Essential oils (EOs) extracted from plants possess various biological activities and have been considered as natural insecticides due to their potent insecticidal activities. In regard to develop natural insecticides, EOs are formulated as an emulsifiable concentrate and their acute toxicity against to fishes were determined in a static condition using Cyprinus carpio. Coriander EO was used as an active ingredient mixed with ethanol for solvent and various surface active agents. The tested EOs were obtained from a commercial market, and three different extractions were also undertaken to produce EO using steam distillation, solvent extraction, and supercritical fluid extraction. Among the emulsifiable concentrate including a commercial coriander EO, surface active agents such as Tween 80, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), and mixture of SDBS and Nonidet showed acute toxicity to the fish. With the three different EO extraction, coriander EO obtained from supercritical fluids with Triton X-100 exhibited acute toxicity to C. carpio. Taken together, Tetgitol and Nondet are considered as surface active agents for the emulsifiable formulation of coriander EO.

Commercial plant essential oils from 27 plant species were tested for their nematicidal activities against the pinewood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. Good nematicidal activity against B. xylophilus was achieved with essential oils of coriander (Coriandrum sativum), styrax (Liquidamber orientalis) and valerina (Valeriana wallichi). Analysis by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry led to identification of 26, 10 and 4 major compounds from coriander (Coriandrum sativum), styrax (Liquidamber orientalis) and valerina (Valeriana wallichi) oils, respectively. These compounds from three plant essential oils were tested individually for their nematicidal activities against the pine wood nematode. Among compounds, benzaldehyde, trans-cinnamyl alcohol, cis-asarone, octanal, nonanal, decanal, trans-2-decenal, undecanal, dodecanal, decanol, and trans-2-decen-1-ol showed strong nematicidal activity. The essential oils and their described herein merit further study as potential nematicides against the pine wood nematode.

The aim of the study was to confirm whether the coriander seeds ethanol extract (CSEE) exhibited effective antioxidant activity and oxidative stability in corn oil. The results showed that the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS) cation radical scavenging activity were 24.4, 55.0, and 81.0, and 8.9, 16.8, and 34.3% at the concentrations of 0.25, 0.5, and 1.0 mg/mL, respectively. The ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) reduction power was 284.1 μM ascorbic acid equivalent/g extract, and the total phenol content (TPC) was 31.9 μM tannic acid equivalent/g extract. Furthermore, the TPC showed positive correlations with the DPPH radical scavenging activity, ABTS cation radical scavenging, and FRAP value (p<0.01). oxygen radical absorbance by fluorescein (ORAC) analysis showed that the antioxidant activities of trolox 50 μM and CSEE 100 μg/mL were 3.1 and 4.4 times higher than those of blank AUC, respectively. In addition, CSEE reduced the amounts of conjugated diene and ρ-anisidine by 8.3 and 40.8%, respectively, in the oxidized corn oil. Thus, the coriander seeds ethanol extract is confirmed to have effective antioxidant activity and oxidative stability in corn oil, and it can be used as a natural antioxidant for preservation in food processing.

Background : The study was conducted in response to climate change, to develop cultivation techniques by introducing a new crop income. Therefore, we want to collect the Coriander sativum genetic resources that are grown in different regions of the korea and other countries. The C. sativum were strengthens the stomach to say "housil" in Herbal and prosper digestion. Recently, several nations, including Vietnam and Thail and increased in Korea. C. sativum increased eating enjoy food. The people who like C. sativum in Korea is estimated to be 1.5 million. Methods and Result : First was C. sativum 93 species in National agrobiodiversity Center RDA lotting-out on May 12, 2016 for the study. C. sativum germplasm received lotting-out of over thousand grain 15g 28 kinds of seeds, 10∼15g was 23 species, 10g less than 42 species. 32 kinds of fruit color is white, black, 30 species, the gray was 31 species. Conclusion : C. sativum lotting-out was conducted by resource for two weeks from germination test from May 31 to June 13. The results were as follows: C. sativum port germination 86∼100% germination was 43 stocks, 40∼60% of 23 stocks, 5 stocks of 20∼ 40%. The 22 stocks were not germinate paper. C. sativum resources per port germination test was conducted 13 days from 29 days July until August 9th. As a result, more than 90% of the port germination is 62 stocks, not more than 80∼90%, 50∼80% 18 stocks of germination was 5 stocks. At this time, no germination was 8 stocks. Therefore, C. sativum germination test is a port germination test obtained a more than satisfactory result.
