Recently, as ESG management has become an important issue, major companies in the automotive parts manufacturing industry are conducting ESG evaluations of their suppliers for the purpose of supply chain management. The results of these evaluations are being incorporated into contractual agreements. However, many small and medium-sized enterprises(SMEs) are lacking in their capacity and resources to effectively respond to ESG evaluations. Furthermore, existing ESG management guidelines do not provide an industry-specific guidance, making it necessary to establish industry-specific guidelines that SMEs can refer to. Therefore, in this study, the evaluation Indicators of ESG supply chain assessments are surveyed, which is conducted by domestic major automotive parts companies and global automobile manufacturers. Then 56 supply chain ESG evaluation Indicators are derived. Also, ESG management indicators for SMEs is analyzed through the Importance-Performance Analysis(IPA), based on an interview of expert groups. Therefore, this study could propose industry-specific ESG guidelines, based on the results of the derived indicators, which reflects the need for SMEs to practice ESG management within certain boundaries.
In this study, stiffness evaluation was conducted on the main member, front cross member, and rear cross member, which are three components of sub-frame for SUVs (sports utility vehicles), through mode analysis. As for the design variables used in the analysis, the maximum frequency was examined by varying the width and height of each of the three parts into four types. Of course, the weight at this time is minimized, and the mode is set as a constraint that only bending occurs and no distortion occurs. As a result of the analysis, the member affecting the 1st mode was the rear cross member, and the member having the greatest influence on the 2nd mode was the front cross member. In addition, the member with the greatest influence on the 3rd mode appeared as the rear cross member, indicating that this part had the greatest effect on the bending stiffness.
In this study, clinching characteristics of aluminum and galvanized steels were investigated for the application of clinching as a joining technique to aluminum wheelhouse assembly. A6451 aluminium alloy and galvanized steel sheets were joined by hybrid joining(clinching + adhesive bonding). Tensile-shear load and fracture mode of hybrid joints were investigated. Maximum tensile-shear load of hybrid joints was about six times higher than that of clinched joints without adhesive. Energy absorption values of hybrid joints were higher than those of clinched joints without adhesive as well as resistance spot welded steel joints. Developed aluminum wheelhouse assembly showed higher static stiffness than the existing steel parts. Aluminum wheelhouse inner panel unit was 44% lighter than the steel unit, and the final assembled aluminum wheelhouse was 14.6% lighter than the existing steel parts.
The proportion of software in the automotive industry is steadily increasing due to the rapid technological development of automobile E/E parts. Because the automotive E/E technology is now on the basis of intelligent automobile and advanced safety automobile technology. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of organizational capability (organizational resource capability and management capability), process capability (process capability, customer Requirement management capability), performance dimension (motivation, participation level). In this study, we conducted questionnaires and statistical analysis on engineers (members of the Korea Advanced Automotive Technology Association) who perform research and development activities in the R&D organization of the automotive E/E part in South Korea. ANOVA is applied for the verification of the difference in performance measured by organizational capability, process maturity, and motivation participation level according to company characteristics (level of processing : supply chain configuration, annual sales, total SW development ratio). According to the results of this study, in order to improve the performance of ASPICE or ISO 26262-related consulting project, a different consulting approach strategy considering the characteristics of organization and personnel is needed. In summary, the analysis results for the three main treatment levels are as follows. The difference in organizational capacity, process capability and performance was found to be statistically significant according to supply chain configuration and annual sales, but it was found that the difference of response according to the proportion of total SW was not significant.
Recently, the use of tubes in the manufacturing of the automobile parts has increased and therefore many automotive manufactures have tried to use hydro-forming technology. The hydro-forming technology may cause many advantages to automotive applications in terms of better structural integrity of the parts, lower cost from fewer part count, material saving, weight reduction, lower spring-back, improved strength and durability and design flexibility. In this study, the whole process of sub-frame parts development by tube hydro-forming using steel material is presented. At the part design stage, it requires feasibility study and process design aided by CAE (computer aided design) to confirm hydro-formability in details. Overall possibility of hydro-formable sub-frame parts could be examined by cross sectional analyses. All the components of prototyping tools are designed and interference with press is examined from the point of geometry and thinning.

