This study investigates the seismic performance of beam-column connections using Thin-Walled Steel Composite (TSC) beams and Prestressed Reinforced Concrete (PSRC) columns. TSC beams are constructed from U-shaped thin steel plates that are filled with concrete, allowing for composite action with slabs through the use of shear connectors. They are widely applied in industrial buildings due to excellent strength, stiffness, and constructability. However, slender web plates are prone to local buckling, which may compromise their performance during seismic events. To mitigate this issue, internal supports have been introduced to enhance web stability and concrete confinement. Cyclic loading tests on three specimens—with and without internal supports—demonstrated that the supports increased moment capacity, improved energy dissipation, and effectively reduced buckling. Even slender sections demonstrated performance comparable to that of compact sections. All specimens reached peak strength at a 2.44% rotation angle, with damage localized near the supports. A practical connection detail was also proposed, taking into account constructability and structural reliability. The results provide valuable guidance for the seismic design of composite systems in large-scale structures.

This study proposes a methodology for predicting properties such as the density of polymer composites, including asphalt binders, and evaluates its feasibility by identifying the quantitative relationship between the structure and properties of individual polymers. To this end, this study investigates the variations in molecular dynamics (MD) results with molecular structural complexity and assesses the independence and correlation of variables that influence density. In this study, MD simulations were performed on hydrocarbon-based and individual asphalt binder molecules. The effects of various temperatures, molecular conditions, and structural features on the density were analyzed. MD-related variables influencing the calculated density were evaluated and compared with experimentally measured densities. The MD-calculated densities were used as target variables in a subsequent study, in which a machine learning model was applied to perform quantitative structure–property relationship analysis. The MD-calculated densities showed a strong correlation with experimental measurements, achieving a coefficient of determination of R2 > 0.95. Potential energy exhibited a tendency to cluster into 4–6 groups depending on the molecular structure. In addition, increasing molecular weight and decreasing temperature led to higher density and viscosity. Torsional energy and other individual energy components were identified as significant factors influencing both potential energy and density. This study provided foundational data for the property prediction of asphalt binders by quantitatively analyzing the relationship between the molecular structure and properties using MD simulations. Key features that could be used in the construction of polymer structure databases and AI-based material design were also proposed. In particular, the integration of MD-based simulation and machine learning was confirmed to be a practical alternative for predicting the properties of complex polymer composite systems.

In this study, in order to identify the vibration characteristics of the process control cabinet, as a basic study for evaluating the seismic performance of nuclear power plant structures, a cabinet vibration test equipment, sliding base, and measurement system were constructed. The reliability of the base was verified by utilizing ODS and phase data to determine how the cabinet deforms under seismic conditions. In addition, the cabinet was subjected to excitation frequencies from 8 Hz to 15 Hz in order to examine the changes in the natural frequency of the cabinet according to the two types of sliding base motion and the cabinet door open/close status. The vibration characteristics of the empty cabinet were investigated experimentally to examine the cabinet excitation characteristics and changes in natural frequency. Since the structural rigidity of the cabinet changes depending on the excitation conditions and door opening/closing, the natural frequency and response size of the cabinet change. Since the door opening is a condition that greatly amplifies the cabinet vibration response, it causes structural defects and greatly affects the changes in natural frequency.

The paper presents the experimental investigation of RC beams retrofitted with Textile Reinforced Mortar (TRM), featuring enhanced bond capacity. Anchoring systems, including an extension of retrofitting length and the use of chemical anchors, are newly employed to improve the structural performance of the RC beam retrofitted with TRM. For the experimental investigation, a total of seven shear-critical RC beams, with and without stirrups, were designed and constructed. The structural behaviors of specimens retrofitted with the proposed TRM methods were compared to those of non-retrofitted specimens or specimens strengthened with conventional TRM methods. Crack pattern, force-displacement relationship, and absorbed energy were evaluated for each specimen. The experimental results indicate a significant improvement in the shear capacity of the RC beam with the proposed retrofitting method. Therefore, it is concluded that the application of an extended retrofitting length and chemical anchors to the TRM retrofitting method can effectively enhance the bond capacity of TRM, thereby improving the shear performance of RC beams.

