        리튬이온전지는 친환경적이고 우수한 전지 성능덕분에 배터리 산업의 핵심으로 자리 잡았으며, 이에 따라 수요가 급증하고 있다. 그러나, 리튬이온전지의 수요증가는 리튬과 광물자원들의 공급문제를 초래하며, 수명이 다한 폐 리튬이온전지의 폐기방안이 아직 마련되지 않아 환경적 문제를 발생시킨다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 폐 리튬이온전지를 재활용하는 연구가 진행되고 있으며, 그 중에서도 폐 리튬이온전지에서 폐 양극 소재를 추출하여 재활용하는 다이렉트 리사이클링 연구가 주목받고 있다. 그러나, 폐 양극 소재는 오랜 충/방전으로 인해 구조적 붕괴(열화)가 발생한 상태로, 새로운 리튬이온전지에 적용을 위해서는 리튬이온전지 사용 전의 구조 즉, 층상구조로의 회복이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 이를 위해 폐 양극 소재(LiNi0.6C0.2Mn0.2O2)가 열역학적으로 층상구조를 형성하는 온도를 분석하기 위해 700 ºC, 800 ºC, 900 ºC 범위에서 XRD를 통해 구조분석을 진행하였다. 폐 양극 소재는 700 ºC와 900 ºC 대비 800 ºC 열처리 시 1.44로 가장 높은 I003/I104 value를 보였다. 또한 800 ºC 열처리 시 0.1 C 기준 비 용량이 171.3 mAh/g으로 가장 높은 것을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 우리는 열역학적으로 층상구조를 형성하는 온도를 800 ºC로 도출하였으며 폐 양극 소재의 구조를 성공적으로 복원하였다.

        Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are powerful energy storage devices with several advantages, including high energy density, large voltage window, high cycling stability, and eco-friendliness. However, demand for ultrafast charge/discharge performance is increasing, and many improvements are needed in the electrode which contains the carbon-based active material. Among LIB electrode components, the conductive additive plays an important role, connecting the active materials and enhancing charge transfer within the electrode. This impacts electrical and ionic conductivity, electrical resistance, and the density of the electrode. Therefore, to increase ultrafast cycling performance by enhancing the electrical conductivity and density of the electrode, we complexed Ketjen black and graphene and applied conductive agents. This electrode, with the composite conductive additives, exhibited high electrical conductivity (12.11 S/cm), excellent high-rate performance (28.6 mAh/g at current density of 3,000 mA/g), and great long-term cycling stability at high current density (88.7 % after 500 cycles at current density of 3,000 mA/g). This excellent high-rate performance with cycling stability is attributed to the increased electrical conductivity, due to the increased amount of graphene, which has high intrinsic electrical conductivity, and the high density of the electrode.

        Tin/graphite composites are prepared as anode materials for Li-ion batteries using a dry ball-milling process. The main experimental variables in this work are the ball milling time (0–8 h) and composition ratio (tin:graphite=5:95, 15:85, and 30:70 w/w) of graphite and tin powder. For comparison, a tin/graphite composite is prepared using wet ball milling. The morphology and structure of the different tin/graphite composites are investigated using X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The electrochemical properties of the samples are also examined. The optimal dry ball milling time for the uniform mixing of graphite and tin is 6 h in a graphite-30wt.%Sn sample. The electrode prepared from the composite that is dry-ballmilled for 6 h exhibits the best cycle performance (discharge capacity after 50th cycle: 308 mAh/g and capacity retention: 46%). The discharge capacity after the 50th cycle is approximately 112 mAh/g, higher than that when the electrode is composed of only graphite (196 mAh/g after 50th cycle). This result indicates that it is possible to manufacture a tin/graphite composite anode material that can effectively buffer the volume change that occurs during cycling, even using a simple dry ball-milling process.

