        Spotted wing drosophila, Drosophila suzukii, is an important pest of grape and strawberry because it lays egg inside fruit by damaging fruit surface. Recently, D. suzukii has been widely spreaded and causes several problems, so many countries include Australia designated D. suzukii as an important quarantine pest. Because of this, Korean farmers have trouble to export strawberry. In this study, we tested ethyl formate and phosphine to control D. suzukii, and also tested concurrent treatment of ethyl formate and phosphine to reduce phytotoxicity and enhance efficacy. When treated 35g/m3 of ethyl formate for 4 hours, mortality of egg, larvae, pupae and adult stages of D. suzukii was 22.2%, 21.1%, 19.2% and 28.3%, respectively. When treated 1g/m3 of phosphine for 24 hours, all stages of D. suzukii was completely controlled, but caused phytotoxic effect on strawberry. When treated with 35g/m3 of ethyl formate and 1g/m3 of phosphine concurrently for 4 hours, efficacy has been increased with less phytotoxicity than separate treatment. This result indicates that concurrent treatment enhanced efficacy with less phytotoxicity.

        This study investigated the fumigant activity of phosphine (PH3) on 2 kinds of mealybug (Pseudococcus longispinus and P. orchidicola (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae)) adults and nymphs. All of the two mealybugs adults showed higher LCT99 values than nymphs, and P. longispinus showed higher tolerance than P. orchidicola in a 12 L desiccator. The absorption of phosphine on 13 nursery plants showed 12.2~41.5% difference depending on the plant. All of the mealybugs treated with phosphine 2 mg/L in 0.5 m3 fumigation chamber for 4 h showed 100% fumigant activity, except P. longispinus adult (approximately 90% at bottom part). However, when the exposure time was increased to 24 h, all of them showed 100% mortality. In the treatment of 10 m3 container, the 24 h treatment of phosphine showed 100% mortality to P. longispinus and P. orchidicola adults and nymphs. In all the experiments, no phytotoxicity of phosphine observed on 13 plants until 1 month after treatment.

        A combination using phosphine (PH3) and ethyl formate (EF) was performed to compensate for the disadventages (long exposure time and phytotoxicity) of a single substance. P. longisipinus was more susceptible to mixed phosphine and ethyl formate than P. orchidicola in 12 L dessicator. Mortality of mixed treatment was higher than aggregated mortalities that treated individually, so it indicated to have a synergic effect on each other. Ethyl formate was showed higher adsorption rate than phosphine on imported nursery plants and showed differences depending on the plant. P. longispinus and P. orchidicola was showed 100% mortality when phosphine and ethyl formate was treated as 1 g/m3 and 30 g/m3 for 4 hour in 0.5 m3 fumigation chamber and in 10 m3 container. Phytotoxicity was evaluated to mixture of phosphine and ethyl formate at 1 month after treatment.

        Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata, is one of the most important quarantine pest worldwide. Fruit flies cause serious damage on orchard, and also can cause quarantine problem to fruit exportation. Recently, because of global warming, there is threats of fruit fly invasion to Korea, especially to Jeju island. So there should be a anticipative research about fruit fly control. Many physical quarantine treatment methods, like heat treatment and low-temperature treatment, are developed to control quarantine pests. Recent researches indicate that low-temperature treatment shows good efficacy on several quarantine pests without phytotoxicity. In this trial, we’ve applied the low-temperature treatment on citrus at laboratory and pilot scale containers to validate efficacy and phytotoxicity. Egg and larvae stage of C. capitata was completely controlled after 5 days and 8 days low-temperature treatment at 0℃ respectively, and there was no phytotoxicity on citrus. These results indicate that the low-temperature treatment can be applied to control fruit fly on citrus fruit.

        Fumigation activity of Frankliniella occidentalis, western flower thrips, and phytotoxicity were evaluated with phosphine(PH3) and ethyl formate (EF) in the asparagus. Fumigation activity of PH3 and EF showed in the order of egg (64.7 mg·h/Land 132.9 mg·h/L), nymph (5.5 mg·h/L and 14.8 mg·h/L), and adult (3.8 mg·h/L and 14.7 mg·h/L) respectively at 5˚C in12 L desiccator. The adsorption of PH3 was 24% at 5˚C. However, the adsorption of EF increased sharply to 98% at 5˚C.PH3 showed 100% control for all development stage of F. occidentalis with 4g/m3 in 0.65m3 at 2˚C for 48h exposure. Thephytotoxicity was not found. The results revealed that the EF is highly absorbable in asparagus, so it is not suitable as afumigant, but PH3 is considered to be suitable as an alternative MB fumigant for control of the F. occidentalis in asparagus.

