Information and communication technology(ICT) around the world in the 21st century presents a new vision of agriculture. Time, place, and the high-tech industry to overcome barriers to the fusion of the so-called “smart agriculture” is changing the landscape of agriculture. Precision Agriculture’s core container production for the mushroom cultivation temperature, humidity, irradiation, self-regulation, such as carbon dioxide, the optimal environment for mushroom cultivation was implemented. Auricularia auricula-judae, known as the Jew's ear, wood ear, jelly ear or by a number of other common names, is a species of edible Auriculariales fungus found worldwide. The fruiting body is distinguished by its noticeably ear-like shape and brown colouration. The fungus can be found throughout the year in temperate regions worldwide, where it grows upon both dead and living wood. We controlled different light source (Blue-Red-White combined LED, blue LED, red LED and fluorescent light) with different intensity of LED irradiation (1.5, 10.5 and 20.5 μmol/m2s for LEDs) to compare growth and development. Lights were treated with 12 hour on/ 12hour off cycle maintained in a controlled room with 19 ~ 21oC temperature, 85~95% humidity, and 1000ppm CO2 atmosphere concentration for 30 days. Growth and development differed from the LED color source and intensity of LED irradiation. Growth and development was most effective in 1.5 μmol/m2s irradiation for blue LED. All LED light sources showed less growth and development in highest intensity of irradiation, which indicates that higher than 20.5 μmol/m2s for LED is not effective. After harvesting fruit bodies, we measured their weight, length, width, thickness and chromaticity of fruit bodies. 1.5 μmol/m2s blue LED group was the best result of harvest with average individual weight (5.38g), length (65.37mm), width (56.87mm) and thickness (13.51mm) with fine chromaticity. This results show us that 1.5 μmol/m2s blue LED was the best effect on growth and development of Auricularia auricula-judae mushroom’s ICT system container type environment.

Nueva Ecija is a landlocked province in Central Luzon region that is composed of 27 municipalities and 5 cities. It is a province that is rich with biodiversity on its north and east borders, which exhibit a shared ecosystem with the Caraballo mountain range in the north and the Sierra Madre mountain range in the east. Its main economic activity is farming where rice is the main crop. Part of the Sierra Madre mountain range traverses its towns of Bongabon, Laur, Rizal and Pantabangan where most of the locals perform agro – forestry activities as a means of generating income for their families. Due to the accumulation of farm residues as a result of intensive agro-forestry activities, mushroom pharming becomes a very viable agribusiness undertaking in the area. Our research team initiated the establishment of database by tracking the mushroom production activities in the province. Similarly, the prevailing climatic condition in the geographical area and the type of agro-forestry wastes have been tracked. Wastes as a result of intensive agro – forestry activities are being generated which the locals oftentimes burned in the field that posed hazard to the environment. In order to discourage this practice, our research team generated technologies on mushroom pharming using rice straw as the main substrate. The promotion of mushroom pharming is based on the suitability of mushroom species to grow in climatic conditions that prevail in the specific geographical area in the province. As a result of its collaborative research undertakings, the Center for Tropical Mushroom Research and Development of the Central Luzon State University in collaboration with the Laboratory of Forest Products Chemistry of Tokyo University of Agriculture and the Nikken Sohonsha Corporation encouraged the adoption of medicinal mushroom production technologies on rice straw – based formulation. With oyster mushroom (Pleurotus spp) as the most widely cultivated mushroom among the mushroom growers in the province, other ligninolytic mushrooms such as lacquered mushroom (Ganoderma) and wood ear mushroom (Auricularia spp.) are grown by the locals. Similarly, leaf – litter degrading mushrooms such as paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) are also being cultivated in the province. However, some mushroom growers in the province adopt sawdust – based mushroom production technology which is not economically appropriate in the province due to the scarcity of its availability compared to rice straw. Majority of the mushroom growers in the province adopt the rice straw – based mushroom technology. Moreover, high value mushroom – based products other than the fresh mushrooms are already in the local market.

