of mice mouse for 3 weeks. The photograph of hair regrowth was taken at day 0, 4, 7, 10, 14, 17, and 21. The herbal extract group showed faster hair regrowth than negative control group or 20% EtOH groups after 10 and 14 days of treatments. The elongation of hair follicles in MXD and the herbal extract groups were observed. The activities of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and γ-glutamyl transpeptidase were sfanificantly (γ-GT) increased in MXD and herbal extract groups compared with negative control group (p<0.05). The expression of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) were also sfanificantly hfaher in MXD and herbal extract group than negative control group (p<0.05), althouah there were no sfanificant differences amoularhe groups of 20% EtOH, MXD, and herbal extract. These results suagest that the herbal extract used in this study may have grpromoting effect on hair regrowth by increasing activities of ALP and γ-GT and expression of EGF and VEGF.

        가압경수로형 원자력발전소의 운영과정에서 발생된 폐수지내 및 의 분포특성을 조사하였다. 표준용액을 사용한 의 회수율 측정결과, 사용한 산의 종류에 관계없이, 3 N-HCl , 주입한 농도 범위에서 의 회수율을 나타내었다. 같은 장치를 사용하여 HTO 표준용액 증류에 의한 의 회수율은 주입한 농도 범위에서 이었다. 습식산화-산용출법에 의한 폐수지의 및 동시분리시, 를 사용했을 때 다른 감마핵종에 의한 방해가 없었으며, 포집액이 섬광제와 잘 혼합되었다. 그러나 3 N-HCl을 사용했을 때 포집용액에서 및 등의 감마핵종이 검출되었다. 또한 Sample Oxidizer에 의한 포집용액에서도 및 등이 검출되었으며, 포집용액에서는 이 검출되었다. 폐수지의 총 함량중 약 70% 이상이 무기 탄소로 확인되었다. 30개 폐수지 시료중 8개 고방사능 폐수지의 및 의 평균농도는 각각 이었으며 22개 저방사능폐수지에서는 각각 이 검출되었다. 고방사능 폐수지의 평균 비는 28로 저방사능 폐수지의 0.70에 비해 높게 나타났으며, 및 의 농도는 서로 비례하는 경향을 보였다.

        연구로 2호기 해체과정에서 발생한 방사화된 수조 콘크리트 내의 깊이에 따른 및 의 방사능 분포를 고온연소로와 액체섬광계수기를 이용하여 분석하였다. 또한 향후 연구로 2호기 해체과정에서 발생된 콘크리트폐기물의 핵종재고량 평가에 활용하기 위하여 및 측정결과와 감마방출핵종과의 상관관계를 도출하였다. 및 의 검출하한값은 0.048 및 0.028 Bq/g이다. 연구로 2호기 수조 콘크리트 내의 및 의 깊이별 방사능 분포는 콘크리트 표면으로부터 멀어질수록 지수적으로 감소하는 경향을 보여주었다. 또한, 및 의 비방사능은 콘크리트에 존재하는 의 비방사능과 좋은 상관관계를 나타내었다.
