Education reform is being deployed in Vietnam in the direction of developing learner’s competencies in which integrated teaching is viewed as a practical, effective way to achieve educational goals. However, Vietnamese teachers are not familiar with integrated teaching. Therefore, instructing teachers in how to design integrated lessons and how to implement integrated teaching is necessary and meaningful. This article presents some measures to help teachers design and teach integration in Mathematics.
The traditional writing of the Vietnamese nation – Nom characters – is a kind of “Sino style” (or so called “Chinese-character-shaped”) “square-shaped” writing system. For more than 100 years, many Vietnamese and foreign scholars have been interested in this writing, discussing and engaging in studying it from different angles. Starting from the philology point of view, the author tries to reveal the issues surrounding “Nom character” studies. They can be attributed to three big topics: 1. The origin of Nom characters and how it became a writing system lasting throughout different historical periods; 2. The internal structures of Nom characters and their evolution; 3. Different stages of Vietnamese philology and the social functions of “Nom characters”. This paper is going to discuss the above-mentioned topics, at the same time as introducing some of the authors’ observations on these topics as references for colleagues.
Effect of dispersion methods for Vapor Grown Carbon Fibers (VGCF) in epoxy caused the change in mechanical properties of VGCF/epoxy nanocomposites, such as tensile modulus and tensile strength. The influence of VGCF types - atmospheric plasma treated (APT) VGCF and raw VGCF - and their contents was discussed in detail. Treating VGCF with atmospheric plasma enhanced the surface energy, therefore improved the bonding strength with epoxy matrix. Two different methods used to disperse VGCF were ultrasonic and mechanical homogenizer methods. When using dispersion solutions, the VGCF demonstrated good dispersion in ethanol in both homogenizer and ultrasonic method. The uniform dispersion of VGCF was investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) which showed well-dispersion of VGCF in epoxy matrix. The tensile modulus of raw VGCF/epoxy nanocomposites obtained by ultrasonic method was higher than that of one obtained by homogenizer method. APT VGCF/epoxy nanocomposites showed higher tensile strength than that of raw VGCF/epoxy nanocomposites.
In this study, bottom-up type powder processing and top-down type SPD (severe plastic deformation) approaches were combined in order to achieve full density of Carbon nanotube (CNT)/metal matrix composites with superior mechanical properties by improved particle bonding and least grain growth, which were considered as a bottle neck of the bottom-up method using the conventional powder metallurgy of compaction and sintering. ECAP (equal channel angular pressing), the most promising method in SPD, was used for the CNT/Cu powder consolidation. The powder ECAP processing with 1, 2, 4 and 8 route C passes was conducted at room temperature.
This study explores whether the implementation of sustainability disclosure can trigger or stimulate the change in the roles of management accountants in adopting organizations in Vietnam as business partners. To do so, it explores the roles of management accountants in integrated reporting (IR) adopting organizations and sustainability reporting (SR) adopting organizations based on the use of the pragmatic constructivism (PC) theoretical framework. In addition, qualitative semi-structured interviews were used to provide an in-depth investigation of management accountants’ work in both IR and SR adopting organizations. The empirical findings suggest that the adoption of the IR framework has triggered changes in management accountant roles toward the new business partner roles to support the decision-making process within their organizations. On the other hand, management accountants from SR adopting organizations still work as traditional “bean-counter” roles. Our paper concludes by indicating several propositions based on our empirical findings that can be tested by future researchers from the domain by collecting relevant data. Our study can be seen as a response to the recent call for a more in-depth examination of the practice of sustainability disclosure from the practitioners’ perspectives in adopting organizations.
The study investigates the asymmetric effect of exchange rate changes on stock prices in Vietnam. We use the nonlinear autoregressivedistributed lag (ARDL) analysis for monthly data from 2001:01 to 2018:05, based on VN-Index stock price collected from Ho Chi Minh Stock Exchange (HOSE); the nominal exchange rate is separated into currency depreciation and appreciation through a partial sum decomposition process. Asymmetry is estimated both in the long-run relationship and the short-run error correction mechanism. The research results show that the effect of exchange rate changes on stock prices is asymmetrical, both in the short run and in long run. Accordingly, the stock prices react to different levels to depreciation and appreciation. However, the currency appreciation affects a stronger transmission of stock prices when compared to the long-run currency depreciation. In the absence of asymmetry, the exchange rate only has a short-run impact on stock prices. This implies a symmetrical assumption that underestimates the impact of exchange rate changes on stock prices in Vietnam. This study points to an important implication for regulators in Vietnam. They should consider the relationship between exchange rate changes and stock prices in both the long run and the short run to manage the stock and foreign exchange market.
