        The primary objective of the present study is the characterization of the somatic hybrids of dikaryon-monokaryon (di-mono) crosses in mushroom breeding. We employed this technique for developing superior strain from Pleurotus ostreatus strains with 56 intraspecific hybrids of 14 combinations between six Pleurotus ostreatus strains and one Pleurotus florida strain. In this study, the results of analysis on hybridization rate, nuclear DNA patterns, and colors and morphology of fruit-bodies, are presented as follows. In di-mono crosses, somatic hybrids among Pleurotus strains showed 100% of crossability as seen in those among Pleurotus strains indicating that nuclei of a dikaryon migrated to a recipient. 89.3% of the somatic hybrids among Pleurotus strains were similar to the donor dikaryons, and 10.7% had combined DNA patterns of both parents. In the 14.3% di-mono cross between P. ostreatus and P. florida, the nuclear DNA patterns of the all hybrid strain showed the same or similar patterns compared to the donor dikaryons. 75.0% of the hybrid between P. ostreatus and P. ostreatus were similar to the donor dikaryons; 10.7% had combined DNA patterns of both parents. 82.2% of fruiting body morphology of the hybrids among Pleurotus strains were similar to the dikaryons, and 17.8% had combined DNA patterns of both parents. All hybrid strains between dikaryon P. florida and monokaryon P. ostreatus showed the fruiting body whose colors were similar to those of the dikaryon, while the hybrids between dikaryon P. ostreatus and monokaryon P. florida were all showed combined colors of both parents but are more similar to the dikaryon. Therefore, the fruiting body color of P. florida tends to be generally dominant. The present study was able to find out and suggest superior hybrid strains by identifying the nuclear DNA patterns of hybrids between Pleurotus strains as well as the characteristics of their fruiting bodies. This study expects that the advantages of the di-mono crossing are needs to be fully utilized in mushroom breeding and it is better to develop superior strains of Pleurotus strains.

        The Asia-Pacific region is an engine of global growth in political, economic, social and cultural aspects but tangible and intangible conflicts also remain in the region due to different backgrounds and experiences in history, culture, and so forth. In this respect, APEC has played its role to narrow divides and facilitate cooperative activities among 21 member economies since 1989. However, it is required to point out how these member economies can initiate and manage cooperative activities efficiently under challenging situations like recent economic crisis and remaining conflicts. This paper presents the role of education to enable member economies to understand each other and find a way to work together, and reviews one representative international educational APEC project: APEC Future Education Forum.

        이 논문은 먼저 연금술의 과정이 의미하는 것을 살펴보고 그것의 상징적인 의미 그리고 그 과정이 예이츠가 시나 시집에 수록된 시들의 순서를 정하는데 어떻게 도움을 주었나를 연구한다. 연금술 과정이란 다름 아닌 납을 금으로 만드는 과정이다. 예이츠는 이 과정을 그의 시뿐만 아니라 그의 시집에도 이용하고 있다. 시와 시집 공히 알케미컬 내러티브의 형식을 취하고 있는데 이는 시와 시집이 혼돈의 상태에서 시작하여 정제된 상태로 끝을 맺거나 아니면 최소한도 도입부에 암시된 거친 상태를 순화시킬수 있는 가능성을 제시하면서 마치기 때문이다. 나의 논지는 납에서 금으로의 변화는 예이츠가 자신의 인생뿐만 아니라 그의 조국이 필요로 하는 과정이라는 것이다.

        This research is taken from a classroom-based study on how the indirect approach in written corrective feedback (CF) differs from the direct approach in facilitating the learning of grammatical features in L2 writing. Eleven university students from a writing class were divided into three groups based on TOEIC scores. After writing narrative assignments, they were given three different types of feedback: direct, indirect, and metalinguistic. The participants were asked to revise their writings after receiving indirect CF and metalinguistic CF. Immediately after revising, they were also asked to answer an open-ended questionnaire on the feedback type. Their revisions and corrections were analyzed according to use of indefinite articles, and different feedback types showed slightly different reactions and attitudes. The highlevel students were not influenced much by the feedback type, while the mid- and low-level students favored the indirect approach for their thinking processes, and benefited from metalinguistic CF in the revision sessions. The indirect approach appeared to be more effective, if implemented appropriately, increasing working memory for self-regulated L2 writing processes.

        When one is reading or writing, various forms of bottom-up knowledge—e.g., grammar, vocabulary, orthography, and the mechanics of written language—interact with the top-down processes at the level of discourse. One of the reasons English language learners encounter a lot of difficulty when they are engaged in academic reading and writing is that they have been taught grammar only at the sentence level and not at the discourse level. In order to illustrate how discourse-based grammar instruction can facilitate the acquisition of academic reading and writing, this paper discusses various ways in which the following four topics can be dealt with at the discourse level: cohesion, the tense and aspect system, comma usage, and existential there. Obviously, discourse-based grammar instruction should be integrated with the teaching of the other top-down and bottom-up skills necessary for academic reading and writing. EFL teachers, however, need to know more about discourse grammar to effectively make their learners aware of it and to offer them learning activities that will contribute to better reading comprehension and written production.

