        In order to capture the indoor CO2 gas from public indoor spaces, a commercial zeolite(4A) was modified with alkali metals useful for adsorption. The prepared sorbents showed somewhat improved adsorption capacity. A few isotherm models were reviewed to characterize the adsorption mechanism of test sorbents. Sips model was found the most appropriate for low level indoor CO2 adsorption, but revealed a significant error in low pressure regimes and required numerical analysis for quantitative evaluation. Thus, a parameter(qm) in the equation was empirically recorrelated with a operation temperature. As a result, the final model equation including a simple linear function presented less errors for evaluation of the potential capacity of adsorption.

        In this work, graphite nanofibers (GNFs) were prepared by ammonia and heat treatment at temperatures up to 1000℃ to improve its CO2 adsorption capacity. The effects of the heat treatment on the textural properties and surface chemistry of the GNFs were investigated by N2 adsorption isotherms, XRD, and elemental analysis. We found that the chemical properties of GNFs were significantly changed after the ammonia treatment. Mainly amine groups were formed on the GNF surfaces such as lactam groups, pyrrole and pyridines. The GNFs treated at 500℃ showed highest CO2 adsorption capacity of 26.9 mg/g at 273 K in this system.

        The adsorption of Acid Blue 92 onto three low cost and ecofriendly biosorbents viz., cow dung ash, mango stone ash and parthenium leaves ash and commercial activated carbon have discussed in this work. The ash of all the mentioned bio-wastes was prepared in the muffle furnace at 500℃ and all the adsorbents were stored in an air thermostat. Experiments at total dye concentrations of 10~100 mg/L were carried out with a synthetic effluent prepared in the laboratory. The parameters such as pH and dye concentration were varied. Equilibrium adsorption data followed both Langmuir and Freundlich isotherms. The results indicate that cow dung ash, mango stone ash and parthenium leaves ash could be employed as low-cost alternatives to commercial activated carbon in wastewater treatment for the removal of dye.

        In this study, the adsorption of toxic pollutants onto cetyltrimethylammonium kaolin (CTAB-Kaolin) is investigated. The organo-kaolin is synthesized by exchanging cetyltrimethylammonium cations (CTAB) with inorganic ions on the surface of kaolin. The chemical analysis, the structural and textural properties of kaolin and CTAB-kaolin were investigated using elemental analysis, FTIR, SEM and adsorption of nitrogen at -196℃. The kinetic adsorption and adsorption capacity of the organo-kaolin towards o-xylene, phenol and Cu(II) ion from aqueous solution was investigated. The kinetic adsorption data of o-xylene, phenol and Cu(II) are in agreement with a second order model. The equilibrium adsorption data were found to fit Langmuir equation. The uptake of o-xylene and phenol from their aqueous solution by kaolin, CTAB-kaolin and activated carbon proceed via physisorption. The removal of Cu(II) ion from water depends on the surface properties of the adsorbent. Onto kaolin, the Cu(II) ions are adsorbed through cation exchange with Na+. For CTAB-kaolin, Cu(II) ions are mainly adsorbed via electrostatic attraction with the counter ions in the electric double layer (Br-), via ion pairing, Cu(II) ions removal by the activated carbon is probably related to the carbon-oxygen groups particularly those of acid type. The adsorption capacities of CTAB-kaolin for the investigated adsorbates are considerably higher compared with those of unmodified kaolin. However, the adsorption capacities of the activated carbons are by far higher than those determined for CTAB-kaolin.

        세 종류의 산화물(TiO2(아나타제), SiO2(비결정성) 및 Al2O3(비결정성)) 표면에 U(VI)이 흡착될 때 유기산 이 미치는 영향을 연구하였다. 유기산으로는 살리실산과 피콜린산을 사용하였다. 유기산의 존재 여부에 따 라 달라지는 U(VI)의 흡착률 변화를 pH 함수로 측정하였다. 또한 U(VI)의 존재 여부에 따라 달라지는 유기 산의 흡착량을 pH 함수로 측정하였다. TiO2의 경우, 살리실산과 피콜린산이 U(VI)과 수용성 착물을 형성함 으로써 U(VI)의 흡착률을 저하시킨다. SiO2의 경우, 살리실산은 U(VI) 흡착에 영향을 주지 않지만, 피콜린산 은 오히려 U(VI) 흡착을 증가시킨다. 이 현상을 삼성분 표면착물(ternary surface complex) 생성으로 해석하였으며 U(VI) 흡착에 의존하는 피콜린산의 흡착량 변화, 그리고 흡착된 U(VI)의 형광 특성 변화로 이를 확인 하였다. Al2O3의 경우, 살리실산과 피콜린산 모두 U(VI) 흡착과 무관하게 높은 흡착량을 보였으나 U(VI) 흡 착을 감소시키지는 않았다. 따라서 삼성분 표면착물 생성을 배제할 수 없으나 이를 확인하기 위해서는 분광 분석과 같은 추가 연구가 필요하다.