The study examines the influence of factors on customer satisfaction in hotel services in Thanh Hoa province of Vietnam. In terms of the tangible facilities of hotels, customers appreciate the availability and the full range of equipment and additional services, as the 3-to-5-star hotels in Thanh Hoa province are almost new, built in the last five years – 7 of 13 hotels were built in 2015. In the process of measuring the effect of factors on satisfaction in hotel services there, the researchers conducted exploratory factor analysis, reliability test, correlation and regression to confirm the relationships of factors. Based on a survey of 380 respondents, the test results showed that the proposed factors have positive impacts on consumer satisfaction; they are: perceived quality (including intangible and tangible elements), brand image, perceived value, and customer relationship management. In particular, intangible elements have the strongest influence on customer satisfaction, followed by tangible elements, brand image, perceived value, and finally, customer relationship management. In addition, the study found that foreigners and higher education customers tend to be more satisfied by the hotels than other groups, which helps to suggest important and appropriate solutions for hotel managers in Thanh Hoa province.

Furthermore, the research results of the article are references for Vinacomin’ enterprises in the course of production and business activities, determining a reasonable debt ratio, and improving the operational performance of enterprises.
This study aims to develop a research framework to investigate the factors affecting organizational commitment among employees who are working in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) enterprises in Vietnam. The authors designed an online survey distributed to employees in FDI enterprises, collecting the data from 312 employees. All scales in this study are adopted from previous studies; tools employed include Cronbach’s Alpha, Exploratory Factor Analysis, and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) to examine the internal consistency, reliability, dimensionality, and validity of each variable. Then, the structural equation modelling (SEM) was utilized in order to estimate path correlations between variables. Results indicate that the leadership style has the strongest effect on organizational commitment, followed by job satisfaction and working performance. Moreover, working performance and job satisfaction are also influenced by leadership style. However, there is no statistical evidence to show that job satisfaction has an impact on working performance. In addition, bootstrapping method is used to show the indirect effect of variables; results reveal that leadership style, though, does not have indirect effect on working performance via job satisfaction, but it indirectly affects organizational commitment throughout working performance. In other words, the study finds that working performance mediates the link between leadership style and organizational commitment.
This objective of this study is to examine the influence of age and gender on entrepreneurship in Vietnam’s context. Although various studies have been conducted to examine age and gender differences in the entrepreneurial process, the results reveal inconsistencies. Moreover, the relationship between different factors and their role in explaining age and gender differences in the entrepreneurship activities still has no clear answer. Our analyses were based on data collected for the 2017 Global Entrepreneurship Monitors (GEM) from individuals located in Vietnam with a sample of 2,118. Our findings show that female entrepreneurs had less household income and were likely to have more fear of failure in starting a business. Entrepreneurs tend to be older and young entrepreneurs have better education. The study also indicated that male entrepreneurs were likely to have more perception of the ease to start a business. Moreover, the number of male respondents who are currently entrepreneurs is higher and they are older. The contribution of this study is twofold. First, it provides empirical evidence on the age and gender differences in entrepreneurship. Second, it contributes to the understanding of the entrepreneurship environment in Vietnam, one of the most dynamic emerging countries in the East Asian region.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the development and determinants of China-ASEAN trade relations over the period of 2000-2018. Employing both the qualitative and quantitative approaches, the results show that the trade relations between China and the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) have remarkably developed and rapidly grown over times, with a significantly important concentration on the segments of high technological and medium technological products. We also find that China’s economic scale is crucially impacting on the China-ASEAN trade relations under both the aggregate and sub-sector level. It is interesting to notice that there is no evidence to support accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and officially forming of ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) to enhance trade relation between both sides. The findings also quantitatively indicate that there is much significant potential for the expansion of mutual trade between China and some members of ASEAN such as Brunei, Laos and Malaysia, while less potential is predicted for other members of ASEAN. It is strongly suggested that China and ASEAN should find a new proactive approach and make more efforts in improving the mutual political trusts to enhance trading activities in the coming years.