        In this study, multilayered SnO nanoparticles are prepared using oleylamine as a surfactant at 165oC. The physical and chemical properties of the multilayered SnO nanoparticles are determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Interestingly, when the multilayered SnO nanoparticles are heated at 400oC under argon for 2 h, they become more efficient anode materials, maintaining their morphology. Heat treatment of the multilayered SnO nanoparticles results in enhanced discharge capacities of up to 584 mAh/g in 70 cycles and cycle stability. These materials exhibit better coulombic efficiencies. Therefore, we believe that the heat treatment of multilayered SnO nanoparticles is a suitable approach to enable their application as anode materials for lithium-ion batteries.

        리튬 이온 전지의 양극과 음극 사이에 물리적인 층을 만들어주는 분리막은 분리막의 품질에 따라 리튬 이온 전지의 성능을 결정함에 따라 많은 관심을 받고 있다. 일반적으로 전기화학적 안정성과 적절한 역학적 강도를 갖고 있는 폴리에 틸렌과 폴리프로필렌으로 구성된 다공성 막이 리튬 이온 전지의 분리막으로 사용된다. 하지만 폴리에틸렌과 폴리프로필렌의 낮은 열 저항성과 젖음성으로 인해 리튬 이온 전지의 잠재력을 충분히 끌어내지 못한다. 녹는점 이상의 온도에 도달하게 되면 분리막의 구조가 변형되고 리튬 이온 전지는 단락된다. 분리막의 낮은 젖음성은 낮은 이온전도도와 부합하고, 이는 전지의 저항을 상승시킨다. 이러한 폴리에틸렌과 폴리프로필렌 분리막의 단점을 극복하고자 이중 전기방사방법, 코팅 층 도포 방법, 코어 셸 구조 형성 방법, 제지법 등 여러 가지 방법들이 연구되었다. 언급된 방법들로 합성된 분리막들은 열 저항성과 젖음성이 크게 향상되었고 유연성과 인장 강도 같은 역학적 특성도 향상되었다. 본 리뷰 논문에는 각기 다른 방법으로 형성된 리튬 이온 전지의 분리막에 대해서 다루고 있다.

        High performance lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have attracted considerable attention as essential energy sources for high-technology electrical devices such as electrical vehicles, unmanned drones, uninterruptible power supply, and artificial intelligence robots because of their high energy density (150-250 Wh/kg), long lifetime (> 500 cycles), low toxicity, and low memory effects. Of the high-performance LIB components, cathode materials have a significant effect on the capacity, lifetime, energy density, power density, and operating conditions of high-performance LIBs. This is because cathode materials have limitations with respect to a lower specific capacity and cycling stability as compared to anode materials. In addition, cathode materials present difficulties when used with LIBs in electric vehicles because of their poor rate performance. Therefore, this study summarizes the structural and electrochemical properties of cathode materials for LIBs used in electric vehicles. In addition, we consider unique strategies to improve their structural and electrochemical properties.

        Layered LiNi0.83Co0.11Mn0.06O2 cathode materials single- and dual-doped by the rare-earth elements Ce and Nd are successfully fabricated by using a coprecipitation-assisted solid-phase method. For comparison purposes, nondoping pristine LiNi0.83Co0.11Mn0.06O2 cathode material is also prepared using the same method. The crystal structure, morphology, and electrochemical performances are characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS) mapping, and electrochemical techniques. The XRD data demonstrates that all prepared samples maintain a typical α-NaFeO2-layered structure with the R-3m space group, and that the doped samples with Ce and/or Nd have lower cation mixing than that of pristine samples without doping. The results of SEM and EDS show that doped elements are uniformly distributed in all samples. The electrochemical performances of all doped samples are better than those of pristine samples without doping. In addition, the Ce/Nd dualdoped cathode material shows the best cycling performance and the least capacity loss. At a 10 C-rate, the electrodes of Ce/Nd dual-doped cathode material exhibit good capacity retention of 72.7, 58.5, and 45.2% after 100, 200, and 300 cycles, respectively, compared to those of pristine samples without doping (24.4, 11.1, and 8.0%).