        In this work, the CO2 adsorption behaviors of amine functionalized activated carbons (ACs) were investigated. The surface of ACs was modified with urea, melamine, diethylenetriamine (DETA), pentaethylenehexamine (PEHA), polyethylenimine (PEI), and 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (ATPS). The various surface properties of amine functionalized ACs were characterized by Boehm's method, nitrogen full isotherms, XPS, and TGA analyses. The active ingredients impregnated on the ACs show significant influence on the adsorption for CO2 and its volumes adsorbed on amine functionalized ACs are larger than that on the pristine ACs, which is due to the grafted amine groups of the AC surfaces.

        In this study, porous electrospun carbon fibers were prepared by electrospinning with PAN and MgCl2, as a MgO precursor. MgO was selected as a substrate because of its chemical and thermal stability, no reaction with carbon, and ease of removal after carbonization by dissolving out in acidic solutions. MgCl2 was mixed with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) solution as a precursor of MgO with various weight ratios of MgCl2/PAN. The average diameter of porous electrospun carbon fibers increased from 1.3 to 3 μm, as the MgCl2 to PAN weight ratio increased. During the stabilization step, MgCl2 was hydrolyzed to MgOHCl by heat treatment. At elevated temperature of 823 K for carbonization step, MgOHCl was decomposed to MgO. Specific surface area and pore structure of prepared electrospun carbon fibers were decided by weight ratio of MgCl2/PAN. The amount of hydrogen storage increased with increase of specific surface area and micropore volume of prepared electrospun carbon fibers.

        Among other filters such as light filter, wave filter, air filter, ultra filter and filter paper, a novel adsorption filter from thermostable polyester nonwoven fabrics immobilized with functional super activated carbon by means of quinoline soluble, activateable isotropic pitch binder were developed in this study. The activated carbon precursor is available in the market branded as coconut shell based activated carbon(CCS-AC) produced by Dongyang Carbon Co. Ltd. BET-surface area of this precursor was 1,355 m2/g, after KOH-activation it increased over 2,970 m2/g and was named as super activated carbon. In the preliminary research, this precursor was impregnated with PdCl2(0.188 wt%) KMnO4(3 wt%) and redox-agent(CuCl2, 0.577 wt%) in order to promote TOF up to 100/h and Selectivity up 99% and patented as a functional AC for the ethylene adsorption. The enhancement of the isotropic pitch binder to the AC-immobilized adsorption filter was BET-surface area upgraded by 266 m2/g and promoted the Iodine- and MB-adsorption by 1.4 times, respectively and also micro pore wide ranges 〈 5a~30 a 〉.

        본 연구에서는 고도정수처리를 위하여 모듈 내부와 관형 세라믹 정밀여과막 외부 사이의 공간에 입상 활성탄(GAC)을 충전한 혼성 모듈을 사용하였다. 정수 원수 중의 자연산 유기물(NOM)과 미세 무기 입자를 대체하기 위해, 휴믹산(humic acid)과 카올린(kaolin) 모사용액을 대상으로 하였다. 혼성공정에서 막오염을 최소화하고 투과선속(J)을 향상시키기 위하여 10분 주기로 10초 동안 질소 역세척을 시행하였다. 그 결과, 휴믹산의 농도가 10 mg/L부터 2 mg/L로 단계적으로 변화시킴에 따라 막오염에 의한 저항(Rf)이 감소하고 J가 증가하여 2 mg/L에서 가장 높은 총여과부피(VT)를 얻을 수 있었다. 한편, 탁도 및 UV254 흡광도의 처리효율은 각각 99.36% 및 97.19% 이상으로 우수하였으나, 휴믹산의 농도 10 mg/L에서 활성탄 주입 없이 정밀여과 단독으로 UV254 흡광도의 처리효율은 90.84%로 다소 감소하였다.

        Recently, functional building materials have been developed and introduced to the market. Many building materials emit volatile organic compounds(VOCs) which have the potential to affect health and comfort, and moisture problem has a major role also being established in indoor air quality (1AQ) problems. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the performance of reduction of HCHO using the gupsum board and water vapour adsorption/desorption property for ceiling board for mock-up test room and test house. The mock-up test is conducted according environmental standard method for indoor air quality of the ministry of environment. The results of this study are as follows, the reduction of HCHO gypsum boards are showed an effect to reduce the formaldehyde(HCHO) concentration of mock-up test room and test house. The indoor humidity is also showed to be lower than the general ceiling materials, since there is increased in the absorbed indoor humidity by using a humidifier with moisture adsorption/desorption ceiling materials. In natural conditions, moisture adsorption/desorption ceiling materials is showed a higher humidity than general ceiling materials constructed in the mock-up test room. However It changes of moisture adsorption/desorption is not appeared in test house. Therefore, in case of decreasing and increasing in humidity, these materials can be offset by reduction of HCHO using the gypsum board.

