Bertolotti’s syndrome is a spinal disorder characterized by abnormal enlargement of the transverse process of the most caudal lumbar vertebra. Pseudoarticulation between the transverse process of L5 and the alar of the sacrum can cause buttock pain and leg pain. A total 50 patients were selected as pure L5 transverse processectomy. The patient’s mean visual analogue scale (VAS) was 7.56±0.89 and postoperative VAS was 3.41±1.84. According to Macnab's criteria, 9 patients showed excellent results, and 27 patients showed good result, 8 patients showed fair, 2 patients showed poor results.

잔디는 운동장과 골프장, 공원, 묘지 등의 다양한 장소에 식재되는 주요 원예작물이다. 국내에 자생하는 한국잔디(Zoysiagrass)로는 들잔디(Zoysia japonica)와 금잔디(Zoysia matrella), 갯잔디(Zoysia sinica) 등이 있다. 주요 원예작물에 대한 대사체 분석은 다양하게 연구가 이루어지고 있지만 아직 잔디의 대사체 성분 분석은 거의 이루어진 바 없다. FTIR(Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy)은 적외선을 통해 얻어지는 sample의 흡광도를 이용하여, 해당 시료의 성분 및 양을 측정할 수 있는 기법으로써, HPLC와 같은 기존의 대사체 분석 방법 보다 쉽고 빠르게 결과를 알 수 있어 최근 다양한 분야에서 사용되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 다년간 수집된 국내 자생 잔디(들잔디, 금잔디, 갯잔디) 약 240점의 FTIR분석을 통해 대사체 수준에서 자생 잔디의 식별체계를 확립하고자 하였다. PCA(principal component analysis)와 PLS-DA(Partial least square discriminant analysis)분석 결과, 갯잔디는 들잔디와 금잔디 라인들과 뚜렷하게 식별되었으며 PCA dendrogram에서도 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 이를 통해 갯잔디의 대사체 성분들이 들잔디와 금잔디와 비교하여 매우 다른 특징을 가지고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 수집지별로 들잔디 라인들의 PCA 분석결과에서는 산악지대와 해안지대에 서식하는 잔디가 식별되는 경향을 보였으며, PLS-DA와 PLS-DA dendrogram 분석결과에서는 두 그룹이 더욱 뚜렷하게 구분되어 서식지에 따른 들잔디의 대사산물의 패턴 차이가 크게 나타남을 확인할 수 있었다.

We studied clinical utility of open door laminoplasty with foraminotomy in CSM with multilevel radiculopathy. We divided into two groups; the first group underwent laminoplasty with formainotomy, and the second group underwent laminoplasty and multiple ant. approaches. In the first group, the JOA score increased from a preoperative 13.3 to postoperative 16.0 (range, 10 to 18), and in the second group from 12.8 to 15.5 (range, 10 to 18). However, the pre-operative VAS score was 6.1, 6.5 and, 2 weeks after surgery, had decreased to 2.4, 1.4, the last score was the same, 1.8, finally. The open door lami-noplasty with foraminotomy was easily performed and clinical profiles were similar to those for the laminoplasty and multi-ple anterior approach.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of tenofovir in HBV patients at 12 months after treatment. A total of 122chronic hepatitis B patients who took tenofovir for at least 12 months were enrolled. We measured ALT levels, HBeAg, anti-HBe, HBV DNA, and serum creatinine at six and 12 months after treatment. The virological response rate at six and 12 months after treatment in naïve patients was 27.1% and 41.7%, respectively. High virological response rate at six and 12months after treatment showed an association with initial low HBV DNA titer and initial negative HBeAg status.

The esophageal mucosal ring, otherwise known as Schatzki’ ring or B ring is a thin, diaphragm like, circumferential mucosal fold that protrudes into the lumen of the gastroesophageal junction. Symptomatic esophageal mucosal ring is found in only 0.5% of patients who undergo an esophagogram. In Korea, symptomatic esophageal mucosal ring of adult is very rare. A 66- year-old man was admitted to the hospital with progressive dysphagia of five months' standing. The endoscopy revealed a mucosal ring with a narrowed esophageal lumen of about 4mm. Herein, we report a case of endoscopic balloon dilatation using controlled radial expansion (CRE) balloon under fluoroscopic control.

The principle of treatment of type 2, 3 odontoid process fracture is controversial. The debate is in regard to which is effective between conservative treatment and surgery. We enrolled 41 patients with type 2, 3 odontoid process fracture from January 2007 to December 2011 at Chosun University Hospital. Patients in Group I (GI) received a halo vest and those in Group II (GII) underwent surgery by ant. screw fixation. The bone fusion was classified according to stable bone union, fibrous union, and unstable non-union. Patients in GI received halo vest for a mean period of 4.9 months and those in GII received a neck collar for a mean period of 3.8 months. Tweleve patients in GI and 17 patients in GII had stable bone union. Three patients in GI and two patients in GII had fibrous union. Five patients in GI and two patients in GII had non-union. The halo vest was a good conservative treatment for type 2, 3 odontoid process fracture : however, low bone fusion rate is a problem in particularly old age. However, ant. screw fixation is a better treatment in regard to short surgical time, short fusion time, and high bone fusion rate.

Demacort® is mixture of betamethasone (high-potency corticosteroid) and clotrimazole (antifungal agent), an inhibitor of CYP3A4, which can inhibit the metabolism of betamethasone. Interaction of these drugs may result in decreased clearance of betamethasone and increased risk for adverse events such as iatrogenic Cushing’s syndrome. A 26-year-old female was admitted to the hospital due to rapid weight gain after application of Demacort®. During a period of one month, she showed weight gain of 30 kg and developed several Cushingoid appearances. The result of an overnight dexamethasone suppression test was negative, thus, endogenous Cushing’s syndrome was ruled out. A negative cortisol response was observed for the rapid ACTH stimulation test; therefore, we made a diagnosis of iatrogenic Cushing’s syndrome combined with additional secondary adrenal insufficiency.
