        The purpose of this study is to seek how to improve KSL curriculum through the analysis of SSL curriculum. This study compared SSL and KSL curriculums in terms of education system, policy, language assessment, purposes and learner groups, operation cases, and teacher education. Some of the findings are as follows: 1) Swedish curriculum system is relatively simple compared with the Korean counterpart; 2) for policy, the Swedish national test is administered every three years in elementary and secondary schools, which gives learners a motivation to learn Swedish; 3) for purposes and learner groups, SSL curriculum is focused on the functions of language learning rather than culture and social identity compared with KSL curriculum; 4) for assessment, SSL specified the contents and levels of evaluation depending on grades while KSL curriculum does not have a complete assessment. and 5) for teacher education, the two countries recognized the necessity of professionalism in teaching: Sweden started new curriculum since 2011, where 4-5 year SSL teacher programs for youths have been operated, but KSL teacher education mainly targeted programs for adults and qualified teachers.

        Paik, Kyungsook. 2016. “‘About the Author’ Texts as Promotional Genre in Korean Books”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 24(3). 191~222. This article is a genre analysis of ‘About the Author’ texts (ATAs) in Korean books. Without any previous investigation, the present study first argues that ATAs duly comprise an independent genre with a promotional communicative purpose shared by Korean discourse community. Then, to answer the question, ‘Why are the ATAs are written the way they are?’, this study identifies ‘moves’ and their ‘strategies’ as well as some stylistic features of those texts. The analysis of 158 ATAs from contemporary Korean books shows that the ATAs are composed with 4 moves; an obligatory ‘Establishing Credentials’ and 3 other optional moves, ‘Giving Personal Information’, ‘Promoting the Book’, and ‘Offering Contacts’, which are realized with different strategies respectively. It also reveals that the move structures of the texts vary but a couple of patterns explain the great majority of all the texts and that the distribution of the strategies within each move also varies across genres of the books. All these moves and strategies are found to serve the purpose of the ATAs; Establishing credentials of the author by presenting the author’s relevant selves. Finally, overall subject deletion, enumeration and frequently occurring adjective clauses were also identified as the distinctive stylistic features.

        The purpose of this study was to suggest orientations, contents and methods for teaching Korean language and culture through local culture. I took a position that using local culture in Korean language education as an L2 diversifies teaching contents and methods and fosters in- and outbound glocalization of Korean language education. First, in chapter Ⅱ, I examined concepts such as local culture, locality, and glocalization with regard to teaching Korean culture as a C2. Next, in chapter Ⅲ, I suggested orientations, contents and methods for teaching Korean language and culture through local culture. Finally, in chapter Ⅳ, I presented two examples of teaching Korean language and culture using local culture. In this paper, I introduced a new perspective on teaching Korean culture as a C2 from which we can systematize various levels of Korean culture and richen contents and methods of Korean language education for nonnative speakers. However, this paper remains as a pioneer attempt at the Korean culture education research related to local culture for the concept of local culture has a wide range for discussion.

        본고는 현대 학습자들의 수업환경과 요구를 분석한 결과를 토대로 탄뎀학습법과 플립러닝 의 장점을 응용하여 접목시킨 “플립-탄뎀 중국어-한국어 수업모형”을 제안하였다. 본 모형은 탄뎀학습법과 플립러닝의 공통적인 학습원리인 자기주도학습과 협동학습을 기본 철학으로 삼 아, 플립러닝의 선행학습방법과 탄뎀학습법의 이중언어학습법, 그리고 과제기반학습법을 유기 적으로 연계하여 설계한 온-오프라인 블렌디드 모형으로서, 각각의 교수-학습법의 장점을 살 리고 부족한 점을 보완하여 좀 더 효율적인 수업모형을 개발하고자 설계하였다. 또한 모형을 적용하여 실시한 실제 수업사례를 소개하고, 본 모형을 활용함에 있어 발생할 수 있는 한계 점에 대한 몇 가지 방안을 제시하였다.

