This study examines the impact of price transparency—specifically the disclosure of cost breakdown—on brand attitudes and purchase intentions. The findings suggest that pricing transparency generally has a positive effect on attitudes and purchase intentions. However, pricing transparency might backfire, and thus reverse the effect, for luxury products originating from a high equity country (e.g., a fashion brand from Italy), but not for luxury and non-luxury products originating from a low equity country (e.g., a fashion brand from China). Luxury retailers in a high equity country should take extra caution before adopting price transparency
Prior studies have focused primarily on the issue of consumers’ privacy concerns in personalized advertising, but little is known about the effect of transparency awareness using data collection notifications on consumers. This study focuses on the relationship between consumers’ perceptions of the AI algorithms underlying online behavioral advertising (OBA) and the advertising effects. Our research model indicates that displaying data collection notifications regarding OBA and personalized ads increases favorable perceptions of AI systems, such as transparency. Moreover, the model suggests that personalized ads induce higher perceived surveillance than non-personalized ads.
In recent years, maintaining transparency has become a trend among brands, and a
better level of supply chain transparency has been demonstrated to positively affect
consumer environmental concern and conscious behavior. Consumers may accept
transparency efforts as a signal of the brand goodwill and perceive it as a visibly
sustainable effort that can convert brand trust. In the information transparency trend,
eco-certification plays an important role as a tool to inform consumers about
sustainability. However, facing large amounts of information, consumers spend much
time filtering information, so the accuracy of the obtained information can be
compromised. The Higg index is a sustainable verification platform that reveals the
entire activities of supply chains. However, most consumers are facing an overload of
information that could confuse their processing of any information. In this context, the
present study seeks to examine the effect of business transparency to conscious
consumer behavior and purchase intention. Second, this study deals with the
moderating effects of sustainable knowledge on the relationship between business
transparency, environmental concern, and brand trust. Third, we explore the effects of
high and low level of consume knowledge of sustainability on the relationship
between business transparency and brand trust. In terms of the methodology used in
the present study, an off-line survey of Korean consumers was conducted. SPSS 21.0
was used for data analysis aiming to test the proposed model and research hypothesis.
The mains results of this study are as follows. First, business transparency has a
positive effect on environmental concern, brand trust, and consumer willingness to
conscious behavior. Second, consumer sustainable knowledge has a moderating effect
on business transparency for environmental concern and brand trust. Taken together,
the findings of the present study provide meaningful implications for marketers by
highlighting the importance of transparency and introduction of a transparent eco-certification
for communication with consumers. To successfully influence consumer
willingness to assume conscious behavior, brands are advised to provide standardized
transparency labels, rather than complicated information.
The twenty-first century has been shaped by various catastrophes and scandals of companies which negatively influence the consumers’ perception of the firm. As a result, consumers nowadays are more skeptic and expect transparent information from companies such as details on product origin, labor standards and environmental aspects. Companies can profit from greater transparency on an organizational level through the improved interaction with their employees and business partners (Parris et al., 2016). Hultman and Axelsson (2007) propose that increased transparency by a company could have not only positive, but also negative results. Furthermore, consumers, too, are expected to participate in change towards more societal responsibility (Vitell, 2015). Thus, the purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of a) relevant types of corporate transparency and b) potential consequences on consumer attitudes and behavior such as perceived credibility, skepticism and purchase intention that can lead to consumer responsibility. This research applied a mixed-methods design in the context of the fashion industry. The findings of Study 1 (in-depth interviews) indicate that the two most relevant types of corporate transparency are supply chain transparency and cost transparency. In Study 2 (scenario-based experiment), these two types of transparency were tested for their effects on credibility and skepticism. Building on Information Processing Theory of Consumer Choice, the experiment showed that corporate transparency has a positive influence on the perceived credibility of a company and thereby decreases consumer skepticism. In contrast, it doesn’t have an influence on the consumer’s felt responsibility. Moreover, corporate transparency has a positive influence on the consumer’s responsible purchase intention. It is important to note, though, that the two types of transparency do not yield different results. In other words, as long as a company provides more infor-mation than commonly expected, e.g. on the production sites or on labor costs, perceived credibility of the company and, thus, consumers’ purchase intentions can be increased.
