        In the case of cultural properties, each member has a cultural value and replacing of damaged wood is not easy. In addition, state of our country research for repair and reinforcement of timber are still incomplete. since 2008, research of the reinforcement method using CFRP plate has started. in this study, experiment for the adhesion strength along attachment length of surface bonded and NSM using CFRP plate. As a result, the adhesive strength is increased depend on increased of the adhesion area, measured the change of intensity according to the species of the wood.

        Based on the analysis and test of concrete box structure under blast load, it was found that the blast retrofit by Kevlar/glass hybrid fabric sheet was more effective than retrofit by Carbon fiber reinforced plastic sheet to improve the structural performance of concrete subjected to blast pressure.

        In this study, several vibration characteristics of model bridge due to changes in cable tension are experimentally analyzed. In order to achieve the study, acceleration responses are measured from the model bridge for several cable tension case. The values of features extracted by frequency transform method are increased due to tension-loss.

        The amount of newly-built bridges has been gradually reduced so that the importance of maintenance for existing bridges which has a long services period is issued. Therefore, the maintenance budget for existing bridges is going to be consistently increased. It is needed that a reasonable decision-making methodology for existing bridge maintenance is required to effectively use the limited maintenance budget. In this study, a method of the structural vulnerability evaluation is newly suggested as the one of the evaluation stage for developing a reasonable decision-making methodology.

        Structural damping includes material damping, friction effects at bearing and expansion joints, friction at bolted joints and mechanical damping by damper. There is not analytical basis for estimating the damping ratios. Structural damping ratios can be estimated by measuring forced vibration amplitude of a certain mode but it is almost impossible to vibrate the actual bridges to a certain mode by force. Therefore, RD technique utilizing a lot of ambient vibration data can be a practical method to estimate damping ratio. In this study, the damping ratio is estimated by analyzing the ambient vibration data of three steel cable stayed bridges.

        Safety management means that protect the life and property from natural disaster such as earthquake and abnormal climate etc. And also it is very important as the building structures are higher and more large scale structures. In this paper, various kind of technologies including fiber optic sensor application, image processing for detect the crack width are simply proposed. And also, the schematic system which can be applicable to the safety management of building and large scale structure are suggested. Related research project have performed by KICT since 2011, and this year is 2nd project period. As time goes on, the developing state of the arts will be presented in the future.

        Severe corrosion damage on the deck surface of a orthotropic bridge deck with bulb rib has been reported in Japan. Therefore, in this study, structural behaviors of a orthotropic bridge deck was numerically examined using FE analysis program MARCment2010. Thus, its deck thickness was decreased according to corrosion damage level of the deck. The deformations and the stress distributions of a orthotropic bridge deck with bulb rib were compared and evaluated.

        Maintenance of plant facilities are becoming important due to lots of recent plant construction. While maintenance of plant facilities are performed, maintenance of plant structures are usually not carried out properly. In this paper, measurement threshold estimation algorithm is developed for maintenance of pipe-rack structure. Currently, field verification of the developed algorithm is being performed on a real pipe-rack structure.

        Structural dynamic properties such as natural frequency depend not only on damage but also environmental condition (i.e., Temperature). Without removing the variation of environmental condition in the damage detection, false-positive or negative damage diagnosis may occur so that structural health monitoring becomes unreliable. One of methods used to solve this problem is to construct regression model based on structural responses with the environmental factors. However, it is difficult to determine where and which environmental variables to measure. One alternative is to remove the variability due to environmental variation without measurement of environmental variables. However, the performance of this method is depending on how to define the reference data set. Generally, there is no prior information on reference condition (i.e., healthy condition) during data mining. Reference condition is determined based on subjective perspective with human-intervention. To overcome the drawback of current methods, this paper investigates adaptive PCA technique for the monitoring of structural damage detection under environmental change. This method is not required to determine the reference condition and measure the environmental variables. Proposed method is tested on numerically simulated data for a range of noise in measurement under environmental variation.

        In this Study cable tension of existing cable-stayed bridge is measured by non-contact laser vibrometer, and applicability of a non-contact vibration measurement method is experimentally evaluated. According to the analysis results, the non-contact vibration measurement method reveals an error of less than 5%, and could be efficiently applied to a rapid measurement for nonstationary response analysis of bridge structures.

        In this paper, we developed a performance evaluation system which enables to evaluate surface condition and sectional shape change of structure. We use various convergence technology such as 3D laser scanning, digital image processing and texture mapping. This modular system is quite practicable in matters of many current structures. This system can solve the problems in current visual inspection of structures, and systemize the inspection tasks scientifically.

        This paper aims to prove the effectiveness of MR damper as a smart control device when controlling the earthquake invoked transverse vibration of a two-span simple bridge. Applying a 40% of Kobe earthquake and a 120% of El-centro on a target structure, experiments were performed under two conditions: passive on (current on) and Lyapunov control algorithm embedded. MR damper's control performance was analyzed and contrasted under each different condition. It was concluded that MR damper was effective in controlling the vibration of the bridge.

        Dynamic characteristics of large civil infrastructures have been monitored for safe operation and efficient maintenance of the structures. To measure vibration data, the conventional system uses cables causing very expensive costs and inconvenience for installation. Therefore, various wireless sensor nodes have been developed to replace the conventional wired system. However, there remain lots of issues to be resolved such as power supply, data loss, data security, etc. In this study, smart distributed sensor node (SDSN) was developed to measure vibration data. The SDSN is basically timely synchronized one-channel data acquisition system. It consists of its local time clock with high accuracy and SD memory card or local data storage. It is designed for temporal measurement, not long-term monitoring, since it can operate several hours using embedded batteries. Laboratoy tests were carried to verify the performance of the developed SDSN compared with conventional wired sensors. Several application examples for large civil infrastructure were also suggested.

        In this study, a new damage detection method using an inclinometer which can directly measure rotational displacement is developed and its effectiveness investigated. In order to verify the attractive features of the proposed method such as an increase in sensitivity and the data loss minimization, numerical analyses were performed by the uniform load surface curvature (ULSC) method, which is the damage detection method based on the modal flexibility matrix. For numerical analysis, 2 m simply supported beam, which has 20 elements and 21 nodes is considered. From the results of the eigenvalue analysis, the damage locations were perfectly detected in each damage case. It shows that the damage detection using rotational displacement is theoretically possible. From the result of numerical simulations, the damage locations were detected exactly. When compared with the detection method based on vertical displacements obtained from accelerometers, it is shown that using the rotational displacement is much more sensitive than using the vertical displacement. Overall, when compared with the accelerometer data, the damage detection performed by an inclinometer was more sensitive.

        This paper presents a new method for conveniently estimating static displacements of a structure based on its vibration data. In the proposed method, structural static displacements can be obtained using a normalized modal flexibility matrix assisted by a known mass perturbation method in order to overcome several shortcomings of existing displacement sensors such as the limitation on installation due to surrounding environments and the inconvenience to the public during static loading tests. For validating the feasibility of the proposed method, experimental validation was carried out on a simply-supported beam model. It was found that the proposed method can be an effective alternative to conventional static displacement estimation.