In this study, considering the expansion/contraction behavior of the upper structure at all times and the abnormal behavior of the receiving friction elements that allow horizontal movement during earthquakes, a port receiving test body simulating the protrusion of the friction elements was created and the modulus performance was evaluated. In order to confirm the influence of the friction element's projection, the friction element's degree of separation was divided into four stages, and the shear behavior of the test specimen and the friction coefficient were confirmed. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the friction load increases as the protrusion degree of the friction element increases. On the other hand, as the degree of protrusion of the coefficient of friction increases, the coefficient of friction also increases. It was confirmed that damage to the friction elements during use increases the coefficient of friction, hinders smooth expansion and contraction of the upper structure, and causes stress concentration at the fixed-end support.

In this paper, seismic performance evaluation was carried out for eight circular reinforced concrete columns designed seismically by KRTA[1]and KCI[8]. Primary design parameters for such columns included many longitudinal reinforcements, yield strength of reinforcements, the vertical spacing of spirals, aspect ratio, and axial force ratio. The test results showed that all the columns exhibited stable hysteretic and inelastic responses. Based on the test results, drift ratios corresponding to each damage state, such as initial yielding, initial cover spalling, initial core concrete crushing, buckling, and fracture of longitudinal reinforcement and final spalled region, were evaluated. Then, those ratios were compared with widely accepted damage limit states. The comparison revealed that the existing damage states were considerably conservative. This implies that additional research is required for the damage limit states of such columns designed seismically by current Korean design codes.

Tuned mass damper (TMD) is widely used to reduce dynamic responses of structures subjected to earthquake loads. A smart tuned mass damper (STMD) was proposed to increase control performance of a traditional passive TMD. A lot of research was conducted to investigate the control performance of a STMD based on analytical method. Experimental study of evaluation of control performance of a STMD was not widely conducted to date. Therefore, seismic response reduction capacity of a STMD was experimentally investigated in this study. For this purpose, a STMD was manufactured using an MR (magnetorheological) damper. A simple structure presenting dynamic characteristics of spacial roof structure was made as a test structure. A STMD was made to control vertical responses of the test structure. Two artificial ground motions and a resonance harmonic load were selected as experimental seismic excitations. Shaking table test was conducted to evaluate control performance of a STMD. Control algorithms are one of main factors affect control performance of a STMD. In this study, a groundhook algorithm that is a traditional semi-active control algorithm was selected. And fuzzy logic controller (FLC) was used to control a STMD. The FLC was optimized by multi-objective genetic algorithm. The experimental results presented that the TMD can effectively reduce seismic responses of the example structures subjected to various excitations. It was also experimentally shown that the STMD can more effectively reduce seismic responses of the example structures conpared to the passive TMD.

For this study, we established a system for the CPU cooling performance evaluation and conducted performance tests on air-cooling and water-cooling to understand the effect of the CPU cooling method on performance. For the performance evaluation, the test chamber and water-cooling system were set up, the workload S/W was selected, and a case file was created. In the case of the air-cooling, the CPU temperature is sensitively affected by the outside air temperature, the direction of the board installation, and the influence of the airflow formed around it, and may cause a lot of fluctuations in the CPU temperature. When the water-cooling system was applied, the CPU temperature decreased from 75℃℃ to 37℃ compared to the air-cooled type under the test conditions of 28.5℃ and 3LPM cooling water supply temperature and flow rate. As the CPU clock speed increased due to the decrease in temperature, it was found that the job execution time was reduced by 15~23%. In the future, it is expected that using this performance evaluation environment established through this study will enable us to easily conduct test evaluations for various processors, cooling methods, and changes in operating conditions.