        Qiu, Lina. 2016. “The Loanwords Usage of Chinese Students”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 24(3). 37~63. The purpose of this article is to statistically sort out the usage of Korean loanwords usage from Chinese students, and to examine the causes. Standing in the position of Chinese students, revealing their loanwords' actual applications not only can help them to recognize their mistakes in loanwords, but also can support them to correct the mistakes. From the standpoint of academic research, we should find out the reason why their frequent mistakes, which is very helpful to loanwords teaching, too. This paper focuses on the real situation, designed to pass the actual investigation to observe the use of loanwords by Chinese students. And also try to clarify the reasons for their use. To this end, this paper conducted a number of written investigations and interviews. Especially, when I try to use a variety of ways in the interviews which I will introduced in chapter 2. Survey data show that their use of loanwords are more complex than we think. However, the reasons can be traceable. In this study is to try to explore the causes just like influence of Chinese-Style English, influence from China's loanwords pronunciation, the pronunciation problems of loanwords, psychological factors.

        본 연구는 국내 대학의 중국어-한국어 탄뎀수업에서 학습자주도 평가 방법으로 동료평가 를 도입하여 이에 대한 학업성취도와 학습자의 정의적 태도에 미치는 영향을 분석하고, 동료 평가와 교사평가와의 일치도를 알아보고자 한다. 연구 대상은 부산 지역 대학의 2학년 중국 어-한국어 탄뎀수업 수강자 224명으로 학생들은 동료평가와 교사평가를 실시한 실험반과 교 사평가를 실시한 통제반으로 나누어 한 학기 동안의 탄뎀 학습과 3차례의 평가 활동을 하였 다. 그 결과 첫째, 실험반, 통제반 모두 학업성취도에서 긍정적인 효과가 보였다. 둘째, 학습 태도 변화에서는 실험반에서 유의미한 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났으며, 마지막으로 동료평가 와 교사평가 사이의 일치도는 비교적 높게 나타났다. 이는 동료평가방법이 신뢰할 수 있는 평가방법이자 탄뎀수업에서 충분히 활용가능성 있음을 보여주고 있으며, 학습 효과도 긍정적 임을 증명한다.

        한국어 접속문에서 두 절을 연결시켜 주는 중요한 요소는 연결어미이며, 연결어미를 통해서 두 절의 상 호관계가 드러난다. 반면에 중국어의 접속문은 주로 관련 사어를 이용하여 두 절을 연결한다. 중국어의 관련 사어는 연사와 관련부사의 결합형식으로 한국어의 연결어미와 같은 기능을 담당한다. 이러한 언어 적 특성의 차이로 인해 중국인 학습자가 한국어를 배울 때에 연결어미를 학습하는 것은 특히 어렵고, 많은 오류가 발생하게 된다. 양보 연결어미의 사용 빈도가 비교적 높고 각 항목은 특징에 있어 차이가 존 재한다. 그렇기 때문에 학습자들이 각 항목의 통사적 특징을 모두 파악하여 습득하는 것은 쉽지 않다. 그래서 본 논문의 목적은 중국어권 학습자 위한 한국어 양보관계 연결어미 ‘-아/어도’, ‘-더라도’, ‘-ㄹ 지라도’, ‘-ㄹ망정’, ‘-ㄹ지언정’, ‘-ㄴ들’을 중심으로 통사적 특징을 살펴본다. 본 논문의 목표는 한국어 양보관계 연결어미의 통사적 특징을 정확히 파악하게 할 수 있고, 문법 요소 사용 능력을 향상시킬 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다.

        The present study sought to examine the meanings and the discourse functions of the auxiliary particle ‘man’ in Korean texts and discourses in order to apply to Korean language education. To this end, 3,994 examples extracted from Korean written and spoken corpus were examined. The results suggest that the particle ‘man’ has three meanings: (a) limits of objects, events and situation, (b) limits of scope, and (c) emphasis of degree. The particle ‘man’ has the implication of negation of all excluding the preceded words. Furthermore, the distributions of the particle ‘man’ are changeable according to its meanings and contexts. The grammatical items related the particle ‘man’ are ‘man+un (만은), man+i (만이), man+do (만도), man+uro (만으로)’ and ‘ppun+man+anira (뿐만 아니라), N+man+V+umyun (N만 V으면)’ etc., considering the degree of fossilization and transition of their meanings. The particle ‘man’ also has many discourse functions: (a) revising a hearer’s premised expectation or general premised expectation, (b) expressing a speaker’s negative attitudes towards given events or situations, and (c) serving as a discourse strategy to express a speaker’s politeness and to reduce the burdens of a hearer.