In order to produce mushroom compost in low-cost and high-efficiency, a self-propelled turner was developed and compared with the uniformity of compost produced by excavator, compost mixer, and self-propelled turner. The material of the compost was mixed with rice straw and chicken manure at a ratio of 3:1 as dry weight. After the final turning, the internal temperature distribution, the water content of the compost pile, the ash ratio and uniformity of the compost pile were examined. After compost was completed, the water contents were 69.9 ± 0.54, 72.1 ± 0.15 and 74.5 ± 0.82%, respectively. The length of rice straw was 47.5 ± 15.4 cm, 24.9 ± 10.1 cm and 31.0 ± 10.6 cm, respectively. The ash content of the dry weight of each compost were 25.0 ± 6.2%, 33.6 ± 4.2% and 28.2 ± 1.1%, respectively. The deviation of the length of rice straw was affected by the linear velocity of the spinner in the compost mixer and the self-propelled turner, which were 9 m/sec for the self-propelled turner and 21.5 m/sec for the compost mixer. As a result, the mushroom compost was the most uniformly produced by the self-propelled turner.

We experimented to see if the tolerance of Agaricus bisporus to Pseudomonas sp. causing the bacterial brown blotch disease which is causing great damage in the button mushroom cultivation was inherited. There was no correlation between mycelial growth rate and mushroom tolerance to pathogens at each temperature. In the mycelial stage, the strains tolerance to Pseudomonas sp. were not as strong as those of their parents, but they were generally stronger or more tolerance than those of weaker strain (ASI1321). In fruiting body, tolerance was decreased compared to mycelial. In fruiting body, later generations of two strains had similar tolerance, unlike strong or weak tolerance of parental generation. Therefore, browning of fruit body is thought to be caused not only by tolerance but also by various other factors. Especially, the future generation of the strains which were tolerance to Pseudomonas sp. were very weak in the mycelial stage, indicating that the tolerance of the parental generation was inherited to the later generations. The damage of each pathogen was different in mycelium and fruiting body. P. tolaasii caused higher browning than P. agarici in fruit body. P. reactans did not have a significant effect on the mycelium but affected the browning of the fruit bodies. P. agarici had higher mycelial growth inhibitory ability than fruiting body.

Cladobotryum mycophilum is the causal agent of cobweb disease of commercial mushrooms. Symptoms were noticed as round, fleshy, yellowish brown lesions on mushroom caps and progressed when the parasitic fungus formed white cobweb circular colonies on dead or damaged pinheads, spread on the surface of the casing. Two gram-positive bacterium were isolated from mushroom media that markedly showed the antagonistic activity against C. mycophilum.. These isolates were identified as Bacillus altitudinis and Bacillus subtilis by analysis of the cultural, morphological and physiological characteristics, and analysis of the 16S rDNA. The isolated bacteria is saprophytic but not parasitic nor pathogenic to cultivation mushroom. The isolated bacteria cell was sufficient for inhibition in vitro for C. mycophilum. Control efficacy of browning disease of Bacillus altitudinis treatment was 78% on Agaricus bisporus. The optimal culture medium was determined as follows: 3% Soluble startch, 10% Soytone, 1% (NH4)2HPO4, 1 mmol KCl, and 0.5% L-asparagin at pH 6.0 at 30°C. Control efficacy of browning disease of Bacillus subtilis treatment was 71% on Agaricus bisporus. The optimal culture medium was determined as follows: 1.5% Xylose, 2% Soytone, 1% NH4H2PO4, 7 mmol CaCl2, and 0.5% Histidine at pH 6.0 at 25°C. Accordingly, the suppressive bacterium may be useful in future for the development of biocontrol system and the construction of genetically modified edible fungi resistant to the disease caused by C. mycophilum.

