        As buildings are becoming larger, demand for large-scale composite columns for heavy load is increasing. Welded built-up CFT column (ACT Column I) previously developed by authors of this study is structurally stable and economical. Characteristic of welded built-up CFT column is that there is a limitation of cross-sectional size and application of external diaphragm connection to ensure continuity of rib. Then, composite mega column (ACT Column II) was developed to improve limit of cross-sectional size. Composite mega column has a closed cross section like welded built-up CFT column, but thick plate is inserted between cold-formed steel to expand cross section size. However, when external diaphragm connection is applied to composite mega column, amount of steel is increased greatly and interference with finishing material occurs. In this study, internal diaphragm connection is applied through characteristic of composite mega column to which beam flange or stiffener can be attached to plate. In order to analyze this, simple tensile experiment of composite mega column connection with T-shaped stiffener was performed.

        As buildings are becoming larger, demand for mega-sized composite columns (over 1-meter diameter) is increased. We have developed and commercialized welded built-up CFT column (ACT Column I) since 2005 which are structurally stable and economical using cold-formed steel with rib. However, there has a limit in size of cross section (618˟618mm) by a fabrication facilities. And due to characteristics of closed cross section, there has a limit to construction of connection of moment frame. Composite mega column (ACT Column II) has same concept of forming closed cross section. But in order to enlarge cross sectional size, thick plate is inserted between cold-formed steels. Since composite mega column can control thickness and width of thick plate, steel or composite beams can be directly attached to the connection. In this study, we propose strength formula of composite mega column to beam connections with T-shaped stiffener as internal diaphragm and verified through finite element analysis and simple tensile experiment.

        Cylindrical steel shell sections have been applied in various engineering fields particularly in recent installations of wind turbine towers. Hence, many researchers are interested in studying cylindrical steel shell structures. However, studies on the effect of the presence or absence of openings are insufficient. Thus, the design criteria for the opening as well as the behavior of wind turbine tower are not clearly presented. Therefore, this study examines the ultimate strength and the behavior of wind tower in consideration of openings, presence of stiffeners, changes in opening width, and thickness variation of stiffeners. ABAQUS, a universal finite element analysis program, was used in to conduct this research. Finally, the results of this study can be a reference for the design and production of wind towers with openings.

        As the size of the wind power becomes larger, the development of the assembly type wind power which is advantageous in transportation and installation is active. This advantage comes from the economic point of view, and the stiffener is applied to the inner side, so that the safety is high. Large wind power require door openings for maintenance. The door opening has an irregular cross-section, and an excessive stress active due to the door opening. In this paper, the stresses occurring around the door opening was analyzed. As a result, small stress values were appeared in the tower, as the number of stiffeners were increased. Also, stress values were decreased a little in the tower as the opening shape become to ellipse was closer.

        In this paper, we present the result of analytical investigation pertaining to the structural behavior of steel-concrete composite plate girder with arch-type web stiffener. In the arch-type web stiffener located in the compression side of web, infill concrete is cast to strengthen the arch-type stiffener and also to exert resisting force against compression force. This type of composite steel-concrete plate girder bridge is built and is in service. To understand the behavior thoroughly, analytical parametric study was conducted by using the finite element method. As a result it was found that the effect of arch-type stiffener with infill concrete is considerable for the design of such type composite girder bridge.

        This paper presents the design, fabrication and performance of a reinforced concrete beam strengthened by GFRP box plate and its possibility for structural rehabilitations. The load capacity, ductility and failure mode of reinforced concrete structures strengthened by FRP box plate were investigated and compared with traditional FRP plate strengthening method. This is intended to assess the feasibility of using FRP box plate for repair and strengthening of damaged RC beams. A series of four-point bending tests were conducted on RC beams with or without strengthening FRP systems the influence of concrete cover thickness on the performance of overall stiffness of the structure. The parameters obtained by the experimental studies were the stiffness, strength, crack width and pattern, failure mode, respectively. The test yielded complete load-deflection curves from which the increase in load capacity and the failure mode was evaluated.

        보강판은 선박이나 해양구조물에서 폭넓게 사용되고 있는 기본적인 강도 부재이다. 이러한 보강판은 선박의 갑판부, 선측부, 선저부에 흔히 사용되고 있다. 보강판은 보강재가 어느 한 방향으로 또는 양방향으로 구성되어 있으며 후자에 대해서 보통 그릴리지라고 한다. 보강판의 좌굴 및 소성붕괴는 선각거더의 파손 원인이 되므로 좌굴 및 최종강도가 정확하게 규명할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 범용유한요소해석코드인 ANSYS를 이용하여 좌굴 및 좌굴 후 거동에 대한 평가를 수행하고 보강재 치수변화, 수압의 영향을 고려하여 압축최종강도에 대해 해석 수행하였다.

        본 논문의 목적은 내부환보강 X형 관이음부의 거동을 수치적으로 평가하여 환보강재의 보강효과를 규명하고, 강도 산정식을 제안하는 것이다. 축방향력을 받는 관이음부의 정적강도를 산정하기 위해 비선형 유한요소해석을 수행하였다 유한요소해석 결과는 실험결과와 잘 일치하였고, X형 관이음부의 주부재 단부효과를 감소시킬 수 있는 주부재의 적정길이를 제시하였다. 내부 환보강재는 단순 X형 관이음부의 정적강도를 증가시키는데 효율적임이 판명되었고, 최대 보강효과를 나타내는 최대강도비가 1.5에서 3까지 산정되었다. 환보강재의 실용적 크기를 고려한 이음부에 대해 유한요소해석 결과를 이용하여 회귀분석을 실시하고 내부 환보강 X형 관이음부의 강도산정식을 제안하였다.

        This paper is presented an experimental studies on bond stress between steel and concrete in concrete filled steel tubes. In the actual building frames, vertical dead and live loads on beams are usually transferred to columns by beam-to-column connections. In case when concrete filled steel tubes are used as columns of an actual building frame which has a simple connection, shear forces in the beam ends are not directly transferred to the concrete core but directly to the steel tube. Provided that the bond effect between steel tube and concrete core should not be expected, none of the end shear in the beams would be transferred to the concrete core but only to the steel tube. Therefore, it is important to investigate the bond strength between steel tube and concrete core in the absence of shear connectors.

        The purpose of this paper is the optimum modification of dynamic characteristics of stiffened plate structure including the number of stiffener. This paper shows the optimum structural modification method by dynamic sensitivity analysis and quasi-least squares method and considers it's validity. In the method of the optimization, finite element method, sensitivity analysis and optimum structural modification method are used. The change of natural frequency and total weight are made to be an objective function. Thickness of plate, the number of stiffener and cross section moment of stiffener become a design variable. The dynamic characteristics of stiffened plate structure is analyzed using finite element method. Next, rate of change of dynamic characteristics by the change of design variable is calculated using the sensitivity analysis. Then, amount of change of design variable is calculated using optimum structural modification method. It is shown that the results are effective in the optimum modification for dynamic characteristics of the stiffened plate structure including the number of stiffener.