This is a quantitative research, underpinned by the philosophy of natural science and deduction approach that examines the impact of the various aspects of corporate governance mechanism on the choice of capital structure of Vietnamese listed firms. We focus on the effect of factors such as the board size, the board independence, and especially different ownership structures, which include the managerial ownership, the state ownership, the concentrated ownership, and the foreign ownership. They are the main scopes of corporate governance and are supposed to be relevant to determine the corporate financing choice. To explain the causal relationship between factors, we construct the regression model and then test it by using different statistical method approaches, including the pooled OLS, the fixed effects model, and the random effects model. Data are collected from 336 firms with shares listed in the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange in Vietnam, totaling 1583 observations. Overall, the results reveal that the board size, state ownership, and concentrated ownership have positive impact on the firm’s capital structure, whereas foreign ownership appears to have negative influence on the capital structure. The research does not find evidence of a the correlation between board independence, managerial ownership and corporate capital struture.
We apply Return Dispersion Model by calculating CSAD (Cross-sectional standard deviation of return) and State Space Model to identify herding behavior in the period of pandemic (H1N1 and COVID-19). Employing data from TEJ and Data Stream, this paper examines whether the herding behavior is existing in Vietnam and Taiwan stock market, especially during pandemic influenza. We compare the differences in herding behavior between frontier and emerging markets by examining different industries across Vietnam and Taiwan stock market approaches. The results indicate solid evidence for investor herd configuration in the various industries of Vietnam and Taiwan. The herding impact in the industries will be greater than with the aggregate market. The different industries respond differently to influenza pandemic panics through uptrend and downtrend demonstrations. Up to 12 industries were found to have herding in Vietnam, while Taiwan had only 5 of 17 industries classified. Taiwan market, an emerging and herding-level market, has changed due to the impact of changing conditions such as epidemics, but not as strongly as in Vietnam. From there, we see that the disease is a factor that, not only creates anxiety from a health perspective, but also causes psychological instability for investors when investing in the market.
This study develops a mediating model to explore the relationships between organizational characteristics, manager’s knowledge, management commitment, user involvement, information quality, and management information system effectiveness in small- and medium-sized enterprises in Vietnam. Adapting scales from previous research, the authors designed questionnaires, which they distributed to respondents in Vietnamese small- and medium-sized enterprises. Also, by employing a meta-analytic path analysis throughout structural equation modelling (SEM) with sample of 356 respondents, authors indicate that organizational characteristics are directly related to management information systems effectiveness. Moreover, manager’s knowledge, user involvement, and information quality show their important roles in the increase of management information system effectiveness, yet management commitment does not indicate a similar role in the growth of management information system effectiveness. Bootstrapping is utilized to discover the meditating role of information quality, illustrating that quality information mediates the linkages between user involvement, organizational characteristics, and management information systems. However, the mediating role of information quality in the relationship between management commitment, manager’s knowledge, and management information systems is not significant. This study contributes to the management information system literature as well as to enhance MIS effects in small and medium-sized enterprises.
This research has four specific objectives: (1) identifying factors that affect customer satisfaction with less than container load (LCL) cargo services of logistics companies in HoChiMinh City (HCMC), (2) measuring the level of impact of the factors, (3) testing the difference in satisfaction among groups of customers with different characteristics in terms of type of business and time of using LCL cargo services, and (4) proposing some management implications to improve the quality of LCL cargo services. Researchers interviewed 210 customers who enjoyed the LCL cargo service in HCMC for at least the last six months, using the convenient sampling method. SPSS 20 was used to analyze the reliability of the scale through the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient, then exploratory factor analysis and multiple linear regression analysis were used. The results identified the six factors that influence positively customer satisfaction of LCL cargo services of logistics companies in HCMC, by decreasing importance: service process, image, resource, price, management, and outcomes. The results show that there is no difference in customer satisfaction with LCL cargo services by types of business as well as time of using services. The research suggests some implications for the management of logistics companies in HCMC to enhance customer satisfaction.
This study attempts to analyze trade flows between Vietnam and China in order to understand the mutual influence of bilateral trade relations. China is a country with the world’s leading economic potential. China and Vietnam are neighboring countries sharing a border of 1,281 km. Trade relations between the two countries are a necessity and, with a right policy, are beneficial to both. Vietnam has a trade deficit with China. This situation is exacerbated by the continuing rise in the gap. Vietnam trade deficit from China was USD12.5 billion in 2010, increasing to USD24 billion in 2018. Data are extracted from the 2015 national input-output tables of Vietnam and China as well as Vietnam Household Living Standard Survey statistics. The research identified 36 sectors of bilateral input-output trade between Vietnam and China. A bilateral output-input model is applied to analyze how final demand and use of input in the production of this country induces output and value added of the other country. The results show that China benefits more from Vietnam’s production and consumption than Vietnam does. Vietnam’s inter-sector structure does not stimulate domestic production due to the absence of supporting products as inputs in the production process.
