Canine hyperadrenocorticism, a prevalent endocrine disorder characterized by excessive cortisol production. Notably, hypercoagulability leading to pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) poses a substantial concern. PTE may be underestimated because of the rapid dissolution of canine thrombi postmortem. However, traditional coagulation assays face challenges in early detection of hypercoagulability. Therefore, this study explored the use of thromboelastography (TEG) as a diagnostic tool for identifying hypercoagulability in dogs with hyperadrenocorticism. A total of 31 dogs visited the Gyeongsang Animal Medical Center between 2018 and 2022, comprising 21 dogs with hyperadrenocorticism and 10 controls who underwent clinical and coagulation analyses. Hyperadrenocorticism was diagnosed using a low-dose dexamethasone stimulation test or adrenocorticotropin hormone stimulation test, and conventional laboratory parameters and coagulation parameters, such as the prothrombin time, activated partial thromboplastic time, fibrinogen, and TEG results, were compared between the groups. Clinical data revealed significantly elevated monocyte, platelet, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase, triglyceride, and cholesterol concentrations in dogs with hyperadrenocorticism, which were attributed to excess cortisol secretion (p<0.05). TEG analysis demonstrated significantly decreased K values and increased α and MA values in hyperadrenocorticism dogs (p<0.05), indicating a shortened clotting time and enhanced clot strength, suggestive of hypercoagulability. TEG effectively highlights hypercoagulability in dogs with hyperadrenocorticism and provides valuable insights in predicting blood clot formation. Although predicting clot formation in dogs remains complex owing to multifactorial influences, this study underscores the potential utility of TEG in enhancing such predictions for dogs with hyperadrenocorticism.

Bioindication or biomonitoring can be considered a type of applied ecology. Its primary goal is to use organisms living within natural communities to monitor the impact of disturbance and to use this knowledge in the management of the ecological system. An indicator taxon is one that is of narrow amplitude with respect to one or more environmental factors. When the species is present, it indicates the presence of certain environmental parameters. It Introduces the categories of indicators and introduces representative indicator insect species(e.g., butterflies, Carabid species).
We sequenced 15,803 bp of the leaf-rolling-weevil, Apoderus jekelii (Coleoptera: Attelabidae) mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) that lacked ~8,000 bp of the A+T-rich region for the completion of the genomic sequence. The A. jekelii mitogenome, which includes 1,169 bp of A+T-rich region, possesses typical sets of genes [13 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, and 2 rRNA genes]. Phylogenetic analyses using the eight concatenated PCG sequences, which are commonly available for the mitogenome sequences of Curculionoidea, revealed Attelabidae as monophyletic, as well as the sister relationship between current A. jekelii and congeneric species A. coryli in Attelabidae, with the highest nodal supports both in Bayesian inference and maximum likelihood methods. In order to gain a more comprehensive picture of the phylogenetic relationships among the lineages of Attelabidae, an extended analysis with more taxonomic sampling will be necessary. †These authors contributed equally to this paper.
This study is Antimicrobial activity for bacteriocin produced by Lactobacillus acidophilus. Production of lactacin B was pH dependent, with maximum activity detected in broth cultures maintained pH 6. As a result of the antimicrobial activity against p. acnes in the pH culture, the clear zone was the largest at pH 6 and persisted for a long time.
The effects of cold storage temperature and exposure duration on immature stages of spotted-wing drosophila (SWD) Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae) on ‘Campbell Early’ grapes were examined to establish a phytosanitary control method. The immature stages (eggs, larvae and pupae) of SWD were all dead after a 6-day cold treatment at 1°C and 8-day cold treatment at 1.5 and 2°C. Small-scale tests using pupae, which were the most-cold tolerant stage, confirmed the validity of the selected temperature and exposure durations. Conversely, the 8- and 10-day at 1°C treatments showed 100% mortality, suggesting that these treatments can guarantee quarantine security against infestations of SWD on exported ‘Campbell Early’ grapes.

This study provided cradle structure and illustrations of the subfamily Apoderinae from Korea
The spotted-wing drosophila (SWD), Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae), is an economically damaging pest that feeds on most thin-skinned fruits. In this study, we sequenced portions of the mitochondrial (mt) COI and ND4 genes from a total of 195 individuals collected mainly from Korea. A total of 139 haplotypes were obtained from the concatenated COI and ND4 sequences. A dataset combining GenBank sequences with our own data identified a total of 94 worldwide COI haplotypes with a maximum sequence divergence of 5.433% (32 bp). A rough estimate of genetic diversity in each country showed higher diversity in ancestral distributional ranges, but the invasion over Asian countries seems to have been substantial because haplotype diversity was only 2.35-3.97-fold lower in the USA, Canada, and Italy than that in the populations ancestral ranges.