        Brucellosis is a zoonotic infectious disease of domestic animals, wild animals and humans. Innate immunity is a rapid and non-specific immune response that occurs during the early stages of Brucella invasion. Physical barriers such as epithelial cells and gastric juice secretions form the first line of defense. Humoral components such as complement and lysozyme can remove microorganisms by opsonization and bactericidal actions. Cellular components of the immune system, including macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils and innate T cells, have major roles in innate immunity. They recognize invading Brucella spp. by various cell surface receptors and then kill both the invading microorganisms and infected cells owing to their phagocytic or cytotoxic activity. In addition, they present Brucella antigens or produce cytokines to trigger adaptive immunity. Activated adaptive immunity consists of T helper cells, cytotoxic T cells and antigen-specific antibody-producing B cells. These can eliminate Brucella spp. effectively via antigen-specific mechanisms and by immunological memory. T cells activate bactericidal functions in macrophages by producing cytokines such as IFN-γ and by exerting cytotoxic effects on the infected cells. B cells produce antigen-specific antibodies that neutralize or opsonize the antigen. Because Brucella spp. can survive in macrophages and other host cells, Th-1 cellular immunity that enhances the bactericidal effects of phagocytic cells and the cytotoxic effects of lymphocytes is more important than humoral immunity in Brucella infection.

        본 연구에서는 열처리가 야콘의 항산화 활성에 미치는 영향을 살펴보기 위하여 열처리 온도(100 및 121℃)와 시간 (15, 30 및 60분)에 따른 항산화 성분 및 항산화 활성 변화를 조사하였다. 열처리 후 야콘의 갈변도, 유리형 및 결합형 폴리페놀 함량, 유리형 및 결합형 플라보노이드 함량, DPPH radical 소거 활성 및 ABTS radical 소거 활성을 측정하였 다. 열처리 후 야콘의 갈변도, 유리형 폴리페놀 및 플라보노이드 함량과 항산화 활성은 열처리 온도와 시간에 따라 유의적(p<0.05)으로 증가하였고, 결합형 폴리페놀 및 플라보노이드 함량은 감소하였다. 야콘의 유리형 폴리페놀 및 플라보노이드 함량은 121℃, 60분 열처리 시 생야콘에 비해 각각 1.2배 및 1.1배로 유의적(p<0.05)으로 증가하였다. 또한, 야콘의 DPPH radical 소거 활성 및 ABTS Radical 소거 활성도 121℃, 60분 열처리 시 생야콘에 비해 각각 1.7배 및 2.0배로 유의적(p<0.05)으로 증가였다. 야콘의 갈변도, 폴리페놀 및 플라보노이드 함량과 DPPH radical 및 ABTS radical 소거 활성 간의 상관관계를 분석한 결과, 높은 상관관계(p<0.01)가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과, 열처리 방법을 통해 야콘의 항산화 성분과 항산화 활성을 강화시킬 수 있으며, 이를 활용한 기능성 식품 소재 개발이 가능할 것으로 생각된다.

        Flexible transparent conducting films (TCFs) were fabricated by dip-coating single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) onto a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film. The amount of coated SWCNTs was controlled simply by dipping number. Because the performance of SWCNT-based TCFs is influenced by both electrical conductance and optical transmittance, we evaluated the film performance by introducing a film property factor using both the number of interconnected SWCNT bundles at intersection points, and the coverage of SWCNTs on the PET substrate, in field emission scanning electron microscopic images. The microscopic film property factor was in an excellent agreement with the macroscopic one determined from electrical conductance and optical transmittance measurements, especially for a small number of dippings. Therefore, the most crucial factor governing the performance of the SWCNT-based TCFs is a SWCNT-network structure with a large number of intersection points for a minimum amount of deposited SWCNTs.

