In this study, in order to confirm the machining characteristics of AISI 1020 CD-Bar, cutting was performed after strength measurement, and surface roughness analysis was performed according to cutting conditions. Tensile strength was reduced by about 27.7% compared to AISI 1045 material, and Rockwell hardness HRC was reduced by 46.7%. The surface roughness measurement after cutting was divided into roughing, semi-finishing and finishing turning. In particular, in finishing machining, the best surface roughness was confirmed when the cutting speed was 150m/min and the depth of cut was 0.6mm based on the feed rate of 0.05mm/rev.
Recently, halogen lamps for vehicle exterior lamp systems are being replaced by LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) in consideration of miniaturization, power consumption, life, luminance, and eco-friendliness. Due to regulations on the amount of light required, luminance, light uniformity, and glare prevention, it is required to develop a light guide for controlling a light source of an LED lamp for a vehicle. For the development of the light guides, the development of machining technology that can cut micro patterns of hundreds of micrometers scale into surface roughness of tens of nanometers scale must be preceded. In this study, the effect of variations in cutting conditions on surface roughness was analyzed through experiments. The micro patterns was manufactured by cutting into STAVAX material, and the surface of the micro patterns was super-finished using a ball-shaped PCD (polycrystalline diamond) tool without flutes. In experiments, the cutting conditions of the super-finishing process were varied, and the varied cutting conditions were feed rate, radial depth of cut, and spindle speed
CNC cutting process has been mainly used for processing metal materials, and wood processing is also changing to machining by CNC machine. But the researches on the CNC machining of wood and its characteristics were rarely carried out.
In this study, we analyzed the machined surface according to the cutting conditions such as the cutting direction, spindle speed, feed rate, cutting depth, chip removal in the CNC machining of wood. The consideration of cutting conditions and their effects on the surface finish will provide possibilities for improving the wood machining processes.
Cutting tools tend to wear gradually with progressing of machining process due to extremely high surface loads and temperature from the relative motions between tool and workpiece. Especially, the high cutting temperature is a dominant factor in the relation to tool life. High-pressure coolant has been reported as an effective method to prevent the severe wear from cutting temperature. This research investigates efficient supplying conditions of high-pressure coolant with the CFD results from a internal-flush drilling process. The flow rate of coolant is increased drastically up to three times under 70 bar compared to conventional way.
We have studied methods to save Si source during the fabrication process of crystalline Si solar cells. One way is to use a thin silicon wafer substrate. As the thickness of the wafers is reduced, mechanical fractures of the substrate increase with the mechanical handling of the thin wafers. It is expected that the mechanical fractures lead to a dropping of yield in the solar cell process. In this study, the mechanical properties of 220-micrometer-solar grade Cz p-type monocrystalline Si wafers were investigated by varying saw-damage etching conditions in order to improve the flexural strength of ultra-thin monocrystalline Si solar cells. Potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution and tetramethyl ammonium hydroxide (TMAH) solution were used as etching solutions. Etching processes were operated with a varying of the ratio of KOH and TMAH solutions in different temperature conditions. After saw-damage etching, wafers were cleaned with a modified RCA cleaning method for ten minutes. Each sample was divided into 42 pieces using an automatic dicing saw machine. The surface morphologies were investigated by scanning electron microscopy and 3D optical microscopy. The thickness distribution was measured by micrometer. The strength distribution was measured with a 4-point-bending tester. As a result, TMAH solution at 90˚C showed the best performance for flexural strength.
Polyacetal resin is usually used to make molds, but it is difficult to achieve dimension accuracy during molding. Therefore it is usually necessary to cut the polyacetal resin after a molding process. Polyacetal resin is easily machining by standard machine tool. Acetal is also a thermal stable material which can be totted without coolant Another concern about the use of polyacetal resin is that it absorbs water easily, which also results in problems with dimension accuracy Therefore, in this study, the cutting resistance of water-absorbed polyacetal resin and its surface roughness after cutting in order to achieve the highest degree of accuracy in the cutting of polyacetal resin were investigated. Also, The Robust Design method uses a mathematical tool called orthogonal arrays to study a large number of decision variables with a small number of experiments. It also uses a new measure of quality, called signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio, to predict the quality from the customer's perspective. Thus, we have taken Taguchi's parameter design approach, specifically orthogonal array, and determined the optimal levels of the selected variables through analysis of the experimental results using S/N ratio.
Recently micro deep hole drilling is required in the whole industry. However, micro deep hole drilling has still much difficulty because of the lack of drill rigidity and the interruption of chip. We treated a micro deep hole(diameter 0.35mm, depth 3mm) used in a connector jack pin. Therefore, a surface roughness is very important. In this paper, we studied on the variation of the surface roughness for cutting conditions during micro deep hole drilling of Be-Cu material. Most of all, we tried to drill on CNC for the realization of automatization.
A study to analyze and solve problems of polyacetal resin cutting experiment has presented in this paper. We have taken Taguchi's parameter design approach, specifically orthogonal array, and determined the optimal levels of the selected variables through analysis of the experimental results using S/H ratio.
