This paper examines the seismic performance and structural design of the ceiling bracket-type modular connection. The bracket-type system reduces the cross-sectional area loss of members and combines units using fitting steel plate, and it has been developed to be fit for medium-story and higher-story buildings. In particular, this study conducted the cyclic loading test for the performance of the C-type and L-type brackets, and compared the results. The test results were also compared with the commercial FEA program. In addition, the structural design process for the bracket-type modular connection was presented. The two connections, proposed as a result of the test results, were all found to secure the seismic performance level of the special moment steel frame. In the case of initial stiffness, the L-type bracket connection was found to be great, but in the case of the maximum moment or fully plastic moment, it was different depending on the loading direction.

The purpose of this study is to develop precast concrete modules that can be used as a booth and a single-story building with a large space. This precast concrete module is originally designed to have a hexagonal facade when the upper and lower parts, which are symmetrical about horizontal connection line, are combined. A structural design was conducted to ensure structural safety of these precast concrete modules and to extend the slope of the inclined members as far as possible. Then the finite element analysis was performed to estimate the lateral and vertical deflection of complete precast concrete modular structures. And to verify the structural safety of these precast concrete modules, weight loading tests were conducted on the upper and lower modules respectively.

In this study, the Buckling restrained braces reinforced with engineering plastics that can compensate for the disadvantages in the manufacturing process of the existing buckling restrained brace. The proposed PC-BRB was fabricated to evaluate the reinforcement effect by carrying out a structural performance test and a full-scale two-layer frame test through cyclic loading test. As a result of PC-BRB's incremental and cyclic loading test, stable hysteresis behavior was achieved within the target displacement, and the compressive strength adjustment coefficient satisfied the recommendation. As a result of the real frame experiment, the strength of the reinforced specimen increased compared to the unreinforced specimen, and the ductility and energy dissipation increased.

This paper presents a systematic numerical analysis to obtain the re-centering and energy dissipation capacities of Chevron braced steel frames subjected to seismic loadings. In order to develop a recentering seismic resistance system excluding a residual deformation, the chevron braced steel frames are assembled using super-elastic SMA (Shape Memory Alloy) braces. The three-dimensional nonlinear finite element models are constructed to investigate the horizontal stiffness, hysteretic behaviors, and failure modes of the re-centering Chevron bracing system.

Tomb of King Muryeong, located in Sonsan-ri, was found vulnerable due to leakages during since the summer of 2016. This research aims to evaluate structural safety of the Tomb under the tumulus. Site surveys were conducted to find vulnerable inner parts. Structural safety assessment is presented based on both site survey results and analytical results obtained through FEM analysis using the ANSYS program. The underground structure was explicitly modeled to focus on two types of loadings: design loads and actual gravity loads. In general, the tomb does not show any critical deflection increase or damage through the analytical investigation. However, maintenance through continuous monitoring is necessary to prevent severe deflections and stress concentrations since the rigidity of the tomb materials are very vulnerable and likely to be reduced due to prolonged weathering and continuous rain leakage.

In this paper, the hybrid prefabricated retrofit method that improve structural performance and reduce construction period was developed by using a finite element analysis. The hybrid prefabricated retrofit method consist of a Z-shaped side plate, a L-shaped lower plate, and a bottom plate containing an steel plate with openings. This shape has advantage that a retrofit method is possible regardless of the size of the beams and a follow-up process such as reinforcement bars placing are not required. The finite element analysis of hybrid Prefabricated retrofit method showed the most ideal stress distribution when the thickness of bottom plate was 10mm, the thickness of the L-shaped lower plate was 5mm, the thickness of the Z-shaped side plate was 2.5mm, and the bolt spacing was 200mm. The bending strength equation of Hybrid prefabricated retrofit method was proposed through the plastic stress distribution method in KDS 41 31 00. The result of Comparison the proposed equation with the finite element analysis, it is determined that the design of hybrid prefabricated retrofit method is possible through the KDS 41 31 00.

As the damage caused by earthquakes gradually increases, seismic retrofitting for existing public facilities has been implemented in Korea. Several types of structural analysis methods can be used to evaluate the seismic performance of structures. Among them, for nonlinear dynamic analysis, the hysteresis model must be carefully applied because it can significantly affect the behavior. In order to find a hysteresis model that predicts rational behavior, this study compared the experimental results and analysis results of the existing non-seismic reinforced concrete frames. For energy dissipation, the results were close to the experimental values in the order of Pivot, Concrete, Degrading, and Takeda models. The Concrete model underestimated the energy dissipation due to excessive pinching. In contrast, the other ones except the Pivot model showed the opposite results with relatively little pinching. In the load-displacement curves, the experimental and analysis results tended to be more similar when the column axial force was applied to columns.

For form stability of membrane structures, membrane material is required to be in tension. Therefore, in planning and maintenance management, the engineer should consider enough about introduction of stress during construction and re-introduction of stress after completion. Clamping part is an important portion with the function for introducing tension into membrane materials, and the function to transmit stress to boundary structures, such as steel frames. Then, the purpose of this research is to clarify stress condition and stress transfer mechanism including clamping part of membrane structures, and to grasp the changing tendency of membrane structures with the passage of time. In this research, following previous one, we perform well-balanced evaluation by conducting tensile fractured tests of clamping part's specimens, and by measuring individually the amount of displacement of not only overall specimen's length but membrane material and clamping part. Thereby, we consider the influence the difference in the hardness of edge rope and the difference in the direction of thread affect modification and fracture load.

If an excessive displacement occurs in the base isolation system, the structure will be damaged due to overturning of the upper structure. In this study, we analyze the behavior of base isolation by applying earthquake to base isolation with anti-uplift device. In the case of structures that generate horizontal reaction forces such as arch structures, horizontal reaction forces must be considered in the design of the base isolation and structural members. And anti-uplift device for preventing the excessive displacement of the base isolation system is needed.

In this paper, the displacement response to seismic loads was analyzed after installing TMD in spatial structures and high-rise buildings. In the case of a spatial structures, since it exhibits complex dynamic behavior under the influence of various vibration modes, it is not possible to effectively control the seismic response by installing only one TMD, unlike ordinary structures. Therefore, after installing eight TMDs in the structure, the correlation between displacement response and mass ratio was examined while changing the mass. The TMD must be designed to have the same frequency as the structure frequency so that the maximum response reduction effect can be exhibited. It can be confirmed that the most important variable is to select the optimal TMD mass in order to install the TMD on the structure and secure excellent control performance against the earthquake load. As a result of analyzing the TMD mass ratio, in the case of high-rise buildings, a mass ratio of 0.4% to 0.6% is preferable. In spatial structures, it is desirable to select a mass ratio of 0.1% to 0.2%. Because this study is based on the theoretical study based on numerical analysis, in order to design a TMD for a real structure, it is necessary to select within a range that does not affect the safety of the structure.