        Настоящая работа посвящена особенностям результативных конс трукций русского и корейского языков в сравнении с английс кимязыком. Так как морфологические и синтаксические свойств а результативных конструкций отличаются друг от друга в раз личных языках, то важным для перевода данных конструкций с одного языка на другой является правильное и точное их по нимание. Так, например, в русском языке не существует так наз ываемойвторичнойпредикации, которая возможна в корейском и английском языках. Вместо этого в русском языке существуе т множество глаголов с приставками и глаголов с приставками и возвратным суффиксом(-ся), имеющих ту же самую семантиче скую структуру, что и в результативных конструкциях. Корейс кие результативные конструкции тесно связаны с морфологией, в корейском языке есть результативные морфемы ‘-게, -도록’, к оторые так же употребляются в других значениях помимо резул ьтативного. В статье подробно описываются способы перевода р езультативных конструций русского и корейского языков в соо тветствии с типами глаголов.

        Cho Yong‐joon・Ha Ji‐hee. 2016. “On the sociolinguistic variation of Korean mirative markers ‘‐kuna’, ‘‐ney’ and ‘‐ta’”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 24(1). 241~269. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the sociolingustic variation of Korean mirative markers ‐kwuna, -ney and ‐ta, through an experimental method. A 7‐point Likert scale task was adopted for this purpose. The participant’s age was the significant social factor of the observed linguistic variation, but gender does not play any significant role. Particularly, the elderly generation prefers ‐kwuna for a mirative marker, but this tendency declines for young generation. ‐ta seldom functions as a mirative marker for elderly generation, but it gets an independent status as the mirative marker for young generation. The negative semantico‐pragmatic properties of ‐kwuna affects this change.

        Ahn June-hui. 2016. “Language socialization of politeness in a Korean preschool”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 24(1). 175~211. This paper examines language socialization practices regarding politeness in a Korean preschool. In particular, it analyzes linguistic and paralinguistic features of politeness that teachers emphasize in their everyday discourses with children, and examines the ways that children reproduce or reconstruct these features and other linguistic resources in their peer talk. The analysis of teacher-children discourses shows that teachers emphasize pragmatic features of politeness such as polite forms of request, politeness routines, soft voices, high pitch, and rising intonations while not correcting inappropriate and ungrammatical uses of honorifics. Moreover, the analysis of children's peer talk demonstrates that children strategically use various linguistic and paralinguistic features of politeness to address goals of their culture-laden peer worlds such as pursuit of power and authority, alliance formation, or evasion of adult control. These findings are discussed in relations to language socialization research, studies on Korean politeness, and research on peer talk.

        Kim Eun-hye. 2016. “The new feature of prefinal ending ‘-si-’: Inanimate object honorific marker-Focusing on speech comparison of department stores and local markets-”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 24(1). 91~113. The aim of this study is to research the new function of Korean honorific prefinal ending ‘-si-’ by field survey as well as to emphasize the need to be discussed this circumstance in Korean education. The object of this study ‘-si-’ is the most representative Korean subject honorific marker. It had been only used to person, but is now also used for inanimate object. Especially, it could be found in luxury service industries such as hotel, department store, and restaurant. Therefore, this language variation can be connected with social class. In order to research the new feature of ‘-si-’, Labov(1966)’s methodology which is modified for this study was applied. Then, dialogues between employees and customers from the department store and local market were collected. In addition, this study surveyed to find out Korean native speakers’ awareness about new feature of ‘-si-’. Thus, this research has significance by finding the new features of ‘-si-’ through field surveys and questionnaires as well as making realistic mention about ‘-si-’ in Korean linguistics.

