        한국이 인태전략 발표 이후 이를 효과적으로 추진하기 위해서는 지역 안보 분야에서 한국이 더 많은 부담을 감당하기를 바라는 미국의 기대를 어떻게 관리하는가의 문제가 현안으로 부상할 것이다. 미국은 공식적으 로 동맹을 바탕으로 한반도를 넘어 인태지역 전체에서 자유와 평화, 그 리고 번영을 위해 협력해야 함을 강조해왔다. 더구나 한국도 자신의 인 태전략을 발표하면서 역내에 기여와 역할을 약속했다. 이제 양국의 관심 은 한국의 역내 군사적 관여에 집중될 것이다. 본 연구는 미국이 역내 군사 적 관여를 요청해올 때 한미동맹의 비대칭적 관계 속에서 미국과의 협상 전략을 도출하고자 한다. 양면게임이론을 바탕으로 과거 유사 협상 사례를 분석하여 비 준과 윈셋이 협상 전략에 미치는 함의를 끌어내고자 하였다. 비준(국익 기여와 동맹 분담 관점에서 국내 집단 간 논쟁하면서 여론을 수렴하는)은 상대국과의 협 상에서 전략이 될 수 있다. 윈셋(국내에서 양보하거나 혹은 상대의 양보를 끌어 낼 수 있는)도 전략으로 유용할 것이다.

        2020년 9월, 중국과 바티칸은 2018년에 있었던 잠정합의를 2년 더 연장하기로 의견의 일치를 보았다. 주지하고 있듯, 중국과 바티칸의 관계 정상화를 위한 협상과정에 있어 가장 중요한 핵심 사안은 바로 주교임명과 관련된 것이다. 그런데 중국은 1958년 이래 자선자성(自选自圣)의 원칙 아래 자체적으로 주교를 선출해 왔었고, 최근 에는 「종교사무조례」로 대표되는 종교관련 법률에 근거하여 종교에 대한 통제를 강화해 왔었다. 그리고 중국은 바티칸과의 협상 가능성을 천명한 2005년부터 최근까지 주교선출 관련 법규를 개정하거나 새로이 제정 해오고 있다. 본고는 중국·바티칸 수 교협상의 현안과 쟁점을 살펴본 뒤, 수교협상의 핵심 사안인 주교임명과 관련된 중국의 법률을 살펴보고자 한다. 이는 비공개적으로 진행되었던 중국·바티칸 협상의 성격과 향후 협상의 과정을 이해하는데 도움이 되리라 기대된다.

        Bilateral relationships between Malaysia and Indonesia have always been cordial, augmented largely by their shared ethno-cultural, value and religious affinity. Cooperation and collaboration initiatives and arrangement between the two countries are well-established in various fields, ranging from security, economic and trade, health to education. However, these friendly bilateral relationships have been occasionally marred by diplomatic frictions and protests arising from their disputes over overlapping claims to maritime territory and boundary. Among the most notable, intractable on-going maritime territorial and boundary disputes between the two countries occur in the Malacca Straits. In resolving these particularly dispute, diplomatic negotiation has been the most common and if not, the only dispute resolution mechanism adopted by the two countries. What make the scope of this study departs from the existing literature is the focus placed on examining the process of diplomatic negotiations between Malaysia and Indonesia for amicable resolution of the disputes. Diplomatic negotiation is arguably the preferred method to delimit contested maritime boundaries as it has its own advantages compare to other alternative peaceful methods. This qualitative study uses content analysis approach to investigate and appraise the background and process of diplomatic negotiation between Malaysia and Indonesia to reach final settlement of their territorial area and boundary disputes in the Malacca Straits. In analyzing the case, the theoretical tools used are negotiation theory, and bilateral theory. The selected respondents for this study are comprised of experts and practitioners attached to government agencies such as Maritime Malaysia Enforcement Agency and Institute Diplomacy and Foreign Relation. Then, content analysis is applied to the coding process. The research finding reveal that the status of diplomatic negotiation between the government of Malaysia and Indonesia are still ongoing, with the immediate final resolution of the disputes remains to be seen. The contribution of this study lies in providing the strong facts and the real status about territorial dispute at Strait of Malacca between Malaysia and Indonesia and also the process of diplomatic negotiation between Malaysia and Indonesia in settlement the territorial dispute at Strait of Malacca.

        고구려ㆍ백제ㆍ신라 삼국시대는 한국 서예의 시작점이다. 그 중에 고구려는 중국과의 교섭에서 비교적 일찍 한자문화를 받아들이고, 민족의 심미관을 융합해 자신만의 풍격을 갖춘 서예를 형성하였다. 고구려는 동북아의 강국으로서, ‘지역 문화 거점’ 역할을 하여서 신 라ㆍ백제ㆍ일본의 서예에도 적지 않은 영향을 주었다. 멸망한 후에도 고구려 서풍이 여전히 통일신라시대와 일본에 부분적으로 지속되었 다. 당나라에서 돌아온 귀족과 그 자손들은 여전히 ‘구양순체(歐陽詢 體)’를 숭상하였는데, 유민 묘지명에 대부분 구양순체의 풍격으로 이루어졌다. 고구려 서예의 대외교섭을 연구하는 것은 한국서예 대외교섭의 시 발점이며, 한국서예 연구의 기초 작업이기도 하다. 나아가 이를 바탕으로 삼아 한국서예의 대외교섭에 관한 다양한 연구가 이루어진다면 보람이 될 것이다.