        Using a high pressure homonizer, we report on the electrochemical performance of Li4Ti5O12(LTO) particles manufactured as anode active material for lithium ion battery. High-pressure synthesis processing is performed under conditions in which the mole fraction of Li/Ti is 0.9, the synthesis pressure is 2,000 bar and the numbers of passings-through are 5, 7 and 10. The observed X-ray diffraction patterns show that pure LTO is manufactured when the number of passings-through is 10. It is found from scanning electron microscopy analysis that the average size of synthesized particles decreases as the number of passings-through increases. LiCoO2-based active cathode materials are used to fabricate several coin half/full cells and their battery characteristics such as lifetime, rate capability and charge transfer resistance are then estimated, revealing quite good electrochemical performance of the LTO particles as an effective anode active material for lithium secondary batteries.

        Lithium ion batteries have been extensively used in portable electronic devices due to their high energy density and long cycle life. Recently, lithium ion batteries are required to run conditions that drive up to 1.5C, 2.0C, or higher in order to produce quick charge secondary cells, but the life degradation and safety concerns and rising. In other words, as the number of repetitions of the charge and discharge increases, the binding between the active materials and the ionic conductors becomes loose, and the contact resistance between the particles increases, and due to the increased resistance of the electrode, the battery performance is degraded, and during the life cycle degradation of cathode and anode materials occurs, and it is directly linked to life and safety issues. This study aims to improve the quick charge performance by improving the lithium ion material.

        리튬이온 이차전지는 리튬이온이 이동하면서 전기화학적 충방전사이클을 완성하는 에너지변환장치를 의미한다. 리튬이온 이차전지는 높은 에너지밀도와 낮은 자가방전률, 상대적으로 긴 수명주기 등 다양한 장점을 갖는다. 최근 전기차 수 요증가는 고용량 리튬이온 이차전지 개발을 촉진하고 있으나 음극에서의 dendrite 형성으로 인한 전기적 단락 현상과 전지 폭 발 문제와 같은 심각한 안전문제를 야기한다. 또한, 리튬이온 이차전지 구동시 상승된 온도에서 폴리올레핀계열(예 : 폴리에 틸렌과 폴리프로필렌) 격리막의 열수축 문제가 발생한다. 이와 같이 낮은 열 안정성은 리튬이온 이차전지의 성능과 수명의 감소로 이어진다. 본 연구에서는 폴리올레핀계열 함침격리막 제조를 위한 중요한 소재로서 술폰화 폴리아릴렌에테르술폰 랜 덤 공중합체를 사용하였으며, 제조된 격리막을 이용하여 dendrite 형성과 관련된 금속이온 흡착 능력과 리튬이온전도성, 열적 내구성이 평가되었다.

        Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) are rapidly improving in capacity and life cycle characteristics to meet the requirements of a wide range of applications, such as portable electronics, electric vehicles, and micro- or nanoelectromechanical systems. Recently, atomic layer deposition (ALD), one of the vapor deposition methods, has been explored to expand the capability of LIBs by producing near-atomically flat and uniform coatings on the shell of nanostructured electrodes and membranes for conventional LIBs. In this paper, we introduce various ALD coatings on the anode, cathode, and separator materials to protect them and improve their electrochemical and thermomechanical stability. In addition, we discuss the effects of ALD coatings on the three-dimensional structuring and conduction layer through activation of electrochemical reactions and facilitation of fluent charge collection.

