목적: 초등학교에서 보건교사가 실시하고 있는 보건교육 내용 가운데 ``눈과 시력 및 시력관리``에 관한 교육현황을 파악하여 성장 발육기에 있는 초등학생의 근시발생 및 진행을 예방할 수 있는 보건교육의 방안을 제시하고자 한다. 방법: 2010년 9월부터 2011년 1월까지 경기도 오산시, 화성시, 수원시 초등학교에 재직하고 있는 보건 교사 65명을 대상으로 우편에 의한 설문조사를 실시하였다. 그 중에서 불성실하게 응답한 12명의 설문지와 설문에 응하지 않은 5명을 제외한 48명을 검사대상으로 선정하였다. 수집된 설문은 SPSS 12.0K Window를 이용하여 전산처리하였으며, 자료분석은 빈도와 백분율로 하였다. 결과: 보건교사는 5, 6학년을 대상으로 1년에 17차시의 보건교육을 실시하고 있었고, 초등학교 교육과정에 명시되어 있는 보건교육 중 ``시력저하예방 교육``을 실시하고 있는 교사는 18.7%로 조사되었다. 보건교사가 원하는 시력저하 예방교육에 관한 정보 제공 형태로는 ``세미나/워크샵``이 58.3%로 가장 많았으며, 학생들을 대상으로 실시하는 시력저하 예방교육 중 가장 선호하는 교육 형태는 눈알사진 또는 눈알실제모형을 이용한 눈과 시력에 관한 체험수업이었고(54.2%), 보건수업 시간을 활용한 눈 건강 관리교육은 31.2%, 전문기관에서 시력검사 후 시력에 관한 교육은 14.6%, 시청각자료를 활용한 교육은 14.6%, 눈 운동 16.7%, 개인상담 2.1%로, 체험학습과 눈과 시력에 관한 교육을 선호하는 것으로 조사되었다. 결론: 초등학교 보건교사들이 눈과 시력에 관한 정보를 제공받을 수 있는 기회가 거의 없고, 눈과 시력에 관한 보건교육의 실태는 매우 미흡한 상태이므로, 보건교사를 대상으로 눈과 시력에 관한 전문적인 보건교육을 강화할 필요성이 있다.

이 연구의 목적은 학교 현장에서 문제중심학습을 적용할 수 있는 초등 교사들의 교수 실행의 능력과 교육 환경을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 참가자들은 초등학교 수준에서 문제중심학습을 강의하는 강사로 활동중이었다. 초등학교 교사 3인이 연구에 참여하였으며, 자료는 반구조화된 면담을 통해 획득되었다. 문제중심학습과 관련된 교사들의 면담은 두 가지 주요 주제로 나누어 분석되었다. (1) 문제중심학습에서 요구되는 교사들의 교수 실행의 능력 (2) 문제중심학습을 적용할 수 있는 교육 환경. 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 문제중심학습은 전통적인 교수학습 방법보다 수업 준비와 교수 과정에 어려움이 있었다. 그러나 문제중심학습에서 교사들은 자율적이고 허용적인 학습 분위기 속에서 학생들이 자기 주도적인 학습을 할 수 있도록 안내하는 도우미로서 행동한다는 점에서, 학생들은 잠재능력을 효과적으로 계발할 수 있는 동기를 부여받는다. 이를 위하여 교사는 문제중심학습 전체에서 효과적인 학습 활동이 이루어질 수 있도록 끊임없는 노력과 시간을 투자해야 한다. 둘째, 문제중심학습을 적용할 수 있는 교육적 환경을 위하여, 교사들은 동료교사, 학생, 학부모, 교육 행정가들의 문제중심학습에 대한 인식의 확산과 교사들의 커뮤니티 형성해야 한다. 문제중심 학습의 확산을 위해 가장 중요한 것은 교사들이 직접적으로 교수 활동에 문제중심학습을 적용해 보는 것이다. 문제중심 학습을 하면 학생들의 변화가 나타날 것이고, 이러한 효과를 경험한 교사는 교수학습과정에 문제중심학습을 채택하게 될 것이다.