        Study on the removal of Acid Green 20 by adsorption on indigenously prepared activated carbons from cow dung, mango stone, parthenium leaves and commercial activated carbon have been carried out with an aim to obtain information on treating effluents from tanneries. The effects of various experimental parameters have been investigated by following the batch adsorption technique. Adsorption data was modeled with the Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. Removal of Acid Green 20 was found to be favorable using Biomass ash and could be considered as alternatives to commercial activated carbon for the treatment of tannery effluents, especially for the removal of dye(s).

        흑목이 버섯의 자실체로부터 열수추출에 의해 흑갈색 색소를 함유한 조다당(crude polysaccharide)을 분획하였고, 이 조다당 분획의 흑갈색 색소 성분을 탈색 제거하기 위해 활성탄을 이용한 흡착공정을 검토하였다. 흡착 평형은 10분 이내의 빠른 시간에 도달하였으며, 최적의 흡착 조건은 pH 7.0 및 온도 40oC에서 조다당 용액 1 mL당 활성탄 16.7 mg을 첨가하였을 때 얻어졌다. 이 때의 최대 흡착효율은 약 80%이었고, 색소 성분의 제거로 다당은 정제되어 1.25배의 정제율을 나타내었다. 한편, 활성탄에 의한 색소의 등온흡착은 Langmuir 등온식에 따랐으며, 흡착속도는 2nd order model 식으로 나타낼 수 있었다. 또, 흡착은 확산을 통해 조절되는 물리적 흡착공정인 것으로 나타났다. 흑목이 버섯 조다당으로부터의 활성탄에 의한 색소흡착 공정은 그동안 보고된 바 없으며, 경제적이고 간편하여 향후 흑목이 버섯 조다당의 색소 제거와 정제 및 이에 의한 다당 정제공정으로서의 가능성이 있는 것으로 판단하였다.

        The adsorption of phenolic compound resorcinol on activated carbons prepared from Moringa oleifera (Drumstick bark) has been investigated. Activated carbon was prepared by impregnating Moringa oleifera with 50% phosphoric acid in the ratio of 1:1 and 1:2(w/w), designated as MOAC1 and MOAC2. Equilibrium and isotherm studies were carried out. The influences of variables such as contact time, initial concentration of resorcinol, carbon dosage in the solution on percentage adsorption and adsorption capacity of the bark have been analysed. The equilibration time was found to be 4 h. Kinetics of resorcinol onto activated carbons was checked for pseudo first order and pseudo second order model. It was found that the adsorption of resorcinol follows pseudo second order kinetics for both MOAC1 and MOAC2. The isotherm data were correlated with isotherm models, namely Langmuir and Freundlich. Adsorption isotherms were satisfactorily fitted by both the Langmuir and Freundlich model for MOAC1 and MOAC2.

        본 연구에서는 고도정수처리를 위하여 모듈 내부와 관형 세라믹 정밀여과막 외부 사이의 공간에 입상 활성탄(GAC)을 충전한 혼성 모듈을 사용하였다. 정수 원수 중의 자연산 유기물(NOM)과 미세 무기 입자를 대체하기 위해, 휴믹산(humic acid)과 카올린(kaolin) 모사용액을 대상으로 하였다. 혼성공정에서 막오염을 최소화하고 투과선속(J)을 향상시키기 위하여 역세척 시간(BT)과 역세척 주기(FT)에 따른 영향을 알아보았으며, 최적운전조건을 규명하고자 하였다. 그 결과, BT가 증가함에 따라 Rf 다소 감소하는 경향을 보였으며, 더 짧은 FT는 빈번한 역세척으로 Rf의 감소와 J의 향상에 더 효과적이었다. 그러나 운전비용을 고려하였을 때, 최적 BT 및 FT는 각각 10초와 8분이었다. 한편, 모사용액으로 실험하여 도출된 최적 운전조건을 호소수의 고도정수처리에 적용하였다. 그 결과, 탁도 및 UV254 흡광도, CODMn의 평균처리효율은 각각 99.11% 및 91.40%, 89.34%로 우수하였으나, TDS의 평균처리효율은 30.05%로 낮았다.

