The study was conducted to evaluate reliability of the longitudinal tensile properties of unidirectional carbon fiber reinforced composites. Two kinds of carbon fiber reinforced composites laminates were tested in order to examine the factors of variability and have the information concerning reliability improvement. Temperature dependence of the strength and its variability were investigated by means of testing at two kinds of temperatures. Statistical distributions of the respective mechanical properties were obtained from the tensile tests. As a result, strength of composites was directly proportional to the ultimate strain and was not proportional to the elastic modulus. The fracture behavior in bending of notched plate was studied for a composite material. The uniform bending tests of notched plates have been carried out for a wide range of notch radii. The experiment shows that the nominal stress at failure decreased with decreasing notch radius and it approaches a constant value when the notch radius is less than about 0.3mm. The critical maximum stress is governed by notch root radius alone in the case of a constant thickness of specimen.
This work studies for boiling and condensation heat transfer performance of trapezoidally shaped integral-fin tubes having fin densities from 748fpm to 1654fpm. For comparison, tests are made using a plain tube having the same inside and outside diameter as that of the root of fins of finned tubes. Hahne's theoretical model and Webb's theoretical model are used to predict the R-11 boiling heat transfer coefficient and condensing heat transfer coefficient respectively for plain tube and all integral-fin tubes. Experiments are carried out using R-11 as working fluid. This work is limited to film-wise condensation and pool boiling on the outside surface of plain tube and 4 low integral-fin tubes. In case of condensation, the refrigerant condenses at saturation state of 32℃ on the outside tube surface cooled by coolant and in case of boiling. the refrigerant evaporates at saturation state of 1bar on the outside tube surface. The amount of non-con-densable gases in the test loop is reduced to a negligible value by repeated purging. The actual boiling and condensing processes occur on the outside tube surfaces. Hence the nature of this surface geometry affects the heat transfer performances of condenser and evaporator in refrigerating system. The condensation heat transfer coefficient of integral-fin tube is enhanced by both extended tube surface area and surface tension. The ratio of the condensation heat transfer coefficients of finned to plain tubes is greater than that of surface area of finned to plain tubes, while ratio of the boiling heat transfer coefficient of finned to plain tubes shows reverse result. As a result, low integral-fin tube can be used in condenser more effectively than used in evaporator.

Transmitting and receiving frequency wave forms and resisting pressure of an underwater speaker at 80m in the depth of water were in good condition. Therefore it can be possible to use it as an underwater speaker.
Purse seiner detects a fish school navigating in full speed with the aid of fish finder, sonar, helicopter, etc., and casts a net quickly to enclose the fish school in purse seine net according to the movement of the fish school, wind, and current. At this moment, if the time of casting a net, direction, speed, and turning circle are net suitable, it is unavoidable to lose fish school founded with hard efforts and we only consume our efforts of casting and hauling the net. Therefore, in order to enclose the fish school to enhance the amount of fish for each casting, the author investigated the type of ships equipped with purse seiners and examined maneuvering tests so that we provide some basic information to figure out the ability of steerage correctly. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Block coefficients of pelagic tuna purse seiners with gross tonnage between 500 and 1500 tons are recorded between 0.50 and 0.55 which are greater than those of off shore purse seiners recorded as between 0.44 and 0.54 and less than those of various cargo ships recorded as between 0.56 and 0.84. 2. Stow-net is originally spreaded with a lifting beam and a depressing beam. The net is improved by using canvas-made spreading devices by Mr. Han and his colleagues in the beginning of 1980's. The net is improved again by changing the partial shape of netting and arrangement of net pendants so as to be fitting with the actual performance of the net by Dr. Lee and his colleagues since 1988. The author studied to compare the fishing efficiency of those two kinds of nets(The former which was improve by Mr. Han is expressed as a traditional net and the latter improved again by Dr. Lee is expressed as an improved net in the present study). Twenty-one stow-netters concerned with the present study were selected among those based on the Port of Inchon, and were classified into two groups-eleven of them are a traditional net used group and ten are an improved net used group. The data on the fishing operation from August 1992 to March 1993, including the catch, the price of sell, the fishing operated times in every cruise and the fished position noticed by every stow-netter were offered by concerned stow-netters. From the data the times of operation, catch and value in every cruise were extracted and analyzed. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The times of operation in cruise were 13.7 by the traditional net used group and 12.7 by the improved net used group. 2. The mean catch per cruise showed 10.1M/T in the traditional net used group and 12.2M/T in the improved net used group, so the latter showed 21% better. 3. The mean catch per operation showed 0.7M/T in the traditional net used group and 0.9M/T in the improved net used group, so the latter showed 28% better. 4. The rate of three important species(starks, hair tail and croakers) in the total catch showed 83%, and the catch showed greater by the improved net used group at the rate of starks 141%, hair tail 110%, croakers 107%. 5. The rate of three important species in the total price showed 82%, but the price of starks which occupied the biggest in catch showed merely 5%, then the economical efficiency appeared low. 6. The mean price per stow-netter and per operation showed about 20%, greater respectively by the improved net used group and the mean price per operation by two important species(hair tail and croakers) showed greater about 30% by the improved net used group.
