        소듐 2-브로모에탄술포네이트를 이용한 2-에티닐피리딘의 무촉매중합을 통하여 새로운 이온성 폴리아세틸렌을 합성하였다. 중합반응은 균일하게 진행되었으며 높은 수율 (중합수율: 78%)로 해당고분자를 합성하였다. 반응 초기 사차 염화과정에서 생성된 활성화 N-(에틸술포네이트 소듐)-2-에티닐피리디늄 브로마이드가 중합반응의 단량체로 참여하고 있는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 고분자의 분자 구조를 여러 가지 분석기기로 확인한 결과 설계한 치환기를 갖는 폴리아세틸렌 유도체가 합성되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 합성 고분자의 고유점도는 0.12-0.15 dL/g 범위였으며 X-선 회절분석 결과 무정형상임을 확인할 수 있었다. 고분자의 광발광 피크가 593 nm에서 관찰되었는데, 이는 2.09 eV의 광에너지에 해당한다. 이 고분자는 도핑과 탈도핑 피크 사이에서 비가역 전기화학적 거동을 보였다.

        Carbon fibers (CFs) have high service temperature, strength, and stiffness, and low weight. They are widely used as reinforcing materials in advanced polymer composites. The role of the polymer matrix in the composites is to provide bulk to the composite laminate and transfer load between the fibers. The interface between the CF and the resin matrix plays a critical role in controlling the overall properties of the composites. This paper aims to review the synthesis, properties, and applications of polymer matrices, such as thermosetting and thermoplastic resins.

        Benthic macroinvertebrates were collected using the Surber sampler from streams in forest areas in Southern Korea in spring and summer. Self-Organizing Map (SOM) was utilized to reveal community patterns in response to natural and anthropogenic variability in different seasons. The gradient was mainly observed according to degree of pollution and altitude. Subsequently, community compositions reflected seasonality in less-polluted area, showing difference in functional feeding groups. Gatherer-collectors and filterer-collectors were abundantly collected in spring whereas scrapers and predators were sampled in a majority in late summer. Representative species groups were identified in different seasons. persistence in communities in response to natural and anthropogenic variability.

        Pomacea canaliculata (golden apple snail) as an invasive species in Asia has become a serious agricultural pest, especially in young rice, and makes significant environmental changes resulting from the depletion of macrophytes in natural wetlands. Even though various environmental factors influence to growth rate, reproduction, survival and behavior in apple snail, water temperature is one of the overwhelming effect on freshwater snails in general. In this sense, the objective of this study was to examine the changes of individual behavior in the apple snail according to the temperature changes. The snails were acclimated at 25℃, and 9 behavior categories were examined in each temperature regime (25℃ to 30℃, 2 5℃ to 20℃, and 25℃ to 15℃) for three days. Autocorrelation function (ACF) was applied to characterize the presence or absence of periodic behaviors in apple snails. The snails’ behavior in the treatment of elevated temperature were irregularly fluctuated or decayed in most behavior categories. On the other hands, in decreasing temperature from 25℃ to 15℃, the snails were nonstationary, especially in clinging behavior. The snails showed periodicity and some of them were decayed in clinging behavior in temperature changing from 25℃ to 20℃.

        Mitis group streptococci (MGS) were classified based on the nucleotide sequences 16S rRNA gene (16S rDNA) and comprised 13 Streptococcus species. However, 16S rDNA homogeneity among MGS was too high to discriminate between clinical strains at the species level, notably between Streptococcus mitis, Streptococcus oralis, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Streptococcus pseudopneumoniae. The purpose of this study was to discriminate between 37 strains of MGS isolated from Korean oral cavities using phylogenetic analysis of the DNA-dependant RNA polymerase beta‐subunit gene (rpoB). 16S rDNA and rpoB from clinical strains of MGS were sequenced using the dideoxy chain termination method and analyzed using MEGA version 5 software. The resulting phylogenetic data showed that the rpoB sequences could delineate clinical strains of MGS at the species level. Phylogenetic analysis of rpoB is therefore a useful approach for dentifying MGS at the species level.

