        This review discussed the properties of biological factors affecting the function of phosphorus (P) sink of wetlands, and proposed the applicability of microbes, especially periphyton in phosphorus removal. Microbes have a large potential in natural purification of water, because they have fast growth rates and outcompete macrophytes in taking up P. The degree of P uptake by microbes, especially periphyton appears largely to depend on P and light availability and their biomass. As long as there is sufficient light, periphyton can accrue biomass in the system, assuming losses from herbivory and disturbance are not too great. This large periphyton biomass can reduce P concentrations in the water column via uptake and adsorption, and thereby being able to reduce algal blooms. This idea can be applicable to ameliorate water quality by introducing constructed wetlands and shallow ponds in the incoming region of rivers or lakes. The future studies are required to accumulate data on P cycling between microbes and environmental parameters in wetlands.

        달방댐 3개 유입수의 연평균 총인 농도는 달방골, 서 학골 및 신흥골이 각각 7.7, 19.1 및 40.0 mgP/m3이었으며 신흥골 유입수가 상대적으로 높았다. 초기 강우시에는 유입수량 증가에 따라 총인 농도가 모두 증가하는 양의 관계를 보여주고 있으나 뒤이어 계속해되는 두번째 강우에서는 유입수량 증가와 크게 관련이 없는 것으로 나타났다. 강우가 집중되었던 1994년 10월 12일에 달방골 유입수의 초기 강우시 총인농도는 97.8 mgP/m3 이였으며, 서학골 유입수는 190 mgP/m3, 신흥골 유입수는 1,336 mgP/m3로 매우 높았다. 달방댐 표층(0~5m 평균)의 총인 농도는 1994년부터 점차 증가되어 1994년과 1995년 10월의 농도가 각각 26.0과 50.0 (3회 측정치 평균) mgP/m3으로 조사되었다. 달방댐에 유입되는 전체 총인 부하량은 각각 236.9 kgP/yr으로 계산되었으며 우기인 10월과 11월에 유입 되는 부하량이 전체 부하량의 71.0%인 167.8 kgP/yr이었다. 유역전체로 볼 때 신흥골 유역으로부터 부하되는 인부하량이 64.1%로 많은 것으로 나타났다. 인 발생부 하량은 2,216 kgP/yr로 계산되었으며, 유역에서 발생된 인이 호수까지 도달되는 도달율은 10.7%이었다. 본 연구결과 호수 수질을 관리하기 위해서는 강우, 특히 초기 강우시에 유입되는 오염물질의 양을 줄여야 할 것으로 사료된다. 이를 위해서는 유역에 산재해 있는 비점오염원인 가축 배설물과 농경지로부터 유출되는 인부 하량을 감소시킬 수 있는 방안이 수립되어야 할 것으로 보인다.

        To examine the effects of residual phosphorus content on color reversion and storage stability of corn germ oil, the changes of Lovibond total color and stability of oxidation were determined according to the different storage periods at room and incubating temperature, respectively. The residual phosphorus content and storage temperature had the synergistic effect on color reversion during short time storage. The extent of color change was the greatest when oils were stored for 1.0-1.5 years at room temperature and thereafter gradually tended to reverse color reversion. It is supposed that the double bonds of carotenoids in oils were oxidized and then turned to the volatiles such as epoxide, ionone, and etc. In contrast, the residual phosphorus content increased oxidation stability of oils. The residual phosphorus content was closely correlated with the color reversion and storage stability, respectively.

        The compacts of pure and phosphorus-coated iron powder with 0~0.8%C were sintered at for 40 min. in cracked ammonia gas atmosphere. The tensile and impact strengths were measured and the relationship of the results with carbon content, phosphorus, quenching and tempering was investigated. The results obtained can be summarized as follows : (1) The tensile strength of sintered compacts increased slowly with carbon content. Increase in tensile strength by heat treatment was evident especially in the low carbon specimen. The specimen with phosphorus showed higher strength compared to pure iron compacts value. (2) No inflection point of elasticplastic deformation on stress-strain curve was observed in sintered steel. The elastic modulus of sintered steel had the same tendency as tensile strength. But the elongation showed the opposite tendency. (3) The impact absorption energy of sintered steel without addition of phosphorus decreased successively with carbon content and by quenching and tempering. On the contrary, addition of phosphorus resulted in an increase of the impact absorption energy. Quenching and tempering did not affect the impact energy especially in high carbon content. (4) The main fracture source was pore in specimen and the propagation of crack occured mostly along the grain boundaries. But the intragranular fracture was also observed in high carbon, quenched and tempered specimen, and especially in the specimen with phosphorus.

        Commercial pure iron powder and iron powder of coated 0.45% phosphorus were mixed with graphite powder in dry mixer to control carbon content from 0 wt% to 0.8 wt%. Mixed powder was pressed in the mould under the pressure of 510 MPa. Compacts were sintered at 118 for 40 min. in cracked ammonia gaseous atmosphere. Some of these sintered specimens were quenched in oil, and tempered in Ar gas. All of these specimens were investigated for microstructure, density and hardness in relation to coated phosphorus and carbon content. The results obtained were as follows: (1) The microstructure of the sintered speciments revealed that the amount of pearlite was increased with increasing C content but decreased by P-addition. (2) The P-addition affected the microstructure of pores in which the pore shape became round and its mean size was decreased by P-addition. (3) After tempering of sintered specimens the structure of pearlite was changed from fine structure to coarse one in P added specimen. (4) Hardness was higher in P added specimens.

        In this research, investigations were made on the effect of type and load of organic substrate on phosphorus release. Reactors of three different sizes were operated, being fed on five kinds of organic substrates. The quantitative analyses were made on phosphorus release and substrate utilization under anaerobic condition. The molar ratios of the uptaken organic substrate to the released phosphorus were 0.5 with acetate, 0.6 with glucose, 0.8 with glucose/acetate, and 1.2 with glucose/acids, respectively. The phosphorus release was inhibited at the higher organic load than the normal at stead state. Both acetate and acids/glucose enhanced phosphorus release- as well as uptake-rate, however, the complete phosphorus removal was achieved after the microbial adaptation to the new environment. In case with acetate, operation was hampered by the poor sludge settleability and phosphorus uptake was not enough although the phosphorus release was active. But with milk/starch, the phosphorus release and uptake was well developed even though phosphorus release was not comparatively high. From this study, it was concluded that organic substrates, such as glucose seemed to be converted fatty acids after fast bio-sorption, followed by concurrent uptake of these acids by excess phosphorus removing bacteria.

        The study of lake pollution problems is often related to the dynamic behavior of phosphorus. Several phosphorus models are available that may be suitable to study these problems. Depending on the the management objectives and data availability, some models may be more appropriate than others. Criteria are defined to help modelers choose the most appropriate total phosphorus models for different lakes. These criteria consider in-lake processes such as sediment feedback, stratification, and algal uptake and recycle.