The lingzhi mushroom or reishi mushroom (traditional Chinese: 靈芝; pinyin: língzhī; Japanese: 霊芝; rōmaji: reishi; Vietnamese: linh chi; Korean: Yeong Ji; literally: "soul/spirit mushroom") is a species complex that encompasses several fungal species of the genus Ganoderma, most commonly the closely related species Ganoderma lucidum, Ganoderma tsugae, and Ganoderma lingzhi. G. lingzhi enjoys special veneration in East Asia, where it has been used as a medicinal mushroom in traditional Chinese medicine for more than 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest mushrooms known to have been used medicinally. Yellow rot on Reish mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) has been the most destructive disease in the mushroom cultivation area in Korea. The causal pathogen was first reported as Xylogone sphaerospora (Anamorph Sporendonema purpurascens) by Lee et al in 1996 and some effective fungicides were selected to control the disease. A cultural method, vinyl cover method (VCM), in which wood logs are wrapped in two layers of polyethylene film and sterilized before spawning, was also developed by Oh et al. to control the disease by preventing soil inoculum. However, the control methods were not so effective in the farm that severe yield losses have occurred in the mushroom farm in which the disease have occurred. In order to prevent air-borne inoculum as well as soil-borne inoculum we used the 4-floor cultivation shelf and Soil contact barrier (crushed stone, reflective film, metal sound barrier). In the first year of the cultivation, none of the woods observed was infected with the pathogen.

Grifola frondosa is a polypore mushroom that grows in clusters of oaks. The mushroom is commonly known among English speakers as Maitake, hen of the woods, ram's head and sheep's head. It is typically found in late summer to early autumn. Maitake mushroom is used to treat cancer and also to relieve some of the side effects of chemical treatment (chemotherapy) for cancer. It is also used for HIV/AIDS, chronic fatigue syndrome(CFS), hepatitis, hay fever, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, weight loss or control, and infertility due to a condition called polycystic ovary syndrome. We have developed log cultivation technique of Grifola frondosa to produce better quality mushrooms and have investigated annual yield characteristics. As a result of the cultivation of Maitake mushroom using oak log, ‘Yipsae1ho’ varieties showed a high yield of 16.0 kg/m2 in the first year, 15.4 kg/m2 in the second year, 9.5 kg/m2 in the third year and 4.6 kg/m2 in the fourth year. The yields were decreased annually. There was no significant difference during the first year to the third year in ‘Dabark’ varieties, but it decreased sharply to 6.2 kg/m2 in the fourth year. Between the varieties, the yield of ‘Yipsae1ho’ varieties was 45.4 kg/m2 totally, which was somewhat higher than that of ‘Darbak’ varieties, 42.6 kg/m2.

At present, oak sawdust and rice bran are mainly used as the medium materials for bag cultivation of Lentinula edodes. This experiment was conducted to develop the optimum medium of ‘Nongjingo’, a new variety of Lentinula edodes. We investigated oak sawdust, oak fermented sawdust, poplar sawdust, and douglas fir sawdust as main materials, and rice bran and wheat bran as nutrient resources, respectively. The medium composition was consisted of main material 80%+nutrient 20% based on the volume ratio. Eight treatments of medium composition were tested. The period of mycelial incubation in ‘oak sawdust 40%+douglas fir sawdust 40%+rice bran 20% was 86 days (39 days in dark incubation and 47 days in browning) shortened up to 18 days compared to the control. The 1st yield of commercial fruiting bodies in this treatment was 48.1 g/bag which was 44.8% higher than that in control. We expect that the cultivation period of ‘Nongjingo’ will be shortened, and the yield increased in the medium replaced half of oak sawdust by douglas fir sawdust.

Shiitake culture in sawdust is a widely applied method, which can supplement the disadvantages of costly and time consuming oak log cultivation. In sawdust cultivation, browning of surface mycelia is an important stage for the productivity and longevity of sawdust media. Surface browning forms protection coat for the substrate, which can block the invasion of outer pathogens and suppress water evaporation in the substrate. We controlled different light source (red LED, white LED, blue LED, and fluorescent light) with different intensity of illumination (1.5, 10.5, 20.5 μmol/m2s for LEDs and 10, 100, 300 lux for fluorescent light) to induce browning. Lights were treated with 1 hour on/ 1 hour off cycle maintained in a controlled room with 20oC temperature, 60% humidity, and 1200 ppm CO2 atmosphere concentration for 67 days. Browning effect differed from the source and intensity of illumination. Browning was most effective in 1.5 μmol/m2s for blue LED. All light sources showed less browning in highest intensity of illumination, which indicates that higher than 20.5 μmol/m2s for LEDs or 300 lux for fluorescent light are not effective. After harvesting fruit bodies, we measured their weight, length and width of pileus and stipe, chromaticity, and hardness. Treatment with 1.5 μmol/m2s blue LED produced the best harvest with highest average individual weight (21.2g), stipe length (30.8 mm), and hardness (377.9 g) with fine length and width of pileus, and chromaticity. This results indicate that 1.5 μmol/m2s blue LED showed the best browning effect which resulted in the best harvest yeild.

