        Likelihood of failure for the external corrosion of carbon and low alloy steels, which affect to a risk of facilities, was analyzed quantitatively through the risk based inspection using API-581 BRD. We found that the technical module subfactor (TMSF) decreased as the inspection number increased and it increased as the Inspection effectiveness and the used year increased. In this condition, the TMSF showed high value for the case of the marine/cooling tower drift area as a corrosion driver, poor quality of coating, no insulation, and low insulation condition.

        Industrial facilities are becoming more complex and various with rapidly developing technologies. A number of installations and equipments are increased to improve productivity, and they are operated under the condition of high temperature and pressure. They are continuously repaired, replaced or abolished because of the deterioration with time, but their repair and replacement are not easy for economical and environmental concerns. If possible, the deteriorating equipments should be inspected and repaired effectively considering the state of maintenance and preservation, economic efficiency, and safety. That's where RBI(Risk Based Inspection) fits in. Even if RBI technology has been known among specialists, there were no tools readily available and it was hard to practice and apply RBI in industrial inspection and safety management. In the development of the qualitative RBI, the overall algorithm adopted API-581 BRD. The qualitative RBI program was developed to search the appling process.

        WC and dense WC-10 vol%Co materials with grain size of~1 were synthesized by high-frequency induction heated combustion synthesis (HFIHCS) method in one step from elemental powders of W, C and Co within several minutes. Simultaneous combustion synthesis and densification were accomplished under the combined effects of an induced current and mechanical pressure. In the absence of cobalt additive, WC can be formed, but its relative density was low (about 73%) under simultaneous application of a 60 MPa pressure and the induced current. However, in the presence of 10 vol.%Co, the relative density increased to 99% under the same experimental condition. The percentages of the total shrinkage occurring before and during the synthesis reaction of WC-10 vol.%Co were 5% and 51%, respectively. The fracture toughness and hardness values of WC-10 vol.%Co were 10 MPa . m and 1840 kg/, respectively.

        In this work, transient liquid phase (TLP) bonding of Ni-Cr heat resisted cast alloy (HP) was investigated. And also the behaviors of the solid particles distributed in the interlayer during TLP bonding were investigated. The MBF-60 and solid particles (Ni, Fe, and powders respectively) added MBF-60 which will be a liquid phase coexisting with solid particles at the bonding temperature were used as insert metal. The effective and sound bonding was possible by spark plasma sinter-bonding due to the differences of electric resistance between base metal and liquid insert layer which creates high temperature region. During the isothermal solidification, particles and solid particles of liquid phase sintered insert metal have shown no growth, while Ni and Fe particles grow rapidly. In this TLP bonding using the MBF-60 and distributed Fe, Ni particles as insert materials, the whole isothermal solidification process was dominated by the growth rate of the solid particles distributed in the interlayer.

        SPS(Spark Plasma Sintering ) is known to be an excellent sintering method for porous materials. In the present work an attempt has been made of fabricating porous 316L Stainless steel with good mechanical properties by using controlled SPS process Porosity was 21%~53% at sintering temperature of ~100 The limit of porosity with available mechanical strength was 30% at given experimental conditions. Porosity can be controlled by manipulating the intial height of the compact by means of the supporter and punch length. The applied pressure can be exerted entirely upon the supporter, giving no influence on the specimen. The specimen is then able to be sintered pressurelessly. In this case porosity could be controlled from 38 to 45% with good mechanical strength at sintering temperature of 90. As the holding time increased, neck between the particles grew progressively, but shrinkage of the specimen did not occur, implying that the porosity remained constant during the whole sintering process.

        In this work, the conventional transient liquid phase(TLP) bonding was modified. An attempt was made of using a liquid phase sintered alloy, which will be a liquid phase coexisting with a solid phase at the bonding temperature, as an interlayer for bonding metals. With an aim of revealing the fundamental features of this modified TLP bonding, the kinetics concerned with the growth of solid particles and the isothermal solidification process in Fe-1.16wt%B and Fe-4.5wt%P interlayers for the bonding pure iron, as well as the morphological change of the solid particle, were investigated.

        We combined Field-Activated Combustion Synthesis(FACS) with mechanical pressure to produce dense WC-20 vol.%Co composite in one step. The hardness, the fracture toughness and the relative density of the dense WC-20 vol.%Co were investigated. Under the application of 60 MPa pressure and 3000A current on the reactants, the relative density of WC-20 vol.%Co composite was 99.4%. The fracture toughness and hardness were and respectively. The fracture toughness and hardness of WC-20 vol.%Co composite produced by FAPACS were lower than that of nanostructured composite, but similar to commercial ones. Therefore we concluded that the FAPACS method which can produce WC-20 vol.%Co within several minutes in one step is superior to conventional ones.
