This study was divised to observe the inhibitory effect of growth rate of human colon cancer cells by Eucommial leaf extract, in vitro. Three species of human colon cancer cells, HRT-18, HCT-48 and HT-29, were used for the experiment. Each extract of Ecommial leaf was prepared by extraction with water, 95% alcohol, acetone, chloroform and petroleum ether, and then the inhibitory effect of each extract on the growth rate of cells was compared with control group and each other. The expermental results obtained are summarized as follows ; 1. Inhibitory effects on growth rate of human colon cancer cells were strongest in the petroleum ether extract and next in the chloroform extract. 2. Inhibitory effects on the growth rate of the cancer cells by extracts of water, 95% alcohol and acetone were weaker than that of petroleum ether and chloroform. 3. Inhibitory effect of each extract on the cancer cell growth was shown most strong activity in HT-29, and was in order of HRT-18 and HCT-48. In view of the results, it could be suggested that inhibitory effects of non-polar solvent`s extracts against the cancer cell growth were more stronger than that of polar solvents and the effects were indicated defference according to the species of the cells.

This study was designed to investigate age-related changes in body composition and cell mediated immunity. Male Sprague-Dawley rats were fed stock diet ad libitum and 12 rats were sacrified at 1, 4, 6, 12 months of age. Body weight increased sharply from 1 to 4 months, and increased steadily thereafter. The weights of liver, epididymal fat pads, and kidney increased in similar pattern as body weight, but their relative ratio to body weight decreased with age. The ratio of epididymal fat pads to body weight increased with age. The weight of extensor digitorium longus, soleus and plantaris increased from 1 to 4 months, but it decreased at 6, 12 months. The protein content of muscles decreased or increased throughout 12 months. The T cell proliferation response to Con A stimulation was significantly lower at 6 months than 1 momth and lower at 12 months than 6 months.

세포간층 lignin은 2차벽 lignin(end-wise-polymer)에 비해 축합도가 높으며 guaiacyl type의 phenol성 수산기등 말단기를 많이 갖는 2차벽 lignin보다 저분자량의 bulk polymer형 lignin이다.

건시의 품질에 중요한 영향을 미치는 물성적 특성과 세포벽 구성성분과의 관계에 대하여 연구하였다. 건시의 수분함량은 30-36% 정도였으며 물성특성 중 경도는 수분함량이 낮은 둥시(상주), Hagakure 및 고종시에서 높게 나타났다. 물성특성치 중 부서짐성, 경도, 껌성, 씹힘성은 품종간 유의차가 인정되었으나 응집성, 부착성 및 탄성은 품종에 따른 통계적인 유의차가 나타나지 않았다. 조세포벽의 함량, 세포벽의 펙틴물질 및 칼슘 함량은 경도가 높은 품종에서 높게 나타났으며 펙틴물질 중 수용성 펙틴은 경도가 낮은 품종에서 그리고 산 및 알칼리가용성 펙틴은 경도가 높은 품종에서 높게 나타났다. 주사전자현미경으로 건시과육의 세포벽을 관찰한 결과 경도가 높은 품종의 세포벽이 비교적 견고하게 관찰되었다.

담배나방 유충에서 분리한 세포질다각체병 바이러스의 형태, 다각체 단백질 및 핵산의 전기영동상과 바이러스의 병원성을 조사하여 본 바이러스를 이용한 담배나방의 생물적 방제 이용성을 검토하고자 본 실험을 수행하였다. 다각체의 형태는 외관상 6각형으로 0.5~3.7 크기이고 바이러스 입자는 정 20면체로 55nm였다. SDS-PAGE에 의한 다각체 단백질은 단일 롤리？타이드인 24.3 Kd와 5개의 작은 구성분으로 이루어졌다. 바이러스입자는 7개의 폴리？타이드로 구성되어 있으며 분자량은 28.0~133.6 Kd였다. 바이러스 게놈은 10개의 조각으로 된 총 분자량 18.08 Md인 이본쇄 RNA로 각 조각의 분자량 범위는 0.65~2.79 Md이였다. 3령 유충에 대한 담배나방 세포질 다각체병바이러스의 은 이었으며 의 농도에서 에서 16.4일이었다.