        The increase in the meat quality and milk production of cows, which breed Korean Native Cow (KNC) and Holstein cow, is not improving reproductive efficiency. In this study, we examined the effect of interferon (IFN) supplementation on motility of frozen-thawed semen and pregnancy rate after artificial insemination of KNC and Holstein cow. In experiment 1, we investigated the effect of IFN-tau concentration (10,000 IU and 20,000 IU) on the percentage of total motility (TM) and progressive motility (PM) of frozen-thawed spermatozoa. In experiment 2, KNC were infused 20,000 IU IFN-tau at insemination or after insemination. In experiment 3, KNC or Holstein cow were inseminated with frozen-thawed semen and infused 20,000 IU IFN-gamma or -tau after insemination. In experiment 1, the average of TM (23.9% to 30.9%) and PM (18.5% to 21.9%) were similar between control and treatments. In experiment 2, the pregnancy rates of IFN infusing times were not different from 45.8% to 53.6%. In experiment 3, the pregnancy rates of Holstein cow infused different kinds of IFN were similar (control, IFN-gamma, IFN-tau; 42.9%, 40.5%, 48.0%). In the case of KNC, however, the pregnancy rate of control was 55.6%, which was significantly lower than that of IFN-gamma (68.9%; p<0.05). Thus, IFN is effective on the improvement of reproductive efficiency, but further study is needed.

        Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are increasingly attracting scientific and industrial interest because of their outstanding characteristics, such as a high Young's modulus and tensile strength, low density, and excellent electrical and thermal properties. The incorporation of CNTs into polymer matrices greatly improves the electrical, thermal, and mechanical properties of the materials. Surface modification of CNTs can improve their processibility and dispersion within the composites. This paper aims to review the surface modification of CNTs, processing technologies, and mechanical and electrical properties of CNT-based epoxy composites.

        Embryo reconstruction by somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) has been used to demonstrate that mammalian somatic cells can dedifferentiate into a totipotent nucleus when introduced into an oocyte. This process of dedifferentiation of somatic cells after nuclear transplantation is defined as nuclear reprogramming, although this terminology gives little information on the molecular events that characterize this process. When planning on strategies for nuclear reprogramming by nuclear transfer (NT) one may suggest that converting the somatic nuclear configuration into an embryonic state is highly desirable, so this may promote a succession of events similar to those occurring during early embryo development. In the following part of this overview we will discuss the results of many studies that have investigated different aspects of nuclear remodelling after SCNT.

        Part of a field survey to assess the extent of damage by termite (Reticulitermes speratus kyushuensis Morimoto), termite samples were collected from various locations of Korea from 2009 to 2011. During the study period, we firstly discovered Reticulitermes species on Jeju island, and partial sequences of mitochondrial COII gene, which is proved useful to study phylogenetic relationships of termites were investigated. Also, morphological characteristics of the collected samples were compared with previous reports. According to the result of taxonomic study and comparative sequence analysis, it was identified as Reticulitermes speratus kyushuensis Morimoto, and this is first report of R. s. kyushuensis from Jeju island in Korea which can be used as estimation of population structure and tool of control strategy.

        제초제 저항성 유전자가 도입된 형질전환 토마토에서 T-DNA의 특성을 분석하였다. 형질전환 토마토의 T-DNA 도입형태를 분석하기 위한 primer쌍을 제작하여 rpPCR을 실시하 였다. T0-21(15:1, 4 copy), 26(3:1, 3 copy), 34(63:1, 4 copy)의 경우에는 5쌍의 primer를 이용하여 수행한 rpPCR 결과에서 양쪽이 절단된 불완전한 T-DNA 반복이 확인되었다. 도입된 T-DNA의 주변 서열 및 분포를 알아보기 위하여 총 52개체의 형질전환체에 대하여 TAIL-PCR을 실시하였다. 이 중 22개 형질전환체의 TAIL-PCR 산물의 염기서열을 분석하였는데, 2개의 형질전환체에서 나온 염기서열 결과는 토마토의 12번 염색체와 90%, 1개체는 토마토 clone 135006R과 98%, 5개체는 담배의 엽록체와 97% 상동성을 보였으며, 12개체는 다양한 vector의 염기서열을 나타내었고, 그 외 나머지 개체들은 토마토 유전체 정보와 는 유사성을 찾을 수 없었다.

