This study examines the correlation between livestock odor civil petitions and the establishment of malodor control areas in Jeju Special Self-Governing Province, focusing on swine farms where numerous civil petitions regarding malodors have been received. After the designation of the malodor control areas, high odor concentrations occurred in Aewoleup and Jocheon-eup, and the odor concentration decreased in other areas. The number of civil petitions shows a consistent annual trend, with increased petitions from March, peaking during summer (July and August), and decreasing from September into winter. In Jeju-si, there were many civil petitions in Hallim-eup and Aewol-eup where there were many malodor control areas. However, in Seogwipo-si, there were also many civil petitions in Pyoseonmyeon, where there is no malodor control area. Additionally, we compared the average multiple of compound malodors and the rate of exceeding the maximum allowable emission level for compound malodors with the number of livestock malodor civil petitions to assess the actual state of malodors. The results reveal a stronger correlation between the number of civil petitions and the rate of exceeding the compound malodors allowable emission level than the average multiple for compound malodors. These findings provide valuable insights into addressing livestock odor concerns and enhancing malodor control measures in Jeju Island.

Korea is a country where the population is concentrated in metropolitan areas that have undergone rapid industrial development. As of 2020, more than 43% of the total population lives in large cities, and about 18.5% of the total population lives in Seoul. A basic human need living in such a metropolis is a pleasant environment. In this study, complex odors and designated odors were evaluated at the boundary areas and at the outlets for 15 public environmental facilities selected from among odor sources in Seoul. As a result of measuring the complex odor intensity was 3 ~ 6 times at the boundary areas and 100 ~ 4,481 times at the outlets. In food waste treatment facilities, incineration facilities, and waste transfer station facilities, the compound making the largest contribution to odor is acetaldehyde, which was recorded at 46%, 25%, and 32% respectively. At a sewage treatment facility and agro-fisheries wholesale market, hydrogen sulfide was the largest contributing compound at 71% and 29% respectively.

When it evaluates the odor actual investigation of the odor control restricts in Gyeonggi-do during 2004 and 2009 year, The complex odor at 4 industrial complexes was appeared gradually to be decreased after 2006 year, Excess cases of standard in Banwol, Sihwa, Banwol plating, and Asan industrial complexes were 9 times, 9times, one times and one times respectively, Excess odor substances changed every year in Sihwa and Banwol industrial complex, but Hydrogen sulfide is exceeded odor emission standards in 2006, 2007, 2009 year continually. On the other hand, the cases that complex odor and specified odor substances were exceeded simultaneously were 40.9% of total, and the rest of cases were estimated as to be caused by the other appointment compounds or the lack of quality control. The corelation (R²) of complex odor concentration and the number of resident complaint was 0.434 at Sihwa industrial complex, 0.878 at Banwol industrial complex and 0.434 at Asan industrial complex. also, corelation (R²) of complex odor and data of odor auto monitoring was 0.145 at Sihwa industrial complex and 0.964 at Banwol industrial complex. therefore, Sihwa industrial complex is partially demanded the check of sampling site and the quality control on the complex odor.

Odor management area was introduced by Odor prevention laws in 2004. Odor is generated a lot of sources. It is generated from various process as well as stack outlet. So it is hard to control odor. The ministry of environment develops the system to control odor. Nineteen areas were selected as Odor management area. Odor management area should be conducted for periodical research on the actual condition. Odor is normally measured by Odor analysis method. However, there are some difficulties to conduct by Odor management area because of measurement frequency, limitation of areas and high cost. Therefore we need to figure out how to reinforce this performance in Odor management area. So we have checked possibility of monitoring system with realtime odor monitoring, electron sensor, mobile communication and odor modeling system. The Odor monitoring system is consist of realtime monitoring system and electron sensor system. The Odor monitoring system could be checked for odor concentration and source of odor by accessing internet and mobile communication.

This study was conducted to identify status of odor managing zones in incheon metropolitan city. There are four odor managing zones in incheon ; Namdong industrial complex, Seobu industrial complex, Seoknam-Wonchangdong industrial complex, Baekseok-Oryudong area. Each zone with 16 sampling sites consisted of three parts. One was inner area (1-1~1-4 site) and another was boundary area (2-1~2-4 site) and the third was outer area (3-1~3-8 site). We analyzed quarterly 18 items of odor pollutants in order to investigate air quality of odor managing zones during 2006. Data of inner area was higher than that of boundary or outer area and concentration of odor pollutants of night was higher than that of day. Overall results of this study showed that concentration of odor pollutants in some sampling sites of boundary and outer area was too low (about ND). Especially ambient hydrogen sulfide of inner area (1-1 site) and boundary area (2-1 site) in baekseok-oryudong odor zone were 0.82 ppm and 0.55 ppm respectively due to landfill gas.

The aim of this study was to investigate the legally-designated malodorous compounds at the plant boundary areas of 5 plants expected to emit high odor intensities, as well as! complaint area at the Yeosu petrochemical industrial complex in Korea. The sampling was carried out during spring and summer of 2003 and 2006. The concentrations of ammonia, sulfur compounds (hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, and dimethyl sulfide) and aldehydes (acetaldehyde and propionaldehyde) emitted during 2006 were higher than those emitted during 2003, and the concentrations emitted during summer were higher than those emitted during spring at the plant boundary areas. It was thought that the concentrations of odorants in the complaint area had been directly influenced by the concentrations of odorants in the plant boundary areas as they showed similar patterns of concentration variations. While the concentration of TMA during 2006 was lower than during 2003 at the all sampling sites, the concentration of styrene during 2006 was higher than during 2003 at the all sampling sites. The sites showed high concentrationsof odorous compounds at the plant boundary area of the related chemical and petrochemical refinery plants.

Emission characteristics of gaseous odor compounds emitted from the charcoal manufacturing process were investigated, and evaluated the odor removal efficiency of odor control devices. It was found that the measured odor dilution ratio of emission gases ranged from 10,000 to 44,814, which exceed largely the emission standard in the stack. Methylmercaptan, trimethylamine, hydrogen sulfide, acetaldehyde were turned out as major odor compounds of the charcoal manufacturing process. It was revealed that the odor removal ratio of odor control devices were very low due to the its improper maintenance and wrong design.