        Ethyl formate (EF) and phosphine (PH3) is an alternative fumigant to methyl bromide (MB). For applying import sweet pumpkins in Korea, the efficacy of EF and PH3 was evaluated on Tetranychus urticae adult and egg stage which is pest in sweet pumpkins. The eggs of T. urticae were more tolerance than adults in both EF and PH3. When T. urticae eggs were treated with EF for 4 hrs, LCT99=107.63 mg/L and LCT99=45.37 mg/L at 5°C and 20°C, respectively. PH3 treatment at 5°C and 20°C for 24 hrs, eggs were controlled LCT99=49.44 mg/L and LCT99=17.23 mg/L, respectively. The mixed treatment of EF and PH3 showed no significant synergistic effect on T. urticae. However, EF (80 mg/L) and PH3 (4 mg/L) treatment did not cause any external phytotoxicity damages in sweet pumpkin even when treated with the maximum amount of fumigant at 5℃ and 20℃ for 24hrs.

        Ethyl formate (EF) and phosphine (PH3) is an alternative fumigant to methyl bromide (MB). The egg, nymph, and adult stages of Frankliniella occidentalis in asparagus were examined for the fumigation activity of EF and PH3. The eggs of F. occidentalis were more tolerance than other stages (adults and nymphs) in both EF and PH3. When the EF was treated for 4 hrs at 5℃ and 20℃, the eggs of F. occidentalis were LCT99=98.70 mg/L and LCT99=61.13 mg/L, and adults were LCT99=11.50 mg/L and LCT99=3.18 mg/L, respectively. However, at 5℃ and 20℃, the eggs were LCT99=83.76 mg/L and LCT99=53.6 mg/L, and adults were LCT99=4.58 mg/L and LCT99=3.44 mg/L, respectively for 4 hrs treatment of PH3. The PH3 was not any external phytotoxic damages at the maximum dose (4 mg/L), but the EF caused significant phytotoxicity in asparagus.

        The effects of some essential oils and Sopophora extract on Frankliniella occidentalis adults, Myzus persicae adults, Plutella xylostella larvae, and Spodoptera exigua larvae were investigated. Insecticidal and phytotoxicity activities of emulsion in water formulations containing the active essential oils as active ingredients under laboratory and pot conditions were also tested. Based on these results, NRS-13 and NRS-24 formulations were selected to further assess as follows; the GC and GC-MS analysis on the active essential oils, the quantity analysis of the major components contained in the formulations, their insecticidal activities under pot and field conditions, and their oral, dermal, skin and eye irritation, and fish toxicities. Thus, the NRS-13 (BaechooSaferTM) and NRS-24 (JindiOutTM) formulations could be considered as insecticides for pest control.

        식물체 내에서 HPPD(4-hydroxy phenylpyruvate dioxyge-nase)를 저해하여 카로티노이드 생합성을 억제하는 제초제benzobicyclon 및mesotrione+pretilachlor의 처리 약량에 따른통일형 벼의 약해 발생 정도와 약해발생에 따른 수량영향을조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. Benzobicyclon과 mesotrione+pretilachlor(MP) 처리 후6~12일에 통일형 벼인 한아름벼, 한아름2호, 다산벼는 모두잎의 백화약해 증상이 나타났고, 기준량 처리시 약해는 각각34~64%, 63~75%이었으며, 배량 처리에서는 약해발생이 더심해 각각 76~83%, 83~89% 이었다. 또한 벼식물체는 기준량 처리시 고사되지 않았으나 배량 처리시 식물체 고사율은benzobicyclon은 6.5~11.5%로 MP 2.1~3.3% 보다 고사율이 높았다.2. 출수기는 benzobicyclon 및 mesotrione+pretilachlor처리에 따른 약해로 대조인 butachlor 처리보다 1~2일 지연되었다.3. Benzobicyclon과 mesotrione+pretilachlor 처리시 통일형 벼 생육은 butachlor 처리에 비해 한아름벼, 한아름2호 및 다산벼 모두 기준량 처리시 m2 당 수수가 14~67개가 적고 등숙비율이 2.7~8.6% 낮아져으며 현미천립중이 0.0~1.2g 가벼웠다.4. Benzobicyclon과 mesotrione+pretilachlor 처리시 쌀 수량은 대조인 butachlor처리의 644~725kg/10a에 비해 한아름벼는 5~9%, 한아름2호와 다산벼는 5~8% 감소되었고, 2배량 처리시 수량감소는 더욱 증가하여 한아름벼는 16~28%,한아름2호는 20~24%, 다산벼는 14~23% 감소하였다.