        This article analyzes the Sino-US Summit in Osaka in 2019 and its influence on trade negotiations between China and the US in the near future. By a look at the reports from China’s side and the US’ side, the article figures out what has been agreed and what are the most controversial issues on table. Having an observation of the new development after the Summit, the article tries to analyze the direction and ways forwards for the Sino-US trade talks, and make predictions based on a certain of factors including challenges faced by the US, the need of China as well as the attitude of the world. It is easy to figure out that agricultural products and the supply of equipment relating to Huawei were the key points at issue in the Sino-US Summit as well as in the future. The exchange and compromises are necessary between China and the US regardless of whether they are happy to admit it or not.

        The current study explores the effects of different types of voice-based chat on EFL students’ negotiation of meaning according to proficiency levels. Participants included 123 Korean university students of English. They were divided into two voice-based chat groups: student-student voice-based chat and student-chatterbot voice-based chat. The experiment was administered throughout one semester, 16 weeks. Negotiation of meaning evident in the chats was coded for confirmation check, comprehension check, clarification requests, repetition, and reformulation, and was measured by counting the number of meaning negotiation moves. Important findings were as follows: Firstly, there were significant differences between the first chat and the last chat. The mean frequencies of negotiation moves at all proficiency levels positively changed over time as a result of participating in student-chatterbot voice-based chat. Particulalry, student-chatterbot voice-based chat, as compared to student-student voice-based chat, allowed students to use more negotiation strategies, and the strategies used in the chats also appeared to be different according to the students’ proficiency levels. Lastly, positive perceptions of voice-based chat were observed at all proficiency levels. This study provides empirical evidence to substantiate the effects of voice-based chatterbots in oral interaction. Based on the findings, pedagogical implications are made on the effective implementation of voice-based chatterbots in EFL contexts.

        Large retailers use strategic alliances with suppliers in order to obtain customized distribution services from the suppliers. Forming strategic alliances with large retailers requires suppliers to make relationship-specific investments in the retailers. Transaction cost analysis suggests that the investments create a potential of hold up and discourage suppliers from forming the alliance. This study considers that regulatory focus of suppliers is a determinant of forming strategic alliance. It hypothesizes that promotion-focused suppliers are likely to accept an uncertain alliance with larger retailers even if it requires them to make relationship-specific investments. On the other hand, it is suggested that prevention-focused suppliers are unlikely to accept the same offer under the same conditions.

        Moon-Young Lee’s transcendence ethics are compared to Pondy’s (1962) conflict episode and Fisher, Ury, and Patton’s (2011) principled negotiation. Lee’s nonviolence, like conflict episode, posits various phases of a conflict between the weak and the strong and requires the weak to persevere with persecution and wait patiently for the right time. Like principled negotiation, Lee’s nonviolence adheres to rationality and objective standards without release of emotional enmity. Personal ethic to obtain knowledge and pursue agreement is consistent with principled negotiation, which suggests inventing options for mutual gain. Social ethic and self-sacrifice do not appear in conflict episode and principled negotiation. A conflict episode, “Lieutenant‘s Gentle Revolt,” illustrates how Lee’s nonviolence and principled negotiation can be effectively applied, especially to a bureaucratic model of conflict in which the counterpart is bad and powerful. Lee’s nonviolence is a likely choice for those who do not have power and who are persecuted by the strong, but must deal with violence of the strong. In fact, nonviolence, although sounding only theoretical and idealistic, provides practical and realistic guidance for conflict management.

        Cho Hye-jin. 2016. “Negotiation of Meaning in Computer-Mediated Communication in Relation to Task Types”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 24(1). 271~309. The present study aims to explore how negotiation of meaning occurs in a task-based CMC among ESL students. Paired with one another, 18 ESL students were asked to engage in online discussion once a week for 3 weeks in order to complete 3 types of language task: jigsaw, information-gap, and decision-making tasks. The finding shows that only a few examples (11%) contributed to negotiation routines. Twenty-one percent of the negotiation routines were identified as modified interactions. The information-gap task elicited the most negotiation routines. However, what the students perceived was different from the numerical results regarding task types. They reported that the jigsaw was the most intriguing and beneficial task rather than the information-gap. Relatively little negotiation routine can be attributed to learner perceptions of tasks. Learner behaviors such as not asking questions, their eagerness to proceed with the task, and face-saving action were observed as efforts to maintain social communication. Sending segmented messages instead of complete sentences was found as a face-saving action as well.

        Finding the balance between economic development and preservation of the natural environment is a challenging yet important task. This is a particularly pressing issue in the case of China, as it is the largest and fastest-growing market for tourism. The purpose of this research is to examine Chinese tourists’ participation in nature-based, tourism activities by incorporating tourists’ environmental attitude, measured by the New Environmental Paradigm (NEP) scale, into a tourism constraint-negotiation model. The responses of 112 Chinese tourists were examined through CFA. The results from structural equation modeling show environmental attitude will positively affect tourists’ motivation, which, in turn, will affect their negotiation strategy and ultimately their participation behavior. On the other hand, constraints on nature-based tourism will negatively affect tourists’ participation behavior. The theoretical and managerial implications of this study are discussed in the context of the tourism literature.