Acoustical imaging has made brilliant progress in the medical science field, and has also made much progress in the nondestructive testing and under water acoustics applications since doctor Dussik brother has studied about possibilities of making images of brain by recording variations in the intensity of ultrasonic beam from head in 1937. In this paper an acoustical image is reconstructed with the power spectra analysed by impulse ultrasound wave generated by electrodynamic transducer(EDT). The EDT generates the impulse ultrasound of 77KHz in center frequency and 120KHz in bandwidth at -20dB by 1200V exciter in this experiment. The impulse ultrasound has the dominant frequency components of 47KHz, 177KHz, 110KHz and 155KHz. The U shape object is adopted in making an acoustical image. The resulted spectral acoustical images are different from the optical view of the U shape object. However the image reconstructed from 110KHz spectrum is very similar to the original optical shape of the object. Even KHz level impulse sound of 70μsec pulse width is found to be useful in reconstructing acoustical imaging improvement.
This paper presents a design method of fuzzy controller based on TSK fuzzy model. By using the proposed method, we can design fuzzy controller mathematically, which guarantees the stability of fuzzy system. We derived a theorem related to the stability of fuzzy system. In that theorem, we show that the fuzzy system has the same stable state transition matrix as we desire. The validity of the proposed method is shown through an experiment of DC motor velocity control.
Robot inverse kinematics solution is a complex nonlinear equation and very time-consuming task. This paper propose to use TSK fuzzy reasoning for solving robot inverse kinematics. A fuzzy model of inverse kinematics is identified by using input-output data and the model is used to solve the inverse kinematics. To show that, when used in robot inverse kinematics, fuzzy model is simple and generates a fairly accurate solution, a fuzzy model of inverse kinematics for PUMA robot is constructed.
The trimethylamine-sensing characteristics of ZnO based thin film semiconductors and the sensitivity enhancement by squttering conditions have been investigated to develop a new type sensor for detecting fish freshness. The sensor fabricated with a 300nm of ZnO thin film with 4 wt% Al sub(2) O sub(3) and 1 wt% TiO sub(2) exhibited the highest sensitivity of 155 at 300℃ of working temperature and to the 240 ppm TMA gas. Deposition of ZnO thin film using a RF magnetron sputter was carried out at a pressure of 10 super(-2) Torr in pure oxygen gas with an RF power of 100W. The sensor exhibited a large response to the actual gases produced by a mackerel at an early stage of decomposition.
Due to depletion of fish resources as time goes on, the trawl fishing industries which have caught the demersal fish is confronting with financial difficulties. For the purpose of breaking these difficulties, trawlers are expanding the fishing targets to the midwater from bottom stock. The trawlers become to be able to detect the fish schools not only vertical but also horizontal direction by equipping the sonar system on board. Even though the operator locates the fish school by sonar, it is not easy to make a desirable catch of the fish school which is detected, for the reason of the maneuverring characteristics of trawler. For the purpose of enhancing the efficiency of a fish catch, the auther performed a series of on board experiments to investigate the maneuverablilites of midwater trawaler. The obtained results are summerized as follows: 1. The higher the RPM of main engine, the smaller the magnitude of turning circle. And it is smaller in the right than in the left turning 2. Towing speed varies irregularly under turning novenment. When the RPM of main engine being 560, 680 the angular velocities are 11.3deg/min, 22.5deg/min respectively. 3. The difference of new course distance between calculated by maneuverring indices and measured by experimental ship is high when altering course being large and towing speed low. 4. The faster the towing speed is, the shorter the new course distance becomes. When towing speed is same in right and left turning movement, the now course distance is shorter in case of right turning movement than in left. 5. It is considered to be convenient for a navigator to utilize the curves for altering course in order to steer the ship rapidly and accurately.
The fishing experiment was carried out by the training ship Saebada in order to analyse the mesh selectivity for trawl cod-end, in the Southern Korea Sea and the East China Sea from June. 1991 through August, 1992. In this paper, a method of ghost cancelling for the television signals using complex adaptive filter is studied. The sin(x)/x signal is used as the reference signal a complex adaptive filter. The ghost cancelling characteristics considering the delay time, the attenuation, and the phase difference of multipath waves are investigated using horizontal sync pulse and color burst signal in composite video waveform. The influences of phase difference in ghost cancelling are investigated and the performances between the real processing and the complex processing are compared by the computer simulation. It was found that influences in ghost by phase difference are remarkably reduced by the complex adaptive filtering.
This paper presents a description and evaluation of a detailed mathematical simulation for the steady and unsteady flow in a radial inflow-turbine which is most frequently used, at present, for exhaust gas turbochargers of internal combustion engines. As a method of computation, the two-step differential Lax-Wendroff method and the characteristic method were used. The turbine characteristics, the mass flow rate, the power output and fluid movements at the turbine scroll inlet were compared with the experiment data. The results of the simulation were in good agreement with experimental values under both steady and unsteady flow conditions.
