        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to estimate the reduction in traffic noise in a double-layered specific porous pavement at roadsides based on variations in traffic volume and driving speed. METHODS : A statistical pass-by (SPB) method was employed in this study to measure noise. Variations in the following parameters were measured: running speed, heavy traffic percentage, and traffic volume. RESULTS : Quantitative analysis revealed that the double-layered porous pavement reduced noise levels by 9.16 dB(A) at a 95% confidence level at the sides of roads. CONCLUSIONS : As a countermeasure of traffic noise, porous pavement has been recommended. This research quantitatively proved that double-layered porous pavement can reduce traffic noise by more than 9.0 dB(A) at roadsides

        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to estimate the reduction of traffic noise in a double-layered specific porous pavement based on the traffic speed variation. METHODS : The close-proximity method was used in noise measurement, and the running speed was measured at 10 km/h and from 50 to 80 km/h. RESULTS : From the quantitative analysis, it was found that the double-layered porous pavement reduced by 9.4 dB (A) on the average and 9.16 dB (A) at a 95% confidence level. CONCLUSIONS : The use of porous pavements have been recommended to minimize traffic noise. In this study, it is quantitatively demonstrated that the double-layered porous pavement can reduce the traffic noise by more than 9.0 dB(A).

        In this study, the fate and removal of 15 pharmaceuticals (including stimulants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, etc.) in unit processes of a sewage treatment plant (STP) were investigated. Mass loads of pharmaceuticals were 2,598 g/d in the influent, 2,745 g/d in the primary effluent, 143 g/d in the secondary effluent, and 134 g/d in the effluent. The mass loads were reduced by 95% in the biological treatment process, but total phosphorous treatment did not show a significant effect on the removal of most pharmaceuticals. Also, mass balance analysis was performed to evaluate removal characteristics of pharmaceuticals in the biological treatment process. Acetaminophen, caffeine, acetylsalicylic acid, cefradine, and naproxen were efficiently removed in the biological treatment process mainly due to biodegradation. Removal efficiencies of gemfibrozil, ofloxacin, and ciprofloxacin were not high, but their removal was related to sorption onto sludge. This study provides useful information on understanding removal characteristics of pharmaceuticals in unit processes in the STP.

        PURPOSES: The objective of this study is to evaluate and compare the stiffness characteristics and seasonal variation in surface deflections of block and asphalt pavements using the light weight deflectometer (LWD) and falling weight deflectometer (FWD). METHODS: LWD and FWD testing was conducted on block and asphalt pavement sections in a low-impact development facility, to evaluate the structural capacity and seasonal variation in asphalt pavements. To analyze the seasonal variation in stiffness characteristics, this testing was performed in October 2016, January 2017, and March 2017 in the same drop locations. RESULTS : It was found from that the average center deflections in the asphalt and block pavements were 218 ㎛ and 2974 ㎛, respectively. The center deflections measured using FWD testing in block pavement are 15 times those measured in asphalt pavement. It was also observed that LWD deflections in block pavements were decreased by approximately 65-90% as the air temperature dropped from 20 to 4℃. The degree of reduction in block pavement was significantly higher when compared with asphalt pavement, which showed a 25- 50% reduction in deflection. CONCLUSIONS: When using block pavements for roadways, the structural capacity of the pavement system should be considered during the design and construction stages. In block pavements, the use of low-quality material and insufficient compaction in the base and subgrade layers can induce a reduction in structural capacity, which would lead to the need for frequent repair work. A reinforcement underneath the block layer would be an appropriate measure for improving the structural support and extending the service life.

        PURPOSES : The purpose of this study is to compare noise reduction quantities between before/after two-layer low noise pavement implementation using equivalent noise level analysis and to analyze the noise reduction effects of the two layer low noise pavement with a statistical method such as the Anderson-Darling Test.METHODS: In order to compare and to analyze noise reduction effects between before/after two-layer low noise pavement implementation, data acquisition as noise levels on a roadside and an apartment rooftop was conducted in the study area. The equivalent noise level was estimated in order to compare noise reduction quantities and the Anderson-Darling Test was carried out for estimating noise reduction effects of the two-layer low noise pavement.RESULTS: The equivalent noise levels of before/after two-layer low noise pavement implementation for the roadside during the daytime are 65.355 dB and 63.520 dB and during the nighttime are 62.463 dB and 59.088 dB. The equivalent noise levels for the apartment rooftop during daytime are 57.301 dB and 59.088 dB and during the nighttime are 54.616 dB and 52.464 dB. Also two-layer low noise pavement decreased the noise reduction effects estimated with the statistical method as the Anderson-Darling test for the roadside during the daytime by around 66.68% and decreased noise reduction effects on the roadside during the nighttime by 0.70%. Moreover it reduced noise reduction effects in the apartment rooftop during the daytime and nighttime by 0% and 96.32%, respectively.CONCLUSIONS : Based on the result of this study, two-layer low noise pavement can positively affect noise reduction during both the daytime and nighttime according to the results of estimating the equivalent noise levels and the Anderson-Darling test.