        초 록 신규 설충성물질 개발의 전제조건이 되는 용매의 선택을 위하여, 아세톤의 9종의 유기용매를 수종의 곤충에 대한 독성과 식이식물 및 화합물의 용해성에 미치는 영향을 엽침지법과 분무법으로 평가하였다. 각종 용매의 공시충에 대한 치사독성과 용매의 이화학적인 성질과는 뚜렷한 상관관계가 보이지는 않았으나, 분무법 처리시 벼멸구의 경우 밀도가 높을수록, 배추좀나방의 경우에는 증기압이 낮을수록 공시충에 대한 치사독성이 높았으나, 비등점, 쌍극자모멘트, 유전율, 표면장력, 점도와는 상관관계를 보이지 않았다. 처리 방법에 있어서는 분무처리가 엽침지법보다 더 높은 치사독성을 나타내었다. 약해와 용매의 이화학적 성상 역시 명확한 상관관계를 보이지 않았으나, 엽침지법의 경우 수도에 있어서 유전율이 낮을수록 약해가 심하였으며, 분무법 처리시에는 쌍극자 모멘트가 높을수록 약해가 심하였으나 기타의 이화학적 성상과는 상관관계를 보이지 않았다. 엽침지처리가 분무처리에 비하여 강한 약해를 유발하였다. 합성 화합물과 식물체 메탄올 추출물은 아세톤에 대한 용해성이 양호하여 생물검정시 5% 아세톤수용액이 다량의 화합물을 검정하는데 적합하였다.

        1. 수도 내도열병품종의 다수재배 기술의 보급으로 잎집무늬마름병의 발생은 7월초로 크게 한기화되었음으로 약제방제적기도 7월상순 부터 8월상순 까지로 과거보다 일 앞당길 것이 불가피하다. 2, 잎집무늬마름병의 방제는 발병 초기일수록 효과적 임으로 7월초의 발병초기와 7월하순 이후의 발생최성기의 2회 약제시용은필수적이며 발생 후기인 8월 중, 하순 이후의 실기방제는 비경제적이다. 3. MAFe제은 강력한 예방과 고도의 치료효과를 겸유하고 있으며 다른 유기비소제와는 달리 품종과 시용 시기 및 부에 따른 약해도 안전하며, 수도용 타살균약나 살충제와의 혼용 사용에도 유리하다. 4. 작물중의 유기비소의 함유량은 현미중에는 평균 0.2ppm에서 0.65ppm 이하 임으로 농수산부의 정적 허용기준인 3.5ppm에는 크게 미달하나, 년중 4회하상의 과용이나 출수기 이후의 시용은 지양 할 필요가 있다. 5. 잎집무늬마름병 방제면적은 최근 수배로 급증되어 이에 따른 농약 소요량은 1973년의 약 10배이며, 공급액으로는 격증되고 있는데 ha 당 농약대는 약종에 따라 배의 차이가 있이 200ha당 전방면적에 소요되는 농약대도 10억원 이하에서 120억원 이상으로 큰 차이가 있으니 미 생산비와 농민부담을 경감하기 위해서도 MAFe 제의 공급은 부득기하다. 6. MAFe제(네오아소진 액제, 분제)는 다른 유기비소제와는 달리 적기 적량 시용으로 약효와 경제성이 항생제를 우월할 뿐아니라 약해와 독성에 안전하며, 토양 및 작물중의 잔류도 문제시되지 않음이 확인되었음으로, 수도 병해충 동시방제를 위한 혼합제 개발과 저항 또는 공동방제에의 적극적이용이 기대되며 현행의 농약안정사용기준 이상의 규제는 불필요하다. 시흥군서면지역은 앞으로의 축적상태를 단속하여 구명할 필요가 있다고 본다.으키지 않았다.) (5) 충영내 유충의 밀도는 약제의 종류, 농도에 따라 현저한 차이가 있었다. Omethoate, Salithion처리에서 충영내 유충밀도가 낮었다. 농도가 낮어짐에 따라 충영당 유충의 밀도가 높아지는 경향을 보였다. 충영내유충의 밀도는 7월 15, 7월 17일 처리에서만 조사 되었는데 처리시기간에는 차이를 인정할 수 없었다. 희석한계는 , 그리고 보존한계는 2 일이었다. 8. 마늘 모자이크 바이러스의 순화는 2회의 분획원심과 Sephadex gel filtration에 의해서 가능했다. 9. 전자현미경하에서 관찰한 마늘 모자이크 바이러스는 길이 1200-1225mu 폭 10-12mu의 사상이었다. 10. 혈청학적 미량침강 반응법에 의해 마늘잎에서뿐만 아니라 인편과 주아에서도 마늘 모자이크 바이러스의 검정이 가능했다. 11. 우리나라 5개 지방에서 수집한 마늘 종구 150개와 주아 30개에 대해 혈청학적방법으로 마늘 모자이크 바이러스의 감염률을 조사한 결과 의 감염률을 보였다. 12. 마늘 모자이크 바이러스와 크기가 근사한 Potato Virus X.         A series of methanol extracts from leaf and root parts in spring- and winter-barley plants were assayed to determine their allelopathy and antioxidant activity. The methanol extracts applied on filter paper in a Petri-dish significantly inhibited root growth of Chinese milkvetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) seedlings. Leaf extracts at 25 and 50 g L-1 inhibited root growth of Chinese milkvetch seedlings more than root extracts. No difference in phytotoxic effects of spring- and winter-barley seedlings extracts on root growth of Chinese milkvetch was observed. Methanol extracts dose-dependently increased DPPH free radical scavenging activity in vitro. DPPH free radical scavenging activity was higher in the methanol extracts from winter-barley seedlings than in those from spring-barley seedlings, and from leaf extracts than from root extracts. The antioxidant potential of the individual fraction from the methanol extracts of spring-barley seedlings was in order of n-butanol>ethyl acetate>water>chloroform>n-hexane fraction. By means of HPLC analysis, spring-barley (200.62 mg 100g-1 ) had more amount of total phenol acid than winter-barley (114.08 mg 100g-1 ). Especially, ferulic acid was detected in spring-barley extract (183.46 mg 100g-1 ) as the greatest amount. These results suggest that early seedlings of barley plants had potent allelopathy and antioxidant activity, and their activities were differently exhibited depending on plant parts and growing condition.