Price quotations for SOR / RFQ from OEM clients is a very important process in the automotive parts industry. However, OEM clients are demanding a price quote on short duration but it takes long delivery time due to sales, research and development, purchasing, production and cost management departments role and jobs focused on detail and responsibility. And to provide a reasonable alternative with eliminating the waste of non-value processes is to achieve OEM clients satisfaction through standardized and parallel processing, IT system based on the systems and processes of global benchmark companies.
Spare part management is very important to products that have large number of parts and long lifecycle such as automobile and aircraft. Supply chain must support immediate procurement for repair. However, it is not easy to handle spare parts efficiently due to huge stock keeping units. Qualified forecasting is the basis for the supply chain to achieve the goal. In this paper, we propose an agent based modeling approach that can deal with various factors simultaneously without mathematical modeling. Simulation results show that the proposed method is reasonable to describe demand generation process, and consequently, to forecast demand of spare parts in long-term perspective.
Magnetostrictive thin films can be applied in transmission system for the enhancement of energy efficiency. In this study, four kinds of substrates (Si, glass, Fe, polyimide) with the magnetostrictive thin film layers are prepared and investigated to characterize the magnetic and mechanical behaviors due to the substrates effects. The fabricated substrates have thicknesses of 50, 150 and 500um with cantilever shape. TbDyFe films are deposited by DC magnetron sputtering with 1~10m thick. The deposited film thicknesses are verified using X-ray diffraction. The magnetization of each sample is examined using VSM(Vibrating Sample Magnetometer) and magnetostriction is also measured using capacitance method to characterize magneto-mechanical behaviors. The magnetostriction results as deflections are compared and the results are discussed for micro actuator applications.
Silicon based magnetostrictive structures were fabricated for micro-wireless actuators, and finite element models were developed to predict mechanical characteristics of the actuated structures. These structures can be used to design wireless automotive parts and multi-function packaged micro automotive devices. In the fabrication process, amorphous magnetostrictive films of the optimized binary compound Tb0.4Fe0.6 and Sm0.47Fe0.53 were deposited with various thicknesses on the silicon membrane by DC magnetron sputtering using cast composite targets. Magnetic fields lower than 2KOe (0.2T) were applied for micro-system applications. These films have been tested in a simple cantilever arrangement and the predicted magnetostrictions of the actuated membranes through the developed FE models have been calculated.
The supplier selection problem is perhaps the most important component of the purchasing function. Some of the common and influential criteria in the selection of a supplier include quality, price, delivery, and service. These evaluation criteria often co
The objective of this research is to examine the factors affecting the decision-making of International Commercial Terms (Incoterms) of automotive parts manufacturers in Thailand. This mixed method study applied qualitative and quantitative research methods and utilized the analytical hierarchy process (AHP) to prioritize the significance of the factors. By an in-depth literature review and expert interview, four main criteria were identified. These criteria include Operating costs, Cooperation and bargaining power, Knowledge and understanding and Operation duration then main criteria divided into fifteen sub-criteria. The common Incoterms, Ex Works (EXW), Free On Board (FOB), Free Carrier (FCA), and Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF), were determined as alternatives to the incoterms through a preliminary survey. The results revealed that the operating costs were the most important factor for the company. Moreover, it was discovered that this was consistent with the priority of the secondary factors, which included the annual budget for the transportation expenses and product value at one time. The respondents’ perspective suggested that FCA was the most appropriate Incoterms for international trade for a company. The findings of this research suggest a hierarchy model for organizations to prioritize the significant factors in order to make a decision on the most appropriate Incoterms.
The aim of this research is to contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of automotive parts suppliers while departing from the dependent relationship structure, by developing and interpreting factors that affect sale, which are financial achievements, in a practical way. The research data covered 200 companies from 2013-2017. The study hypothesis was verified by dividing the hypothesis into Model1 with control variables only and Model2 with control variables in independent variables. As a result of hypothesis testing, regarding sales, only capital size showed to have an effect in Model1, while in Model2, asset size, number of employees and joint ventures with foreign companies did but the other remaining factors did not. In particular, the results showed that an increase in financial performance required ‘Economies of scale’, and that companies that concentrated on a small number of items, diversified products into four or more items, or owned two to four suppliers, reaped positive results in financial performance. Therefore, in addition to the selection and concentration of corporate management for production items and account management, applying strategies, like the inter-company M&A, consortiums and co-branded strategies to achieve ‘Economy of scale’, would highly enhance the financial performance of automotive parts suppliers.