        붉은곰팡이는 곰팡이독소를 생성하는 식물병원균으로 수확된 보리 알곡에 잔존하여 저장 중 적절한 환경이 조성 되면 곰팡이독소를 생성할 수 있다. 저장 중 겉보리의 저장온도와 곡물수분함량이 붉은곰팡이와 곰팡이독소 오염에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 전라도에서 수집한 겉보리 시료 3점의 수분함량을 14%와 20%로 조절한 후 온도 조절이 되지 않는 상온창고와 12oC 이하로 온도를 조절한 저온창고에 각각 저장하였다. 창고의 온도와 습도를 실시간으로 측정하면서 1, 3, 6, 12개월 후 시료의 수분함량, 붉은곰팡이와 곰팡이독소의 오염 정도를 조사하였다. 창고의 온·습도 조사결과 상온창고는 월별 평균온도가 최 저 3oC에서 최고 29oC였으며, 평균습도는 58~70% 인 반면 저온창고는 평균온도가 3~13oC 였으며, 평균습도는 62~74% 였다. 시료의 수분함량은 상온창고에서 감소하였으나 저온창고에서는 초기수분함량 14% 시료는 수분함량이 증가하였고, 초기수분함량 20% 시료는 감소하였다. 붉은곰팡이 오염립은 상온창고에서 저장기간이 경과할수록 감소하였으나 저온창고에서는 시료의 수분함량이 높아감 소폭이 적었다. 곰팡이독소는 대부분의 시료에서 저장 12 개월 후에는 상온창고에서 니발레놀이 더 많이 검출되었 으나 1, 3, 6개월에는 뚜렷한 차이가 없었다. 따라서 겉보리의 건조가 덜 된 경우 저온창고에 보관하는 것이 붉은 곰팡이의 오염을 줄이는데 효과적이며, 겉보리를 1년이상 장기 저장할 경우 저온창고에 보관해야 니발레놀의 오염을 줄일 수 있다.

        PURPOSES :This study aims to improve complex modeling of multivariable, nonlinear, and overdispersion data with an artificial neural network that has been a problem in the civil and transport sectors.METHODS :Deep learning, which is a technique employing artificial neural networks, was applied for developing a large bus fuel consumption model as a case study. Estimation characteristics and accuracy were compared with the results of conventional multiple regression modeling.RESULTS :The deep learning model remarkably improved estimation accuracy of regression modeling, from R-sq. 18.76% to 72.22%. In addition, it was very flexible in reflecting large variance and complex relationships between dependent and independent variables.CONCLUSIONS :Deep learning could be a new alternative that solves general problems inherent in conventional statistical methods and it is highly promising in planning and optimizing issues in the civil and transport sectors. Extended applications to other fields, such as pavement management, structure safety, operation of intelligent transport systems, and traffic noise estimation are highly recommended.

        This study was aimed to examine the potential of pre- and post-harvest treatment of chitosan and high pCO2 on the shelf-life of oriental melon fruit. Post-harvest dipping treatment of chitosan and high pCO2 did not bring any significant effect on the freshness of fruit in general, even at 1% of chitosan. Unlike post-harvest treatment, pre-harvest spray of chitosan significantly increased fruit firmness and firmness increase was higher in double sprays than single one. The internal quality such as soluble solid content and acidity was not altered by chitosan spray. No additional effect of high pCO2 with pre-harvest treatment of chitosan was found. Double sprays of chitosan showed significant effect on keeping visual appearance through delaying the incidence of skin browning. There was a potential of pre-harvest chitosan treatment on the shelf-life increase of oriental melon fruit and double sprays were better than single spray. However, high pCO2 seemed not to be effective on the storability of oriental melon fruit.