        이 논문은 오든의 어느 저녁 때 산책하면서 와 예이츠의 비잔티움으 로의 항해 와 학교 어린이들 사이에서 를 비교하여 이 시들의 공통관심사인 시간의 문제가 어떻게 다르게 다루어지고 있나를 논의한다. 오든은 기본적으로 시간의 힘과 독재에 대한 인간의 나약함과 무기력함에 대한 관망 또는 명상하는 자세 그 이상 이 하도 아닌 반면에 예이츠는 이 문제를 극복하고 초월하려는 자세를 견지하고 있다. 이 는 두시인의 다른 시학에서 비롯된 것으로 결국 이 차이는 모던과 포스트모던의 차이 를 구별 짓는 많은 요소 중의 하나로 논의될 수 있을 것이다. 이는 한마디로 문학의 역할을 어떻게 볼 것인가 하는 점으로 귀결되는데 예이츠는 낭만주의의 후예답게 문 학은 사람을 변화시킬 수 있다고 믿는 데 반해 오든은 그러한 문학의 힘을 더 이상 믿지 않는다는 것이다. 다시 말해 예이츠는 시인의 역할은 민중을 깨우치는 위대한 선 지자로 보는 반면에 오든은 현대사회에서 과학의 발달로 인해 시인의 사회적 위상이 많이 약해졌다고 믿고 있는 것이다.

        The major issue in the development of nucleic acid based therapeutics is the inefficient delivery of these agents into cells. We prepared cholesterol conjugated spermine and evaluated its usefulness as a delivery modality for antisense oligonucleotides in HeLa-Luc cells. A 2’-O-methyl antisense oligonucleotide sequence, designed to correct splicing at an aberrant intron inserted into a normal luciferase reporter gene, was used for complex formation with cholesterol conjugated spermine. Effective delivery of this antisense agent into nucleus would results in the expression of a luciferasereporter gene product. The cholesterol-spermine formed stable complexes with the antisense oligonucleotide and showed modest delivery activity. Furthermore, this delivery activity was maintained even in the presence of serum proteins, mimicking in vivo conditions. Cholesterol-spermine thus has potential as a delivery system for antisense oligonucleotides into cells.

        This study aims to examine the Bologna Process in the reform of European higher education over the past decade. The year 2010 saw the completion of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) since the Bologna Process has been adopted, European higher education has expanded both quantitatively and qualitatively with full participation of European countries and the position of higher education in Europe elevated to a central position in the development and promotion of the competitiveness of European countries. While integration, quality assurance, lifelong learning and student mobility are considered to be its main achievements, the socioeconomic situation among the member countries hinders the Bologna Process from successful implementation. As a result, four questions in regards to the Bologna Process are asked. These are whether ‘soft-law governance’ is working, whether there is an ‘unchallenged consensus,’ whether a ‘brain-drain or brain circulation’ is occurring, and whether it is an example of ‘educational innovation.’ In conclusion, bottom-up governance and open coordination among various groups in higher education will create an agenda for a higher education motivating paradigm change toward student-based learning and education. As a result, the Bologna Process may be a ‘global teacher’ leading the change in higher education reform in European and non-European countries

        As a part of a study on insect food, the nutritional and harmful components in the mealworm (Tenebrio molitor) were analyzed. In addition, due to a recent introduction of live Chinese mealworm in the Korea market, those components between the Korean and Chinese mealworms were compared. Analysis of the composition of the general components (moisture, crude protein, crude fat, crude ash, crude fiber, and carbohydrates) showed that abundant crude protein (50.32– 52.79%) was present in both Korean and Chinese mealworm powders, and the protein content in the Chinese mealworm powder was higher than that in the Korean mealworm powder by 2.67%. The amino acid compositions were similar, but the fatty acid composition differed with respect to each component in the Korean and Chinese mealworm powders. The unsaturated fatty acid contents were 76.80-80.55% of the total fatty acid content in the mealworms. The linoleic acid contents in the Korean and Chinese mealworms were 20.8±1.1% and 34.69±1.9%; the linolenic acid contents, 0.47% and 1.31%; and the oleic acid contents, 51.40±0.9% and 40.20±1.5%, respectively. With respect to harmful components such as heavy metals and bacteria that cause food poisoning, bacteria such as Escherichia coli O157:H7 and Salmonella spp. were not detected in both Korean and Chinese mealworms, and the mercury content was below the standard value for common food (Korea, 0.03 mg/kg; China, 0.08 mg/kg).

