This paper reviews the current seismic design code and research for dynamic earth pressure on retaining structures. Domestic design codes do not clearly define the estimation of dynamic earth pressure and give different comments for seismic coefficient, wall inertia and distribution of dynamic earth pressure using Mononobe-Okabe method. AASHTO has been revised reflecting current research and aims for effective seismic design. Various design codes are analyzed to compare their performance and economic efficiency. The results are used to make improvement of current domestic seismic design code. Further, it is concluded that the experimental investigation is also needed to verify and improve domestic seismic code for dynamic earth pressure.

Shear wall systems behave as individual wall because of openings like window and elevator cage. When coupling beams are installed in shear walls, they will have high strength and stiffness so that be less damaged by lateral loads like earthquake. However, coupling beam is difficult construction method. And arranging reinforcement of slender coupling beams are especially hard. It is because the details of coupling beam provided by ACI 318 are complex. In this paper, experiments were conducted using coupling beams with 3.5 aspect ratio to improve the details of slender coupling beams provided by ACI 318. Two specimens were proposed for this study. One specimen applied with bundled diagonally reinforcement only. Another specimen applied both bundled diagonally reinforcement and High-Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composite (HPFRCC) so that coupling beams have half of transverse reinforcement. All specimen were compared with a coupling beam designed according to ACI 318 and were evaluated with hysteretic behaviors. Test results showed that the performance of two specimen suggested in this study were similar to that of coupling beam designed according to current criteria. And it was considered that simplification of the details of reinforcement would be available if transverse reinforcement was reduced by using bundled diagonally reinforcement and HPFRCC.

This study investigated the influence of probabilistic variability in stiffness and nonlinearity of soil on response of nuclear power plant (NPP) structure subjected to seismic loads considering the soil-structure interaction (SSI). Both deterministic and probabilistic methods have been employed to evaluate the dynamic responses of the structure. For the deterministic method, SRPmin method given in USNRC SRP 3.7.2(2013) (envelope of responses using three shear modulus profiles of lower bound(GLB), best estimate(GBE) and upper bound(GUB)) and SRPmax method (envelope of responses by more than three ground profiles within range of GLB≤G≤GUB) have been considered. The probabilistic method uses the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) that can capture probabilistic feature of soil stiffness defined by the median and the standard deviation. These analysis results indicated that 1) number of samples shall be larger than 60 to apply the probabilistic approach in SSI analysis and 2) in-structure response spectra using equivalent linear soil profiles considering the nonlinear behavior of soil medium can be larger than those based on low-strain soil profiles.

The purpose of this study is to improve the previous damage evaluation model for RC members which is proposed by Igarashi[1] in 2010.The previous model was not confirmed by enough data of damage such as, residual crack length, width and area for exfoliation of concrete, etc. In addition, validation of the model is still insufficient. Therefore, experiment of a real-scale RC structure and experiment of RC columns using the high-strength concrete were conducted to gather the data of damage in RC members. The investigation has been conducted gathering the data not only additional experiments data but also existing data for modification of damage evaluation model. It has been investigated on changing damage in RC due to axial force ratio, shear reinforcement and shear span ratio. As a result, several problems were founded in the previous model, such as, hinge length(lp), spacing of flexural crack(Sav,f), total width of flexural cracks regulated by maximum width of flexural crack(nf) and total width of shear cracks regulated by maximum width of shear crack(ns). New model is proposed and evaluated the damage properly.