        The objective of this study was to optimize analytical methods for ochratoxin A (OTA) and zearalenone (ZEA) in rice straw silage and winter forage crops using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Samples free of mycotoxins were spiked with 50 μg/kg, 250 μg/kg, or 500 μg/kg of OTA and 300 μg/kg, 1500 μg/kg, or 3000 μg/kg of ZEA. OTA and ZEA were extracted by acetonitrile and cleaned-up using an immunoaffinity column. They were then subjected to analysis with UHPLC equipped with a fluorescence detector. The correlation coefficients of calibration curves showed high linearity (R2 ≧ 0.9999 for OTA and R2≧0.9995 for ZEA). The limit of detection and quantification were 0.1 μg/kg and 0.3 μg/kg, respectively, for OTA and 5 μg/kg and 16.7 μg/kg, respectively, for ZEA. The recovery and relative standard deviation (RSD) of OTA were as follows: rice straw = 84.23~95.33%, 2.59~4.77%; Italian ryegrass = 79.02~95%, 0.86~5.83%; barley = 74.93~97%, 0.85~9.19%; rye = 77.99~ 96.67%, 0.33~6.26%. The recovery and RSD of ZEA were: rice straw = 109.6~114.22%, 0.67~7.15%; Italian ryegrass = 98.01~109.44%, 1.65~4.81%; barley = 98~113.53%, 0.25~5.85%; rye = 90.44~108.56%, 2.5~4.66%. They both satisfied the standards of European Commission criteria (EC 401-2006) for quantitative analysis. These results showed that the optimized methods could be used for mycotoxin analysis of forages.

        OBJECTIVES : The objective of this study is to analyze the nonlinear behavior of block pavements using multi-load level falling weight deflectometer (FWD) deflections. METHODS: Recently, block pavements are employed not only in sidewalks, but also in roadways. For the application of block pavements in roadways, the structural capacities of subbase and subgrade are important factors that support the carry traffic load. Multi-load level FWD testing was conducted on block pavements to analyze their nonlinear behavior. The deflection ratio due to the increase in load was analyzed to estimate the nonlinearity of block pavements. Finite element method with nonlinear soil model was applied to simulate the actual nonlinear behavior of the block pavement under different levels of load. RESULTS: The results of the FWD testing show that the center deflections in block pavements are approximately ten times greater than that in asphalt pavements. The deflection ratios of the block pavement due to the increase in the load range from 1.2 to 1.5, indicating that the deflection increased by 20~50%. The material coefficients of the nonlinear soil model were determined by comparing the measured deflections with the predicted deflections using the finite element method. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, the nonlinear behavior of block pavements was reviewed using multi-load level FWD testing. The deflection ratio proposed in this study can estimate the nonlinearity of block pavements. The use of nonlinear soil model in subbase and subgrade increases the accuracy of predicting deflections in finite element method.

        PURPOSES : In this study, noise reduction effect of a two-layer porous asphalt pavement was investigated through site measurement and computer simulation. METHODS: To examine noise reduction effect, a 3 km long quiet pavement was installed by removing previous normal pavement, which had a rather low porosity. The studied site was a high-rise apartment building surrounded by the quiet pavement and Seoul ring road with heavy traffic volume, indicating relatively high background noise. RESULTS: The measurement result before and after installing the quiet pavement showed a noise reduction effect of 4.3 dB(A) at a distance of 7.5 m from the road. After validating the accuracy of simulation using SoundPLAN, the reduction in SPL(sound pressure level) at the facades by the quiet pavement was predicted by considering five different road conditions generating traffic noise from each road or in the combination of the quiet pavement and Seoul ring road. In the case of no noise from Seoul ring road, noise reduction at the facades was 4.2 dB(A) on average for 702 housing units. With background noise from Seoul ring road, however, the average SPL decreased to 2.0 dB(A). Regarding subjective response of noise, the number of housing units with a noise reduction of over 3 dB(A) was 229 out of 706 units (approximately 32%). For 77 housing units, the noise reduction was between 1~3 dB(A), while it was less than 1 dB(A) for 400 housing units. CONCLUSIONS: The overall result indicates that the quiet pavement is useful to reduce noise evenly at low and high floors compared to noise barriers, especially in the urban situation where background noise is low.