        본 연구에서는 관형보다 단위시간당 투과량이 월등히 많은 다채널 세라믹 분리막을 사용하였으며, 고도정수처리 혼성공정은 모듈 내부와 다채널 정밀여과막 외부 사의의 공간에 입상활성탄(GAC)을 충전하여 구성하였다. 정수 원수 중의 자연산 유기물(NOM)과 미세 무기 입자를 대체하기 위해, 휴믹산(humic acid)과 카올린(kaolin) 모사용액을 사용하였다. 유기물질의 영향을 살펴보기 위해 일정한 30mg/L의 카올린 농도에서 휴믹산(humic acid)의 농도를 2~10 mg/L로 변화시켰다. 그 결과, 막오염의 저항(Rf)과 투과선속(J)은 휴믹산의 농도에 따라 큰 영향을 받았다. 또한 역세척 주기(FT)의 영향을 살펴본 결과, 더 짧은 FT는 빈번한 역세척으로 막오염의 감소와 투과선속의 향상에 더 효과적이었다. 그러나 운전비용을 고려하면, 최적 FT조건은 8분이였다. 한편, 이 다채널 정밀여과막 및 GAC 혼성공정을 호소수에 적용한 결과, 평균 처리효율은 탁도 98.02%, UV254 흡괌도 75.64%, 총용존고형물(TDS) 7.18%, 화학적산소요구량 84.73%이었다.

        In this work, pellet type sorbents were prepared to control the low level indoor carbon dioxide with various physical compositions. In order to enhance the adsorption capacity, a few additives including alkali hydroxides were added to a commercial zeolitic sorbent by impregnation of alkali cation - Ca2+ through physical mixing and ion exchange. It was found that the binding materials such as dextrin or bentonite facilitating to form the granular sorbents would assist the adsorption capacity of sorbents. The ion exchange was more efficient for impregnation of alkalies, which showed better adsorption of gaseous CO2.

        전기방사법을 이용하여 제조된 pelyestersulfone (PES)-bovin albumin serum (BSA) 친화막에 대하여 L-tryptophan에 대한 흡착특성을 연구하였다. FESEM과 Image Analyzer를 이용하여 방사조건에 따른 섬유의 직경분포를 비교분석 함으로써 섬유의 직경을 조절할 수 있음을 알았다. 또한, 2,2,3,4,4,4-Hexafluoro-1-butanol (HFB)와 BSA의 함량증가에 따른 미세섬유 발생빈도가 높아져서 Darcy 투과도, 기계적 물성, 발수성이 증가한다는 것을 알았다. L-tryptophan의 용출량은 tris-HCl 완충용액보다 borate-DMSO 완충용액에서 높았으며, A 8022형 BSA보다 A 7906형 BSA가 높은 용출량을 보였다. 이러한 결과는 BSA의 종류에 따른 그 특성에 기인하는 것으로 A 7906형은 A 8022형보다 순도가 높고 분자량 분포가 고르며, 사용 pH 환경이 더욱 안정적이기 때문이다.

        The objective of this work is to study the feasibility of the preparation of the activated carbon (AC) from coconut tree flowers using high temperature fluidized bed reactor (HTFBR). The activating agent used in this work is steam. The reactor was operated at various activation temperature (650, 700, 750, 800 and 850℃) and activation time (30, 60, 120 and 240 min) for the production of AC from coconut tree flowers. Effect of activation time and activation temperature on the quality of the AC preparation was observed. Prepared AC was characterized in-terms of iodine number, methylene blue number, methyl violet number, ethylene glycol mono ethyl ether (EGME) surface area and SEM photographs. The best quality of AC from coconut tree flowers (CFC) was obtained at an activation temperature and time of 850℃ and 1 hr restectively. The effectiveness of carbon prepared from coconut tree flowers in adsorbing crystal violet from aqueous solution has been studied as a function of agitation time, carbon dosage, and pH. The adsorption of crystal violet onto AC followed second order kinetic model. Adsorption data were modeled using both Langmuir and Freundlich classical adsorption isotherms. The adsorption capacity qm was 277.78 mg/g., equilibrium time was found to be 180 min. This adsorbent from coconut tree flowers was found to be effective for the removal of CV dye.

        전기방사를 이용하여 polyethersulfone (PES)-bovin albumin serum (BSA) 단백질 친화막을 제조하였으며, 이때 전기방사에 의한 공정상의 문제점을 용해도가 높고, 끓는점이 높은 2,2,3,4,4,4-Hexafluoro-1-butanol (HFB)를 공용매로 사용함으로써 해결하였다. 또한 공용매는 최적의 온도, 습도 범위를 확대시켜줌으로써 친화막의 대량 생산이 용이하리라 생각한다. 제조된 친화막은 biuret test를 통하여 친화막의 색깔이 무색에서 보라색으로 변함으로써 PES 섬유 내 BSA가 존재함을 확인할 수 있었다. 완충용액의 조성 성분 중 dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)는 세척과정에서 BSA와 L-tryptophan사이의 해리를 제어함으로써 용출과정에서 비교실험보다 약 5배의 높은 용출량을 보여주었다.
