        Cyanobium is a genus of picoprokaryotic cyanophytes, which includes species worldwide. The present study investigated the morphology, ultrastructure, and molecular phylogeny of the unrecorded genus Cyanobium Rippka & Cohen-Bazire 1983 and species Cyanobium gracile Rippka & Cohen-Bazire 1983. A C. gracile culture from a freshwater sample collected from the Adongji pond was established by singlecell isolation. Morphological data were analyzed using light and transmission electron microscopy. C. gracile lives as solitary cells without gelatinous envelopes and is ovate, oval, or shortly rod-shaped. Thylakoids are laid along the cell walls, with three thylakoid membranes parallel to each other. Nucleoplasm was observed in the center of the cell. Molecular phylogeny performed with data from 16S small subunit ribosomal DNA gene (SSU rDNA) sequences showed that the three strains of C. gracile, including the type strain (PCC6307) and a newly recorded strain (Adong101619), formed a distinct clade with a high supporting value (maximum-likelihood=100, pp=1.00). Based on morphology and molecular data, we report the newly recorded C. gracile in Korea.

        The genus Petroderma never been reported from the coast of Korea. In this study, our collection from Chaeseokang is matched with P. maculiforme morphologically. Petroderma maculiforme is characterized by having small irregular light to dark brown crusts, a basal layer of irregularly shaped cells giving rise to erect parallel filaments which easily separate with pressure, single chromatophore per cell, small spherical to cylindrical unilocular sporangia in a terminal position, and plurilocular sporangia narrower than erect filaments or wider and shorter than erect filaments in a terminal position. In addition, Hineksia sordida was also collected from Korea. It is mostly epiphytic and characterized by uniseriate filamentous thalli forming loose tangled masses, sparse and spiral branching, some long lateral branches, rhizoids occurring throughout the plant, plurilocular and unilocular sporangia scattered on separate plants. Our molecular analyses based on the rbcL gene reveal that our samples of P. maculiforme and H. sordida are nested within the clades of Petroderma and Hincksia, respectively. Therefore P. maculiforme and H. sordida are reported as new records from Korea based on morphological and molecular analyses.

        Rhodomonas salina is a phototrophic marine flagellate. We examined the ultrastructure of R. salina with particular attention to the flagellar apparatus by transmission electron microscopy and compared it with that of other cryptomonads reported previously. The major components of the flagellar apparatus in R. salina were a keeled rhizostyle (Rhs), a striated fibrous root (SR), a SR-associated microtubular root (SRm), a mitochondrion-associated lamella (ML), and three types of microtubular roots (9r, 4r, and 2r). The keeled Rhs originated near the proximal end of the dorsal basal body, passed near the nucleus and dissociated at the posterior end of the cell. The SR and SRm originated between two basal bodies and laterally extended to the right side of the cell. The ML originated between two basal bodies and extended to the left side of the cell. The 9r originated between the ventral basal body and the Rhs and extended toward the anterior dorsal lobe of the cell. The 4r originated near the 9r and extended toward the dorsal lobe with the 2r, which originated between two basal bodies. Here, the flagellar apparatus in R. salina is described, and the ultrastructure of the flagellar apparatus is compared among cryptomonad species.

        A eukaryotic marine microalga was isolated from Jungmun Saekdal Beach, Jeju Island, Korea and an integrated approach, including molecular phylogeny and morphology, was used to determine its taxonomical status. Molecular phylogenetic evidence inferred from the small subunit (SSU) 18S rRNA sequence and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) secondary structure analysis clearly showed that the isolate belonged to the recently described species, Jaagichlorella roystonensis. Distinctive morphological keys of the species were also observed by light microscopy and scanning/ transmission electron microscopy (S/TEM). In this study, a Korean marine J. roystonensis species was described for the first time and was subsequently added to the national culture collections in Korea.

        A eukaryotic microalga was isolated from seawater in Janghang Harbor, Korea and its morphological, molecular, and physiological characteristics were investigated. Due to its simple morphology, no distinctive characters were found by morphological observation, such as light microscope or scanning/transmission electron microscopy (S/ TEM). However, molecular phylogenetic evidence inferred from the concatenated small subunit (SSU) 18S rRNA and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequence data indicated that the isolate belonged to the newly described Micractinium singularis. Furthermore, it was clustered with Antarctic Micractinium strains and it also showed a psychrotolerant property, surviving at temperatures as low as 5°C. However, its optimal growth temperatures range from 15°C to 25°C, indicating that this microalga is a mesophile. Additionally, gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis showed that the isolate was rich in nutritionally important omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid, and high-performance liquid chromatography analysis (HPLC) revealed that the high-value antioxidant lutein was biosynthesized as an accessory pigment by this microalga, with glucose as the major monosaccharide. Therefore, in this study, a Korean marine M. singularis species was discovered, characterized, and described. It was subsequently added to the national culture collections.

