        In this study, an experimental analysis of noise reduction in road traffic by applying the Micro Grooving technique to concrete highway pavements is explored. Initiated in 1984 to address the aging and damage issues observed in South Korea's concrete highways, Micro Grooving is known for creating fine grooves on the cement pavement surface to increase friction, prevent hydroplaning, and inhibit ice formation, while reducing vehicle friction noise by 3∼5dB(A). It is determined from noise measurement results that the application of the Micro Grooving method can be expected to reduce roadside noise and enhance the safety of drivers' driving experience.

        선내 소음은 선원의 거주성과 건강을 위한 중요한 요소 중의 하나로, 선내 소음을 줄이기 위한 노력이 활발하게 진행되고 있 다. 소음 저감 방법에는 수동소음제어(PNC) 방법과 능동소음제어(ANC) 방법이 있다. 자동차, 항공기와 달리 선박에서는 ANC를 이용한 소음 저감 대책이 미미한 실정이다. 본 연구는 능동소음제어(ANC)와 같이 방음판과 고주파진동원을 이용하여 기관실에 발생한 소음을 줄이고자 하였다. 이를 위해 아크릴 상자를 이용하여 실험 모형을 만들었고, 4가지 조건별로 소음 저감 효과를 측정하였다. 실험 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 방음판은 55 dB ~ 85 dB까지 모든 범위에서 소음 저감 효과가 있었다. 고주파진동원은 낮은 소음에서 효과가 없었으나, 70.8 dB(A)과 85 dB(A)와 같은 높은 소음에서는 효과가 있었다. 둘째, 방음판과 고주파진동원을 동시에 사용하는 경우에는 최대 -2.2 dB(A) 만큼의 소음 저감 효과가 있었다. 본 실험의 결과는 아크릴판으로 제작한 실험모형에서 얻은 결과로 철판으로 된 실제 선박과 다를 수 있 다. 추후 연구에서 실제 선박에서 사용하는 철판(재질과 두께, 구조를 고려)을 이용하여 실험하고자 한다. 이 연구가 선박에 승선하는 선 원들의 거주성 향상과 건강 증진에 도움이 되기를 기대한다.

        The prospect of the highway traffic road construction has led to resistance from residents, partly based on noise and vibration issues. Particularly, as tracks often pass closely to residential dwellings, constructors are then required to take account of noise and vibration. So the prediction of noise and vibration for highway traffic is very important thing. The highway traffic noise and vibration make one specific issue. For the highway traffic road, this paper concerns the noise by the wheel/tire and the structure-borne noise by the road. Based on the results, this paper proposes the source model of highway traffic noise and the calculation model for highway traffic noise. Also prediction model is presented with traffic noise which are calculated by considering the power level of a source for one-third octave band, ground absorption and barrier deflection. A lot of empirical data is needed to predict the noise and vibration. And one of the best ways to control the wayside noise is to analyze the noise level.

        철도소음은 도시지역의 철도건설과 유지에 가장 큰 장애 요소 중 하나이므로 보다 효과적으로 철도소음을 저감하기 위한 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 방음터널은 철도소음을 저감할 수 있는 가장 효과적인 방법 중 하나이나, 하절기 높은 내부 온도 증가로 인하여 궤도좌굴 또는 전력, 신호 등 선로 설비의 안정성을 저하시킬 우려가 있다. 이러한 온도 상승 문제는 통기 형 방음판을 이용하여 해결할 수 있으나, 방음터널 적용 시의 소음저감 성능에 대한 연구는 미흡한 상황이다. 이 논문에서는 수치해석을 통하여 통기형 슬릿방음판의 효과적인 방음터널 적용 방법에 대한 연구 결과를 제시하였다. 수치해석은 음향해석 프로그램인 Pachyderm Acoustics으로 모델링한 복선 방음터널을 이용하여 수행하였다. 철도소음은 기존 연구결과를 이용하여 모사하였으며, 슬릿방음판의 적용 위치가 다른 6가지 경우에 대하여 소음저감 효과 변화를 검토하였다. 음향해석 결과 20% 정도 의 슬릿방음판 적용 시에도 철도소음을 최소 5dB 감소할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to estimate the reduction in traffic noise in a double-layered specific porous pavement at roadsides based on variations in traffic volume and driving speed. METHODS : A statistical pass-by (SPB) method was employed in this study to measure noise. Variations in the following parameters were measured: running speed, heavy traffic percentage, and traffic volume. RESULTS : Quantitative analysis revealed that the double-layered porous pavement reduced noise levels by 9.16 dB(A) at a 95% confidence level at the sides of roads. CONCLUSIONS : As a countermeasure of traffic noise, porous pavement has been recommended. This research quantitatively proved that double-layered porous pavement can reduce traffic noise by more than 9.0 dB(A) at roadsides

        The purpose of this study was to improve the noise measurement method of noise sources and the corresponding noise reduction measures during each manufacturing process closest to the workers in the large and hige power machine. To this end, the noise generated in the large and high power machine was measured and analyzed, and the frequency characteristics of noise sources and the causes of noise were identified. The noise map was used to predict the noise reduction effect. Moreover, it is expected that this will ultimately contribute to the reduction of human risks caused by the noise of the large and high power machine.

        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to estimate the reduction of traffic noise in a double-layered specific porous pavement based on the traffic speed variation. METHODS : The close-proximity method was used in noise measurement, and the running speed was measured at 10 km/h and from 50 to 80 km/h. RESULTS : From the quantitative analysis, it was found that the double-layered porous pavement reduced by 9.4 dB (A) on the average and 9.16 dB (A) at a 95% confidence level. CONCLUSIONS : The use of porous pavements have been recommended to minimize traffic noise. In this study, it is quantitatively demonstrated that the double-layered porous pavement can reduce the traffic noise by more than 9.0 dB(A).