        In order to prepare anode materials for high power lithium ion secondary batteries, carbon composites were fabricated with a mixture of petroleum pitch and coke (PC) and a mixture of petroleum pitch, coke, and natural graphite (PCNG). Although natural graphite has a good reversible capacity, it has disadvantages of a sharp decrease in capacity during high rate charging and potential plateaus. This may cause difficulties in perceiving the capacity variations as a function of electrical potential. The coke anodes have advantages without potential plateaus and a high rate capability, but they have a low reversible capacity. With PC anode composites, the petroleum pitch/cokes mixture at 1:4 with heat treatment at 1000 oC (PC14-1000C) showed relatively high electrochemical properties. With PC-NG anode composites, the proper graphite contents were determined at 10~30 wt.%. The composites with a given content of natural graphite and remaining content of various petroleum pitch/cokes mixtures at 1:4~4:1 mass ratios were heated at 800~1200 oC. By increasing the content of petroleum pitch, reversible capacity increased, but a high rate capability decreased. For a given composition of carbonaceous composite, the discharge rate capability improved but the reversible capacity decreased with an increase in heat treatment temperature. The carbonaceous composites fabricated with a mixture of 30 wt.% natural graphite and 70 wt.% petroleum pitch/cokes mixture at 1:4 mass ratio and heat treated at 1000 oC showed relatively high electrochemical properties, of which the reversible capacity, initial efficiency, discharge rate capability (retention of discharge capacity in 10 C/0.2 C), and charge capacity at 5 C were 330 mAh/g, 79 %, 80 %, and 60 mAh/g, respectively.

        The microstructures and cyclic voltammograms of Al-Si/C nano-composites were investigated as the anode of lithium ion batteries. Al-Si nanoparticles were prepared by the arc-discharge method. Al-Si/C nanoparticles were obtained by coated Al-Si nanoparticles with the precursor of glucose (C6H12O6) as carbon source. It was indicated that the post carbon coating treatment can reduce Al2O3 film on Al-Si particles, and new phase Al4C3 formed in the process can activate the inactivated materials of electrode in a certain extent.

        Expanded graphites were used as anode materials of high power Li-ion secondary battery. The expanded graphite was prepared by mixing the graphite with HClO4 as a intercalation agents and KMnO4 as a oxidizing agents. The physical and electrochemical properties of prepared expanded graphites through the variation of process variables such as contents of intercalation agent and oxidizing agent, and heat treatment temperature were analyzed for determination of optimal conditions as the anode of high power Li-ion secondary battery. After examing the electrochemical properties of expanded graphites at the different preparing conditions, the optimal conditions of expanded graphite were selected as 8 wt.% of oxidizing agent, 400 g of intercalation agent for 20 g of natural graphite, and heat treatment at 1000℃. The sample showed the improved charge/discharge characteristics such as 432 mAh/g of initial reversible capacity, 88% of discharge rate capability at 10 C-rate, and 24 mAh/g of charge capacity at 10 C-rate. However, the expanded graphite had the problems of potential plateaus like natural graphite and lower initial efficiency than the natural graphite.

        다공성 Poly(propylene) 분리막의 지지 하에 전해질 용액 (EC/DEC 1 : 1 혼합물 내의 LiPF6 1 M 용액) 내에서 DEGDMA [Di(ethylene glycol) dimethacrylate]의 70℃ 열중합을 통하여 겔 고분자 전해질(GPE)막이 합성 되었다. 합성된 겔 고분자 전해질막의 이온전도도 및 전기화학적 안정성은 AC 임피던스법 및 CV (cyclic voltametry)법에 의하여 측정 평가하였다. 겔 고분자를 전해질로, 그리고 양극 및 음극으로는 각각 LiMi0.8Co0.2O2 및 graphite로 이용하여 리튬이온전지(LIB)도 제작하였다. 열중합을 통하여 리튬 이온전지에 적합한 이온전도도(10 -3 S/cm 이상) 및 전기화학적 안정성을 보이면서 자체적인 성상을 유지하는 겔 고분자 전해질막을 얻을 수 있었다. 단량체 함량 5%의 전구체로 제작한 겔 고분자 전지는 단량체 함량이 7.0% 및 10.0%인 경우에 비하여 우수한 고율 및 충-방전 효율을 보였다.

        The natural graphite particles A and heat-treated graphite particles B at 1800 ℃ after pitch-coating were used as the anode base materials for lithium ion secondary battery. In order to improve the performance of anode materials, the base anode materials were treated with various acids. With the acid treatments of 62% HNO3 and 95% H2SO4 aqueous solution, the specific surface area and electrical conductivity of base anode materials were increased, and the initial charge-discharge capacity and cycle performance were improved due to the elimination of structural defects.