        충청북도농업기술원에서는 연한 분홍색의 향기가 있고, 꽃수가 많으며, 개화기간을 오래 지속할 수 있는 속간 교배종 난 ‘핑키뷰티’를 육성하였다. 신품종 ‘핑키뷰티’는 2007년 Phal. pulcherrima × Phal. parishii 교배종을 모본으로, Neof. falcata ‘Hwacheon’을 부본으로, 속간교배하였다. 종자 발아, 재배, 선발, 특성검정은 2008년부터 2014년까지 진행되었다. 생육이 좋고 꽃의 색, 모양이 우수한 계통을 선발 한후, 2015년부터 2017년까지 3년에 걸쳐 국립종자원 신품종 심사기준으로 특성검정 결과, 우수성이 인정되어 2018년 최종 선발하여 “핑키뷰티”로 명명하였다. 주요 특성은 다음과 같다. 화색은 연분홍색으로 Red-purple Group 68D(RHS칼라차트)이며, 향기가 있고 화경색은 암록색이다. 식물체 크기는 12.7cm로 대조품종과 큰 차이를 보이지 않았다. 잎의 폭은 1.6cm로 대조품종인 P. pulcherrima에 비해 좁은 편이다. 화경장은 25.8 cm이며, 소화수는 16.3개로, 전반적으로 화분의 볼륨감이 우수한 편이다. 꽃의 크기는 2.5cm 정도이며, 꽃의 순판 뒤쪽에 풍란과 같은 짧은 거가 있는 것이 특징이다. 개화기는 5월 하순이며, 개화기간은 34일 정도이다.

        In the summer season, natural ventilation is commonly used to reduce the inside air temperature of greenhouse when it rises above the optimal level. The greenhouse shape, vent design, and position play a critical role in the effectiveness of natural ventilation. In this study, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was employed to investigate the effect of different roof vent designs along with side vents on the buoyancy-driven natural ventilation. The boussinesq hypothesis was used to simulate the buoyancy effect to the whole computational domain. RNG K-epsilon turbulence model was utilized, and a discrete originates (DO) radiation model was used with solar ray tracing to simulate the effect of solar radiation. The CFD model was validated using the experimentally obtained greenhouse internal temperature, and the experimental and computed results agreed well. Furthermore, this model was adopted to compare the internal greenhouse air temperature and ventilation rate for seven different roof vent designs. The results revealed that the inside-to-outside air temperature differences of the greenhouse varied from 3.2 to 9.6oC depending on the different studied roof vent types. Moreover, the ventilation rate was within the range from 0.33 to 0.49 min-1. Our findings show that the conical type roof ventilation has minimum inside-to-outside air temperature difference of 3.2oC and a maximum ventilation rate of 0.49 min-1.

        Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is considered the major cause of mortality in the world. Tremendous animal studies are performed to develop novel therapeutics, and this study aimed to induce porcine myocardial infarction model by using polyethylene terephthalate (PET). Coronary guidewire was placed in left anterior descending artery (LAD). The balloon angioplasty catheter was inserted at the back of the PET. The balloon catheter was carefully pushed forward, until the balloon marker was located in mid-LAD. Coronary angiography was performed pre- and post-occlusion at 28 days by C-arm. Histologic analysis of heart tissue was performed 28 days after inducing AMI. Thirty three pigs were anesthetized and underwent percutaneous coronary catheterization. All pigs were successfully embolized in mid-LAD by PET. Fifteen pigs died due to ventricular fibrillation during post-anesthetic recovery time, and overall experiment mortality was 45.5%. In 2,3,5- triphenyl tetrazolium chloride staining, gross finding of the ischemic heart lesion showed firm and white area of infarction associated with the apex and left ventricular posterior wall. Infarct on H&E-stained sections demonstrated a region without myocytes and rich with cardiomyocyte with atypical nuclei. Successful induction of AMI by using PET may provide the pathophysiological information of ischemic heart disease and improvement of therapy development for AMI.