        Resistance to the induction of apoptosis is a possible me- chanism by which tumor cells can survive anti-neoplastic treatments. Melanoma is notoriously resistant to anti-neop- lastic therapy. Previous studies have demonstrated focal adhesion kinase (FAK) overexpression in melanoma cell lines. Given its probable role in mediating resistance to apo- ptosis, many researchers have sought to determine whether the downregulation of FAK in melanoma cells would confer a greater sensitivity to anti-neoplastic agents. Genistein is a known inhibitor of protein-tyrosine kinase (PTK), which may attenuate the growth of cancer cells by inhibiting the PTK- mediated signaling pathway. This present study was under- taken to investigate the effect of genistein on the expression of FAK and cell cycle related proteins in the G361 me- lanoma cell line. Genistein was found to have a preferential cyto- toxic effect on G361 melanoma cells over HaCaT normal ke- ratinocytes. Genistein decreased the expression of 125 kDa phosphotyrosine kinase and the FAK protein in particular. Genistein treatment did not affect the expression of p53 in G361 cells in which p21 is upregulated. The expression of cy- clin B and cdc2 was downregulated by genistein treatment. Taken together, our data indicate that genistein induces the decreased proliferation of G361 melanoma cells via the in-hibition of FAK expression and regulation of cell cycle genes. This suggests that the use of genistein may be a via- ble approach to future melanoma treatments.

        1. 세계 26개국에서 도입된 녹두 유전자원 705점에 대하여16개의 형태적 형질 특성을 이용하여 각각 두 가지의 군집방법, 핵심집단 자원수 결정방법 및 표본추출 방법을 조합하여 총8개의 핵심집단(SUNPR, SUNPPr, UNPR, UNPPr, SUNLR, SUNLPr, UNLR, UNLPr)을 작성하여 원수집단과 비교한바 8개핵심집단 모두 원수집단과는 분산과 평균치에서 차이가 없었다. 2. Nei의 다양성지수는 8개 핵심집단 모두 원수집단 보다높았고, 특히 UNLPr이 가장 높았으며, UNPR은 다른 핵심집단에 비하여 상대적으로 낮은 지수를 보였다. 3. 원수집단과 핵심집단간 자원분포의 동질성을 파악하기 위하여 카이자승 검증을 한 결과 12개 양적형질과 1개의 질적형질(종피색)은 모든 핵심집단이 동질분포를 보였으나 3개의질적 형질 (배축색, 종피광택, 생육습성)은 핵심집단에 따라서동질분포를 하는 것과 그렇지 않은 것이 있었으며, 8개 핵심집단 중 UNPPr은 동질성이 가장 높았다. 평균차율(MD%)과일치율(CR%)은 8개 핵심집단 모두 유의한 수준을 보였다. 4. 8개의 모든 핵심집단이 원수집단과 평균치에서 차이가 없고, 높은 다양성을 과 동질한 분포를 보이며, 평균차율(MD%)과 일치율(CR%)이 유의한 수준을 보여 원수집단의 다양성을잘 나타내는 것으로 해석되었다. 5. 핵심수집단 크기(10%와 15%)에 따른 다양성은 유의한차이가 없었으며, 8개의 핵심집단 중 평균치, 동질분포, 일치율 및 도복내성을 고려할 때 UNPPr이 가장 좋은 핵심집단으로 사료되었다.