Counter balance valve is used as one part of hydraulic motor brake system. The function of this valve is to protect over-run or free falling of inertia load. But occasionally the brake system with counter balance valve makes some undesirable problems such as pressure surges or vibrations. These problems may hurt system safety and driver's conformability. Nevertheless, studies on dynamic characteristics of hydraulic system including counter balance valve are very rare, so further accumulation of research results are required. In this study, for the purpose of easy estimation about dynamic characteristics of hydraulic system including counter balance valve, precise formulation describing fluid dynamics and valve dynamics under various boundary conditions were made. The equations obtained in the preceding process include some parameters that must be got experimentally. Flow coefficients of valve and choke are the most significant ones among the parameters. So these parameters are obtained experimentally in this study, and experimental equations obtained from the experimental data were used for numerical calculation. The equations were analysed by numerical integration using Runge-Kutta method, because the equations contain various nonlinear terms. From the numerical analysis, it was verified that the dynamic response of counter balance valve and pressure variation at each elements can be estimated very easily. So the analysing method developed in this study enabled very easy estimating the relation between the performances of counter balance valve and various physical parameters related to the valve. Conclusively, it is said that the results obtained in this study can be used very usefully to develop a new type counter balance valve or to apply the valve to actual hydraulic system for various industrial equipments.
A model experiment on a midwater rope trawl net which is used in the North Pacific to catch alaska pollack is carried out in the circulating tank to examine the basic efficiency of the net. The prototype is the net used by M/S Hanil(1, 179GT, 2, 700PS), a Korean trawler. The model net was made according to the Tauti's Similarity Law of Fishing Gear in 1/100 scale by considering the condition of the tank. To measure the basic efficiency of the standard model net, the vertical opening and width between some points marked on the net were measured, and the hydrodynamic resistance were determined. Then the constructive conditions of the net were varied as follows and the factors were measured again to compare the efficiency of those nets with that of the standard net(A-1 type) front weight multiplied 1.5 times: A-2 type. buoyancy and depressing force multiplied 1.7 times: A-3 type. front weight multiplied 1.5 times on A-3 type: A-4 type. depressors rigged at ground rope: B type. cod-end stuffed with cashmylon wad: C type. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. The vertical opening at the center of head rope was steeply decreased with the flow velocity increasing and the vertical opening H(m) can be expressed in H=1.2v super(-1.2)(v : flow velocity in m/sec). The width of the net varied a little when the flow velocity was over 0.4m/sec, and the width of net mouth showed about 37% of the distance between the fore tips of net pendant. The shape of net mouth was almost a circle at 0.2m/sec and then steeply flatted elliptically with the flow velocity increasing and the area of mouth S(m super(2)) can be expressed in S=(1.65-2.3v)×10 super(-2). The hydrodynamic resistance of the net increased almost linearly with the flow velocity increasing and the resistance R(kg) can be expressed in R=3.2×d/l×abv. where d/l denotes the mean of d(diameter of netting twine) and l(length of a leg in a mesh) from wing tip to the end of bag-net except cod-end on the side pannel, and a denotes the strectched circumference of the net at the fore end of a meshed part and b the stretched length of the whole net from wing tip to the end of cod-end. 2. In the condition-varied nets, the vertical opening of head rope showed some increase in every type net except the C type, and the increase showed the greatest in the B type by 30~54%, whereas it showed decrease in the C type by 5~10%. Variation of the area of net mouth showed almost the same tendency as the vertical opening and the increase showed the greatest in the B type by 20%, whereas it showed decrease in the C type by 12%. Hydrodynamic resistance showed some increase in every type compared with the standard net, and the rate of increase indicated 5~10% in the A-2, A-3 and A-4 type, 22% in the B type and 3% in the C type.
In order to analysis creep characteristics and elastic recovery of the high-tech fibers for fishing gear materials, creep and elasticity tests were carried out on netting twines made of nylon, kevlar 29 and techmilon respectively. After creep tests, the rupture surface of raw materials was observed by scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results obtained are as follows: 1. Netting twines were arranged in order of creep rupture time as follow: techmilon, kevlar 29, nylon. The creep progressive pace was the fastest in techmilon. 2. In order of the creep elongating, netting twines were arranged as follows: nylon, techmilon, kevlar 29. 3. The rupture time T sub(r) decreased almost linearly with the increase of applied load L on the log-log scaled graph. The empirical equations computed for kevlar 29 and techmilon are as follows: T sub(r kevlar 29)=1.9512×1037L super(-15.773). T sub(r techmilon)=2.7146×1016L super(-6.831). 4. It was observed by SEM that creep was progressed in all netting twines. The difference of rupture morphology was recognized clearly in tensile and creep tests. 5. In order of the elastic recovery, netting twines were arranged as follows: techmilon, kevlar 29, nylon.
