The common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina), which is native to North America, started to be imported into South Korea as pets in the 1990s. The turtle was sold in supermarkets and pet shops nationwide at low prices such as 20 USD. These non-native turtles, with their large size and strong predatory nature, have been consistently discovered in the wild in South Korea beginning in 2014, and they were designated as an ecosystem-disturbing species (EDS) in October 2022. Until June 30, 2023, a collection system was implemented to reduce the abandonment problem of C. serpentina due to their designation as an EDS. In this study, we analyzed the impacts of the legal designation as an ecologically disturbing species and the collection system of C. serpentina on their abandonment and surrender. Our findings showed that designation as EDS did not affect the abandonment of C. serpentina. Meanwhile, the collection system led to cases of immediate surrender. Within 3 years of post-purchase, 41.8% of the turtles were surrendered, and 67.5% were surrendered when they reached 3 kg. Determining the impact of the legal designation as an EDS may be currently limited due to the difficulty of detecting C. serpentina in the wild. On the other hand, cases of surrender through the collection system are considered to be effective as they have been shown to reduce the abandonment of this newly designated ecosystem-disturbing species.

Shopping cart abandonment of the online shopping process is a major challenge for firms. It describes the phenomenon that a potential customer starts a check out process for an online order but drops out of the process before completing the purchase. On average, 650 out of 1,000 customers do not convert (Baymard Institute 2017), which highlights the managerial relevance and impact of this phenomenon for online firms. Since shopping cart abandonment directly affects an online firm’s sales and revenue, researchers and practitioners likewise are interested in understanding why people leave a website without completing the shopping process and, more importantly, how to reduce online shopping cart abandonment. However, to date, research on these questions is scarce (e.g., Kukar-Kinney and Close 2010) and firms lack guidance how to deal with online shopping cart abandonment. The goal of this study is to investigate effective countermeasures that firms can use to reduce and prevent the likelihood of abandonment and thereby to increase the likelihood of a conversion. We conducted a field experiment in cooperation with a German accessories online retailer over three weeks (n = 8,467 shopping carts) and tested the effectiveness of a reminder pop-up window with a 10% discount vs. a reminder pop-up window without a discount vs. a control group. All online store visitors within the period were randomly assigned to one of three groups once they have put an item in the shopping cart. The pop-up windows appeared once they were about to click on the exit button. Our results indicate that a reminder pop-up window with a 10% discount significantly increases the conversion rate on the website compared to the control group, leading to an increase in revenue of approximately € 5,000. In contrast, a reminder pop up window a discount does not seem to reduce shopping cart abandonment. Further, we will investigate how this campaign affects the retailer’s overall profitability. In addition, using a laboratory experiment (n = 1,041) we replicated and extended our insights on effective countermeasures for shopping cart abandonment. People seem to be more likely to convert when there is a guest checkout option available. In sum, our research has important implications for researchers and online firms how to deal with online shopping cart abandonment.

본 연구는 최근 인구구조의 급격한 변화에 따른 클라이언트의 변화, 사회복지사업의 지방이양으로 인한 지역별 격차 증가, 지역사회 내 유사서비스 기관 증가라는 환경변화에 대응할 필요가 있는 노인복지관의 입장에서 현재 프로그램 이용자 중 중단하는 노인의 특성과 중단하는 이유는 무엇이며, 향후 희망하는 서비스가 있는지를 밝힘으로써, 노인복지관의 이용자를 지속적으로 확보ㆍ유지할 수 있는 발전방안을 제시하는데 목적이 있다. 연구방법은 노인복지관 프로그램 이용자 663명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 연구결과를 살펴보면, 본 복지관의 이용자 평균연령은 74.9세로 고연령층인 반면, 2017년 신규가입자는 전체인원 중 66~70세의 어르신 비율이 29.7%로 가장 높으며, 65세 이하 어르신이 22.9%로 전체 가입회원 중 60대가 차지하는 비율이 52.6%로 베이비부머세대가 증가하고 있는 것을 알 수 있다. 또한, 남자 247명(39.0%), 여자 386명(61.0%)의 비율로 여자 어르신이 더 많은 것으로 조사되었고, 중단 회원도 남자 어르신(67명, 48.3%) 보다 여자 어르신(81명, 54.7%)이 더 많은 것으로 조사되었다. 중단자 조사 결과를 살펴보면, 전체 가입자의 23.4%의 어르신이 중단하였고, 중단사유는 개인사유(25.7%), 집과의 거리(23.0%), 이용의 불필요(13.3%), 기타/자유의사(13.3%)로 조사되었다. 이중 개인사유로 조사된 내용은 여자 어르신의 경우 자녀의 아이를 돌봐야하는 갑작스런 사유가 많았으며, 이와 같은 경우는 재이용의사가 있다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 반면, ‘집과의 거리’, ‘직원의 불친절’과 같은 복지관의 개선 및 반영이 필요한 경우를 문제점으로 발견할 수 있었다.

This study aims to compare the floristic status of six paddy fields with different chronosequences after rice crop closure. The study sites are located on the highlands and near an abandoned farm house of Gosanri Wanjumyeon Iksangun, Joeonbuk. All sites are adjacent to each other. We established a line transect along longitudinal and transverse direction within each site. The flora, plant cover and height of plants within 1 m × 1 m quadrat along the transect were recorded. We counted 34 Salix koreensis on 8 year old abandoned paddy field in 2008 and 23 Salix koreensis invaded more in this field until 2010. Typha orientalis, Salix koreensis, Phragmites japonica, Bidens frondosa and Persicaria thunbergii dominated on 13 year old abandoned paddy field. Phragmites japonica, Bidens frondosa and Persicaria thunbergii were recorded on 13 year old abandoned paddy field. Leersia japonica, Persicaria thunbergii and Typha orientalis dominated on 7 year old abandoned paddy field. No trees were discovered on 6 year old abandoned paddy field because of high water depth generated from bad draining. The exchangeable Ca content increased in each site as time goes by. The total mean species number of soil seedbank analysis did not indicate significant differences between study sites. It is suggested that colonization of plants on abandoned paddy field depend upon the condition of drain and soil chemical contents.

본 연구는 고등학교 학생들의 선택중심 교육과정에서 체육교과 선택, 지속, 선택포기 시 나타나는 심리적 변화를 탐색하여 체육교과 선택률을 높이고 학교체육의 질적 발전을 도모하는데 그 목적이 있다. 개방형 설문지를 통해 1,022명의 1,352건에 대한 반응을 귀납적 내용분석 한 결과, 고등학생의 체육교과 선택동기는 재미/흥미, 자신감, 건강증진, 교사호감, 교우관계 등의 일반영역으로 범주화되었고, 체육교과 지속동기는 재미/흥미, 자신감, 건강증진, 행동유지, 등의 일반영역으로 범주화되었다. 또한, 체육교과 선택포기동기는 성적, 재미결여, 자신감 부족, 소질계발, 정서함양, 수업환경, 교사호감, 교우관계, 선택권활용의 일반영역으로 범주화되었다. 마지막으로 체육교과 선택에 있어 의사결정과정을 탐색해 본 결과 학생본인의 생각으로 결정했다는 반응이 93.6%로 높게 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 내적동기이론에 근거해 논의하였으며, 본 연구의 결과는 고등학교 체육교육과정 편성 및 운영에 있어 학생중심 체육수업을 위한 유용한 자료로 활용 될 것으로 기대된다.