        This study was conducted to observe the fermentative quality and anthocyanin content in whole crop colored barley silage during storage periods and anthocyanin stability in in vitro ruminal fluid. Silages of colored barley cultivar “Boanchalbori” and normal barley cultivar “Yuyeonbori” were stored during 0, 2, 4, 6, and 12 months. The in vitro ruminal fluid was fermented for 0, 6, 12, 24, and 48 hrs. For the feed value, crude protein of colored barley silage was slightly increased in the silage compared to that of normal barley silage, and being increased up to 2 months after ensiling and thereafter maintained at the similar level. Neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and acid detergent fiber (ADF) contents of both the barley significantly increased by prolonged storage of 2 months (p<0.05), but they were maintained at the constant level after 2 months of storing silage. Whereas TDN (total digestible nutrients) contents of them were decreased by the prolonged storage of 2 months (p<0.05), then maintained at the constant levels. The fermentative quality and pH values in both the barley silages were slightly decreased during the storage time. Lactic acid and acetic acid contents were increased during prolonged storage period, but not significantly different among treatments. Butyric acid was not detected. In the colored barley silage, pH value showed slightly lower compared to that of the normal barley silage but not significant, and lactic acid content was significantly higher than the normal barley silage (p<0.05). The total anthocyanin content in the whole crop colored barley silage decreased to 42% after 2 months of ensilage, however maintained at the constant level until 12 months of ensilage. In the case of anthocyanin stability on in vitro ruminal fluid digestion, the pH value of the ruminal fluid was slightly lower at 6, 12, 24, 48h incubation time and the content of anthocyanin was at similar levels. These results indicated that the colored barley showed higher fermentation quality, and total anthocyanin content was maintained stable at 42% level of the first value in storing silage. As the anthocyanin had higher stability in the ruminal fluid, the colored barley has a potential as functional feeds for Ruminants.

        Although bombesin (BN) regulates colonic motility, the associated mechanism of action remains unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of BN on colonic motility using isolated rat colon. An isolated rat colon was perfused with Krebs solution via the superior mesenteric artery. Intraluminal pressure was measured via microtip catheter pressure transducers at both proximal and distal portions of the isolated colon. After a control period, BN was administered intraarterially in concentrations of 13, 26, 130, and 260 pM. After pretreatment with hexamethonium (10-3 M), atropine (10-5 M), or tetrodotoxin (10-6 M), BN was administered at a concentration of 260 pM (proximal colon) or 130 pM (distal colon); intraluminal pressure was then monitored. Changes in motility were expressed as the percentage change of motility index (MI) over the basal period. As a result, BN increased colonic motility and a dose-dependent increase in proximal colonic motility was observed. The stimulant effect of BN was almost completely abolished by atropine and tetrodotoxin at both the proximal and distal colon. However, BN was not inhibited by hexamethonium at both the proximal and distal colon. Therefore, the stimulant action of BN may be mediated by local cholinergic muscarinic receptors.

        The technique of SCNT is now well established but still remains inefficient. The in vitro development of SCNT embryos is dependent upon numerous factors including the recipient cytoplast and karyoplast. Above all, the metaphase of the second meiotic division (MII) oocytes have typically become the recipient of choice. Generally high level of MPF present in MII oocytes induces the transferred nucleus to enter mitotic division precociously and causes NEBD and PCC, which may be the critical role for nuclear reprogramming. In the present study we investigated the in vitro development and pregnancy of White-Hanwoo SCNT embryos treated with caffeine (a protein kinase phosphatase inhibitor). As results, the treatment of 10 mM caffeine for 6 h significantly increased MPF activity in bovine oocytes but does not affect the developmental competence to the blastocyst stage in bovine SCNT embryos. However, a significant increase in the mean cell number of blastocysts and the frequency of pregnant on 150 days of White-Hanwoo SCNT embryos produced using caffeine treated cytoplasts was observed. These results indicated that the recipient cytoplast treated with caffeine for a short period prior to reconstruction of SCNT embryos is able to increase the frequency of pregnancy in cow.

        The purpose of this study is to suggest specific ways of designing educational programs for school violence prevention by applying a serious online game in Korea. To do this, first, the authors analyzed literature, programs and cases related to school violence. Second, we derived design principles for serious games from the analysis of current game contents. Finally, we wrote a design process to develop the game. A serious game for school violence prevention was specifically designed based on these design principles and processes. It was applied by registering school violence cases, processing the cases, drawing solution plans, and finishing the game. The game is intended for a game user to be self-taught and self-cured by participating in the solution process of school violence cases.