        1. 미국에서는 지난 10여년간 벼를 주식으로 소비하는 아시아계와 라틴 아메리카계 인구의 급격한 증가와 더불어 사회적 건강에 대한 관심의 증대로 인해 벼의 생산과 소비가 점차적으로 증가하고 있다. 2. 미국에서 생산되는 모든 벼의 99 퍼센트가 알칸소, 캘리포니아, 루이지애나, 미시시피, 미주리, 텍사스 등의 6개 주에서 생산되고 있으며, 주로 인디카 장립종을 재배하고 있는 다른 주에 비해 캘리포니아에서는 주로 자포니카 중립종과 단립종을 재배하고 있다. 3. 캘리포니아는 이상적인 기후와 충분한 농업용수의 공급 및 혁신적인 농업 기술의 이용으로 미국에서 가장 높은 9,000 kg/ha이상의 수량을 보이고 있으며, 레이저를 이용한 토지 평탄 시스템의 도입과 관수 시스템의 재순환을 통해 농업용수 이용효율을 지난 30년간 1/3 정도 향상시켰다. 4. 캘리포니아에 벼재배에서 사용되는 종자의 90% 이상은 종자의 순도유지 및 잡초 종자의 유입을 배제하기 위해 등록및 특화된 종자를 사용하고 있으며, 주요 파종 방법은 최아된 종자를 이용한 100% 담수직파에 의존하고 있다. 균형있는 비료의 시비를 위해 질소비료 및 다른 형태의 비료를 토양 및식물의 잎조직분석법의 의해 평가된 비료 요구도에 따라 기비및 추비의 형태로 살포한다. 5. 캘리포니아의 벼담수직파방법은 적미와 다른 잡초를 제어하는 효율적인 재배기술인 반면 담수 환경에서 발생하는 높은농업용수공급 비용, 벼유묘활착이나 초기 생육을 방해하는 수많은 무척추동물종의 출현, 새롭게 출현하는 제초제 저항성 수생잡초 등의 문제를 해결하는 것이 시급한 과제로 남아 있다.

        Leptin is one of the adipocytokines produced from adi- pose tissue but its functions in periodontal tissue have not previously been investigated. In our current study, we exa- mined the effects of leptin on the expression of interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 in periodontal ligament (PDL) cells and gingival fibroblasts. Leptin receptor expression was evalua- ted by RT-PCR and the production of cytokines was mea- sured by ELISA. The phosphorylation of Akt and Erk1/2 was assessed by western blotting. mRNA of long and short form leptin receptors were detected in both PDL cells and gingival fibroblasts. Leptin was found to increase the pro- duction of IL-6 and IL-8 in both of these cell types, an effect which was not blocked by polymyxin B, an inhibitor of lipopolysaccharide (LPS). Leptin did not alter the pro- duction of IL-6 and IL-8 induced by LPS in PDL cells but increased Akt and Erk1/2 phosphorylation in these cells. These results suggest that leptin acts as an inducer of IL-6 and IL-8 in PDL cells and gingival fibroblasts.

        The purpose of this study is to analyze the grip strength by the girth of upper arm and forearm and their muscle activities by duration of grip strength. The subjects were consisted of 20 healthy adults(10 males & 10 females) who had no medical history of neurological and surgical problems with their arms. Girth of upper arm/ forearm and maximum grip strength for 4sec and 30sec were measured. Muscle activity was by wireless electrode EMG system. Co-relation of girth of upper arm/ forearm was significantly high. Upper arm's muscle activity performed for 4sec and 30sec was significantly high. In this study. It suggests that training of upper arm should be performed with the training of grip strength because both of upper arm and forearm affected grip strength.

        This study is designed to share a common frame and perspective for comparative studies on mind in a more comprehensive scale and to seek for the way how to depict the Geography of Asian Mind. In this study the Geography of Asian Mind will be discussed as the form of Topology of Mind Model (its abbreviation is TOMM). And this study utHlzes the humanistic approach to the Studies on the Mind as another main methodology balanced with the sc1entific approaches and so most important units of this study are the networks of concepts of the mind. The Mind Model proposed in this study means a specialized pattern of a network of mind concepts used in a field of academic learning or a standardized understanding in a cultural context. The comparison mentioned in this study is just the comparison of mind model to mind model, that is, comparison of network of mind concepts to another one. Therefore this study, which regards the language or the networks of mind concepts as the bask units, has a distinguished feature from the sc1entist research which has little concern about the significance of the language. The proposed methods for the comparative studies on mind are ecological approach, intercultural perspective, interdisciplinary research, and bridging between the traditional wisdoms and present scientific knowledge. The TOMM consists of pentagonal spider gram. The pentagonal spider gram is as follow: 1) Structure and operation of the mind, 2) Change and growth of the mind, 3) Existence and place of the mind, 4) Observation, evaluation and diagnosis of the mind, and 5) Action and effect of the mind.

        The camera embedded wall climbing robot in this paper combines the suction and aerodynamic attraction to achieve good balance between strong adhesion force and high mobility and adopts embedded image processing technique to detect targets on the warehouse inspection. Experimental results showed that the robot can move upward on the wall at the speed of 2.9m/min and carry 5kg payload in addition to 2.5kg self-weight, which record the highest payload capacity among climbing robots of similar size. With two 11.1V lithium-polymer battery, the robot can operate continuously for half hours. A wireless camera system, zigbee protocol module and several sensors was adopted for detecting target objects and dangerous situation on the warehouse wall and for sending alarm signals to remote sensor node or manager.