This study is investigated the growth characteristics(number of available stipe, pileus diameter, pileus thickness, stipe length, stipe thickness, object weight, comparison yield ability of 1 cycle) and storage characteristics of ‘Sanjo 701’ (S7) cultivars according to relative humidity. The S7 growth characteristics were investigated by quantifying the growth and the characteristics according to the relative humidity, The storage stability was investigated every 5 days and freshness was measured by ‘Minamide Method’. S7 pileus diameter is The higher the relative humidity was confirmed becomes larger and the more increased relative humidity also increase the comparison yield ability of 1 cycle. However, pileus diameter or stipe length This could not see the big difference in the three treatment groups, the plieus thickness was no significant difference in the treatment of 80% and 95%. The fresh weight of S7 decreased significantly at 80% and 95% relative humidity after 10 days of storage, but decreased continuity in 65% humiditiry. The elongation percentage of S7 pileus was observe in 95% relative humidity, values of L, a and b (SCI), showed the highest L value in 65% and the a value in 95%. b values were similar in 65%, 80% and 95% treatments. On the ‘Minamide Method’ measure freshness was changed from the 10th day of storage at relative humidity of 95%, but humidity of 65% and 80% treatments, it changed after 15 days of storage. In this study growth characteristics and yield were increased at higher relative humidity, but storage stability was decreased. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to change the relative humidity to produce high quality mushrooms.

The Lentinula edodes (shiitake) is an edible mushroom native to East Asia, which is cultivated and consumed in many Asian countries. It is considered a medicinal mushroom in some forms of traditional medicine. The fungus was first described scientifically as Agaricus edodes by Miles Joseph Berkeley in 1877. It was placed in the genus Lentinula by David Pegler in 1976. We controlled different light source (Blue-Red-White combined LED, blue LED, red LED and fluorescent light) with different intensity of LED irradiation (1.5, 10.5, 20.5 μmol/m2s for LEDs) to compare growth and development. Lights were treated with 12 hour on/ 12hour off cycle maintained in a controlled room with 19 ~ 21oC temperature, 80~90% humidity, and 1,000 ppm CO2 atmosphere concentration for 30 days. Growth and development differed from the LED color source and intensity of LED irradiation. Growth and development was most effective in 10.5 μmol/m2s for blue LED. All LED light sources showed less growth and development in lowest intensity of irradiation, which indicates that higher than 1.5 μmol/m2s for LED is not effective. After harvesting fruit bodies, we measured their weight and length, thickness of pileus and stipe, chromaticity, and hardness. 10.5 μmol/m2s blue LED group was the best result of harvest with average individual weight (24.7g) and length (61.98mm), thickness (29.93mm) of pileus and length (33.60mm), thickness (16.86mm) of stipe with fine chromaticity, hardness. This results show us that 10.5 μmol/m2s blue LED was the best effect on growth and development of Lentinus edodes (shiitake) mushroom’s ICT system container type environment.

In this study, shiitake mushrooms (Lentinula edodes) cultivated in smart-farm and general farm were compared in morphology and physiology. In morphology, mushrooms produced in smart farm system showd a little bit thicker and wider pileus and thicker and longer stipe compared with those produced from general farm. The hardness of stipe was higher in the mushrooms from moderate farm, since low relative humidity in cultivation rooms can induce the mushroom tissue harder. In the aspect of physiology, the free radical scavenging activity was evaluated by DPPH assay. Among the various treatments, hot water extracts of freeze-dried shiitake produced from smart farm represented the highest DPPH value as 37.8%. In contrast, 70% ferment alcohol extract of shiitake which was dried by hot air showed the lowest activity value of 12.2%. The hot water extracts showed higher polyphenol contents than 70% ferment alcohol extracts. And the freeze-dried samples showed higher polyphenol contents than hot-air dried ones. When cultivating the shiitake by the smart was sold rather than cultivating with the general cropping system, using the system, the antioxidant activity and polyphenol content makes the mushroom in which the functionality improves more highly than me and general cropping system and it will be helpful.

