Korean psych verb constructions are divided into two different types: agentive psych verb constructions and stative psych verb constructions. A considerable amount of literature has been devoted to explaining the different case-marking patterns of the two constructions. Building on the HPSG feature regime, I propose two types of semantic relations, i.e. the act-relation for agentive psych verbs and the psych-relation for stative psych verbs. Such different semantic relations explain the different cases that the verbs’ objects are marked with. In addition, I show that the proposed analysis well explains scope interpretation, polysemy relations, and verb alternation of the two constructions.

This paper reviews adjunctive characteristics of Pre-nouns in Korean. The contents discussed are as follows. First, previous studies on the Adjuncts and Specifier in NP. Second, adjunctive characteristics of Pre-nouns. Third, adjunction structure and levels of Pre-nouns in NP. In this paper, we will see the following three facts. First, demonstrative Pre-nouns is Adjunct. Second, Korean Pre-nouns are component of 'Structure island'. Therefore adjunctive characteristics of Pre-nouns shall be apply. Third, adjunction principle of Pre-nouns as a adjunct is proposed. In addition, the noun phrase structure is proposed.

Korean is known to have a special form of coordination, verb-less coordination (VLC), in which the preceding conjunct(s) may allow a shared verb, and possibly other related elements, not to be pronounced as the name of the construction indicates. In this study, we will try to analyze the data showing vehicle change effects with focus on a particular verbal ending -nuntey. As -nuntey is a kind of connective verbal ending in Korean, i.e. a subordinate conjunction, we will claim that the data in question have a common structure that contains verb-less coordination within subordination.

The objective of this article is to account for the late Modern English changes of BE to V from a more extensive diachronic perspective. This study examines frequency changes of various constructions involving BE to in COHA, a corpus of American English covering 1800 to 2009. It has been found that BE to V constructions are on the constant decline while the retroactive infinitive BE to blame is not. In order to know a fundamental motivation behind this decline, this study explores historical changes of BE to V from Old English to early Modern English and explains the whole span of changes as the results of reanalysis and grammaticalization.

In the OE absolute participial clause, its subject was usually realized as inherent dative case in the CP‐oriented and focalized element‐prominent structure. During between LME and EModE, dative absolutes were changed into nominative absolutes, which was derived by the reanalysis of SOV as SVO and the change from the OE structure into the TPoriented and subject‐prominent structure. But nominative absolutes were substituted with accusative absolutes from LModE. Such a change as this was triggered by analogy and assimilation with verbal gerunds that became grammaticalized as C-fin-T+def in their internal structures. Nominal gerunds in OE and EME began to acquire verbal properties from LME and onwards. Verbal gerunds in PDE are composed of mixed projections [+N,+V] with functional category Gerund Phrase. The [+N]‐feature selects a gerund's logical subject and the [+V]‐feature licenses its verbal complement. The Gerund as functional head bears both an uninterpretable verbal feature [uV] that is checked against the interpretable feature of a verbal complement and an interpretable nominal feature [iN] that guarantees a gerund's logical subject. As for the case identification of a gerund's logical subject, it is spelled out either as genitive at the DP level when it is selected as the genitive form morphologically or as accusative when EPP attracts a nominal element as a clausal gerund's logical subject onto the CP-fin-TP+def level where the [FinP nonfiniteness] renders a default case feature to be accusative.

The purpose of this paper is to clarify what is the concept of the commentary text type in mass media such as newspapers, radio or television, how often do commentaries appear and how are they marked as commentaries. This paper ist also to investigate how can they be distinguished from other, neighbouring text types such as columns, editorials or guest comments. In this paper, we try to find an answer, drawing on definitions and descriptions found in research papers from the domain of text linguistics and media linguistics. It deals with some expansions of the textual model of the commentary, and the usage of this text type in the media serving various discourse communities. Finally, we try to present a research plan involving contrastive text linguistic analysis of commentaries in different media from german and korean countries, focusing attention on formulating a ‘tertium comparationis’ that would be theoretical and practical for the comparison of mass media text types.
