최근 창의성을 동력으로 하여 지역의 정체성을 강화하고 지속 가능한 발전을 추구하는 문화적 도시재생 사례가 확산하고 있다. 본 연구는 르 페브르(Henri Lefebvre)의 ‘공간의 사회적 생산’ 이론을 바탕으로, 이탈 리아 파바라(Favara)에 조성된 팜컬추럴파크(Farm Cultural Park) 사 례를 분석하고, 이를 통해 쇠퇴한 도시 공간이 사회적 필요에 의해 재탄 생하는 과정을 탐색하였다. 연구방법으로는 문헌 연구 및 현장 관찰, 그 리고 설립자와 주민, 예술가 등 다양한 관계자를 대상으로 한 심층 인터 뷰를 병행하였다. 연구 결과, 공동체 회복이라는 ‘관념적 공간’은 초기 주민들의 저항에 부딪혔으나, 설립자의 지역 밀착형 소통 전략과 지역성 이 반영된 문화 프로그램의 적극적 도입을 통해 극복되었다. 이러한 실 천은 외면받던 역사 중심지를 방문과 체류의 장소로 바꾸며 새로운 ‘지 각적 공간’을 창출하는 기반으로 작용했다. 나아가 이 과정에서 축적된 경험은 주민들의 패배감을 문화적 자부심으로 전환함으로써 ‘생동적 공 간’을 탄생시키는 계기가 되었다. 본 연구는 하나의 문화적 도시재생이 계획(관념), 실천(지각), 의미(생동)의 역동적 상호작용을 통해 어떻게 쇠 퇴한 공간을 사회적으로 생산하고 나아가 차이공간(Differential Space) 으로 재탄생시키는지를 규명했다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

Drawing on Pierre Bourdieu's field theory, this study investigates the Qingguo Lane historical and cultural district in Changzhou City, analyzing the evolutionary mechanisms of cultural capital reproduction and social space reconstruction. The research finds that the local government, leveraging institutional cultural capital and symbolic power, selectively codifies historical narratives—such as the official discourse of “the first lane of Jiangnan celebrities”—to dominate the construction of a new cultural field. Developers, in turn, capitalize on economic resources to drive spatial reproduction, converting cultural capital into economic capital and shaping a consumer-oriented field characterized by an “elegant gathering and slow-living” lifestyle. Meanwhile, indigenous residents face displacement, loss of social capital, and deprivation of cultural interpretive rights amid the dynamics of capital. The renewal process not only transforms the material space but also reconstructs social relations through a closed-loop conversion between cultural and economic capital, presenting a dynamic logic of “institutional cultural capital dominance—economic capital proliferation—social capital dissolution.” The study underscores the need for future culture-oriented urban renewal to prioritize the sustainable reproduction of cultural capital and the inclusive development of social space, in order to balance heritage conservation with community rights.

본 연구는 의정부 문화도시의 문화공유공간 프로그램인 ‘사이공간’을 레이 올든버그의 ‘제3의 공간’ 이론을 적용하여 분석함으로써 향후 유사 한 문화도시 공간 사업에 필요한 정책적 시사점을 제안하고자 하였다. 연구 방법으로는 각종 문헌 및 온라인 자료 분석과 심층인터뷰를 채택하 였다. 연구 결과, ‘사이공간’은 ‘접근성’과 ‘편의성’ 측면에서 도심과 생활 권을 아우르는 분산 배치와 심리적 개방감을 조성하는 공간 설계를 통해 물리적, 심리적 장벽을 낮추었다. ‘평등성’과 ‘상호작용성’ 측면에서 모두 가 참여할 수 있는 프로그램과 커뮤니티를 통해 이용자들 간의 자연스러 운 소통과 교류를 유도하며, 지역 내 소외 계층을 포용하는 환경을 조성 하였다. ‘유희성’과 ‘다양성’은 놀이와 창의적 활동을 결합한 맞춤형 프로 그램과 다목적 공간 활용, 예술 창작 및 공동체 활동을 병행하여 시민들 에게 색다른 경험과 참여의 기회를 제공하는 방식으로 구현되었다. 하지 만 특정 연령층에 한정된 참여를 비롯해 지속 가능성에서 개선의 필요성 이 확인되었다. 이와 같은 연구 결과를 바탕으로 문화도시 사업의 공간 이 ‘제3의 공간’이 되기 위해서는 장애인과 노약자의 접근성을 강화해야 하며, 주민들이 자발적으로 기획· 참여할 수 있는 커뮤니티 프로그램이 필요하고, 다양한 연령층과 배경을 포괄하는 맞춤형 프로그램을 통해 공 간 활용도를 높여야 한다.

Focusing on Hwaseokjeong in Paju, the work seeks to clarify the social production of Nujeong (樓亭: Korean traditional pavilions) space, which took place over the 1960s and 70s, and its cultural-political implications. To make the effort as such meaningful, a theoretical framework based not merely on the thesis of ‘social production of space’ advocated by Henri Lefebvre but especially on some discussions related to ‘state production of space’ is prepared, according to which Hwaseokjeong is analyzed and explained. As a consequence, two principal arguments are put forward: one is that Hwaseokjeong was a social space which had been built and constructed in accordance with the unique mode of production dominating Korean society at that time called ‘the state mode of production (le mode de production étatique )’; the other is that what lies beneath the denotation of a ‘social space of tradition restoration’ that Hwaseokjeong appears to carry is in fact the connotation of ‘infiltration of anti-communist ideology’. All of these claims are once again supported both by examining Roland Barthes's semiology and mythologies and by considering Hwaseokjeong's Pyeonaek (扁額: a plaque or framed text) as ‘the practice of naming power through J esa (題詞: inscribing dedications)’. While providing a succinct summary, the paper finally evaluates what ‘social production of space’ implies to social practices of architecture and related criticisms by taking into account the relationship between visibility and readability of space including buildings.