Lentinula edodes are mainly used for cultivation and food in Korea. Consumption is gradually increasing with the characteristic smell and taste. In addition, anti-cancer effect, hypertension, atherosclerosis and other effects have been proven to be a functional food. The cultivation method of highland rice changed from lumber to sawdust bag. Thus, a browned step is required so that the surface of the medium can act like a tree epidermis. The browned medium is not easily contaminated with other bacteria even when in contact with the outside air. It is also a necessary step because it suppresses evaporation of water in the medium and helps mushroom production. But it takes a very long time to browning. Therefore, it is necessary to study the browning of the medium during the cultivation of the altitude. Therefore, the color of the Lab color was measured using a colorimeter to determine the browning efficiency of the medium by LED light source type and intensity. The varieties were Nongjingo and Sanjo-701. The LED light sources were divided into upper, middle, and lower by setting the blue, green, white, and red colors at 100 to 500 ㏓. L values of light source showed the greatest decrease in blue color, followed by white, green and red. It was confirmed that the L value of Sanjo 701 was lower than that of Nongjingo. The decrease of L value by the type of light source showed the same tendency as Nongjingo, and blue was the most decreased, followed by white, green and red.

Tremella fuciformis has about 40 species worldwide, and is widely distributed in the subtropical, tropical, and temperate regions. Tremella fuciformis is known to have been eaten by poppy in Chinese classics and has been a symbol of beauty since ancient times. In fact, it has been known that the extract of the Tremella fuciformis induces inhibition of melanin formation of the cells to have a skin whitening effect and to prevent wrinkles caused by UV stimulation damage, thereby improving wrinkles. Tremella fuciformis was first cultivated in Sichuan province, China, and is now cultivated in China and Southeast Asia. China has succeeded in large-scale artificial cultivation of Tremella fuciformis, but there is no research on mass artificial cultivation in Korea. Therefore, this study was carried out to develop standard cultivation technique for mass production of Tremella fuciformis. In order to select the optimal medium for Tremella fuciformis, five kinds of medium such as PDA, MCM, MEA, YM and CDA were used. Tremella fuciformis showed the best growth on PDA medium, and Annulohypoxylon stygium showed the best growth on MCM. The growth of Tremella fuciformis was good at pH 5 , and Annulohypoxylon stygium showed the best growth at pH 6. The optimum temperature for Tremella fuciformis and Annulohypoxylon stygium was 25 °C. Carbon source and nitrogen source were selected to establish optimal culture conditions.

As a tropical country, Indonesia emphasize the agricultural sector in its economic development. Consequently the lignocellulosic biomass material as an agricultural waste is abundantly available. On the other hand, the production and consumption of edible mushrooms in Indonesia have gradually been increasing for years. Most of them is cultivated on lignocellulosic biomass material. Based on the substrate of their cultivation, the production of edible mushrooms in Indonesia was divided into two types. The first is using sawdust as a main substrate. Mushrooms cultivated in this substrate are oyster mushroom (Pleurotus sp), ear mushroom (Auricularia sp), and shiitake (Lentinus edodes). The second is to use rice straw as a main substrate. They are rice straw mushroom (Volvariella sp) and a button mushroom (Agaricus sp). All of the mushroom cultivation are done in small and medium scale without mechanization. This paper revealed the method of mushroom cultivation in Indonesia using both main substrate, sawdust and rice straw. The bioconversion of lignocellulose substrat into fresh fruiting body of mushroom is expressed in Biological Efficiency (BE). It was determinated by the weight of fresh mushroom as a percentage of the weight of wet substrate. The result show that the BE of Pleurotus sp growing on sawdust was 35-40%, while Volvariella sp growing on rice straw was 15-20%.

