This study examines the discovery, nomination, and registration outcomes of astronomical materials under Korea’s National Scientific Heritage Registration System, introduced in 2019. By analyzing institutional structures, operational procedures, and statistical data, it finds that although astronomical materials constitute a relatively large proportion among surveyed items, but their share among registered materials remains limited. Nominated materials are concentrated primarily in astronomical books and documentary records, while facilities, instruments, astronomical maps, meteorological materials, and modern astronomical resources are comparatively underrepresented. This tendency reflects not only institutional factors but also the scholarly characteristics of astronomy, where theory, observation, instruments, records, and long-term accumulate over time to form an integrated system. This study argues that effective registration of astronomical materials requires interpretive approaches that account for such structural characteristics rather than a simple quantitative expansion of registrations. It highlights the need for material-type–specific perspectives, stronger continuity between discovery and registration stages, the accumulation of scholarly research, and gradual consideration of modern astronomical materials within the existing institutional framework.

In the traditional East Asian astronomical–calendrical system, the lunar nodes were termed Jeong-gyo(正交) and Joong-gyo(中交), conventionally referring to the descending and ascending nodes respectively, with Jeong-gyo used as the computational starting point. In the late Ming dynasty of China, the introduction of Western astronomy and the formation of the Shixianli(時憲曆) system generated conceptual confusion, as the Western method of measuring the degree from the ascending node to the Moon is incompatible with the term of Jeong-gyo, because Jeong in the term means staring point. Through an analysis of pre-Shixianli calendrical treatises, this study demonstrates that the correspondence between Jeong-gyo and Nahoo(羅睺), and between Joong-gyo and Gyedo(計都), was long maintained, and that although the Ming translation of the Islamic calendrical system, the Huihuili(回回曆), employed only Nahoo and Kyedo, their meanings remained unchanged. By comparing the longitude of Jeong-gyo in the lunar mean-motion tables of the three major Shixian li treatises with modern astronomical calculations, this study shows that Jeong-gyo corresponds to the descending node in the Chongzhen Lishu(崇禎曆書) but to the ascending node in the Lixiang Kaocheng(曆象考成) onward. This shift reveals a transitional confusion state and the correspondence between Jeong-gyo and Nahoo was gradually dismantled. These findings clarify the transitional redefinition of calendrical terminology in the process of assimilating Western astronomy.

With consent of Köppen and Wegener, Milankovitch asserted that the Pleistocene Ice Ages were induced by solar insolation reduction associated with the changes in the Earth’s orbital shape and obliquity angle and that the summer insolation at latitude 65N would have been the crucial factor. While his theory has been widely accepted nowadays, there also were opposing disputes pointing that a long periodicity of about 100 kyr - prominent in the climate proxy records - does not exist in his predicted solar insolation time series. In this investigation, the Earth’s solar insolation history for the past one million years has been re-estimated for three cases: (i) the July solar insolation at 65N, (ii) whole Earth year-average solar insolation, (iii) again whole Earth year-average solar insolation with assuming constant albedo. From the calculation results, we found that whole Earth year-average solar insolation time series during the past one million years contain the long periodic variations of period 90-120 kyr, while the July insolation at 65N show strong periodicities of 19.0, 22.4, 23.9 and 40.4 kyr. Also is confirmed that the calculated past July insolation at 65N show fair resemblance with a proxy climate record of oxygen isotope concentration. Such resemblance strongly advocates the assumption of Milankovitch-Köppen-Wegener. However, the long periodic variation (90-120 kyr) of the whole Earth solar insolation has been too small (over 200 times difference in amplitude) to drive the Earth’s temperature variation. It has been found that coarse time interval consideration of solar insolation (aliased signal) misled Milankovitch to presume that the advent of the Ice Ages would be completely explained by his theory. We could not find the cause of the long periodic climate variation from solar insolation time series.

We present the results of an Artificial Intelligence (AI)–based galaxy morphology classification study using morphology classification data produced by citizen scientists through the project “Everyone’s Galaxy Research Lab(모두의 은하 연구소)” conducted as part of the program “Science with Citizens(시민과 함께 과학)”. To do that, we construct a high-confidence dataset of 20,854 galaxies by aggregating crowdsourced labels and cross-validating them with previous classifications by experts for large-survey data. We train and compare VGGNet- and ResNet-based convolutional neural networks under different input strategies for the three RGB color channels, including models that integrate all color channels into a single input and ensemble models that process each color channel separately. We find that all models achieve consistently high performance (F1 ≈ 0.89) for primary morphological classes such as elliptical, disk, and spiral galaxies. However, detecting fine substructures including rings, bars, tidal tails, and irregular features is found to require deeper architectures and morphology-dependent input configurations. These results show that computationally efficient channel-separated ensemble models improve precision for geometrically well-defined structures, and that integrated RGB models more effectively capture faint, diffuse structures. Based on these results, we propose an adaptive and cost-efficient AI framework in which we tailor network depth and input configuration to the structural scale and complexity of target galaxies. Our study establishes a scalable deep learning pipeline that bridges citizen science datasets and automated analysis for next-generation large galaxy surveys.