        보리, 밀 등에서 발생되는 붉은곰팡이병균(Fusarium)은 전세계적으로 분포하고 있으며 작물의 수확량을 감소시키고 품질을 저하시키는 원인이 된다. 특히, 곰팡이병균은 deoxynivalenol(DON), nivalenol(NIV), zearalenone(ZEA) 등과 같은 제2차 대사산물인 곰팡이 독소를 생성하여 사람과 가축에 치명적인 피해를 주기도 한다. 발암물질로 알려진 곰팡이독 소는 조리 및 가공 후에도 분해되지 않는 특성으로 인해 오염된 곡물을 미리 검출하여 폐기해야 그 피해를 막을 수 있다. 기존 곰팡이독소 검출을 위해서는 정확성이 높은 TLC, HPLC, ELISA 등을 사용하고 있지만 고가 장비 및 전문 인력이 요구되고 있으며 분석을 위해 장시간이 소요되는 단점이 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 1175∼2170 nm의 근적 외선(NIR) 파장대역을 가진 분광센서를 이용하여 곰팡이독소(DON)에 오염된 겉보리 시료의 농도를 예측하고자 하였 다. 겉보리 시료에 적용된 곰팡이독소(DON)의 농도별로 0, 10, 100, 10000 ppm으로 각각 20립씩 총 80립을 조제하였 다. 용매는 아세트나이트릴에 침지하였으며 질소를 이용하여 건조시켜 곰팡이 독소를 조제하였으며 NIR 분광센서를 이용하여 총 3회 반복 측정하였다. 겉보리의 농도별 곰팡이독소를 예측하기 위해서 교정 및 검정 PLSR(Partial least square regression) 모델을 개발하였으며 각각의 반사 스펙트럼 전처리별 R2, SEC, SEP 등의 값을 산출하여 예측성능을 비교하였다.

        PURPOSES: This study aimed to evaluate the performance of pavement management works and to develop a function for estimating the level of service (LOS) and cost of service (COS) for the systematic and quantitative management of pavement performance in the public sector. METHODS: The International Roughness Index (IRI) was used as the performance index for pavement management. Long-term pavement performance data for a period of 7 years (2007-2014) collected by the National Highway Pavement Management System and historical maintenance budget data published by the South Korean government were used to develop the LOS-COS function. Based on the function, a model for estimating the appropriate budget as well as the network conditions was suggested. RESULTS : There was high degree of correlation between pavement performance and the investment level (R = - 0.74). The developed LOS-COS function suggested that the unit cost to improve the network IRI to 1 m/km was 32.6 billion KRW. Further, the maintenance costs normalized with respect to the LOS levels were LOS-A = 88.2 billion KRW, LOS-B = 55.6 billion KRW, and LOS-C = 23.0 billion KRW. CONCLUSIONS: This study proposes a simple way of developing a LOS-COS function. It also shows how to develop a network budget demand and condition estimation model using the LOS-COS function. In addition, it is the first attempt to evaluate the road maintenance budget in South Korea. It is expected that these results will help in the negotiations between the road managers and budget makers.

        맥류에서 발생되는 붉은곰팡이병균(Fusarium)의 제2차 대사산물인 deoxynivalenol (DON), nivalenol (NIV), zearalenone (ZEA) 등과 같은 곰팡이 독소는 수확후 처리과정에서 소멸되는 경우도 있지만 이미 생성된 독소들은 농산물에 잔류 하게 된다. 발암물질로 알려진 곰팡이독소는 열에 안정적인 특성으로 인해 조리 및 가공 후에도 분해되지 않기 때문 에 오염된 농산물이나 식품을 사전에 선별하여 폐기하는 것이 중요하다. 기존 곰팡이독소 검출을 위해 사용되는 방법 으로는 Thin layer chromatography (TLC)법과 HPLC법이 있으며 최근 aflatoxin 등을 비롯한 주요 곰팡이독소 분석용으 로 효소면역분석법(ELISA)이 도입되고 있다. 이러한 화학분석법의 경우에 정확성은 높지만 분석에 대한 전체적인 과 정을 수행하기 위해서는 고가의 장비와 전문 인력이 요구되고 있으며 최종 결과를 획득하기 위해서 장시간이 소요되 는 단점이 있으며 다량의 시료를 분석하기에는 한계가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 근적외선 분광 기술을 적용하여 곰팡이독소(DON)에 오염된 겉보리 시료와 정상시료를 신속하게 판별하기 위해 수행되었다. 겉보리 시료에 적용된 곰 팡이독소(DON)의 농도는 0, 1, 10, 100 ppm으로 하였으며 용매는 물을 이용하였고 1, 12, 24시간 동안 초음파, 진탕, 정치의 3가지 방법을 이용하여 독소를 침투시켰다. 각각의 처리조건별로 15립의 겉보리 시료를 조제하였으며 파장대 역이 1,175~2,170 nm 분광센서를 이용하여 3회 반복 측정하였다. 오염됨 시료와 정상시료를 판별하기 위해서 PLS-DA (Partial least square discrimination analysis) 모델을 개발하였으며 물에 정치하여 조제한 100 ppm 곰팡이독소 감염 겉보리 시료와 정상 시료에 있어서 정상에 대한 판별율은 100%였으나 감염 시료에 대한 판별율은 34.6%로서 저 조하였다.