H. mamoreus is a mushroom with abundant favor and medicinal use. However, its cultivation has problems such as the long cultivation period, low biological efficiency and microbiological contamination, so new cultivars should be developed. In this study, 55 strains of H.marmoreus were analyzed with ISSR markers to identify precise genetic information in collected germplasm as mother strains in breeding. ISSR 13 and 15 markers were confirmed polymorphism. The three strains (KMC03106, KMC03107, and KMC03108) with white cap color were close genetic relationship in the UPGMA analysis of both the ISSR 13 and 15 markers. Especially in the PCR result of the ISSR 15, the collected germplasm were differentiated to three groups following collecting year. As these results, the ISSR 15 marker would be able to classify the phylogeny of cap color and genetic variation along the collecting year. Therefore ISSR markers will confer effective selection of mother strains for breeding of H. mamoreus.

A new commercial cultivar ‘GARES-HM-17-1’ of Hypsizigus marmoreus was developed by the method of mono-mono crossing between monokaryotic strains derived from Hae-Sal 3Ho. The parental strains are characterized by the property of high quality and a short period of time in cultivation. The optimum temperature of mycelial growth was 25°C and that of fruiting body development was 15~16°C. The period of harvesting including primordia formation was 23.0 days shorter than that of control strain Mangadak No. 2. The color of pileus and stipe surface was neutral-white, respectively. The yield was 82.0±5.8g/850cc plastic bottle. Analysis of the genetic characteristics of the new commercial cultivar ‘GARES-HM-17-1’ showed a different profile as that of the control strain, Mangadak No.2, when RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) primer was used. This new cultivar ‘GARES-HM-17-1’ of H. marmoreus is characterized by the improved quality and a short period of time in cultivation after scratching. It would be of much help to expand the cultivation area of H. marmoreus.

For heaths and vitality Cordyceps sinensis has been widely used as an important medicinal mushroom. C. militaris is popular for its substitute and can be cultivated artificially. Its new strains have been improved by crossing single spore strains. A bipolar heterothallic fungus, C. militaris has two strains of compatible mating types and they can be differentiated by crossing, fruiting body formation ability and the production of perithecia. Each isolate was determined to be monokaryotic or dikaryotic on the basis of perithecial formation by fruiting tests. This process was also carried out by molecular markers for the detection of two opposite mating types or F1 hybrids using two sets of primers specific for C. militaris amplifying a 191-bp fragment for MAT1-2 and 233-bp fragment for MAT1-1. Therefore the crossing of two compatible mating types resulted in well-developed perithecial fruiting bodies and their crossings were confirmed by the PCR assays for the rapid and specific detection of both MAT1-1 and MAT1-2. This results showed that molecular markers provide an efficient alternative for identification of hybridal status or mating types in the breeding program for artificial cultivation and industrial-scale production of C. militaris.

A entomopathogenic ascomycetous fungus, Cordyceps militaris is distributed world wide and cultivated as a medicinal mushroom having many valuable biological and pharmaceutical activities. In the breeding of new C. militaris mushroom, single ascospores were isolated and tested their characteristics such as mycelial growth, mycelial density, fruiting body formation ability, the production of perithecia. Also two opposite mating types were assayed using two sets of primers specific for C. militaris, which were amplified a 191-bp fragment for MAT1-1 and 233-bp fragment for MAT1-1. F1 hybrids resulted in well-developed perithecial fruiting bodies and their crossings were confirmed by the PCR assays. New hybrids were produced showing high quality fruiting bodies in artificial media. Mycelial growth of new strain 'Dowonhongcho 2’ was better on SDAY and at 15-25°C when it was compared with that of 'Yedang 3'. The stromata of new strain were club-shaped and bright orange-red color. Its length was 7.1 cm and the cordycepin content was 0.33% on average. In comparison with 'Yedang 3', the new strain had a yield that was 7% higher and it produced fruiting bodies which were firmer. Days of fruiting body were similar with 50 days from inoculation. This cultivar may serve as a valuable one for artificial cultivation and industrial-scale production of C. militaris.