        In order to secure the proper use of herbicides that are frequently used in Korea, the behavior of herbicides in various type of soil were studied. This study includes the variation of phytotoxicity, leaching and movement, and residual activity period of herbicides depending upon the type of soil etc. Experiments were also conducted to establish a guideline for the selection of herbicides according to the type of soil and the proper use of each herbicide in various type of soil in Korea. Experimental results showed that the behavior of herbicides could be characterized based on the series or kind of herbicides and devided into two major groups. One group (nitrofen. CNP, benthiocarb and butachlor) of herbicides showed relatively little crop injury and was very dependable. The action of this group was not remarkably influenced by soil components, rainfall and the quantity of herbicide used with the type of soil that had small adsorption capacity such as most of soil in Korea. The other group(simazine, 2, 4-D. linuron, alachlor and simetryne) showed a wide variation in it's action and retained potentially injurious effect. This group was very susceptable to using condition as well as the type of soil itself. Based on the results of various experiments the disappearance of the residual activity period of major herbicides used in upland and paddy field and the related factors were explained. It is believed that the results of this study can be used as a base for the establishment of a guideline for the proper use of each herbicide and can suggest a direction of developing new herbicides.

        Use of herbicides in Korean agriculture has increased rapidly in recent years accompanying with ever-increasing pressure of farm labor shortage. Herbicides occupied already the second place in the rank of pesticides consumption in 1977. The agricultural experiment stations have carried out over 50 trials of chemical weed control each year since 1968. These research works and registration trials contributed much to the present wide use of herbicides. The pesticide management act amended in 1977 requires reevaluation of pesticides for their efficacy every 5 year-term. However, the development of sound weed control program and recommendations has been hempered very much by the lack of qualified workers of weed control research in agricultural experiment stations and in the institute for pesticide registration trial. Critical review of the past research works on herbicide evaluation and the present status indicates strong need for 1) the characterization of the nature of local and national weed problem, 2) the improvement of ability of the staffs in charge of weed control research through appropriate training on the basics and experimental techniques, and 3) organization and activities of weed control research committee. Furthermore, the present article attempts to clarify commonly misled points in the establishment of herbicide evaluation plan, in the design and execution of field trials, and in the assessment of trial results of the past works from the viewpoint of the basic principles with some case studies for resolution of specific enigmas