        The study aims to tind out the patterns of negotiation of meaning among non-native speakers in CMC environment, particularly in video conference mode. The two Chinese students and two Korean students participated in 12 video conference sessions and accomplished infonnation gap tasks for 6 weeks. The researchers compared the patterns of negotiation of meaning occurred during video conferencing of two group settings: the same ethnic group and the different ethnic group settings. The research results show that in the same ethnic groups, lexical errors and content triggered most meaning negotiations while content and phonological errors in the different ethnic group settings. There is a clear tendency to indicate non-understanding of a lexical trigger through a local indicator in the same ethnic group while global nonunderstanding indicators caused by phonological and content triggers occurred more frequently in the different ethnic groups. At the response stage, in the same ethnic groups, rephrasing and elaboration were the most commonly used strategies to minimize non-understanding whereas in different ethnic groups, about half the responses fa ll in the category of minimal. The effects of video conferencing as a CMC tool and the advantages of non-native interactions as a way to promote cross-cultural understanding were discussed based on research resu lts.

        This study looks at the employment of negotiation about form by a pair of advanced English L2 users engaged in collaborative composition tasks, and compares their negotiation with that of a beginner English L2 pair. Contrary to the increasing interest in negotiation for meaning within the L2 literature, there is little research that investigates how learners interact in negotiation about form contexts, where learners are required to explicitly talk about the form that they encounter. In particular, few studies have been conducted with learners at different proficiency levels in such contexts. Recognising this paucity, the study presents a holistic analysis of learners' negotiation about form generated by learners at different proficiency levels. This means that first, the negotiation about form was quantified in terms of language-related episodes (LREs); second, the same data was examined via an in-depth, descriptive analysis; third, delayed post-tests were conducted on specific linguistic items produced via negotiation about form. The study does not find much difference in LREs between the two proficiency levels of learners or convincing evidence that LREs lead to L2 learning at all. The results also reveal limitations in the relationship between the interactions engaged in and eventual learning. (196 words)

        This study aims to investigate the meaning negotiation process between teachers and students in onJine video conference class. 128 cyber university students participated in the study for 12 weeks. Student survey, recorded video conversation and teachers' weekly comments were analyzed for the study. The research results show that unlike offiine class, the students in video class actively initiated the negotiation of meaning byemploying various negotiation signals. About 64.4% of the negotiation of meaning was initiated by the students. Students used confirmation checks most often, but the types of negotiation signals were varied across the proficiency levels. Teachers used clarification checks more, but utilized their meaning negotiation efforts more as scaffolding to help learners construct their utterances. Teachers also actively utilized text-chat during the video conference to negotiate the meaning and provide the correctional feedback. Both teachers and students used over 1/4 of their conversation for meaning negotiation. In order to elicit more negotiation efforts from the students, teachers need to bring more infonnation gap tasks and diverse topics, and the amount of teacher talk also needs to be controlled. The improvement in students' lead of conversation, turn-taking, andnegotiation efforts over the semester indicate that online video conference class can be an effective tool to promote the students' English speaking fluency.

        The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the implementation of the UR Agreement on Agriculture in terms of commitment of major area and agricultural trade performance and to explain some issues of the current WTO’s Doha negotiation on agriculture with a prospect of the DDA negotiations.One of the great achievements of the Uruguay Round of trade negotiations was to bring agricultural sector of individual countries to the mainstream of GATT disciplines. Although the evaluation on the performance of the new trading rules under WTO seems differ between exporting and importing countries of agricultural products, the experience of implementing the URAA has revealed several weakness and shortcomings in agricultural reforms. Therefore agricultural sector will remain as an important negotiation area in the WTO DDA round. The ongoing DDA negotiations on agriculture will likely result in further reductions of trade-distorting domestic subsidies and termination of export subsidies as well as substantial reduction of tariffs and expansion of the market access.

        This study reports on a classroom observation of the language produced by intermediate EFL learners in a Korean university, especially in terms of negotiation of meaning. Negotiation of meaning during task interactions makes certain that task participants receive comprehensible input and produce comprehensible output, which have been argued as essential elements for foreign language learning. Task type is also considered important, with those tasks requiring an exchange of information most likely to facilitate the negotiation of meaning. The purposes of this study was to compare successful meaning negotiation in four types of task(information gap, jigsaw, problem solving, and sharing personal experiences tasks) in terms of qualitative meaning negotiation. For this study, I recorded eight different tasks involving twenty-four students, a total of around five hours of learner interaction. This study showed that qualitative meaning negotiation is more important than the mere evidence of meaning negotiation indices for foreign language development. In terms of task type, open tasks such as problem solving and sharing personal experiences tasks may facilitate a higher qualitative negotiation than information gap tasks and jigsaw tasks, especially in intermediate or advanced English classes.