        The Korea Immigration & Integration Program (KIIP) by the Ministry of Justice offers social integration education in order to educate immigrants about Korean language and culture. This paper presents a case study on the development of Korean language textbooks for KIIP. Korean Language and Culture for Immigrants (Intermediate Levels 1 and 2) is used as a teaching material at 308 social integration education institutions. This paper introduced its development procedure and method, its development directions, the organization of its syllabus, and the content of its units. Its development process involved analyzing purposes of social integration education and of needs of incumbent teachers to develop a teaching material to meet the goals of social integration. Efforts were made to closely connect the content of Korean study to that of culture study with a focus on making culture study lead to an overall understanding of South Korean society and to serve fully as a preparation process to acquire Korean nationality. This paper will hold its value as a guideline to be consulted for the development of Korean language textbooks for immigrants and help teachers make efficient use of textbooks according to the objectives of education in a social integration program.

        Background: The assessment tool developed in other countries should be translated into Korean language using rigorous methodological approaches in order to be used in Korea. Because these procedures are insufficient for establishing the cross-cultural and linguistic equivalence, the need for statistical methods is raised. The Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale was translated into Korean and the content validity was verified through the back translation method, but the reliability and validity have not yet been proven by statistical methods. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of the Korean version of the Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale (KFAB) by statistical methods in elderly people. Methods: A total of 97 elderly adults (39 males and 58 females) participated in this study. Internal consistency of the KFAB was measured using Cronbach’s alpha and an intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) was used to assess test-retest reliability between the two measurement sessions. Concurrent validity was measured by comparing the KFAB responses with the Korean version of the Berg Balance Scale (KBBS) using the Spearman correlation coefficient. Construct validity of the KFAB was measured using the exploratory factor analysis to evaluate the unidimensionality of the questionnaire. The significance level was set at α=.05. Results: The internal consistency of the KFAB was found be adequate with Cronbach’s alpha (.96), and test-retest reliability was excellent as evidenced by the high ICC (r=.996). Concurrent validity showed high correlation between the KFAB and KBBS (r=.89, p<.001). Construct validity was evaluated using exploratory factor analysis. The result from Bartlett test of sphericity was statistically significant (p<.001), and the value of Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin measure of sampling adequacy was .93. Exploratory factor analysis revealed the existence of only one dominant factor that explained 76.43% of the variance. Conclusion: The KFAB is a reliable, valid and appropriate tool for measuring the balance functions in elderly people.

        Background: Rasch analysis estimates the probability that a respondent will endorse an item and select a particular rating for that item. It has the advantage of placing both the items and the person along a single ration scale and calibrates person ability and item difficulty onto an interval scale by logits. In addition, Rasch analysis is a useful tool for exploring the validity of questionnaires that have been developed using traditional methods. Therefore, it has been recommended as a method for developing and evaluating functional outcome measures. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate the item fit, item difficulty, and rating scale of the Korean version of the Fullerton Advanced Balance Scale (KFAB) using Rasch analysis. Methods: Total 97 subjects (39 males and 58 females) with dwelling elderly adults were participated, but 3 people were excluded for misfit persons. Rasch analysis was then done by means of the Winsteps program to determine the item fit, item difficulty, rating scale, and reliability of the KFAB. Results: In this study, the ‘standing with feet together and eyes closed’, ‘two-footed jump’, ‘walk with head turns’, and ‘stand on foam, eyes closed’ items shown misfit statistics. The most difficult item was ‘stand on one leg’, whereas the easiest item was ‘turn in full circle’. The rating scale was acceptable with all criteria. Both item and person separation indices and reliability showed acceptable values. This would indicated that each domain covers a useful range of item difficulty that is appropriate for measuring a person with a wide range of functional ability. Conclusion: The KFAB has been proven reliable, valid and an appropriate tool with which to evaluate the balance of the elderly people.