This study investigated the Texture Profile Analysis and Sensory characteristics analysis of 6 different Pork Meat-substituted Soybean Curd (PMSC) products with different gluten-fiber (GF) contentst. PMSC types were PMSC-GF 5%, PMSC-GF 10%, PMSC-GF 15%, PMSC-GF 20%, PMSC-GF 25%, and PMSC-GF 30%. The lightness (ΔL value) of cooked PMSC was decreased, whereas the redness (Δa value) and yellowness (Δb value) of cooked PMSC was not changed. Texturometer (TA XT Plus, England) was used for objective test and hardness, springiness, cohesiveness and chewiness of sensory characteristics were measured. PMSC with GF 5% to 15% were characterized high hardness score but PMSC with GF 20% to 30% were not significantly different. PMSC-GF 30% was the highest score in springiness and PMSC-GF 5% was the lowest. PMSC-GF 25% and 30% were high cohesiveness score but was not significantly different (p<0.05). Fourteen sensory descriptors were developed to evaluate the sensory characteristics of PMSC. The sensory characteristics of PMSC were sweetness, saltiness, springiness, hardness, chewiness, meat flavor, odor, loose particle and so on. Six different PMSC showed no significant difference in the attributes of loose particle. But PMSC-GF 5% and PMSC-GF 10% showed significant difference in the attributes of hardness. PMSC-GF 25% and PMSC-GF 30% showed no significant difference in the attributes of hardness. PMSC-GF 30% was the highest springiness score and PMSC-GF 5%, PMSC-GF 10% and PMSC-GF 15% showed no significant difference in the attributes of springiness. Overall consumer acceptance was surveyed. PMSC-GF 5%, PMSC-GF 10% and PMSC-GF 15% showed no significant difference in the attributes of color. PMSC-GF 25% and PMSC-GF 30% was the highest in the attributes of springiness and high moistureness, taste acceptance and overall acceptance. PMSC-GF 5%, PMSC-GF 10% and PMSC-GF 15% showed no significant difference in overall consumer preference but PMSC-GF 25% and PMSCGF 30% showed significant difference. Consequently it is indicated that texture of cooked PMSC-GF 25% and PMSC-GF 30% is very important sensory characteristics.
Apristus Chaudoir is one of the genera in the tribe Lebiini Bonelli (Coleoptera: Carabidae). This genus is morphologically similar to Anomotarus and Syntomus of Lebiini. However, Apristus can be distinguished from the other genera by having a combination of the following characteristics: basal pronotum with distinct posterior angles in dorsal view; tarsal claws smooth without denticulate or pectinate. A total of 61 species of Apristus are distributed worldwide and only one species, Apristus striatus Motschulsky has been known in the Korean peninsula. As results of taxonomic studies on Korean Apristus species, we discovered a newly recorded species, Apristus cuprascens Bates of Apristus. A key to the Korean Apristus species, photographs of diagnostic characteristics and illustrations of male genitalia are provided.
The spotted-wing drosophila (SWD), Drosophila suzukii (Diptera: Drosophilidae), originally distributed across a few Asian countries, including South Korea, has invaded North America and Europe, but is absent from Australia. In order to export the South Korean grape cultivar Campbell Early to Australia, its potential to serve as oviposition and development medium for SWD must first be determined. In this study, we determined the oviposition and development potential of SWD on Campbell Early, after elucidating the SWD life cycle and establishing an artificial diet-based mass-culturing system. An investigation of the life cycle under five temperature regimes (16, 19, 22, 25, and 28°C) showed that the durations of the egg, larval, and adult stages were shorten when temperature was increased from 16, 19, 22, 25, and 28°C, but pupal duration was shortest at 25°C and extended again at 28°C. A test of oviposition and development potential of SWD on Campbell Early grape clusters showed oviposition of 30.8 ± 6.8 eggs per cluster of injured grapes and 157.7 ± 16.2 eggs on a culture dish of artificial diet. However, in a similar experiment using uninjured grape clusters, only a single egg was deposited on the grape skin, which soon dried. In light of these results, newly harvested grapes left at vineyards during daily harvests are unlikely to serve as an oviposition and development medium for SWD, as long as the grapes remain uninjured.