        열차 소음은 도시 지역 내 철도 네트워크 확장에 주요 장애물이므로 보다 효과적인 소음 방지 수단을 개발하기 위한 연구가 진행되고 있다. 현재까지 방음 터널은 철도 소음에 대한 가장 효과적인 대책 중 하나이나, 중량 문제로 인하여 한정적으로 적용되어 왔다. 이 논문에서는 방음터널의 중량을 효과적으로 감소시킬 수 있는 슬롯형 방음 패널의 소음저감 성능의 예측 가능성을 평가하고, 소음저감 특성을 분석하였다. 연구의 목적을 위하여 음향 해석 프로그램인 Pachyderm Acoustics가 활용되었다. 음향해석의 적절성은 잔향실에서 얻은 실험 데이터를 사용하여 확인하였다. 실험데이터와의 비교 결과, 소음 감소 성능은 음향 분석을 통해 충분히 작은 오차 내로 예측 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 슬롯형 방음판은 설계된 차음주파수 범위에서 약 25dB∼35dB 정도의 소음을 감소시킬 수 있는 것으로 나타났다.

        The object of this paper is to estimation of noise reduction effect of road noise by operating condition due to tire noise regulation. A prepare the countermeasure of the noise reduction according to collect tire/road noise data under various influencing factors by using the tire test method. To accomplish the object : A automotive is used as a test platform to test tire/road noise by changing different types of tires and using the On-Board Sound Intensity test system. The influence of inflation pressure, road, load, speed and pattern type on tire/road noise is compared and analyzed. At the same time, the mechanism of tire/road noise is analyzed, which provides an experimental basis for tire noise reduction.

        PURPOSES: This paper presents the noise reduction effect of asphalt concrete pavement using steel slag aggregate. METHODS: Steel slag aggregates induce various mechanical effects because of their high stiffness and specific gravity. It is also known that the noise reduction effect is due to its high specific gravity and porous nature. In this study, the noise reduction in a steel slag asphalt concrete pavement section was measured and analyzed. RESULTS : On average, an asphalt concrete pavement with steel slag reduces road traffic noise by about 2 dB(A). In addition, the analysis of sound pressure levels by frequency showed lower sound pressure levels in steel slag asphalt concrete pavement than general HMA in all frequency ranges (from low to high frequencies). An analysis of the benefits with regard to noise, by assuming a road-traffic noise reduction of 2 dB(A) with asphalt concrete pavement using steel slag, shows that the noise abatement cost approach can save 1.6 million won a year over soundproof wall costs. In addition, the noise damage cost approach results in cost savings (with regard to noise) of between 19 and 60 million won per year depending on the population density. CONCLUSIONS: The use of steel slag aggregate as an asphalt concrete mixture material not only improves the mechanical performance but also has a noise reduction effect. It is expected that the steel slag asphalt concrete pavement can reduce the environmental burden by utilizing resources and provide a safer and more comfortable pavement condition to the road users.

        PURPOSES : Exposed aggregate concrete pavements have been adopted in several countries because of their advantages of pavement texture characteristics, which can produce low tire-pavement noise and higher load-carrying capacities. The magnitude of tire-pavement noise greatly depends on the wavelength of pavement texture. The wavelength of exposed aggregate concrete pavement can be controlled with maximum sizing and by controlling the amount of coarse aggregates in the concrete mixture. In this study, the maximum size and the amount of coarse aggregate in the exposed aggregate concrete pavement are investigated to produce equal levels of wavelength in the asphalt pavement. METHODS: A simple method to measure the average wavelength of pavement texture is introduced. Subsequently, the average wavelength of typical asphalt pavement is investigated. A set of mixture designs of exposed aggregate concrete with three maximum-sized coarse aggregates, and three amounts of coarse aggregate are used. The average wavelengths are measured to find the mixture design needed to produce equal levels of wavelength as typical asphalt pavement. RESULTS : With a cement content of 420 kg/m3 and fine aggregate modulus of 30%, the number of exposed aggregates was 48, and the shortest texture depth provided a wavelength of 4.2 mm. According to the number of exposed aggregates, the exposed aggregate concrete pavement could be rendered low-noise, because its wavelength was similar to that of asphalt pavement ranging from 3.9 to 4.4 mm. CONCLUSIONS : Selection of appropriate maximum sizes and the amount of coarse aggregates for exposed aggregate concrete pavement can produce a wavelength texture closely resembling that of asphalt pavement. Therefore, the noise level of exposed aggregate concrete pavement can be reduced with an appropriate maximum size and the amount of coarse aggregates are employed.

        High power trends in the diesel engines due to engine downsizing do not provide noise attenuation that can be satisfied with the performance of the existing silencer on account of high frequency increases in the exhaust noise. This study improves the attenuation performance of the exhaust silencer of the diesel engine and suggests silencer structure that performs best attenuation performance, especially at the high frequency range in the exhaust noise. It proposes dual silencer structure with an average attenuation performance of 6.4 dB and a maximum of 10.7 dB in the high frequency range (over 500 Hz), and analyzes its characteristics compared with the existing silencer. The performance analysis is performed according to 'Measurements on silencers in situation–ISO 11820:1996 Acoustics' and describes the results of comparative analysis with the existing silencer.