        The purpose of this study is to examine phenomena of teaching writing in Korean as a foreign or a second language, and to propose contents and methods for improving teachers’ ability of teaching writing. I presented 3 reasons that mainly cause the difficulty in teaching writing for nonnative speakers of Korean. Among the reasons, teachers’ lack of confidence and insufficiency of expertise in teaching writing is the most important one which we have to compensate in terms of improving teachers’ ability. First, in chapter Ⅱ, I analyzed the trend of teaching writing in Korean as an L2, and examined the characteristics of teacher training for teachers-to-be in Korean language education. Next, in chapter Ⅲ, I defined the concept of ‘ability of teaching writing’, and summarized the categories of the ability. Finally, in chapter Ⅳ, I suggested the contents and methods for improving teachers’ ability of teaching writing with regard to teachers’ expertise. Specially, I focused not only on the pedagogic content knowledge (PCK), but also on the content knowledge (CK). In this paper, I explored teacher education which is considered as one of the most important area for better teaching Korean as an L2. However, this paper remains only as a pioneer attempt at teacher education research for the area is not fully discussed yet.

        Kang Hyeon-seok. 2015. “Changes in the International Status of Korean and their Implications for Governmental Policies”. The Sociolinguistic Journal of Korea 23(3). 35~75. This study, first, examines the present international status/prestige of Korean on the basis of the number of speakers, the number of countries where it is spoken, the size of GDP by language, and the comprehensive evaluation considering other factors as well as the number of speakers and the economic factor. This research, next, predicts the ‘rather dismal’ future status of Korean based on the predicted statistics of Korea's future population and potential economic growth rate provided by domestic and international organizations. Finally, implications of the findings of this study are discussed and some suggestions on governmental policies, which could be of help to maintain the current international status of Korean, are given.

        The purpose of this study is to examine if Japanese and Chinese language learners of Korean, whose native language has a CV syllable structure, can apply the liaison rule when C2 of Korean the CVC syllable structure is followed by a vowel, where the application of liaison rule is necessary. For this purpose, Japanese and Chinese learners of Korean were divided into two groups by their Korean proficiency levels: beginner and advanced learners. Then the study examined if these learners can apply the Korean liaison rule in the sentence reading task. The result showed that learners in their higher proficiency level were able to apply the liaison rule better. The degree of increased application was more drastic, especially in the cases of Japanese learners. The performance varied by their native languages, it appears that Japanese learners better apply the liaison rule than Chinese learners. In addition, the result also differed by the familarity of the vocabularies used in the reading task. The liaison rule was used more accurately in more familiar vocabularies than less familiar vocabularies.

        This study examined whether learning context and language aptitude affected the use of pronunciation learning strategies and pronunciation proficiency. One hundred thirty-eight Chinese learners (88 KFL Ss & 50 KSL Ss) learners were investigated for the correlation between learning context(KSL, KFL), language aptitude (high/low), pronunciation learning strategy and pronunciation proficiency. Participants' sound discrimination ability was measured by PLAB and then they were divided into high group (upper 30%) and low group (lower 30%) by scores. SPLS and personal information survey were also conducted. The results showed that (i) a significant difference was found in pronunciation proficiency pursuant to learning context and language aptitude, (ii) use of pronunciation learning strategy differed significantly pursuant to learning context and language aptitude, and (ⅲ) use of pronunciation learning strategy could predict pronunciation proficiency. The findings suggest that effective pronunciation learning strategy should be investigated and taught in L2 Korean classroom.

        本文的目的是分析最近3年韓國5種新聞報道之基礎上,介绍韩中两国建交之后韩语里面使用的汉语借词的现状,通过将这些借词和以前的汉语借词进行比较,分析说明这些汉语借词的特征。韩中两国政府正式建立起外交关系,意味着断绝了将近一个世纪的外交关系重新开始。以韩中两国的建交为契机,两国的政治·经济·社会·文化等各领域的交流开始急速增加。随着韩中交流的扩大,大量新的汉语借词开始进入韩语当中。韩国和中国维持了超过两千年的长期的语言接触。属于不同语系的两种语言在如此长的时间内互相影响,这是在世界语言史上都很少见的独特现象。近代以前对于韩语产生影响的汉语借词大部分是通过文献,特别是以四书五经为代表的儒家经典进入韩语当中,但是韩中建交以后进入韩语里的汉语借词则在很多方面上呈现出和以前的借词不同的特征。韩国和中国虽然自古以来一直交流不断,但是像最近一样的大规模的直接交流还是前所未有的。