The Prep Com recommended in July that the UNGA initiate a negotiating conference on areas beyond national jurisdiction. It is widely expected to make such a decision. Then, the long haul negotiation will begin. The 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea does not regulate marine genetic resources in areas beyond the national jurisdiction of States (BBNJ). Part XIII of the Convention could accommodate BBNJ research, but not its governance. The triangulation of three factors-the interim absence of an international framework for governance of BBNJ research, an indirect reference to this issue in the on-going BBNJ deliberations on access and benefit sharing and an interim laissez-faire attitude in BBNJ exploration and exploitation-leads to a need for transparency in governance of BBNJ research activities. To address this lacuna, a United Nations Register on BBNJ Research Activities is recommended, encouraging scientists from all regions including Asia to engage in BBNJ research.
The 47th Session of the UNCITRAL finalized the draft Convention on Transparency in Treaty-based Investor-State Arbitration. It aims to provide a mechanism to allow the UNCITRAL Rules on Transparency to be applied to investment dispute arbitrations mandated by investment treaties concluded before April 1, 2014. This paper intends to examine these UNCITRAL Rules on Transparency and the draft Convention on Transparency. It is particularly in contrast with the relevant rules in the NAFTA, the U.S. Model BIT 2012 and the ICSID Rules 2006, to see if transparency can be enhanced in treaty-based investor-State arbitrations and to extrapolate the implications of the Rules on Transparency and the draft Convention for China’s strategy in BIT or FTA negotiations amid the trendy advancement of transparency standards.
This study was carried out to comparatively identify characteristics of turbid water influence in Imha Reservoir, Soyang Reservoir, and Daecheong Reservoir in Korea. We used 3 years dataset from 2002 to 2004 and analyzed seasonal water quality characteristics, particular parameters in association with turbidity, and light transparency to figure out the trends. All parameters to be used in the study were total phosphate (TP), total nitrogen (TN), chlorophyll-a (Chl), suspended solids (SS), Secchi depth (SD), conductivity, and vertical light extinction coefficienct (Kd), euphotic zone (Zeu), and critical depth (Zp). All parameters depend on season and watershed. Suspended solids from Soyang Reservoir were usually caused by TP, mainly related to living wastes and agricultures in upper stream. Daecheong Reservoir was influenced by organic matters related to large phytoplankton biomass in summer and inorganic suspended solids by nutrients in the winter. However, in case of Imha Reservoir, turbid water, consisted in silt and clay through heavy precipitation remained in the waterbody to decrease water transparency along with TP and caused the light limitation in winter. Overall results suggest that it was necessary to establish various management programs because the reasons occurring turbidity were varied according to the reservoir circumstances.

Colin Rowe's 'Transparency' is one of core ideas applied to 20th Modern Architecture. It implies not only an optical characteristic, the perfectly clear, but also a broader spacial order, a simultaneous perception of different spacial locations. The former connected with physical attribute itself, and the latter deeply with the metaphorical idea of time, 'Simultaneity', embodying a new spacial quality. However, If we analyze the meaning of "Simultaneity" implicated in "Transparency" with the perspective of Henry Bergson's "Duration", there would be only little possibility as a solution to the problem of embodying a new spacial quality in architecture. As such a question emerging, this paper attempts to point out the problem of Colin Rowe's idea, "Simultaneity", and suggest a new architectural design method to overcome its inconsistency by interpretation and application of Bergson's "Image and Rhythm".
The temporal variations of the transparency with water temperature, salinity and density during spring-neap tidal cycle of spring, summer, autumn and winter time were investigated at 34 stations using observation data in Deukryang Bay, Korea, in 1995. It was found that the transparency was depended on spread of tidal currents and vertical stratification of water. The depth of transparency during neap tide was deeper than that of spring tide. The value of transparency in summer was the largest among four seasons. We concluded that the vertical stratification intensity of water mass and vertical distribution of transparency.
Information transparency ensures that market players all have the opportunity to access the same information to come up with their assessment of the banks’ financial situation, performance and risks to reach effective investment decisions. This research is conducted to investigate the levels of impact of determinants on information transparency by examining the case studies of Vietnamese commercial banks. This study combines both qualitative and quantitative research methods, based on interviews of 32 specialists in banking, accounting and auditing fields, which were conducted to explore determinants influencing information transparency and to develop measurement scales. Then, a survey of 160 managers of commercial banks, audit firms, and accounting managers of firms who frequently had transactions with banks was carried out to investigate the statistical significance of these determinants. The results show that, out of seven determinants that have significant impacts on the banks’ information transparency, commitment from banks’ senior management regarding transparency in information disclosure has the highest impact, followed by state governance, auditing, information infrastructure, credit rating agencies, personnel and bank performance. Accordingly, we provide some recommendations for improving information transparency in the Vietnamese banking industry context as a case study and in emerging countries context in general.