        본 연구는 현대인들의 실내식물 기르기에 따른 삶의 질에 대한 관심도, 삶의 만족도 및 실내식물 기르기에 대한 인식을 알아보고자 국내 성인남녀 387명을 대상으로 설문조사를 진행하였다. 실내식물을 기르는 응답자들이 실내식물을 기르지 않는 응답자들에 비해 삶의 질에 대한 관심도, 삶의 만족도, 일반적인 식물 및 실내식물 관심도 모두 높은 것으로 나타났다. 또한, 삶의 질에 대한 관심도가 높을 수록 삶의 만족도, 식물 관심도, 실내식물 관심도가 높은 것으로 나타났다 (p<0.001). 실내식물을 기르는 사람들의 실내식물을 기르는 이유로는 그냥 식물을 좋아한다는 원인이 가장 높게 나타났으며, 쾌적한 실내환경 조성을 위해 기르는 기능적인 측면도 높은 요인으로 나타났다. 또한, 실내식물을 기를 때 일상 생활에 방해가 되지 않으면서도 실내 분위기를 아늑하고 좋게 만들어 주는 측면에서 실내식물 기르기 만족도가 높은 것으로 나타났다. 실내식물을 기르지 않는 응답자들의 기르지 않는 이유는 식물에 대한 재배 지식 및 경험 부족이 가장 큰 원인으로 나타났으며, 흙이나 식물을 만지는 것을 싫어하거나 식물에 대한 알레르기가 있어서 기르기를 꺼려하는 것은 아닌 것으로 나타났다. 실내식물 기르기에 상관 없이 실내식물의 쾌적한 실내환경 조성 및 실내 인테리어 효과에 대하여는 긍정적으로 인지하고 있었다. 실내식물을 기르고 있는 사람들의 향후 실내식물 기르기 의향은 실내식물을 기르지 않는 사람에 비해 높게 나타나, 실내식물을 길러본 경험이 없는 사람들의 가장 큰 문제는 재배 지식의 부재로 인한 경험 부족으로 판단되며, 이를 위해 향후 손쉬운 실내식물 기르기에 대한 교육 홍보가 필요할 것으로 보인다. 이는 현대의 새로운 트렌드로 주목받고 있는 ‘반려식물’ 관련 상품 개발과 원예교육 프로그램 개발을 통하여 실내식물 기르기에 대한 인식을 높이고, 국내 원예 산업의 확장을 가져올 것으로 기대할 수 있을 것이다.

        The embryonic genome activation (EGA) is genetically activated states that embryos make the materials such as growth factors for using themselves. EGA is various because they have many materials, different site, different stage, also different species. At this time, transcription factors are expressed. Transcription factors bind to specific DNA region, and regulate the gene expression. Thus, we check the expression of transcription factors, we can know that embryo development is very well or not. The development stages of embryos are basically the stages from fertilization to blastocyst. So, we check the embryos oocyte to blastocyst. In our experiments, we focus the early developmental transcription factors such as Cdx2, Oct4, Sox2, Nanog and E-Cadherin. Above antibody factors showed different expression sites, and there were many differentiated parts from other animal species. In addition, we compared the SCNT and parthenogenetic activation (PA) because these are same methods using electrical activation among the embryo production methods. Our results showed not only similar patterns but also different patterns between pig and mouse. Therefore, we have to investigate that different patterns of transcription factors play a role in pigs, and why occur.

        In porcine production, porcine litter size is a quantitative trait and its heritability is especially low. So it is necessary to identify porcine reproductive gene and protein. The establishment of pregnancy requires performance of a receptive endometrium and ovary. The endometrium and ovary go through transformations in response to physiological changes initiated by local factors including ovarian hormones and uterine environment that make it for possible pregnancy. The endometrium and ovary secrete a wide array of growth factors, cytokines and proteins. Based on these background, we analyzed the endometrial tissue protein of porcine and would find out biomarker proteins related to porcine litter size. We sorted the two groups according to litter size of porcine: a small litter size group (SLSG) (n=2) and a large litter size group (LLSG) (n=2). The porcine endometrial tissue and ovary samples were preprocessed for proteomic analysis. In order to comparison, samples of each 2mg endometrium protein and ovary protein were separated form pI and molecular weight in the same conditions by applying a pH 3.0-10.0 IPG gels for the first dimension and then 8-16% SDS-PAGE gel for the second dimension. After proteins were visualized by staining with Commassie brilliant blue (CBB), image analysis was performed with Image Master detect variations in protein spots between large litter size group and small litter size group endometrium. And then differential proteins were identified using MALDI-TOF analysis. The master images of 2-DE gel images obtained from 2mg samples of large litter size group and small litter size group endometrial proteins at pH 3.0-10.0 revealed more than 400 protein spots in pH 3.0-10.0 range. When we analyzed the levels of expression of proteins that protein spots appeared more than 1.5-fold difference in endometrial tissue from porcine. In comparison of SLSG(small litter size group) with LLSG(large litter size group), a total of 18 protein spots differentially expressed on porcine endometrial tissue 2-DE gels, among which 9 spots were up-regulated proteins as retinol dehydrogenase 16-like isoform 1, Acrosin-binding protein, alpha-N-acetylgalactosaminidase. phosphoglycerate kinase 2, Acrosin-binding protein in LLSG. And 8 spots were up-regulated proteins as phosphoglycerate kinase 2, prenylcysteine oxidase in SLSG.