본 연구의 목적은 현직 초등학교 교사들의 천문학적 거리 개념을 확인하고 천문학적 거리에 대한 편차 규모와 천문학적 거리를 점점 확대 시켰을 때 정확성을 알아보기 위한 것이다. 경기도 소재 초등학교 교사 69명을 대상으로 천문학적 거리 관련 질문지를 배포하여 결과를 분석한 후 3명을 임의 추출하여 그들이 작성한 질문지를 바탕으로 인터뷰를 실시하여 그들의 천문학적 거리 개념을 분석하였다. 많은 초등학교 교사들이 지구와 달, 태양 사이의 거리를 과대 평가하였고, 항성 및 은하까지의 거리는 매우 과소평가하였으며, 천문학적 거리를 이론적(계산적) 척도와 직관적(심리적) 척도를 활용하여 추정하였다. 그들은 AU, 광년과 같은 단어를 익히 들어 잘 알고 있으나 그 의미를 정확하게 이해하지 못하는 사례도 있었으며, 지구에서 해왕성까지의 거리가 항성까지 거리 보다 더 멀다고 인식하는 사례도 있었다. 천문학적 거리를 추정할 때 상당한 변이성이 존재하며, 태양계 내에서 태양계 밖에 존재하는 천체로 거리를 늘려나갈수록 초등 교사들은 그 거리를 점점 더 과소평가하였다.

본 연구는 마이산 일대의 야외지질 학습자료를 개발하고, 이 개발된 자료를 초등 교사들에게 적용하여 나타난 반응을 분석하였다. 야외지질 학습자료 개발 지역은 전북 진안군 마이산 도립공원 주변이며 규모가 큰 백악기 퇴적층이 공원 주변에 노두로 잘 나타나 있어 관찰하기가 용이하다. 이 퇴적층을 통해 다양한 종류의 퇴적암과 퇴적구조를 관찰할 수 있으며, 백악기의 호수 퇴적환경을 이해할 수 있다. 또한 기반암과 분지 경계 단층의 형성과정에서 생성된 변성암 및 변성구조와 현생 하천 주변의 제4기 하천 퇴적층도 관찰할 수 있다. 야외학습은 13명의 초등 교사들에게 4 단계의 절차로 적용되었다. 질문지와 면담을 통한 연구 결과, (a) 야외지질 학습과 학습자료가 교사들의 과학 수업을 긍정적으로 증진시키는 데 매우 유용하였다는 반응을 얻었고, (b) 학생들의 인지 발달에 도움이 되는 체험학습이 활발하게 진행될 수 있도록 다양한 학습장과 자료 개발이 필요하다는 반응도 얻었다. 그러므로 교육기관은 초등 교사들이 초등학생들의 야외지질 체험학습을 적절히 수행할 수 있도록 야외활동과 관련된 연수 프로그램을 지속적으로 제공하는 것이 바람직하다.

This study recommends using children's literature in teacher training programs with the purpose of developing integrated language skills for primary school teachers and teaching methods for their students. First, to accomplish bifold objectives, the study develops three modules: 1) intensive listening through story books, 2) using in class dialogues through role-playing and 3) developing classroom activities. For presenting the examples of the three modules, Junie B., First Grader (at last!), Freckle Juice, and Jake Drake: Teacher's Pet are used. Next, the study presents teachers' perceptions on both using literature for improving their English skills and using literature in their teaching elementary school children. To investigate the possibility of implementing the program, the researcher surveyed 53 teachers participating in the program. The survey results showed teachers' perceptions on children's literature changed in positive ways, and they recognized that children's literature could develop their own English language skills and then would be a good teaching resource for their students. Based on the results, some suggestions were provided for the teachers, educators, and program developers.

In the early reading stage, readers should be supported both orally and conceptually so that they are equipped with the basic skills and knowledge about word recognition. Thus, a lack of systematic support in the early reading developmental stage impedes the natural growth of reading ability. This article investigated how children were supported in reading from their teachers in the primary English classrooms. To accomplish this purpose, eleven reading-focused classrooms were analysed. Observations, video recordings, and interviews were conducted for data collection. Field notes and checklists were also used during the observations. Qualitative analyses revealed that children were poorly supported in learning to read: teachers used few limited teaching techniques and their uses were not effective on reading. The data from the interviews revealed that teachers were rarely trained for reading instruction, and that they possessed a limited knowledge about the English language system as well as about the reading development of young learners. Hence, the teachers' poor background knowledge and lack of skills led to less effective reading instruction. Based on these findings, it is suggested that teachers require training such as in basic knowledge about the English writing system and reading development in order to deliver effective reading instruction to early readers.