        붉은곰팡이병균(Fusarium)은 맥류의 출수기에 많은 비가 내려 습도가 높거나 기온이 10~25℃ 환경 조건에서 병원균 이 급속하게 증식되어 발생 빈도가 증가하게 되는 특징이 있다. 이러한 붉은곰팡이병균에 감염된 피해 이삭은 껍질이 갈색으로 변색되고 분생포자 형태의 붉은색 곰팡이로 뒤덮이게 된다. 붉은곰팡이병균에 감염된 곡물은 수량이 감소되 고 품질이 저하되어 경제적 손실을 일으키게 되어 이를 사전에 신속하게 판별할 수 있는 기술 개발이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 붉은곰팡이병균에 감염된 겉보리 시료와 정상 겉보리 시료를 가시광선 및 근적외선(visible and near-infrared; VNIR) 초분광 영상 시스템을 이용하여 비파괴적이고 신속하게 판별하기 위해 수행되었다. 붉은곰팡이병균에 감염된 겉보리 시료는 총 298립이고 대조군(control)로 사용한 정상 겉보리 시료는 총 127립을 사용하였다. VNIR 초분광 영상 시스템은 파장대역이 403~998 nm이고 시스템의 구성은 EMCCD 카메라, 영상분광기(imaging spectrograph), 할로겐 램 프, C 마운트 렌즈, 시료대 등으로 구성되었다. 모든 시료는 종구(groove)를 기준으로 앞면과 뒷면을 구분하여 측정하였 으며 획득한 초분광 영상은 배경을 제거하여 겉보리 시료에 대한 관심영역(ROI)을 추출하였다. 정상 및 감염 시료를 판별하기 위한 최적 파장대역의 선발은 분산분석(ANOVA)을 적용하였으며 선발된 최적 파장 대역은 문턱값을 이용하 여 이치화 영상으로 변환하여 오염 겉보리 검출에 대한 판별률을 계산하였다. VNIR 초분광 영상 시스템을 이용하여 붉은곰팡이병균에 감염된 다수의 겉보리 시료를 비파괴적이고 신속하게 검출할 수 있는 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

        This study was conducted in autumn to determine phosphorus (P) fraction in sediments of Daechung Lake, to elucidate controlling factors for sedimentary P, and to compare with the other areas. For this study, sediment samples were collected at 6 sites only once on November 2014 using ponar grab and analyzed for solid-phase P (Loosely adsorbed, Fe-bound, Al-bound, detrital apatite, and refractory organic P) by sequential extraction. Total phosphorus (TP) was relatively high in front of Daechung Dam and Hoinam where fish farm was run until 1997. The dominant sedimentary P form was Al-bound P, followed by Fe-bound P, which could be released from sediment to water column during suboxic state. Based on principal component analysis, Al-bound P, Fe-bound, and TP were controlled by grain size of sediments. Loosely adsorbed, detrital apatite, and refractory organic P were relatively highly accumulated at the mouth of major tributaries where suspended sediments were delivered. Sedimentary P concentrations in Daechung Lake sediments were not higher than in other lake sediments. Therefore, based on these results, major controlling factors were grain size and input of suspended sediments from tributaries.

        PURPOSES: This paper aims at the implementation of a balanced scorecard that can be widely applied to modern business management for use in the public road management sector. METHODS: This study applied the newly developed LOS-based balanced scorecard system instead of a traditional Key Performance Index (KPI) for better decision making in asset management planning. As an evaluation technique, a“ hierarchical alignment and cascading method” is also suggested. Finally, the suggested system has been empirically applied to a regional government. RESULTS : To provide stable and sustainable road services, the balanced scorecard informs the regional government of needed improvements in its asset management plans regarding budget optimization, structural management, the development of inner-business processes, and human resources. CONCLUSIONS : An LOS-based balanced scorecard for managing road services and organizations in a quantitative manner has been successfully developed and tested through a field study. The developed scorecard is a timely topic and a useful analytical tool for coping with the new phases of an aging infrastructure, tighter budgets, and demand for greater public accountability.
