        This study was carried out to obtain the information for growth characteristics of crown gall tumor and hairy root transformed by Agrobacterium spp,. on the media with phytohormones, casein hydrolysate and activated charoal. Crown gall tumors and hairly roots were formed respectively on potato tuber discs infected by tumerfaciens A ch 5 and A.rhizogenes ATCC15834. These tumors and roots could be grown on the phytohormone free media. PCR analysis of Rol C and Vir C gene fragments confirmed that crown gall root was prompted on the medium containing 2,4-D 2mg/l with casein hydrolysate lg/l. The survival ration of crown gall tumor callus derived from potato increased on medium containing the activated charcoal 0.5∼0.2mg/l because of the prevention, on the other hand, hairly roots were necrosis on the same medium. Callus derived from hairly root were excellently grown for a short time by suspension culture on liquid medium containing 2.4-d 2mg/L and casein hydrolysate lg/l.

        Hwang, Bo-geun. 1998. Word-order Patterns of Compounds in Beowulf. Studies in Modern Grammatical Theories, 12, 1-18. The main purpose of this paper is to analyse the compounds employed in Beowulf and to get the data concerning word-order patterns of compounds in it. The compounds are first classified into word-classes by their behaviors in the context: nouns, adjectives, and verbs. The noun compound is the largest in number, 83.2%, and the adjective and verb are 16.4% and 0.4%, respectively. In this study are excluded the verb combined with adverbs and prepositions, such as aet, be, for, in, ofer, purh, under, up, wip, etc. The lowest in frequency of the verb compound is explained by it. The adverb compounds are not found chiefly because the genitive and accusative cases of nouns are used as adverbs. Of the noun compounds the combination `Noun+Noun` is the highest in frequency; of the adjective `Noun+Adjective` is higher than `Adjective+Noun`. The analysis of the semantic structures of the noun compounds is shown in Table 2.2.1. The word-order pattern `O+V` surpasses the `V+O` pattern in number; the `Modifier+ Noun` does the `Noun+Modifier`. The `V+S` pattern is not found while the `S+V` is lower in frequency. In the adjective compounds (as shown in Table 2.2.2), the `V+S` is greater than the `S+V`; the `O+V` is greater in number than other combinations, and the `V+O` is not found. The `Adverb+Adjective` is much higher in frequency than the `Adjective+Adverb`. In the analysis of the semantic structures of the compounds in Beowulf (shown in Table 2.2.4), the highest in frequency is found in the word-onler `OV` and those consisted of elements with the `Modifier+Head` relationship. This suggests that the English in Beowulf, i.e., the English up to the 11th century had the word-order patterns of an OV language.

        Methyl methanesulfonate (MMS) was fed to Drosophila melanogaster in order to investigate its toxic capability at developmental and adult stages, and the hereditary effect of toxicity and the potency for induction of sex-linked lethal mutation during the spermatogenesis by the means of an attached-X method. In the control group, the egg to adult viability of D. melanogaster was 95.2%, while 3.5mM and 5.0mM treated groups were 90.0% and 84.1%, respectively. In the case of their progenies (F_1), the viability was 96.9% in the control group, while 3.5mM and 5.0mM treated groups were 54.5% and 1.6%, respectively. Therefore, these differences between two generations show significant physiological toxic effects in the next generation. In the parental generation, the developmental time was calculated 11.05 days in the control group, 12.43 days in 3.5%mM treated group, and 13.23 days in 5.0mM. In the case of F_1 it was estimated 10.35 days in the control group, and 11.43 days in 3.5mM treated group. Compared with the control groups in two generations, the developmental time generally delayed as the dose of MMS increased. As to the sex-ratio, there was no differences between the control and MMS treated groups. The toxic values of adult stage showed which increased the frequency of mortality with MMS concentrations. The mortality at 120hr in the control group was 1.67% and it in 0.5mM MMS treated group 3.33%. In 2.5mM MMS treated group, it was 33.3% at 72hr, and it 95% at 120hr. The increase of the morality was shown from 72hr in 4.0mM treated group which was 100% at 96hr. There was the concentration-dependent induction of sex-linked lethal mutation during the spermatogenesis by means of an attached-X method, MMS had more pronounced effect in sperm and spermaid stages in D. melanogaster.
