        Farrell and Wachholz provide a comprehensive report of the findings of a large-scale survey of the uses of information and communication technologies (ICT) in UNESCO member countries in the Asia- Pacific region. The surveys were prepared countryby- country by different individuals or teams. The reader is immediately struck by the sheer volume of information condensed in its almost 300 pages, as well as the great effort that each of the authors invested in researching and compiling each country report. Fortunately, the individual reports are brief and follow a consistent pattern, so that the cases can be compared quite easily. The book consists of 44 country-by-country, systematically organized, brief reports of the current state of ICT in education throughout Asia and the Pacific arranged into four regions—Central and South West Asia, East and South-East Asia, Pacific Island Countries, and South Asia—written by 24 authors who work as researchers, instructional designers, consultants, professors, and specialists in ICT. In this report, UNESCO uses a very broad definition of ICT, including broadcast technologies (radio and television), computers, related peripherals, e-mail, and the Internet and World Wide Web.

        한국과학재단 연구 인력 DB를 활용하여 지구과학을 포함한 국내 이공계 연구자의 연구 실적을 분석하였다. DB에 수록된 지질과학분야 연구자수는 312명(점유율 1.5%)이고, 최근 5년간(1999년부터 2003년까지) 게재실적은 SCI 학술지가 1,026편(점유율 0.2%)이었고, 일반학술지가 3,265편(점유율 0.5%)이었다. 최근 5년간 1인당 SCI 학술지 게재실적은 지질과학 분야가 3.3편, 수학은 4.0편, 물리학은 57.6편, 화학은 60.4편, 생물학은 33.4편으로 조사되었다. 지질과학분야 중 세부 분야별 연구자의 1인당 SCI 논문 게재실적은 환경지질학 9.6편, 층서퇴적학 4.6편, 지구화학 4.2편, 지하 수학 3.6편, 지질해양 3.5편, 자원공학 3.2편 순이었다. 본 조사분석 연구 결과는 지구과학과 타 이공계 분야간의 연구실적의 양과 질적인 측면에서의 상대 비교를 위한 근거로 활용될 수 있다.

        Through time-series CCD photometry using a 130mm refractor of Busan Science Academy, we found a new δ Scuti type variable star, esc 03665-00576. We performed following observations using a 1.8m telescope of Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory. Three frequencies have been derived by multiple-frequency analysis, which are 10.968, 7.156 and 15.182cycle day−1, respectively. V-amplitude of esc 03665-00576 is ΔV= 0.04.

        PISA의 두 번째 주기에 해당되는 PISA 2003에서는 문제해결 영역에 대한 평가가 새로이 도입되었다. PISA 2003 본검사 문제해결 영역에서는 (1) 의사결정, (2) 체제 분석 및 설계, (3) 문제점 해결 등의 세 가지 문제해결 유형에 따라 학생들의 범교과적 문제해결 능력을 평가하였다. 본 논문에서는 PISA 2003 본검사에 포함된 문제해결 영역문항들에 대한 우리나라 학생들의 정답률을 살펴보고, 문제해결 문항들 중 개방형 서술형 문항에 대한 학생들의 답안을 상세하게 분석하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 우리나라 학생들은 그림이나 그래프로 표상하는 과제에 취약하며, 긴 문장으로 제시된 지문 해석에서 어려움을 겪은 것으로 보인다. 또한, 우리 나라 학생들에게는 다소 낯선 맥락이나 소재를 활용한 과제의 경우 낮은 정답률을 기록하였다. PISA 2003 문제해결 영역을 분석한 결과가 과학교육에 주는 시사점도 논의하였다.

        2003년도에 추가된 85점의 고추 유전자원에 대하여 역병에 대한 저항성을 검정한 결과 새로운 고도 저항성 재료는 발견되지 않았다. 그러나 재래종의 원예적 형질을 갖춘 KC1184가 중도의 저항성을 나타내어 활용가치가 있을 것으로 사료되었다.

        이 연구는 약용버섯 번데기 동충하초로부터 특이적 자실체 형성 유전자를 선별하기 위하여 수행하였다. cDNA는 버섯의 분화 4단계 균사체, 원기, 미성숙 자실체, 성숙한 자실체로부터 분리한 각각의 total RNA를 이용하여 합성하였다. 특이적으로 발현된 유전자의 선별은 cDNA와 랜덤한 primer set을 이용한 DD-PCR에 의해 수행되었고, pGEM 클로닝 벡터를 이용하여 6개의 partial 유전자 서열을 확인하였다. 6개의 DD-PCR product는 보고된 유전자와 유사도를 확인하기 위해 NCBI BLAST search를 사용하여 GenBank에서 비교하였고, 6개의 유전자는 보고되지 않은 유전자임을 확인하였다.

        This study is to investigate the trend of researches on food and culture from 1990 to 2003. With a literary approach, this paper analyzes how many papers were published and what was the major research subject. We classified the journals published during this time into 10 different categories and we are to grasp a research trend. 1) Historical approach on the traditional food and food habit; 2) Globalization of Koran food; 3) Use and preparation for traditional food; 4) Table setting and table manner; 5) Provincial cuisine; 6) Traditional festive food or celebratory meal; 7) Religious food; 8) Fusion food; 9) Food and culture in foreign countries and food habit of Korean people living abroad; 10) Studies related with satins out. It was revealed that 268 papers(=ps) were published. Eating out was the most frequently reported subject(100 ps), followed by provincial cuisine(54 ps), use and preparation for traditional food(49 ps), food habit for foreign people and Korean people living abroad(22 ps). Researches on these 4 topics have been accelerated since the late half of 1990s. This reflects the social factors such as rapid growth of food service industry, settlement of local autonomy, popularization of leisure activities and accelerated introduction of foreign food and culture. Half of the studies on the eating out dealt with eating out behavior. And 30 papers were reports on the food service industry situations. More than half of the studies on the provincial cuisine(26 ps) were concentrated on digging out recipes. Studies on the use and preparation for traditional food were mainly about what kind of food and how often the food is used(17 ps). Kimchi was the most frequently studied food. There were 11 papers regarding food and culture in foreign countries. Most of the authors were historians or linguists. Food habit of Korean people living abroad were investigated in 7 papers. There was few studies on fusion food, table setting and table manner. This doesn't meet with increasing demand for specialized information in then fields. Researches on the traditional festive food or celebratory meal(5 ps) and religious food(9 ps) were negligible. Papers on the historical approach to the traditional food and food habit were limited(12 ps). Moreover, most of them were patchwork of existing literatures. Continuous researches to exploit the historical facts based on literary proof should be tried with patience. Otherwise, the papers will copy the hackneyed knowledge repeatedly. Globalization of Korean food means the development of Korean food for foreign people and export of them worldwide. Only 16 papers were reported on this subject, 14 of them were published after 2000, 8 of them were surveys on the foreigners' food preference. In order to get practical informations on what we develope and how we sell for the foreign customers, profound research on their food habit should be done.
